How Do I Make A Gradient That Fades To Transparent?
Flash 5
How do I make a gradient that fades from a solid color to a transparent state.
I think I've managed it before but have recently been stumbling over recreating it. Thanks

Gradient : How To Make It Transparent?
Oh My,
I need some help on the basics of making a symbol.
When you insert a symbol, and you make a Gradient. How do you make the end of the Gradient Transparent so the the layers below will be shown even if with the gradient Symbol is placed on top?

Gradient Fading To Transparent
Is it possible to make a circle with a gradient fill the fades from a color to transparent? I hope I've made this understandable. Thanx in advance.
Transparent Gradient Fading.
I know no question here is stupid, however I'm probably being an idiot as the solution could be staring me in the face and I just don't know it. But here is the problem....
I have seen a few websites using what appears to be a masking effect with a linear transparent gradient to make objects do a cross-fade in or out of the scene, with whatever backgrounds under them showing through as they are cross-faded away. No matter how hard I try, I cannot achieve that same effect and I'm about to go nuts trying to find any open-source examples of this for a week or two now. Please help.

Gradient Transparent Masking
hi there,
long time back again.
another queston here. can we make masking like transparent gradient? if possible pls tell me how.
thanx in advance.
Transparent Gradient Masks
ok, i think the time has come to talk about transparent gradient masks. it took adobe up until version 9 to have transparencies and mask transparencies in illustrator. i have been waited 4 years for Macromedia to come out with a transparent gradient mask. i don't think its happening anytime soon. does anyone know anything about this? i say we start a TRANSPARENT GRADIENT MASK IN FLASH ver 7 revolution!!! WHOSE WITH ME!!!
seriously, does anyone know anything about this? and macromedia should drop the whole bezier tool thing if it can't do it right. i can understand if it didn't get it right on Flash ver 5 (you have to start somewhere), but Flash MX??? come on! The way Flash MX is touted I should be able to predict the gender of my baby before i even know who the mother is!
other than that i think Flash MX is a wonderful program. as both a designer and a developer i can say that Flash MX actionscripting is way beyond. there are times i just imagine something and that functionality is already built in, or at the very least i have the tools to be able to create that functionality. but as a designer i have to admit that Flash is a little bit lacking.
p.s. can someone send this to macromedia? they won't let me through the gate and i think they know my face.
Gradient To Transparent, Can Flash Do This?
Is it possible to make an image (like in photoshop) gradient to transparent (the background) in Flash? Does Flash5 or MX offer this feature and how do I do it?
Even something as simple as a box that is a solid colour on one end but fades to trasparent on the other.
Thanks in advance.
Transparent Gradient In Flash 5
Ive been looking at www.newgrounds.com movies lately, and im seeing gradients with transparensy with them, but i cant figure out how to do it with flash 5. Does anyone know how? If so, plz post!!!
[F8] Transparent Gradient For Images?
Hi,
Basically I have a set of grouped images in a row, and want to fade them into black at the bottom. I have tried using the gradient tool and setting the top to Alpha 0% but can't seem to do it. I have also tried using mask layers but no luck there either.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Why Is This Gradient Fill Not Transparent?
I've got a shape with a gradient moving to white that is set to Alpha 0% but the white is showing? why is that? Can you create a gradient fill with 1 colour moving to transparent?
File attached.

