How do I tell from flash at the last frame on intro...jump to next frame in director timeline?

Director Question : Flash´ KeyDown In Director
Hi
I've been working on a project in flash where I have used keyDown commands. It works fine in actionscript. The problem is that I would like to import it into director. But my keyDowns doesn´t work in director. If I made buttons in flash it works in director. But keyDown doesn´t work. Do anyone know why it doesn´t work? I hope someone can help me.

Flash Button Within Director Movie To Go To Other Director Movie
I have made a menu in flash with various buttons on it, and imported it into a director movie. I was wondering if I could 'within flash' tell each button to open up a different director movie using the actions panel, ie 'open movie - whatever.dir'. is this possible.

I am working for the past few weeks on a CD-Rom about a company's presentation. I have designed it in flash, and now I have imported it in Director 8.5
My problem is that my client wants in a section to show some thumbnails of pictures and to provide the chance to the viewer to download the hi-resolution picture to his/her PC (or Macintosh).
How can I do it? How can I make a script that when I click on the picture (in Director 8.5) a browzer window will appear that will give me the chance to choose where I want the picture to be saved in my computer?

I have created the swf and now need it to go on a CD rom for a presentation.
I need it as a standalone application without any browser frames.

does anybody know if flash onclick actions can be used in director, for example i have created roll down menus in flash and put them in director but the only way i can get a click on a menu option go to a director frame is by putting a transparent box created in director over a menu option from the roll down and place an onclick goto frame behaviour on te box

Flash Vs. Director For Cd-rom?
Hello, I've been working on a cd-rom which plays videos that sync with text bullets. I've been working in Macromedia Director, but now that I have Flash MX it seems I should start over and design it in Flash.This is due to the new imbed video feature which I believe should sync the video with the text with too little problem. My question is whether or not any of you can tell me if there are any other considerations that I may be overlooking. I'm about 65% done on Director but it seems I could create this in Flash quickly and the end product may have better useability, ie. also be web ready.Should I supply the Flash 6 plugin or can I have just a projector?
Any suggestions or advice?

Flash Within Director Nav
i have a director movie with a flash toolbar within. i want the flash button to tell director to go to a frame with the dir. file.
im using
on (release) {
getURL ("lingo: go to frame 15");
}
but my flash button is a level down in flash and i cant get the button to register in the dir. file. all the buttons on the top flash layer navigate fine.
any suggestions?

But other action that will trigger random number...and control other scripts it does not seem to work.

I'm very experienced with Flash but totally new to Director. I'm trying to get better at Director because I make tons of cd roms with video and bitmaps for work.
Anyway, I'd like to incorporate some of my flash movies in my director files, and use the flash to occassionally control the director timeline.
That can be done right? If so, what would a basic button script that controls the director timeline look like?

I planning to create a multimedia cd-rom
for one client. Now i'm a bit confused with software i should use. One idea is to make all the contents in a Flash MX and then put it to Director and create a projector file. Or another idea is to make all contents in Director MX and only add some flash animations.
The content will include a few 3-minute videos.
I became confused, cause Flash MX supports videos now quite well.
So what do u think, which way is better ?
Any advices ?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with using FlashMX in DirectorMX? Is it really buggy?
The people at http://www.3dna.net have a very cool 3d desktop project. They are looking for suggestion on how flash can be used within a director 3d environment. I thought of adding flash games.
But of course if flash is really buggy in director then I guess there is no point.
Does anyone have any info on this or know of any tutorials?

Director Into Flash
for my current project at college we are making our portfolio in flash
and i've come to put my director work into it so how do i do it?
i know i can publish it as a html but the only way i have found to view this in flash is to use the load url but this opens up a new window which i dont want, i want it to load into a specified target on the main page.

OK...I've created a large interactive presentation for a client in flash, complete with audio files and photos to be published for a CD. Too many and too large, but the client is not budging, so that is what I have to work with. So now I'm having all sorts of problems, and after reading some of the posts here, Director might be a better tool to handle this large of a project. Problem is, I've never used it, and the first of 8 CDs is almost finished. How hard would it be to import my work into Director? I REALLY don't want to start completely over!!!

I depend on books and the kindness of others to learn flash and director...I know web flash but this is different. i have a combined question. I have 2 flash files (swf's), one is an intro the other is the content. I would like to use director to bring them together in one projector, or one project window (stage). The intro is linked via "get url" on an animated button to the content (is this right?) so how do i arrange them in a single projector or two projectors to insure this link happens, and the user doesnt have to watch another browser window open....seemless baby!!! Please help, any ideas...i have a book, but it kind of sucks...."visual quickstart guide"

Flash Or Director For CD-ROM
The question is whether to do the following project in Flash or Director.
I'm taking over a CD-ROM project that has previously been done in Director, but since I don't know Director and I have some familiarity with Flash, I am trying to determine whether I can produce new editions of the CD-ROM in Flash.
The CD has a self running .exe that is essentially a slide show of bitmap images. About 20 seconds of audio accompanies each slide. Forward and backward buttons allow the user to navigate from slide to slide. There are two pages of thumbnail images which go to larger versions of the images when the user clicks on them. And finally there is one slide with color chips that the user can click and drag around the screen.
The average size of past versions of the CD-ROM done in Director is 550MB.
Any advice would be very welcome

Hello,
I need little help from someone who is generally familiar with both Macromedia Flash and Director.
I will have to make several multimedia CDs in near future and I need to decide which one of these tools will be best to use.
Could someone point out very brieflly what are benefits or drawbacks of using one or other when talking about multimedia CDs? I would not dare to ask for any deeper analysis, all I need is just a few points from where I can begin RTFM :-) (once I will know what to look for, it gets far more easy).

