Flash Menu With Multiple HTML Pages - How To Pass Variable To Menu On Refresh?

So the subject is a hint as to how hard it is to search on this simple idea.

PROBLEM DETAILS:
I am building a swf menu for an HTML site. It has the following buttons:

SectionA

SectionB

SectionC

What I want to do is modify the text when the HTML page for the correspoding section is loaded. So, if I click on "SectionB", SectionB.html loads. Now I want that button "SectionB" in the swf to have a background glow.

Of course the catch is, that each time a new HTML page loads, it reloads the swf menu (No Frames please!). So, naturally I know I can just tell the swf menu to go to a certain place in the timeline where there is the glow graphic behind "SectionB". But the swf needs a variable saying it is on a Section B HTML page. (of course I could build a seperate swf for each section - but that seems stupid.)

THUS....


MY QUESTION:
How do I pass a variable from a swf on one HTML page (that is being replaced by a new HTML page!), to a swf on a new HTML page.

Can I do this with a GET/POST or something?

Highlighting Menu Option On Flash Menu In HTML Page
Hi Folks,

I have created a Flash menu to work with an HTML based site (the menu is the object in all the pages), but I would like the menu option to stay highlighted when clicked. I've created a series of buttons that highlight when they are scrolled over, but when they are clicked, the button returns to its normal state, as it should. I did come up with a not-so-nice solution, by loading a new movie whenever the user clicks on the option, and the new movie has the menu selection highlighted. Is there a way for the user to click on the menu option and have it stay highlighted until a new menu selection is clicked without having to create mutliple movies?

Docking Flash Menu/Menu That Stays On The Bottom Of The Screen
i have a site designed but im attempting to get the navigation to stay docked on the bottom of the screen.
i've spent hours searching the web trying to come up with the solution but haven't succeeded

Is There Anyway To Disable The Flash Player Dropdown Menu (not The Context Menu)
Greetings,
I am aware of how to reset the right-click context menu to just "settings", but when the file is opened in Flash Player directly from a computer instead of on the web, the drop-down menu in the player is still available. You can even press ctrl+enter to play. My searches just come up with solutions to the right-click menu, and I have a client who wants me to get rid of this menu for a game I've already made.

If you don't think there's even a way to do this, could you just tell me that so I can inform my client?

How To Highlight An Active Menu Item In A Flash Menu
Hi,

I have a flash menu and I want each menu item to be highlighted according to which page it is on (e.g. Highlight the 'about us' link when the user is in the about us section) to save having to create more than one swf. At the moment I have all the highlights made invisible like this:

highlightOne._visible = false;

But have no idea how to make the swf know what page it is on or how to make a highlight visible accordingly.

Can anyone help me out?

Flash Expanding Menu Instead Of Javascript Drop Down Menu?
I am trying to make a flash file that will take the place of a javascript drop down menu. I need to have a slim horizontal menu bar surrounded top and bottom by the rest of the HTML webpage.



The function of the flash menu would be such that when one of the buttons are moused over > the menu would expand over the HTML images below it with more menu buttons.



This is really easy to do with javascript but I want the creative freedom flash offers. Does anyone know how I can create a flash file that can expand larger than it’s original size on the webpage



I have seen some really neat flash banner ads that definitely are on top of other html. Maybe I could do something like that.

Drop Menu / Combo Box Menu In Flash MX
Im trying to develop a really simple (i.e. 4 or so links) via a Flash MX Combo Box component...

Im lost as to how the action script looks to actually make it 'work'... I understand how to use the component to create the drop menu (i.e. - the labels and the data (URL) lists)...

Does anyone have an example they can show me or is there a Tutorial somewhere that I've missed in my Googling?  (I tried Flashkit.com but no luck.

