Flash :: How To Direct A Popup

Can Anybody Help Direct Me With This Please?
The owner of my company asked me to add some store items to his wife's website, but I have a slight problem. (I am not a full blooded coder by the way, I was hired for graphic/print design, but I have built websites in flash before) Anyway, before I came here they turned to a design agency to build the website, and the way they coded this particular page, they made it so that you can only remove, and then replace the items. His wife just wants to add new items without removing anything. We got in contact with the old agency, and now they are asking for 425 dollars to rework this which I think is a bit overpriced. Maybe it's not, but I think they should have coded it this way in the first place.

Anyway, if anybody has any ideas or can direct me toward a way to fix this, I would be very grateful! Here is the original FLA file. Any feedback at all would be truly appreciated. I need to be able to add more items, or have fewer items dynamically and allow for variable dynamic content as apposed to having it static like it is now. Any ideas?

How Do I Re-direct?
Hey all, I have a password box and stuff and it works well with the If/Else scripting and stuff but I have a problem. I don't know how to re-direct it to the page I want it to after someone enters in the correct password. They enter it in, it says "Password Granted" and then it just has the button and the text. How do I re-direct?

Direct Download

Direct To Action.
HI,

I got a bit of problem with my website, Need someone to advise me.

Like most of the website did, i got intro on mine too, after intro end, I find my window a bit blank, because all my button is on the side, and the middle of window nothing. Can U picture it? What I'm need to do is before the intro end, Direct to contact.swf first. So that the end of intro i got contact info on my window, But Problem is, how to direct link a external movie.swf from the frame. The Reason I don use "LoadMovie" because if i click other button(launch other external.swf) I need unloadMovie. Is There anyway to do this.

ok i have a qustion, i'm gonna make this question as easy as possible
now i have a flash file, on it i have 5 boxes, 1 blue, 1 red, 1 yellow, 1 black, 1 green.... and i have an input box right under the boxes, next to the input box is a submit box(its not active this is wat i'm here for) now wat i want to do is type a color in the input box and click submit, when i submit i want to light highlight or maybe enlarge or whatever i just want the system to work, well i know its not exactly a system but how can i do that???

Now I also have 10 other www.blankcompany.com
I have it now when you go to one of them for example www.tapetechtools.com and it hits my logo page so when you hit the logo it takes you to www.tsigold.com.
Can I have it where when you type in for example www.tapetechtools.com it automaticly hits the logo page then re directs them to www.tsigold.com.

firstly thanx to all for a great forum - saved my skin many a time

I have a weird one here - i hope someone else has experienced this and can offer some insight...

I'm developing a video coaching programme based in-part on Jereon's flvPlayer.. (ain't it great!)

The flv clips in the app are 540x200 - so we expected some slow-down on old machines and thought we could encode another low-quality set if we really needed to...

During testing we found that flv playback (and general flash speed) was suffering on older macs (x.4 700Mhz, 640Mb RAM ish)...

We tried some Mac tricks like speedFreak (gives maximum system resources to foremost app), and tried mulitudes of different flv encodings (both kbps and fps) to try to get something watchable.. pretty much to no avail - the movies ended up looking very very compressed and still wouldn't play smoothly.

We turned off smoothing and deblocking...

We tried different browsers -Firefox was slightly more capable than Safari and old IE's were dismal... but none would do anything close to 'good enough'

We tried different swf embedding techniques from Adobe, Bobby VanderSomething, etc, and we tried direct object/embed without detection to be sure ... nothing was changing....

Then I started having problems with Bobby's UFO that i hadn't seen before when reloading the page.. (not related) But, it did cause me to try calling the swf directly in the browser...

i.e No embedding: http://this.com/this.swf

Suddenly everything was working sweet as a nut! I switched back to our original clips (On2 ~300kbps, 30fps) and turned deblocking back on. Blow me down - it's still running like a dream even on an old Mac clunker with other apps running.

We've not had any problems with flv playback speed on any Windows machines in testing.. only on basic spec iMacs

Can anyone please confirm that the actual embedding of flash movies in HTML somehow reduces available resources or something(!?) - when using a Mac of similar spec mentioned above.

Direct HitTest
i'm trying to use a code to preform a hitTest in flash

ActionScript Code:

this code works great and all, but it looks for the hitTest of the shape outline, not the actuall shape.

if anyone knows how to make the hitTest look for the actuall shape, please let me know.

Direct Connection To DB
I was just wondering if there is a way to directly connect a Flash program (web based or not) to a database without a scripting page such as PHP, JAVA, ASP... I don't think you can, but I would like to be totally sure there isn't a way. Thanks in advance for your help.

some time when i visit some site i find the Url changing when press any button and the page never change also the main flash movie is still in the page . in the same time you can reach that movie or that section by using the URL directly ..
for exampel :
the link in shown like this = "www.site.com/#contact" in this case it will show the Contact form Movie in the main movie
or "www.site.com/#start" in this it will show the frist main movie

what i think in this case when you hit the button it will Load an external SWF Movie to the main Movie and change the URL in sasme time .

Path Direct
I'm trying to create a floor plan thing, where by when you click on 1 of the button, it will direct you to the points you selected.

Lets say if I have point A-D, and between those points, some i might need to select whether I turn left of right. The idea I have now is at every point, I will check the var, whether it should go right or left or go straight. I tried to use onEnterframe but the MC keeps on looping nonestop. This is what I have now.test.fla

I'm using animations to draw the line to link from a point to another, but how could I use scripts to draw the lines so that in future I could add in more points with different distance.