Trying To Use A White-transparent Gradient In MX Mask
I am trying to mask something with a white-transparent PNG file that I imported into Flash.
I thought I had done this a long time ago with no problem. But now the transparency doesnt have any effect. It isnt masking in with a faded look.
Hmph.
Gradient Fills: From Solid To Transparent?
Can I in any way use a gradient fill that goes from a solid color to a transparent color, or set the alpha of a color of a gradient to '0%'?.
Thanks for helping me out.
Real Gradient/transparent Mask
back when still in an era of flash 5, i together with my friend, found a way to make the use of gradient in mask. we used some AS for sure.
but the problem is, i forgot how to do that, my friend is in malaysia and lost contact since then.
i've asked and searched this technique on the net and no one knows.
it's a long-lost technique i might say
so if anyone knows how to make a gradient mask that would be very helpful for other designer as well...
ps.: i saw it by my own eyes, gradient mask is exist. but it's made with AS
Is It Possible To Create A Transparent Gradient Within Flash
Im wondering how is this actually done. I have some old flash fla's which i must always access which have loads of different gradient combinations and so on. Quite often i need to be copy pasting these into new documents. Anyhow got me thinking how does one and is it possible to create say transparent gradients (example black to 0) simply within flash without say having to use illustartor etc..thank you!
Mask Gradient (fill BLACK ->TRANSPARENT)
A potentially obvious question, but thank you very much to anyone who can help here cos I can't find the solution!
I need a gradually revealing mask, not one that's either off or on. I don't mean gradually over time, I mean gradually left-right.
If there was nothing behind it then I could cheat this with just a coloured block in front of the object I want to mask, except that I'd need to fill this block with a gradient fill of black->transparent. Is there a way to even do this?
thanks again for your help,
Paul
Transparent (gradient Mask-like) Fills (like Smoke)
I have seen different flash sites use images that overlay on another image with soft see through edges, almost like a layer with a mask on it like in Photoshop. How can you do this in flash?
here is an example:
http://www.whoswe.com/cigar.html
how can you get the smoke to overlay the back images with smooth gradient fades like that? Say I wanted to have an image on a layer over another image. Can I have that image fade in some spots to reveal the image below it in Flash? Whenever I create a layer like this with a tranparent backround in Photoshop and export it as a transparent GIF, then import it into Flash, it makes a jagged edge and not a smooth fade, what gives!
Thanks for any insights,
Kyle
[Flash 8] Partially Transparent Gradient Masks
I've got a mask with a gradient fade that goes (alpha 0%)-(color 100%)-(alpha 0%).
When I overlay the mask, the mask plays as if it's a 100% solid object.
How can I make it so that the overlay effect only partially masks where the transparency exists?
Mc Fades In Uneven At 100 Alpha- It Blinks Not Fades
the word "communications" in the flash logo fades in, but it sort of bumps into full transparency right at the end. I'd like the fade-in to stay consistent. this was done in AS2.
http://www.olanbrewer.com/flashtest.html
here's the code for the last frame of the animation:
stop();
(comm_mc is the instance name)
comm_mc.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(this._alpha < 100){
this._alpha += 2;
trace(this._alpha);
}
}
the trace statement shows that the rate it's fading in is at @1.95/frame and not the 2. what's with that? I tried using Math.round to no avail.
ex:1.953125, 3.90625, 5.859375...
as soon as it crosses 100 it's popping full brightness.

How To Make A Gradient Background

How To Make Gradient Curve In AS3?
Hi,
Anyone knows how to make gradient curve?
I know that graphic.lineGradientStyle(...) is way for making shape gradient ''outline'', but I need to make gradient curve.
Here is on what I'm working: www.iva.desginstudio.com
After opening site, please click ''gammarus'' logo, and after that drag some of dots for better understanding problem...
Those curves which are connecting colored dots should be in gradient. Color of one dot ( from which line is starting) should be "starting" gradient color and other dot color ( dot on the end of line ) should be "ending" gradient color.
Thanks

Make A BG Gradient In A Flash File?
Hi all,
I officially know somewhere in the vicinity of diddly-squat about Flash.
I downloaded a poll script that is flash and php based. Works fine, looks mediocre.
You can see it in action here.
However, as you can see, the white BG is awful-looking on the site. Could someone please tell me how to basically blend in the BG so it's a gradient like the real site BG?
I DO have Flash MX 2004, and can work on this, but I don't have any knowledge of how to actually do it.
Or, if someone would be able to do this in a few seconds, I'd certainly appreciate that, too. The fla & swf file are zipped here.
Thanks a million!

