How To Make An Invisible Button, The RIGHT Way
To many people show me there .fla and i see buttons that are alpha down so its invisible, but thats wrong. Even in great Flashbooks they decribe how to alpha down butons so they become invisible, now I will tell you how to do it the way it was intended.

Just put your graphic on the HITstage and leave the others blank.
when you go back to _root the button indicate that its invisible by
its new workstage color, turquois.

How Do I Make A Button Invisible?
I have a series of buttons, Page1 Page2 Page3 Page4 etc.
When the movie is on Page1, I don't want the button for Page1 to be a button.

Because of the way I've designed the movie, I need to be able to make the button invisible through Actionscript.

I've tried something like the following:

if(_parent.currentButton == "page1")
{
1buttonMovie._visible = false;
}

currentButton is variable declared in the parent.

The above doesn't work.
I'm pulling may hair out because I can't figure out what's wrong.

Any suggestions?

ok.I have a bunch of buttons on the stage with load different variables/movies into Dynamic txt-fields and movies....
I would like to tell the buttons if it has not loaded a variable or movie to go invisible(...not clickable)...
It doesnt matter, if it only checks for the variable or only the movie...which ever one is easier..

Make Button Invisible Until End Of Flv
I am trying to create a flash file for flash player 6 and 7 that plays a flv video and when the video is finished you see, over the last frame of the video, 2 buttons. The buttons would be "replay video" or "go to url". Also how can I make them dissappear if the user wants to play the video again?

If you know of any tutorials or know of any examples, that would help as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want to learn how can I hide a layer.I mean I have a layer in fla and I want everything on that layer invisible in swf.I also want to control it with a button.

That is how I will use it;
In my cartoon there will be voice-over and also speech bubbles for the same lines.I want to user choose if he/she also want to see the bubbles or not.

Make Button Invisible When Flv Starts Again

Please, can some one help me and tell me how to have a button instance become invisible when the play button from the skin.swf file is clicked? There may be another way to acomplish what I am trying to do.

I have a Flash 8 file with a FLVPlayback component pointing to a FLV file. I am using an external skin for the controls. When the video is finished I have it displaying a button, but if the person wants to start the video again the button needs to become invisible again. I am assuming I need to create an actionscript that says if the video is playing (at all ) the button is invisible. But how?.. is the big question for me.

Any help would be great.

Button No Actions + Make Button Invisible
Hi all!
So right now I'm working on this website and realized I've been running into some button problems.

First one, why is it that every time I right click on the 'Actions' of the button it either just gives me the action of the current frame I'm in or it says the current selection cannot have any actions?

Secondly, I'm trying to work on a button so that when it is rollover, everything on the flash document is replaced. The problem I'm having is that some layers are on top of the rollover button in the main timeframe and so when the cursor is on the button, some layers are not replaced. How do I fix it so that when the button is rollovered the layers on top of it cannot be seen?

More specifically:
Main Timeframe -> 'Y' Button -> on it's Rollover it has a movie clip -> in the movie clip there is a modified 'X' button that is suppose to overlap the existing 'X' button in the main timeframe

How do I do it? I would really appreciate any help!!!

I have a "movieclip" on my timeline.
And within another "movieclip2" on the same timeline i have the script:

}

With the intent that you push one movieclip and it makes the other movieclip invsible.

But its not workking.

its pretty simple what im trying to do its just i havnt touched flash in a year so i forgot how and the lame tutorial doesnt explain it. ive used this before in my movies but im looking at em now and i cant remember for the life of me how to do it ><. the effect is to make an object (picture or text) motion tweed from being invisible or like 50% faded to being 100% showing. did they remove an effect tool bar in flash mx cuz i swear flash 5 had a bar for doing tints, color tweeks, and opacity on tweeded objects(buttons,movies,image etc)

Cant Make Pictures Invisible?
Hello!

I have a strange problem.
I use the loadClip function so load an .jpg file to my mc.

It's like a photogallery with thumbnails and a frame around the mc.
When I click a thumbnail I load the .jpg file, set the mc._alpha=0 and rescale the mc so that the jpg will fit.

Then I have a frame that starts resizing to the mc. WHEN the frame is finished resizing I set the alpha back to 100.

The problem is that this only works the first time when the jpg isnt loaded. Next time I press the thumbnail the pictures shows up directly, the frame rezises and then the picture (mc) moves into the frame.

How can that be?? Why can't I use the _alpha when the picture is loaded??