And is it a good way to check the var point by point, cause if have have like hundreds of points, I may need to write like a lot of scripts here.

I was wondering... Is it possible for a user to go directly to a pop-up flash window with just having to enter the html/swf address in a browser's address box?

* then hit enter/go

Strange Re-direct
Hi

I am quite new to flash and actionscript. On my site www.louandelcats.co.uk I created a flash video. At the end of it it says "Click Here". I used actionscript to enable the user to click on it and to be taken to the relevant page which is www.louandelcats.co.uk/phpbb/index.php

The script I used was:

clickhere.onPress = function(){getURL("phpbb/index.php");}

But it takes me to a page:

and obviously cannot find it.

anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

PopUp Window Help - Toggle Control Between Popup And Stage?
How do you toggle control between a popup window and the main timeline?

I have a button that opens up a pop up window. The popup window is going to contain some text instructions. I would like to have the text instructions visible and allow the user to control a movie clip on the stage. Unfortunately, right now once the popup window appears, the user can no longer control the movie clip on the stage until they close the popup. I'm using MX 2004.

Here is the code I have on my button - this creates the popup window (I got this from some other postings):

Popup Window From Flash, Making Everything Load In Just 1 Popup
I have a simple thumbnail gallery in flash.
When a user clicks a thumbnail, I want a popup to appear. I got this far... now for my problem.

Without closing the window that has popped up, if you click another thumbnail, ANOTHER window pops up so I decided to keep the name of the windows the same to prevent this.

Now... when you click on the thumbnails, everything loads in just the one window without popping up a new window everytime you click a thumbnail but... the popup window stays minimized or "behind the main window".....

Usually you can right-click a link and choose "save as..".
I need the visitors on my flash-site to be able to download my video's like a regular file-download. If you right-click a link within flash, you don't get the opportunity to "save as..". How can I make this happen? Actionscripting?

Simple Preloader - Direct Me To It
I'm looking for a simple flash preloader to load 1 flash movie. I use Flash MX. Basically I want a preloader that will load in the first frame of the movie and then go where I want it to go when the Flash movie is loaded. Any other threads you suggest for this???

Loading A WAV File Direct
I'm aware that a movie with only a wav file playing can be loaded and played, but if I work with say a 10 minute song, the file saves at about 80-90MB, which slows down processes ALOT - even the basic placing, and exporting of the file... SO - what I'm wondering is if there is any way of loading a wav file DIRECTLY into a level for example: (and I haven't had the time to try this)

loadMovieNum("my_song.wav", 1);

Can it be done? Will I need a sound object? can it even be done with a sound object, because as far as I know, that needs to be part of a linked library - which WON'T help, because it means I still have to manipulate the wave file in flash... which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Could I possibly load it into a browser that the flash file is running in? Or a browser in the background?

Send A Direct Email?
Hey me again.

I am now trying to find out if it's possible to send a email directly to someone.

At the moment (on the click of a submit button) I have a "mailto:" action on a form I have made.
Here is the code:

This brings up the users Email browser, and they have to click the send button in their Email browser to send it. ( too much sending as far as I am concerned).
So I want to try and find out if there is a way to send the details ( they have entered in the form ) direct to the other person. ( without their email browser coming up).

Hi everyone. I'm trying to create a direct download link using Flash and am having some real trouble. What I mean by Direct Download Link is that I want the viewer to be able to click on a link and it starts the download process afterwards. Any help would be appreciated. Direct Script To Flash
My splash page opens and the flash movie on it works fine but when I click link to flash part of site I get a message that says I need flash player 5. I have flash player 7 on my computer (mac). You can link to the html part of the site without a problem. Below is the code I used:

Path Direct Problem
This is my code. It works fine in the root but I want it for specific reasons inside a MC. The MC instance is called Image_block

What happens now is that a maximum of 6 images is supposed to be loaded. the variable "aantal" (translation:amount) defines how many of these are to be loaded (I don't always need 6). Projectnummer(translation: project number) is the variable that differs between the project pages.

The flash file displayes only 1 image now.

Disable Direct Links To .SWF?
I'm wondering if there is nice nifty way for Flash to be able to detect whether or not it was embedded on a HTML page or not?

Basically, I am trying to keep my SWFs from being directly linked by other sites. That way they HAVE to link to my HTML page if they want access to my Flash content.

The only way I can see doing this would be through some sort of JavaScript function being called by Flash, and it would have to return some correct response. However, I am hoping there is a simplier method.

Problem With Re-direct In MX 2004
I have created a movie in MX 2004. At the end, I added a "getURL" action to an instance. When I run the swf file on my Mac, it works fine and goes to the web site. When my client runs it on their Windows machine, they get some kind of error message and do not get re-directed to the web site.

What gives...?

In ActionScript, I can access the FR symbol using the command:

Is there any way I could access "FR" symbol without having to tell explicitely its parent symbol?

I'm working on an interactive map and I'm reading data from an XML file. For exemple, if I read data corresponding to "FR" country, I would like to be able to access the symbol "FR" directly (e.g: to change its color).

I don't want to keep a list of all countries for each continent. I tried to export it using "Linkage" but I still cannot call the symbol using simply "FR".