Using Grayscale In A Mask To Make Alpha On A Gradient
Hey, i have a layer with a still picture of clouds, than another layer above it with some darkened clouds. I want to put a mask over the darkened clouds but that will slowly fade them in.. such as the mask being a white ---> black linear gradient. I know in adobe ps this is how the mask work.. not sure about flash. Please check me fla attatched
Trying To Make Sense Of AS2 Gradient Fill Matrices
This one will likely interest kglad, but I'm all ears for insight from
anyone who digs math.
I've been working with gradient fills lately in AS2, which means I've
been reading through related entries in the ActionScript 2.0 Language
Reference. Here's a quick example right out of the docs (slightly revised
to boil it down to the essentials). The Drawing API draws a square and
fills it with a linear gradient that goes from red (upper left) to blue
(lower right).
this.createEmptyMovieClip("gradient_mc",this.getNextHighestDepth());
with (gradient_mc) {
colors = [0xFF0000, 0x0000FF];
fillType = "linear";
alphas = [100, 100];
ratios = [0, 0xFF];
matrix = {matrixType:"box", x:100, y:100, w:200, h:200,
r:(45/180)*Math.PI};
beginGradientFill(fillType,colors,alphas,ratios,matrix);
moveTo(100,100);
lineTo(100,300);
lineTo(300,300);
lineTo(300,100);
lineTo(100,100);
endFill();
}
The point of interest, to me, is that generic Object instance, matrix,
with properies x, y, w, h, r, and matrixType. The x and y are for position
and correspond to the moveTo(100,100) call. The w and h represent width and
height. The r is rotation in radians. The matrixType is arbitrary (I
guess), because the same matrix can be used for a radial gradient -- never
mind that for now.
The properties shown, arbitrary or not, are the ones demonstrated in the
docs. That snippet does draw a 45deg red to blue gradient.
The docs recommend a slightly different approach for Flash Payer 8 and
higher; namely, the native Matrix class. Everything in the above sample
remains except that the existing matrix line changes to these two lines:
matrix = new Matrix();
matrix.createGradientBox(200, 200, (45/180)*Math.PI, 100, 100);
Pretty obvious to see where they overlap. The matrixType property is
gone, but hey ... everything works, so I'm not going to go looking for
trouble.
Here's the punch line. The docs *also* show an alternative Object
approach, one in which the properties describe a 3x3 matrix whose properties
are a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, and i. After toying with this a-through-i
example, I noticed a pattern in the values: c, f, and i are 0, 0, and 1
respectively. That seems to correspond to the conventional graphics matrix
...
a b u
c d v
tx ty w
... where u, v, and x are 0, 0, and 1. Seems fairly clear that tx and ty
would correspond to x and y. After tracing the properties of the matrix
variable (after the createGradientBox() call) it seemed reasonable to me to
make the following mapping:
a:a b:b c:0
d:c e:d f:0
g:tx g:ty i:1
... which led me to replace the original matrix declaration with this (back
to a single line):
matrix = {
a:0.086316745750311,
b:0.086316745750311,
c:0,
d:-0.086316745750311,
e:0.086316745750311,
f:0,
g:200,
h:200,
i:1
};
Those values, by the way, come from my tracing the properties of this
...
matrix.createGradientBox(200, 200, (45/180)*Math.PI, 100, 100);
The weird part is, that still gives a 45deg angled gradient, but it's
super-heavily banded. Not really a gradient at all, but more like four
colored stripes -- red, blue, red, blue -- from upper left to lower right.
Can anyone explain to me why?

How To Make Transparent .EPS's?
Normally when creating a logo, I make it using Photoshop since I am more comfortable with bitmap than vector. After I'm done in photoshop, I usually trace over the logo in Flash, create the font layers in Flash, and so on. Once I'm done, I export my vector logo from Flash as an .EPS. Now, my .EPS works fine, but I have a question:
This is how my vector logo looks when I export it from Flash. It has a solid white background.
This is how I want it to look - notice how the background of the .EPS is transparent.
How can I make the background of my .EPS in Flash transparent so when I export it from Flash and import it into Photoshop the background is transparent?
Thanks in advance
