Netscape / Transparency Actionscript Issue
OK, if anyone can help me solve this problem I will be eternally grateful, it's the only thing holding me up right now...

I have a flash site that enables a transparent background. The transparent background works in most recent versions of Netscape I've tried, however, the site is very interactive and uses an onClipEvent function, where the user can use the arrow keys to move their little character around the site.

The problem is this: in Netscape, it doesn't recognize the arrow keys. So, when the user hits the arrow keys nothing happens. However, when I take the transparent background tag off, it works fine in Netscape.

how to embed a transparent flash movie in an html document?

so that, say, the background of the movie is see-through?

it's to allow an html wallpaper to come through around the edges of non-rectangular flash elements.

i tried using WMODE="transparent" in the <object> tag but no luck.

I'm using Flash for a logo on a page. I need the HTML layers below to show through the Flash layer. Window mode is set for "transparent windowless" in the publish setting when I publish from Flash, and I entered the proper parameters in Dreamweaver ("wmode" "transparent"). No matter how I stack the various layers, the Flash is still on top and not allowing underlying layer through. Yes I have a current browser (IE6). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Flash Movie Not Playing In Netscape 4
Hi there:

I created a flash movie really simple picture swapping with fading in and out. It plays on Explorer fine. It does not play on Netscape 4 on the Mac or PC. This is for a college website so we need it to work on Netscape 4. Alot of people still have not updated there Netscape.

I published it by choosing to save as a Flash 4 version. It was created in Flash MX.

I have done a little movie in WildFx or text and that works fine in Netscape 4. Why does a swf created in WildFx or Swish work and not Flash MX.

It doesn't even prompt the user to update to Flash 6.

Print Flash Movie In Netscape 8
Flash movie reference in html/asp page. The movie is a report/line graph, similar to how I use Crystal Reports in VB.

The html and Flash movie print / print preview in IE 6/7.

The html prints / print preview, with vertical space for Flash movie in Netscape. The Flash movie does NOT print!

Publishing Flash Movie In Netscape
I've published a flash movie that goes into my html page, which works fine and all the commands work when I open the html file in Internet Explorer, but when I click on the link through Netscape, it just shows binary code.

Is there are a way I can make sure it publishes properly in both brousures?

I was wondering if there were any known reasons why my flashmovie won't show up in Netscape. I'm using a regular embed statement, and for some reason it won't show up even when the user downloads the newest flash plugin.

Problem With Flash Movie Loading In Netscape 4x
Hi,

I have made a website using Flash MX and during the cross browser testing. The site works in almost all browsers but I encountered a strange problem in Netscape 4.7, it seems that flash is not executing some of the action scripts properly.

In the site I am calling external swfs and jpgs, which get loaded fine in all other browsers (even in Netscape 6.2 or higher) but not in Netscape 4x. The problem is that the swf or jpg gets loaded in the browser’s cache but doesn’t show up in the movie.

Following is the code that creates the problem :

loadMovie("tree.swf", "/treetmp");

gotoAndPlay(4);
}

I got the bytes displayed on the screen, both got same as the file got loaded but still it doesn’t execute the GotoAndPlay action.

This code creates a problem only in Netscape 4x and not in any other browser.

Very strange problem. Please advice.

Flash Movie Crashes Firefox And Netscape
Hi all,

I've been looking all over and find other people with some problem like this, but no solutions/facts.

When I run this one SWF that calls in an XML document from a PHP file, and then pulls up content according to that file, Mozilla browsers are hanging up and crashing. Safari, IE and Opera aren't bothered by the movie, but Firefox and Netscape give this warning after loading a couple of bytes of data:

"The plugin performed an illegal operation."

Sometimes, though, Netscape or Firefox will work correctly for a single or a few loads of the movie and then start hanging again.

Any ideas as to what could cause this? Thanks a billion.

Problems Viewing A Flash Movie With Netscape

Netscape 4.7 For Mac Keeps Crashing My Flash Movie And My Preloader Won't Work?
I have been testing my flash movie, and when testing it on Netscape 4.7 for a Mac it keeps crashing and closing the browser. I really didn't think there was much complexity to the flash movie for it not to work properly cross platform. This is how the movie works.
A splash page appears(splash page preloads external .swfs in the background), you click a button to load the intro,(which is a javascript popup window) when the intro is finished it automatically loads the home page into the current window.
My preloader, which i have removed the percent loaded, does not work, neither does the
Bytes Loaded
Kilobyes Loaded
Total Kilobytes loaded
Netscape sucks s$%#! Does anyone have some advice on how to deal with Netscape 4.7 or the problem I'm encountering?