Flash Drop Down Menu Like Fireworks Drop Down Menu
Is it possible to make a drop down menu in flash that drops down on top of html on the webpage? (i'm not sure how to describe this, what I mean is a drop down menu like the one used on Launch.com) I know this is possible in fireworks, but I want the buttons to have flash rollovers... is it possible to first off do this in flash or 2nd import my flash to fireworks and then make the drop down from there? Autorun A CD-R With Flash Exe Menu And Flash Exe Game Icons
Hi everybody, I'm wondering if anyone here has ever tried to do the following successfully.  When you buy a game for PC, after you insert the CD-ROM, it starts playing, a menu shows up, you can do stuff, and if you want, you can usually get back to that opening menu.  I would like to be able to do the same thing.  I apologize for the wordiness of this - it's kind of complicated ;) !

I use Flash MX.  I've made 4 games that I'd like to share with friends and family by burning them on a CD-R and mailing them.  To make sure everyone can see the games I will publish the games as EXE's (Flash Projector for Windows built in).   There will thus be 4 game exe's plus an "intro" exe, for a total of 5 flash exe's.

I want the CD-R to play soon as they pop it in the drive, so I will put an autorun file on the CD-R that points to the "intro" exe.   

The intro will display text saying "hi, here's the games.  To play a game, just click on the appropriate button!".  Below the text will be 4 buttons, one for each game.

Thus the contents of the CD-R will look like this:  2 files and one folder, namely:  the autorun.ini, the intro.exe and a folder labelled fscommand.  Within this folder will be:   game1.exe, game2.exe, game3.exe, and game4.exe.  For those who don't know, in FlashMX, if you want to use fscommand exec you have to put the applications in a subfolder called 'fscommand' that is in the same directory as the projector.  This is supposed to help prevent malicious use.

If, for example, someone clicks the 1st game button on the intro menu, game1,exe will run and game one will appear because on that button was scripted:

on(press){fscommand("exec","game1.exe")}

I have tested this out and it works fine.   The Problem:

What to do with the intro.exe still existing once game1.exe runs?   I could just get rid of it by scripting 'fscommand("quit")' when a person clicked on any of intro'exe's game buttons.  But then what happens when a person closes the game?  There would be nothing at all and it would be great if intro.exe was still there so they could then select another game to try.  Couldn't I just leave the intro menu 'open' while any game is playing since it isn't really doing anything except displaying the welcoming message and 4 buttons, right?   Is it alright to have more than one projector playing at once?

Or is there a way, when someone exits a game, for the intro exe to be run again?  There seems to be a dilemma.    To be able to use fscommand exec within a game to get the intro.exe going, the intro exe itself would have to be in the same folder as the game.exe itself, which is illogical since the games are already in a subfolder within the intro.exe's directory.   I suppose that all a person would have to do when they quit a game is just double click on the drive again to get the autorun going and then the intro exe would show up.

Does anyone know a way around this?  Also, is there a way, once autorun plays the intro exe, to allow someone to see the CD-R's contents, other than the person having to right click and select "open" to see what's on the CD-R?

Flash Content Overlapping Flash Menu
Need Help with Flash Content Overlapping Flash Menu in different frames!

Hello,

I am working on a church's website where they have a non-editable design template as the main framework of all the pages of the website, but the main content frame of the pages are editable.

I created a new flash movie for one of the pages, and embedded it in there, but now, the flash menu that comes with the template gets hidden by my movie, making it very difficult to navigate AWAY from the page after my movie loads.

What do I do to make my movie go to the bottom layer and any menu animations be displayed above my movie. I am a newbie so I am not sure if I am using the right lingo to describe my problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or need to clarify anything to understand what I am saying

I just noticed that it displays perfectly fine in IE 7 ... and I encountered the problem while viewing in Firefox - this makes me feel a lot better, and leads me to beleive that it is a inconsistency between how IE and Firefox reads the HTML .... is there anything I can do to have firefox process the HTML correctly?

Drop-down Menu In Flash With Non Flash Content
Can you have a website with just the navigation in flash that has dropdown menu that goes over non-flash (html only) content?

OR will the navigation have to have big white space on the bottom for the menu to drop down into?

I want it to go over the content that is non flash.

