Is there a really good flash 5 book out there for intermediate users? I looked on amazon.com and most of the books have conflicting reviews. If anyone knows of a really good book, please tell me.

hey all, I've been working as a straight designer for a little while, mostly graphics actually just starting to really get into flash...anyhow, I was wondering what the best book to learn actionscripting would be...I know some basics and I've got a pretty good understanding of C++ and some int. lvl java...so what would I want to look into to learn the real power of flash? I've seen the 5 books, but with the changes in MX I'd rather start there.

Hey everybody. I'm new here, and I was just wdondering whether you knew of any good flash books?
I know how to do like motion stuff by like using the frame so im not very basic. I want to learn how to do really cool interfaces, games, intros... not using the create motrion tween...
Do you have recommedations for me? And i want to learn how to do the stuff step by step... not with luike examples?

I am still pretty much a beginner at Flash and I need a good book to help me along. Any recommendations? I would like something that is very detailed but not too advanced. ive been using flash for about a year now, and i havent really ventured into the advanced features, like exploring actionscript or creating '2 advanced' style websites (i know they're over mocked but id still love to make one).
I would love to hear some recommendations on intermediate/advanced flash books, as well as a good recommendation on a book in actionscript (for beginners, if thats possible).
I'm aware im probably being very ironic posting this on a site forum which has over 'who knows' how many tutorials on the app'.

I'm looking for a good book on flash/actionscript (MX) for web design. I'm interested in learning more about dynamically creating everything in a site--buttons and content, etc., making everything easily update-able and I'm interested in organizing and optimizing my content for fast execution over the web. I've had problems, for example, with having animated transitions between sections be very slow and laggy because I'm not sure how to code it effectively. I'm also interested in learning about arrays and some practical applications and basically an overall expansion of my actionscripting knowledge. I'm a very impatient reader but I love it at the same time--I like tutorials and things like that. So if anyone can recommend a good book for any/all of this I would really appreciate it, thanks!

I am way in over my head. I can customize flash like a newborn baby can eat a steak dinner.
I just received a new project from a company that has HEAVY flash templates they bought and want edited.
I have one of two options.
A - Purchase a book on flash that describes EVERY tool the program uses and how I can use this book to do this project myself. Can anyone tell me the BEST book on flash?
B - I can contract someone to help me for cheap.
I really would like to do this myself to teach myself for next time but at the same time I wish I had someone who could guide me through and I could give them some $$ out of my contract with this company.

I'm looking for a Flash book that can walk me through easy to understand (if that exists) intermediate Flash work.
I would like to advance into a little more complex scripting such as loading external movies, text from a database and Picts from a database.

Somthing a little more advanced than that - up 2 a good level, to learn at.

Flash Books - Which Is Best?
Ok I understand the basics of actionscript such as variable names, instance names, if/else etc. And maybe some limited experience with attachMovie. But I certainly know nothing of the physics stuff for AS.
What I really need is a book that will give me a comprehensive run through that actually teaches you AS and doesn't only throw a whole bunch of scripts at you. With all books I have previously read this has been the case unfortunately and I am never able to really learn the material.
What do you guys think is the best book for someone like myself?

Not sure where to post this question, but since I'm writing in AS2, I guess I'll post this here:
Just wondering, I'm trying to find some decent books or tutorials on advanced xml and Flash.
I'm cool with parsing xml and creating small xml driven applicaitons, like xml driven mp3 players and menus, but I'm seeing some advanced guys writing xml to structure their sites, I guess like xslt, not certain... Just wondering if anyone has resources from which they've learned to which they can point me.

Hey guys, I have many flash books but unfortunately i didnt have time to read them as they are e-books saved on the pc. Therefore I'm interested in buying one. Which one do you think is the best? i.e. has everything from A to Z; from beginner to advanced obviously actionscript 3 not 2. The book should be focused on actionscript from beginning to advanced. I'm ready to spend so don't worry about the budget but dont tell me 2...would like to know which one you think is the BEST, i know its hard but i'm sure some experts out there can help

I am looking for a comprehensive actionscript book, prefferably with diagrams, that covers both the basics of actionscript and takes the reader through to much more advanced script.
Colin Moock's book "a definitive guide" is good, but does not have diagrams (which i find very helpful in the leraning process).
Any ideas out there?

Hello Flash Kit community. I have taken two different Flash classes, that didn't really teach me anything "advanced" (i.e, ActionScript.) Does any one out there know of any instructor type, hands on training in ActionScript? If not can you point me in the direction of some worth while books; I'm finishing up "Flash 5: Training From The Source" and Sams ActionScripting in Flash now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Flash Certification Books?
I have been using Flash for awhile and recently noticed that they are offering a certification exam. So far, I have not delved to deeply into actionscript and was wondering if someone knew of a good book(s) that would help me prepare for the exam. Even if I do not go for the certification, at least I would learn more about the actionscript.

This is my first time here.
I just have some questions to start with, I want to buy a Foundation Flash Book by FriendsofEd. What can you say about this books? People are telling me to buy this book coz I'm a newbie and this is a good "Foundation" Book.
My software is Flash MX but the only available book here in my country is Foundation Flash 5. Is there a big difference between Flash MX and Flash 5? Do I need to wait for the Foundation Flash MX book or just buy the Foundation Flash 5 book?

Help ME Choose Books I Am New To Flash...
Hi, I am very new to flash... in fact I have zero expierence with flash. But I would really like to learn... So I wanna get some books on it, but am having a hard time choosing. I know for sure that I am going to get the swift 3d foundation book... but thats not for flash... I am considering getting the flash mx bible and the flash mx actionscript bible... as well as the ADGS2. Are these good choices? The only books I have on web design are "Learning Web Design" And "Web Design in a nut shell" both very good books... I also have fireworks mx visual quickstart guide... but I don't like it... And I'm pretty good with fireworks anyways... So anyways, will those flash books be good choices? Or do you people have better recommendations? Thanks A lot
Best Books On Professional Use Of Flash?
Already know basics of Flash and actionscript, but I'm looking for books on how to take what I know to the next level. I can find plenty of books on basic Flash, but are having trouble finding books that illustrate the creation of things such as drop-down menus and advanced navigation systems. I would also like to learn about the use of bitmaps in Flash to create advanced sites.
What I keep finding is books that illustrate little pieces of basic stuff, but do not show in any way how to put those pieces together into a professional site or Flash app.
I want to learn how to do drop-down menus like www.lookandfeel.com and the sliding ones on www.ultrashock.com that incorporate features such as inertia, friction, and bounce, but can't find a book that really even tells about how to get started in that end of Flash work.
Any recommendations?

Hello, I want to learn to make games in Flash. I made some simple games, but they are far from what I wanted. So, can you give me some advice which books are good and not too expensive? I don't need tutorials about drawing, vectors, layers and other paint stuff. Just actionscripting.
Or, is there any links for good online books, not tutorials how to make some elements like cursor angle detection, hitTest?