Netscape Doesn't Show Full Sized Flash Movie
I used java function explained in Flash tutorials for opening full screen scroller free browser. It works so fine with IE but when I tried opeing the same with Netscape the movie gets loaded in 200 x 300 pixels (very small compared to the real size 800 x 600 pixels(thats original size)

could anyone explain why does that happen?

Transparency Within Movie
I know how to make a movie transparent through HTML means as described in Kirupa's tut here, but how does one make transparent the background of a movie clip that will be loaded into another movie?

To make it clearer, I have two movies; movie two will load into movie 1.
I'm looking for info on how to set the alpha on movie 2 so that movie 1's background will be seen (somewhat). I'd like to have some text with a scrollbar (call it movie 2) load into movie one so that you can still see some of movie 1 in the background.
I'm afraid if I simply make a movie and load it in it will show up as a giant block with the canvas colour as its background. I'd like to make that background with a limited alpha.

I haven't seen anything in the tuts that covers this one so any help would be appreciated!

Movie Not Loaded In Netscape 4.7
My movie works in IE6, Netscape6 but not Netscape 4.7. When I right click over the space, I get the message 'Move not lodaed'. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get a Flash movie working for both IE and Netscape? Thanks.

Movie Won't Load In IE But Does In Netscape Why? Help
please help me real quick? I made an eyeball movie for my website that loads after the _root movie loads. There's a button at half alpha of it that loads the eyeball when you rollover it. It works perfect in Netscape but doesn't work at all in IE. i tried it on my Mac IE and on my PC IE too! below is my code:

Movie Background Only On Netscape Not IE?
My movie background color is only visible on netscape, not IE. When I button is clicked the movie scrolls and has a bounce to it, so when it bounces on IE you see white in the bg but on netscape it is the dk brown color it should be. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

Movie Transparency Actionscript Problem
I have a movie that loads data from an ASP page. That data is used to create bar charts. Depending on the values drawn from the ASP page, the bars change in length and tint. Everything works fine at this point. The problem is that I want to put all of the bars in a movie and alter that movies transparency (to create transitions between scenes). I am making a color object for each bar which includes the bar's transparency. I thought that changing the transparency of the movie would override the color object but it doesn't. When I change the transparency of the movie, everything fades, but the bar's alphas remain at 100%. Does anyone know an easy fix for this? Below is a snippet of my code. I can post a sample of the movie if anyone doesn't understand the explaination of my problem.

I could write action script to change the transparency of all the bars individually, but there are a lot of them and it seems like there should be a way to do it by altering the movie as a whole.

Open New Movie/scene With Transparency
Hi,

I am new to this list and might as well be new to Flash. My knowledge is more in php, html etc. However, I need to get something together in Flash and while I can usually figure something out ... I think I need a bit of help with this.

I have a map created in Flash where I want to be able to click on a country and have a semi-transparent window come up over top so you can still see the outline of the selected country through the window, Into this window, I need to be able to dynamically load text (plain and/or html), images, other flash or flash video. I also want the movie or scene to zoom up to a set size and then zoom back to nothing on close.

So, are transparent backgrounds possible? Should I be opening a new movie or a new scene? I also need this new window to grab data from an external file or database (XML or MySQL).

A tall order perhaps but any help or direction will certainly be appreciated.

LoadMovie And Transparency In Main Movie
Hello kirupas,

I am loading a photo gallery (swf) in a movieclip in the main movie of my site.

The main movie contains a transparent menu on a layer above the photo gallery, but the movie keeps loading above all the time. I have tried to solve this by masking out for the menu in the photo gallery movie, but then I'm losing the transparency in the menu. I've tried some different levels as well without any result.

Do you have any suggestions?

Does Netscape 6.2 Slow Down A Movie's Execution?
Are there any known issues with a movie's frame rate and the netscape browser? A movie that plays smoothly in Internet Explorer 5.1 (Mac) seems slow on Netscape 6.2 (Mac). Sufficient memory has been allocated to both browsers and no other programs are active; using a 400Mhz G4.

Movie Plays In I.E. But Not In Netscape Or Opera... Help
This is scary...
I have an intro movie at http://ambaji.com.au
It works fine in IE5 Opera6.1 and Netscape6.
There is a link 30 sec into this movie that goes to a full music version of the same movie.
IE runs it fine but Opera and Netscape just freeze on what may be the blank first frame of the new movie. Arghhh!

I dont know if this has anything to do with the new movie being set up so that it loads layer 1 and then calls for a much larger (1150kb) movie in layer 2. As I said it works fine in Internet Explorer though.

