Please help i am trying to make a flash navbar i can get the buttons to work and a drop down submenu but cant get the below buttons to drop down when the submenu above drops down example here at http://www.lambda-complex.com/

How Do I Control A Flash Movie From A Seperate Flash Navigation Bar. Actionscript?
I need to create a flash navigation that controls another flash movie in the middle of the screen. In other words, when someone clicks on a menu item it pulls up one of the frames in the flash movie. If you click on another item, it pulls up another frame in the flash movie and so on. The flash navigation bar is on the left and the movie is in the middle of the screen. I have both movies created, I just need to connect them. Are we talking about actionscript here? any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Hiya,
couple of quick questions I've been wondering about. I'm thinking of building a site using a flash section for navigation. First question is, if I use the same Flash movie in different pages will it just pull it from the cache, or will it try to reload it every time.
Second question is, assuming it'll use a cached version then is there any way I can put a javascript variable in the html page so the reusable Flash movie will read it and will set it's own state accordingly.
Any help much appreciated.

Okay, I am sort of a newbie at Flash, so try to bear with me. I work at an Internet company, and I was given the .fla file to a certain navigation bar. The skinny:

-I need to change the spelling on a couple of things, but the buttons have already been broken apart so I need to redo them
-I need to add two brand new links to the Flash navigation
Thing is, I find it very hard to follow another designer's train of thought. I am totally lost in this. Can someone help me? I can include the .fla file if neccesary.

I have a site I am working on with two frames (a top frame and a bottom frame) In the top frame is my flash navigation and in my bottom frame is my html pages. How do I make the buttons in my flash navigation control what html is displayed in the bottom frame?

Navigation Help {Flash MX}
I’m creating a navigation that has five buttons, each button links to a movie that contains an intro animation, the main movie, and an exit animation. I can't figure out how (in flash) to know which button has been selected prior (ie, If I select button #1 then select button #3. How can I tell button #3 that button #1 was selected first?) so that I can play the previously selected buttons' (button #1) associated movie exit animation then play the selected buttons' (button #3) intro.

Flash Only Navigation ?
I am designing a site where the client is requesting an animated navigation. So the nav would be a .swf in the html document.
My question is: is this easy to do? Is it efficient? What are the drawbacks? Does anyone have samples of site like this?

Flash MX Navigation
Got a doozy here....
I have two html files each of which contains seperate swf files. So Html A has swf file A, and HTML B has swf file B. Now in swf file B I need to link to a certain frame number/label in swf file A.
Currently when you click on the link, it just takes you back to swf file A frame 1 no matter what I try.

I want to have a flash.swf with the navigation menu in the "top" frame of the HTML page. When the user clicks on the buttons on the flash, I want it to control the display of pages in the "bottom" frame of the HTML page.
The actionscript for the buttons:
on(release){
getURL("page.htm", "bottom")
}
Its not working.
The page is not displaying in the "bottom" frame.
There is no change in the "bottom" frame.

I am trying to write a navigation script, that opens when you hover over it, but I need it to close if the mouse is no longer over it, but the problem is I tried on Mouse out. Everytime I run the mouse across the button the nav menu stays open forever. What would I want to do make it close even if the mouse is out of the entire flash movie.

Hi Guys & Gals,
I want to build a site that is completely flash, somewhat similar to a webpage with frames. somewhat similar to www.waterwayproductions.com . My question is this. Is each button going to be a link to just a differnt frame in the movie? Lets say I wanted to fly some text in from the top for a certain page. Would it just be a simple button whose properties would be to jump to frame 65 (or whatever) where at 65 would play and stop on 70 where the text flies in inbetween? Does this make sense? I checked all the tutorials and stuff but I couldnt find the info i needed there. Thanks so much!

i understand the basic navigation aspects but after viewing the following flash site i am stumped.

most navigation either 'whipes' out the screen each time or simply lays new content over the original content.
this site 'knows' which navigation scene you come from each time.
each scene has a different size for the left box. and the left box scales from the existing layout size to the correct size for the new scene. either backwards or fowards.
does anyone know of a tutorial that could explain this (scripting or timeline)?

Help With A Flash Navigation Bar
Aight here is the situation.
I have made a Flash navigation bar for the menu of a website I am working on. Any of the buttons that dont have a submenu work fine. any of the ones that do allow the submenus to expand. But the buttons in the submenu dont work. The actionscript is correct but it just wont work.
Any ideas... if youre willing to help maybe i can send you the fla to take a look at.

