Flicker Refresh In Flash
Do you know of any way to reduce the flicker when moving (scrolling) large images at semi-fast speeds across the stage???

right now using onEnterFrame at 60fps on a PC. Fast computer. Flash has always suffered from flicker...but is there a way to reduce it, any tricks? Right now I've only got a single bitmap on the screen and am scrolling it back and forth to test.

Flash Movie Making Cursor In Non Flash Form Flicker
Hi all,

Whenever I insert the flash movie into the page, it causes the cursor in the input field of a form to flicker sporadically. It does it in IE 5, 5.5, 6, 7, and in Firefox. Opera is not affected at all. Anyone ever run across this? I remember this happening to me before I just can not recall what the cause was.

Flash Menu Buttons Flicker When Pressed
I created a menu from an image that I sliced up in Photoshop CS2 then took those images into flash 8 and created a rollover effect then took those buttons and put them into a webpage to create a menu.
The problem is that when I run the webpage and press on the any of the menu flash buttons all the buttons disapear and all you see are black boxes where the buttons were and then the buttons re-apear. It looks terrible. Is there anyway to smooth out the process?

A White Flicker In The Browser Before Flash Starts?

I get a white flicker - quick, but still noticeable when my flash is played in IE. Went to Macromedia forums and they said it was unfixable. Any ideas or different workarounds you guys got? The animation is not especially large, so it could'nt be a size or loading problem - yet...

Flicker When Dynamically Loading Chart Component In Flash MX
Hi

I am using a database to load values into the charting components in Flash MX. The code loads the variables from an asp file and modifies an existing instance of a chart. This is working fine. But the chart instance appears briefly with no values loaded, disappears and appears again with the values loaded. It looks like a flicker and it's a bit distracting.

I've tried to set the _visible property of the instance to false and then make it reappear after the values are loaded. I've also tried to change the _x value of the instance so the chart doesn't appear until after it's loaded. Neither of these things work.

I thought I might be able to create the component in actionscript but have had no luck. I read somewhere that they can be created something like:
ThisBarChart = new BarChart();
but I can't get that to work either.

If anyone can suggest anything to fix this problem, I'd be very grateful.

Safari Menu Flicker Problem With Flash Embed
Hi folks, it's been a few years since I've been here. My use of Flash has
slipped quite a bit since most of my clients only desire a little bit here
and there.

Recently though I've run into a problem that seems to have resulted with
the Adobe Scripts update last year. Now, even Adobe's home page shows a
flash flicker in Safari... I was using a show/hide function to hide my flash
item and replace it with a jpg when a user scrolled over a menu. That seemed
to be he only way to prevent the z-index error I'm now seeing with the
submenus appearing beneath the Flash on the page in Safari ONLY, it appears:

For some reason the show hide function is broken, probably by the Adobe
Scripts update.

How To Deal With A Flicker Of Unstyled Content On Heavily-styled Flash Components?
Hello everyone.

I wonder if anyone else has come across the issue in question here. I have a main Flash movie serving as a container into which other movies are loaded when the appropriate buttons are pressed. The loaded movies themselves contain Flash components such as combobox, list and textarea with a good deal of styling applied to all of them.

When I test them separately all is well. However, when they are loaded into the main movie, there occurs a momentary flicker of unstyled content (comparable to raw content showing briefly while importing CSS into a html page instead of linking it), after which the components show as intended.

I have tried applying mx transitions, various alpha settings and masking in order to provide a second or two to the components to become settled, but none seemed to be a satisfactory solution.

Could anyone please help me with this unsightly nuisance? I should be much obliged.

Flash "flicker" Issue
I have a web page that is set up almost exactly like the www.adobe.com home page. They each have a top navigation bar with drop down menus and directly underneath the navigation there is a SWF animation. On my web page the SWF file interupts the drop down menu but only when the SWF is animating. I noticed that the adobe site's nav and SWF work fine. Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this like Adobe did?

How To Do A 'Flicker' Effect?
I have a photo mc than I want to 'flicker'
from alpha: 0% to 100%.
i.e The photo starts at 0% then goes to 20%,
then back to 0% then to 40%, and so on untill
it stops at 100%.

At the moment I'm using the following code,
but it runs very slow;

first frame = setProperty ("foto", _alpha, "0");

second frame = setProperty ("foto", _alpha, "20");

third frame = setProperty ("foto", _alpha, "0");

fourth frame = setProperty ("foto", _alpha, "40");

etc.

Any ideas on how to make this run faster?

LoadMovie Flicker
I have a document with 2 movie clips one on top of the other. I am dynamically loading JPGs in to the movieclips and fading between them. The code is working however every time the image moves from the foreground to the background movie clip the screen flickers.

Bitmap Flicker
i've imported a png image into flash and put it on the bottom layer of a movie. there's some animation in the layers above. whenever the animation encroaches on the image, it breaks up slightly, causing a distracting flicker. i've noticed this before, but it's never been important enought to do anything about!

two obvious questions, then:

1. why does it happen?
2. how can i stop it?

Flicker Effect
im trying to make a movie clip flicker really fast. At first i had two keyframes. the first one set the movie clips visibility to true and the secong to false. Its just not quite as fast as i wanted and i dont want to change the fps. does anyone know how to do this with actionscript. Im sure its pretty easy.