I cant think why Opera and Netscape would handle the no music 760kb version well but balk at the 1150kb 2 layered music version.

Any clues anyone??

Loading Movie Clips In IE Vs Netscape
I have just uploaded my company's website and noticed something odd when I tried it in IE (Mac, version 5.1 and on our old PC). The portfolio section is in 5 different swfs, each set up to load/unload in an empty movie clip. IE sometimes shows the preloader but the actual portfolio pieces do not appear when the corresponding buttons are clicked. This worked perfectly well on my computer before I uploaded it. The odd thing is that it works fine when I try it in Netscape 7. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Could it be because the preloader for each portfolio swf is in a separate scene? I've been hearing bad things about scenes in this forum...

• a piece *should* appear in the empty white space, but doesn't in IE

Movie Displays Very Small Or Is Cut Off In Netscape 7.1; OK In IE On OSX 2.8

Wonder if anyone else has encountered this and if so, how they fixed it.

The movie's publish settings are:

Flash Player 5 (although it was created in MX 2004 Professional)
Dimensions are set to percent with 100 width and height.
Scale is default

It seems to work properly at this URL although it is not set to scale:

At this URL, it scales but the bottom half of the movie seems to be obscured by another element and I cannot tell what’s going on in Dreamweaver. It is not in a table. I tried another version in a table but there is only one tr and td defined and the same problem occurs.

Another developer suggested that I try linking to the .swf directly and that that would work, which it did:

Netscape 7: Javascript Won't Control Movie.
I'm trying make my movies work with Netscape 7.
To this end, I've created an incredibly simple looping swf.
In my <object> tag, I've told the player not to play the movie automatically when it loads.
My next step is to have Javascript use the play() method to start the movie.  I'm assuming that if I can do this, everything else will fall into place.

The behavior that I'm seeing is that the object objFlash is assigned the object, put the play() call makesNS grumble, "objFlash.play is not a function".

Any help would make me very happy.

Transparency/Shape Tweening/Movie Clips
I have an image for the background of something that basically acts like a new frame. I want to make that image transparent so I could see the background underneath that. On the other hand, it's going to be changing shapes so I can't just make it a symbol. How do I achieve this effect?

Record Transparency Of Multiple Movie Clips
im rather new to flash, so i'm not sure if i'm using the right terms

but, i have multiple movie clips of an image. and depending on where the mouse is positioned determines each movie clips transparency. the effect is that you can see up to multiple images at a time.

anyways. . . i want to be able to stop at certain points. and take the culmative image that's displayed. "record" it. and then move it to another area of the stage.

should i be looking to load the variables of all the image movie clips into an new mc? not really sure of the logic to this. . .

Load Movie To Different Levels Do Not Work With Netscape 4.5
Hi,

I have a main movie and can load many external swf into various levels. It can be played correctly online if I used IE5.

The problem is that some of the external movies that use the following script on a button did not work.

Will Netscape 4.5 be different from IE5 in terms of viewing Flash 5 movie?

Menu (movie Clip) Won't Work In Netscape
my navigation isn't working in netscape but it works in explorer. the navigation is a movie clip that control the main timeline of the different scences. i've been using each of these codes on different occassions but they still won't work in netscape. what should i do?

Transparent Movie Backgrounds In Netscape And Macs
Hi All,

Is it correct that it's not possible to create a movie in Flash that has a transparent background, enabling the html background upon which the movie sits to be seen through the movie, for Netscape and Macs???

I have tried adding my html background as the bottom layer of the movie but can't get the correct alignment with the surrounding elements of the frame which contains the movie.

Can anyone suggest a way around this problem?

Load Movie Doesn't Work In Netscape
We have a Flash movie that works fine in netscape but at the end of it we have a button with a Load Movie action on it so that when you click the button it loads a new movie. This works fine in IE but not not in Netscape.

Any ideas why not?

Using A Button To Control The Transparency (alpha) Of A Movie Clip
Hello i am completely new to the forum and i have been racking my brain searching for tutorials on this, i have done a search on buttons controlling movie clips and alot of stuff did come up but it was not exactly what i was looking for.

i am creating a HUD ( heads up display) for a game me and a few friends are making, i have windows i made in photoshop and turned into movie clips which i would like to control using buttons.

What i would like to do is when i click the buttons i would like them to control the transparency of the windows, for eg. when i click my button i would like the window to appear at 100% then when i click it again for it to go to 0% as if i have closed the window.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has had me up late so many nights. I am using flash cs3 and action script 2.0 as i a familiar with it.