Flash XML Menu
Has anybody used the XML Menu Templates in Flash MX? I've got one that works great, the drop-down that I wish to use on my site, however I want to write some actionscript that performs like this: when you click one, the others collapse. Currently, if you click one, the other menu items stay open or "expanded". I want to work it to if you expand one, the others collapse. Any suggestions?

Pop-Up Menu's In Flash MX
I want to make a website which is navigable through a map. I made the continents and such and put names for the continents. When the user rolls their mouse over the name of the continent, I want an animation of a line going out of the name and just showing a box that describes the continent. I'm confused and already tried a tutorial on it (http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Actionscripting/Creating-Brett_Ta-121/index.shtml) but I don't want to make the sub-menu's clickable. I just want the message to show up when the user runs their mouse over the name of the continent.

Okay I’m creating a game in Flash and I just wondering if any one knew how I could go about creating the standard menu system that run across of all applications...You know like File, Edit, Help etc... Hey People,

Im trying to make a flash menu that loads movie clips into an area. up the top there are buttons that when clicked i need to load a movie down the bottem. its like a product catalouge. i also need the buttons to hold a state once clicked, ie so the users know they have clicked it and that product is 'active'.

ive tried the loadmovie action on buttons but i need to unload the bottem and top clips that could be any one of say 15 products. surely there is a better way of unloading the last movies loaded that unloading all possible clips.

ive also tried pointing the main timeline to a frame with the relevent product info on it. however when i attatch the gotoAndStop(); command to the relevent button it does nothing. ive specified the main scence as well.

this should be easy! what am i doing wrong?

Flash Menu For CD Rom
I'm trying to do is create a Autorun Menu in Flash instead of using Multimedia Builder and place the Flash Projector Exe on a cd so when you put the CD in your CD Rom it automatically runs the Flash Exe and when you click a button on the Flash Menu it opens either PDF Files, Text Files, Starts to install a program and so on. Can this be done in Flash i've seen a few cd's that have this feature.
Has anyone done this before.

Flash Menu Help
I'm new to menu building, and needa little help. I'm trying to create a menu, where when you click on a heading, the other headings move down, and sub links appear for the heading that was clicked.

I've managed to get one heading done, but can't seem to get the rest working; the other headings can be seen when they shouldnt be. I'm preety sure I know why, but I dont know another mehtod of going about this. I've attached my .fla. Any help, in any form, would be greatly appreciated. Hi everybody !

I would like to integrate a flash menu into an html file without having it restarting at 0 each time you go to any menu choice page.

I explain it clearly :

Flash menu is like : welcome | about us | portfolio | contact

If user click on "about us" - it goes to the page "about us" where again the flash menu animation start at 0. I just want to see the menu not all the previous animation showed at first page.

Is there any way, that works on most browser, to do this ?

I made a menu bar in flash 5, and i have it so you click on the main menu, and 3 bars go out from the bottom of the main... Flash Menu
Ok, I'm making a menu for my site in flash, and my script seems to be wrong. I have the background image on the bottom layer, then on the layer above it i have 4 buttons, each has this script:

Where the stuff in bold changes between the buttons.

What keeps happening is that I click on the buttons and sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it takes me to the wrong page.

Is there a better method to doing it? Or is the script wrong because I did it in normal mode and even with my limited scripting knowledge it just doesn't look right.

Asp Menu In Flash
Hi.. i'm programmer, but i have a database and i need to link the pages in the database using a flash menu... i already have an asp menu that works, i must be able to make that run in flash.
Each button of the menu links to a page and adds the id of the pacient (that is the database content).

New To Flash...looking For Help On Menu
I am new to Flash and am attempting to create a new version of my corporate website utilizing this tool. I want to build a menu/navigation movie similar to that of www.accenture.com. Help With Flash Menu
I am fairly new at using flash and am trying to build a web menu. My problem is with navigation. I have my menu as an object within an html website and it has main menu and submenu items. When the a main menu item is chosen the other main menu items below scroll down to reveal the submenu items. However, when a sub menu item is clicked with a link to a new page, my flash menu starts over again from the beginning on the new page and does not leave the submenu open.

How can I keep the submenu open so the user knows where he is within the menu at all times?