I Would Like To Make An Actual SWF Invisible For A Second....is That Even Possible?
When the HTML page opens up, I want the users to get a nice view of the background wallpaper.

I noticed how it feels much nicer to see the background wallpaper at a glance than to jump immediately into the swf file.

Is there a way to make a swf invisible while it loads (or partially invisible with a "now loading") or just make it invisible for 1 second before it just goes to a non-see through (normal) load screen?

Yo guys, I cant seem to make my buttons invisible...iam doing something wrong here but I dont know what!

Firstly..I have a button on one layer. and dynamic texts on another layer. Now...on the button layer I created a movieclip also where I wish to store code. The button name I gave for my button is gold, and the dynamic text is called gold1.

Now..what I want is somthing like this:

You have 10 gold available. It costs 5 gold to buy a new unit, now you are left with 5 gold and 1 unit...now...once you click again and you are left with no gold..I want that button called gold to be invisible until you have 5+ gold and then it would become visible again.

The code I have is.

I'm trying to make a droptarget invisible.

droptarget._visible = false

above method makes it not to work. so I made it's alpha to zero.
but this way you can see droptarget clearly when you use 16bit color graphics with jpg image behind it.

Can't Make Control Invisible
Perhaps a stupid newbie question, but here it is anyway:

I have a textbox and a combobox in my Flash movie. I'd like to show either the one or the other.

Now if I say cboXYZ.visible = false and trace that Flash tells me it is not visible.

If I say txtXYZ.visible = false and trace that immediately afterwards Flash tells me it is still visible. I can also see it displayed that way.

What could be the reason for such behaviour? Is it necessary somehow that when the movie stops with a stop() command that something needs to be defined in this regard (e.g. making both invisible)? By code or through a parameter at the controls?

ok, here we go:
i have made a map in FlashMX and the rivers, towns and borders are on single layers.
i´d like to have 3 checkboxes under the map so that you can choose "only show rivers / towns / borders" or a combination of all.
it is supposed be like the function you have in fMX but in the final movie (or document, however you want to call it).
i´ve visited a lot of tutorial sites but i haven´t found anything!
now i've come to this board and i really hope that somebody here can help me (or tell me a better solution)

I have a bunch of controls that need to be on the time line to be populated, but need to be invisible until they are needed.

I put all the comboBoxes in an _mc and set alpha to 0. Now everthing is transparent but the text fields in the combo box.

Is there anything to do that is less crude than moving it off the screen until needed and then moving it back.

At first, I was thinking that I would put each object on a separate layer and just turn the layer visibilty on and off (which is pretty eacy to do in HTML) but I couldn't even figure out how to do that in Flash. So if there's a way to have a button that will turn layer visibility or symbol visibilty on or off, please let me in on the secret.

Hi all! this is my first posting

I want to make a square that is covering a pair of buttons on a menu to become invisible to reveal the buttons behind it. I'm pretty sure there is an easier and more efficient way to go about this, but it's the most sure fire way in my head to pull the effect off given that it's been a while and I'm still getting my feet wet again. here is the code I've tried.

How To Make Layers Visible/invisible
We have a flash project, and it is related to some modifications of the text.
Unfortunately, I'm not working only for myself, I'm just a coder. Designer prepared all the staff, everything in MC as needed, but inside movieClips there are more than 10 layers, and sometimes not all of them needed to be shown.
Unfortunately, objects in that movieClips are just drawings.
Because, there are hundreds of that staff, is it possible to make the total layer invisible/visible programmatically?
("make everything mc" is not a solution :( )

The following example makes all objects in the first layer invisible:
fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().layers[0].visible = false;
but it is working only in mx version. Need something similar in as3 or at least as2.

the whole logic behind Flash is confusing me... but thats another story.

What I'm after right now, is :
Can you make an entire layer invisible? and I can put lotsa stuff on it and then make it show when a user clicks a button?

I've worked out how to make objects invisible/appear, but I cant do a layer.

Is it possible? or should I be doing this another way?

At fisrt, I created a whole new scene and sent the user to the new scene when clicking a button, but if I do that for every button in the menu, I think the .swf will be huge.

Disable Or Make Invisible..bottom Level ?
I have a movie that when a button is pressed, loads a second movie into an empty clip on the next level. Everything works fine but the buttons from the previous level are still active.

Is there a code that I can use to disable the entire root timeline until I unload the movie on level 1? Or can I disable my buttons and then re-enable them? If so how is this done?

I want 1.swf to be invisible so I made "loader" not visible