Flash MX Vs. Director MX
OK. I am starting to get more and more into longer, more robust and processor intensive projects for CDs, Kiosks, etc. I have always used Flash and the Flash Projector. It appears I am going to have to migrate and at least add Director to my skill portfolio.
My questions:
1. When should I use Director instead of Flash?
2. Can you export SWFs out of Director if you want to make a 'web-version'?
3. What is the learning curve like for Director? Is it at least somewhat similar to Flash?

Im trying to load a few .jpg in my flash movie, i´m using this code in flash: loadmovie ("a.jpg", "holder");
Well, if I run my swf file it works great, i can see the external jpg files, BUT when i import this swf in Director dont work, i mean every thing it ok but the flash file dont load the jpg files.......
why ???

Many games on the internet are shockwave games (made by director/lingo). Can somebody tell me what the advantages are of director (espacially for building games)? Now with the more powerfull flash-actionscript, is it still worth learning Lingo (script language of director)? Because in my opinion shockwave-games allways look the best.

Flash is for web based applications
Director is for Cd based applications
But booth programs can do either no?
I used Director for a couple of cd applications a couple of years ago. Didn't really like using Director so leaned more towards flash, never looked back.

Director Exe Is Different To Flash Exe
hello, here is my question:
i tried to imported a flash movies to director and use director to create a project .exe file.
comparing with the original .swf file , the .exe one cannot show the text which is loaded in swf by the method of loadVariable() externally.
Is flash movie in director cannot be linked with .txt file by using LoadVariables?
#my flash and director version is MXs
#i know i can use flash to output exe. file, but i choose director becaure i will add some director's scripts on it.

Hope someone will be able to explain; I have an assignment to complete in director mx, and i've imported some flash .swf files, but they all play real slow, in director that is. If they are played with the flash player, they play fine... why is this so? Anyway of over-comming the problem?

if you create a character in Lightwave or any other 3d app and you want to have him look 3d and create a game (for web or cd) where you control your character and he can also turn around in 3d, would that be done easier/better in director ? you can't really rotate a 3d character in flash unless maybe you use swift3d but then you have to create all the separate frames for the movement/turning around etc correct ? any feedback would be appreciated.

I have been stuck on this and I hope that you guys can help me out. Here is the situation:
I am creating an interface for a family video DVD in Flash 8 (I just bought the upgrade). I made a few cool animations and play button with some rollover animations. I upgraded to Director MX 2004 about a year or so ago for it's DVD capabilities, but i can't seem to find any info on Director actually Authoring a DVD that can be played on a TV. All the references I have found are intended for use on a computer.
My question:
How can get my flash interface to launch and play the video on my grandparent's DVD player hooked up to their TV? I really want the flash interface and It can't just be a quicktime movie, I need the button to play the dvd when it is selected.

Hi guys,
I'm totally new to multimedia authoring environments. As part of my university studies, I am to undertake a project to produce a training multimedia for someone working towards a sports coaching certificate. So far I have come up with the following ideas:
1) Have animations of drills that the user can learn and teach their students
2) Have videos of these drills being undertaken so user can use these instead of animations if they wish
3) Create a dynamic 'drill-creator' where the user can create animations of their own made-up drills and teach these to students
4) For the theory side, a quiz which will test the coach's knowledge on certain theoretical aspects e.g. tactical awareness. I would like this to be interactive somehow so that the user can download questions from myself so that the questions will never be the same in the quiz
5) Finally, I would like this to be output on a stand-alone CD-ROM or preferablly DVD so people can watch it and go through it on their TV.
Now, I am not sure which software to use; Flash or Director. Can someone please explain to me which one I should be using for this and briefly why? Aslo, as I've never used these before, how possible do you think it will be to create this whole project by next March, when I have to hand it in for assessment?

Hi guys, I apologise in advance if this seems like a long one!
I've got a university project to do in which I need to provide training for a certification for something that involves practical & theoretical knowledge. I have chosen to do soccer training as this way, for the training drills (practical elements) I can have animations and/or videos to show to the user and for the theory side I can have topics of theory and short quizes to test the users knowledge.
HOWEVER, the problem now is that I am not sure which one of the two packages mentioned above, to use. For some reason, I want to create a stand-alone application, as opposed to website etc. I know that Director was good for this, but there hasn't been a Director release for 3 years and I take it Flash is overtaking it. And in Flash, I know that Flash-Lite has come into existence which means I could extend my project and create a mini version for cell phones. So basically, I'll list my requirements below and I was wondering if you can tell me which will be my best option cuz I keep reading web pages/books etc.. and still cant find out which one is best!
1) Need to be able to create a set ofanimations and provide video footage (which I know both do)
2) Need to provide a short-test quiz format (again, I know this can be done in Flash)
3) Want to publish to a DVD-ROM to create an Interactive DVD that the user can access and use through their regualr DVD player/TV