I am new to Flash MX. I have been playing around with this flash file 0954 buttons.fla. I could get the first and the last buttons to link to any website I wanted by using onRelease and getURL commands. Flash Navigation - Help
I'm working from a Flash template and trying to get navigation buttons working. The problem is that you have to click on each button twice to get to the actual corresponding content — the first time you click on the button, it brings up the "home page" again, then when you click on it again, the correct page comes up.
The template is storing all of the inner pages in a button off of the screen called "pages." Each button has the following (as an example of one button) as the actionscript:
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay("s1");
}
on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
gotoAndPlay("s2");
}
on (release) {
if (_root.b<>4) {
unloadMovie;
_root.play();
_root.b = 4;
}
}
I didn't touch the scripting on the inner pages, but I may have deleted something important on the "home page" that's causing this. Any ideas?

Hello, I have just started working with flash and i am eventually going to do some flash animation for my dad's business website. Right now I am just learning the basic stuff and what I am practicing with is my Myspace page :/
I am trying to create a flash navigation based page in which im am going to theme off of HL2
I am a little confused on how Myspace filters out the embedding codes and im not sure which one to use because all of them i have used so far wont let the action script work for some reason. here is the first button i have made.

when I attempt to embed it within the profile, it has no action when you click it.

hey guys, i'm new to this community and i can't seem to figure out this problem that has been bugging me the past week.
I made a nav bar in flash and i want to link the submenus but it wont let me link anything in a movie clip for some reason. it seems that after I animate it, then I can't link anything. I'll attach the fla and maybe you can tell me what's wrong with it. I want to link the submenu under "Services" so I can go to each page. Maybe it's with my version of Flash, it's the MX version. I used to be able to link from movie clips but for some reason it's not letting me =/

[Flash MX] Navigation Help
Hi,
I am building a flash site at the moment, but it's my first one, so please bear with me. I've done a few presentation in FLash before, but really don't know much about scripting.
Anyway, I've got four menu buttons and I need them to go to a specified frame in the timeline to play on for a while, but at the end of that it would need to go to the different labels depending on which button was pressed.
I thought I could set a variable whne the button is pressed so the on release event is go to and play frame 41 and set home=true, then when the timeline has played onto frame 55 put a frame action on saying if home=true then go to label home.
does that make any sense?

Ey Guys,
I was trying to create a flash top navigation that overlaps content. I used layers to set the top navigation above the content. This was done by setting the flash layer to an absolute position. The error i encountered though was even the the flash file was set to transparent and content under the flash file was seen, links within the content were not clickable anymore. Would anyone know how to dynamically set the layer of a flash file so that it is only the topmost layer when selected?

I made this block of buttons to act as navigation on a website. Using Dreamweaver, I embedded the swf in each html page. I used getURL on the Flash buttons to load pages of the site, using "_self" for the target.
The problem is that when the buttons are used, the transition to the new page is ugly! The block of btns disappears for a second completely. The entire web page seems to go blank and then the new one blink into existence. It's very jerky and ugly.
Is there a way to fix this? Have I implemented Flash navigation into HTML correctly? Is there a way I could load the swf once for the entire site without using Frames?

Hey there, I'm currently making a site that thrives on flash, but I need some help. We are trying to make the buttons on navigation not stand out, just text, and when you roll over, there are 3-4 slides of an animation (Where the words have a glow fly across one side to the other)
Here is the navigation without a background or any mouse-overs:

I'm not going to show you the rest because there's about 4 pictures for each button.
Anyway, I made the entire thing in Photoshop, including every frame I intended to animate. Now, I need to make each button in flash so that it fits correctly into the navigation bar and has no hiccups. I have CS3. How would I go about doing that?

I'm doing a flash site and it is now in it's critical stage. I have a main movie where i have links to different different sections wich have been loaded usind loadMovie concept. Now i have one requiremnt to access to attach a movieclip from a externally loaded .swf . My problem also will be solved if i can access a purticular scene of a external swf or purticular frame( level) of the loaded .swf.
Note: I want to jump to a purticular frame of one externally loaded movie when i click on button in the _root movie.

which is very good but i'm trying to get the navigation to load external .swfs
into the same swf file. I created this in the actionscript but i'm not sure its correct

and added this to the xml file thinking it could insert the AS script (this is in the XML)

now listen i am in the process of doing a little navigation in my site using flash..

Im new to Flash and want to create a simple .swf file that I can use as a plugin.
Need a 4 page flash animation with back and forward buttons included for the user to scroll through the pages. I have tried using flash presentation and slides but cant get the buttons to work properly with the action script to go to the next/last pages. I have flash MX 2004.

Hi,
I need some help with the navigation for a site I am building.
All of the sites I build use php and incorporate a content management system. Usually, the url for each site would be something like http://www.mysite.co.uk/page.php?id=2
And them my page displays the content dependant on the id in the url.
What I'm trying this time is to have my navigation buttons in flash. The problem is that the id in the url depends on what page they last visited. I can do this easily in php but in actionscript I only know how to add the url to the button if I already know what the id would be.
I know there is a way to combine php and flash but I don't know how to go about it. Can someone help or tell me a good tutorial for it?