Flicker When Scrolling On MAC Not On PC
Hello all,

I'm putting together a web page using GoLive. On this page I've got a "floating box" which contains a .swf animation.
When a PC user scrolls the floating box the animation scrolls nicely while continuing the animation. MAC users however are complaining that the .swf flickers like mad when they try to scroll. Not only that but other .swf files on the page (not in the floating box) also flicker while the user is scrolling.

Anyone know of a way to resolve this?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How To Remove Flicker?
I am using Flash 5.0 and I am trying to create a simple banner with the classic running lights. When I view it published, there is a flicker at the end before it loops back to the beginning. How do I get rid of this flicker? I attached the file in hopes someone can see my simple mistake.

Where Is This Flicker Coming From?
I made a very simple drop down menu system. However once the sub items appear they flicker each time the mouse enters the button hit box. I really have no idea why this is happening

The menu is just a series of keyframe. The first contains large hit boxes with goto frame commands. When you mouse over a menu item it jumps to a key frame which contains the menu sub-items and another hit box with the rollout command going back to frame 1. I just don't get why the items flicker when you enter each button's hitbox.

Any suggestions are hugely appreciated!

Flicker In Animations
One thing has always bugged me in flash, when I animate a vector object across the screen in Flash it always ends up flickering. There may be nothing I can do about it, but it's something I don't seem to notice in other peoples work.

You can view a small animation showing what I mean by the 'flicker' at http://www.sdm-solutions.co.uk/flash/movie1.swf , can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to erradicate it?

Don't suppose anyone would know where I can find a script or a tute to make a movie clip flicker a certain colour then change to that colour. I tried using setRGB but it does not work across levels.

Need Some Help To Tweak A Flicker
It is one of those things that drives a person mad. You've finished what you started, but there a few little gray hairs.

Anyways, I'd really appreciate someone taking a look at my file and seeing why I get a strange flicker if I do the following: rollover 'contact us' or 'products' and click on a sub-link. Then rollout of that section and rollover another section heading (no clicking), then go back to the section in which you clicked a sub-link. Notice how the heading and the sub-linsk flicker. Why the ****!?

Yes, it has me a little stressed, I do appologise. But, perhaps someone can be so good as to point the cause of the problem out ... thanks for taking the time.

Flicker Of The Cursor
I have four buttons inside two MC's, anyway i have just uploaded the beginnings of the new site, but i have noticed that when you mousover or click on the buttons, and then move to another one of the buttons - you see a flicker of the cursor on the previous button.

Can anyone take two seconds out of their day/night to take a look and tell me if they see this too. And if they do, can they also tell me why it happens ?

Loadmovie Flicker
I have a page transition being called onpress. It is loading the transition.swf into an empty movieclip in the _root swf and going to the nextframe() of the current movie. Basically the transition should be smooth in between frames.

It flickers right at the beginning making the transition pointless.

Any idea what is causing the flicker?

Flicker And Tearing
I'm 99% sure I have the answer to this already, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to make large objects move without all this flicker and tearing I'm getting.

My thought is it's just windows drawing......we probably need proper page flipping(like DirectDraw does) to fix it.

Flicker Effect...
so i'm thinking of making a movieclip flicker for a few seconds...now i wanted to just do it with the timeline and tween it, but i was thinking...how do they make those flicker things that flicker at random? if anybody knows how to do this, or has a tutorial, or knows another cool effect that relates to this and is willing to share, please do so.

also, i should point of that i'm doing this for a friend and he went looking around the intrawebs and found this:

Rollover Flicker Solution Please
Fellow Flashkit Members,
Currently in FlashMX I have noticed that when I rollover a custom hot button at a certain speed an unsightly white flicker appears for an instance. It appears so fast that I can't make out exactly what it is. It just looks like a white flicker that replaces the "POINTING FINGER" for an instance. What is interesting is that when I run the same file in Flash 5 I don't detect this white flicker when I roll over the same button.

If anyone out there has experienced this same roll over flicker in Flash MX I would like to know how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

Circle Flicker When Spinning

LoadMovie() - Flicker Problem
Hi All,

I'm trying to make a slot machine game and I've mostly got it.

The final issue is that when I load jpgs from an external folder and try to animate the target movie they've been loaded into, I get a flicker at each keyframe. I assume this is happening because the images are being reloaded at each keyframe.

The code in each blank movie (blank_1 ... blank_2) is very basic:

loadMovie("bmps/image_NUM.jpg", "blank_NUM" );
blank_NUM._height = 55;
blank_NUM._width = 55;

These blank movies are aligned in a row to make a reel movie. The reel movie is animated with tween/ease features inside reel_1 ... reel_3 movies to make it spin.

It works and looks realistic aside from the pesky flicker issue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

White Flicker Before Swf Loads
Hi, When I publish my html page with the flash embedded there is a white square where the swf sits. This is really unusual as the background in my html page is black, the table it sits in is black, the page property in my swf is black in fact everywhere is black yet there is still a white square that flashes just before the swf plays. It is driving me nuts as I have checked and rechecked. Any ideas please

Flame Or A Flicker - Alpha
hey guys. i've been trying to sort this out for ages but i just can't figure it! i have an image (it's actually just a gradient image) that i want to flicker/glow every now and then as it is considered a light source in a larger image!. Im guessing this is something you can do with a loop in Actionscript using alpha's etc.
I think you can do all this with alpha tween..but id rather use script!

Its either that or a nice fade up code.
If anybody has any ideas for code for this kinda thing id be very grateful for your help.
