Flash :: How Can I Create This Type Of Effects

ITunes-type Visual Effects...
hi,

a friend of mine asked me today if it was possible to
create a Flash special effect similar to the ultra-cool iTunes Visual Effects generator from Apple.

for those who haven't seen it, iTunes is Apple's new mp3 software that lets you manage your music collections.

It features a Visual Effects component: when you launch it, the screen fades to black and starts generating animated, random shapes and color that look like some sort of electromagnetic pulsation, a bit like if you were flying into a surreal energy vortex.

the effects never repeat themselves; every time you launch it, you are in for a new visual treat. very cool.

If anyone has any Flash prototypes that could produce something similar to the iTunes visual effects, I'd love to see some samples and try to understand how it is done.

on this site the fellar has a really nice effect in his navigation with the btn_mc's moving accroding to the individual animations. How can I get one MC to move a other MC on rollover? (if it's done like that at all?)

I Want To Create 3D Effects
I have been working on ActionScript 2.0 for last one year...i am also new for programming, actionscript is the first language that i have learnt....i used to write the codes on the object directly and sometimes on the frame but i never used class in as 2.0.

basically i am a mathematician, only because of being mathematician my boss allowed me to do r&d on as. Now i am working on some projects in which i want to create 3D effects(3D grapher, rotate, zoom in, zoom out)..i want to start working on as3.0...so what is the initial step i should take to learn class....

for a new client.. I would like to impress them by scripting it instead of tweening every single letter by hand.
I did find a couple generators here on flashkit but I need a .fla to give to the client... beside I am pretty close to actionscript illiterate...

How To Create Those Damned Masking Effects ...
I've searched through just about every Flash reference site, but I still can't find anythin on creating masked slideshow effects like the examples below:

Link Three
Link Four

These files were saved from template sites, where I saw the effect.
I've tried creating a moving image below the mask which is a series of lines 20 pixels apart. The duplicating the layers, only alternating the position of the lines - but this effect seems thoroughly pathetic. You can find the exported file for this failed attempt using this link.

Please tell me what I'm doin wrong? Should I rather be using ActionScript?

Fancy Box Type Moving Graphic Type Cool Efect But Im To Dumb Type Thingy
i am tring to make a box thinky simaler to the one on www.starvingeyes.com but cant even work out how to start it. is there anyone who can point me in the right direction or to a tutorial ?

the box has a graphic inside a grided box the sections of the graphic fade in and out as the mouse goes over them and displays random sections when the user is not moving the mouse over the box

i did find java tutorials for this effect but would much preffer it to come from flash as java is a bugger to get working on some machines

How Do I Create Newer Flash Animations/effects?
I was wondering what was involved with making some of the newer animations I see on the higher-end flash sites, mostly in the intros, where the preloader is seamlessly replaced by the site itself. Techniques that get the borders, links and pics on the site, but do more than just scroll and bounce back and forth, like in these sites

Specifically borders that come on screen and seem to 'bounce' in place against the opposite side of the screen, boxes that look like they come alive, flashing and morphing before filling with text or links.
And also how do you go about making a box outline or similar shape the starts at one point, follows the perimeter of the shape as if it were being drawn, and stops leaving the outline? I've tried tweening and morphing lines and such, but that ain't cuttin' it. I realize that the techniques I'm describing are probably a bit above my level, as I don't even know how to properly describe them, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, so I could at least begin to learn. Last time I posted about this, it flopped.

Check out the intro on Liquidweb.com . You have to click "replay intro" on the bottom left because it doesn't play by default. Near the beginning, after the animated 3D boxes disappear, there is a graphic that appears that seems to be "translucent" but it's like you're looking through water or gel because the background looks "refracted" through it.

How is this achieved?

Now I know that its pretty complicated but i have some previous experiances with similar things but not this in particular. I can do a scrolling backround and player movement but what i cant quite do yet is have enemies walk up to you and use there attacks when there close to you. Very Simple Flash-type Software To Create Animated Text Gifs
Hi

I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a Swish-type package that I can use to create simple animated text gifs. Let me explain more.

I want to send out animated text messages (which also include two static gifs) on emails to my customers to promote my Company.

I presumed that Swish would let me do that but you can't seem to export to gif so I wonder whether anyone here can recommend an alternative.

The package would need to be:-

1 - VERY easy
2 - Allow to export to gif
3 - Allow fancy animated text effects
4 - & also two static gifs either side of the text.

All suggestions welcome please.

How To Do Translucent "liquid"-type Effects In MX
Hey all, haven't been here in a while...anyway, check out the header intro on Liquidweb.com ...you have to click on "replay intro" cause it doesn't by default...anyway, see how there are shapes you can see through that sort of "refract" the graphics behind it? I'd like to know how that is done. It can't be something with a zero alpha, cause then you couldn't see it at all. How did they do this?

Pixel/Bitmap Vs True Type/Open Type Fonts
I'm new to flash and I've been getting conflicting advice on which type of fonts to use. I've done several searches in the forms and I'm still just as puzzled so I've decided to start my own discussion on the subject. So here we go:
1) Are Pixel and bitmap fonts the same type of font?
2) Which is better to use True Type or Pixel (bitmap) fonts and where and/or why

Please help this newbie to flash and jump in with your opinion, experiences, etc.

Making A String Type Into A Number Type
The title is probably misleading and because I’m new to flash and coding this is probably a very simple problem. What I am trying to do is make a function in which I give the name of an instance, it adds the ._alpha and then have the function take the instance and have the instance go from being visible to invisible.

The following is the code that I have developed.

function dealpha(dename:Number):Void{
dealpha = (dename) ++ (._alpha);
for(i=0;i<100;i++){
dealpha -=1;};
};
dealpha(mc_mc);

The error that I get when I compile the file is this

Syntax error.
dealpha = (dename) ++ (._alpha);

Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1

I appreciate any help that I can get with this code.

Compile Type Check For Object Type
I used Flex Builder 3 to compile my actionscript. I have a question regarding the compile type check for type Object. I have set my compiler to strict mode, but it does not seem to detect this compile type error:

var o:Object = new Object();
o.foo(); //this should generate compile type error because foo() is not method inside Object, but flex builder is just silent.

But if I try this

var s:String = new String();
s.foo(); //flex build flag this as error

flex builder correctly detects the reference error.

I can't understand the reason for the different behavior for the Object type versus the String type. Can anyone help to explain the reason for this?

Create, Delete, Create Event Handlers
Hi,

At the moment I create an onEnterFrame function to ease a movie clip into view. I then delete it. I want to be able to recreate a similar onEnterFrame function later to swoosh the movie clip out of view. At the moment weird things happen when I try and do the second onEnterFrame. Am I doing something illegal here?
I know I could put this all in the original onEnterFrame, but I don't wanna be wasting processor time doing an if statement every frame to work out if it's time to swoosh out the movieclip. Or should I not worry because that's negligible cpu time?

My Type Looks Bad...
All of my type seems to "fill in" and appear broken. The edges seems to get blurry, making it look awful. It does vary monitor to monitor, but I must be doing something wrong. My type is light gray on a black bkg.

How can I get small font type saved as a GIF to appear as sharp as it does on this site, i.e the menu at the top of the page, "Home,Book Reviews" etc and also at the bottom, "Terms of Use"?.
Ideally I want to use a font called "Bank Gothic LT" but cannot get the GIF to appear sharp in Flash. The text is about the same size as the text at the bottom of this page "Terms of Use" etc.
If I cant use this font then something similar to the font on this site would do.
