i need to make a scrolling text column preferrably with the text that comes from an external txt file. I don't need the scrolling controls, just want it to loop forever. i couldn't find example in flash, but here is one in DHTML.

Fancy Scrolling Text Box - Flash? DHTML? JavaScript?
I have a client that wants to use an "introduction" to their web site that "scrolls text" from the bottom of a browser window upwards.

They want to scroll a whole HTML page of text this way.

They gave the example of the opening screen of the original "Star Wars". I guess most movie credits scroll upward this way.

They want the scroll to start automatically,
but they also want start, pause, back buttons - like a video tape machine.

I've found a bunch of Flash templates/tutorials that have a scroll bar on the right that the user has to move. I've found templates where there is no scroll bar - so the user has no control.

I found an old Flash movie from FlashKit - that has controls - but the scroll box is too tiny. I need a scroll box that is about 500x500.

I tried to enlarge the text boxes in Flash - but then the text font size gets huge. I know there is a way to make the font size independent of the text box . . . but I can't seem to remember how to do this.

Would you guys recommend I use Flash or do you think I'd be better off looking for a JavaScript or DHTML application for this?

Have you ever come across a template that does all of the tricks mentioned above?

Can't believe I've spent a whole evening and I still can't find what I need. I remember when the web was so small you'd be lucky to find one template - now there are 1,000s.

Flash To Mimic Power Point
I need a good Flash strategy for creating an ordinary PowerPoint presentation. We always need very media-rich presentations (PP is weak in this area). So far we have relied on embedding a Flash object in PP. This turned out to be a bad move because many of our clients deal with the Defense Department and are not allowed to D/L and install the latest Flash player. I have found that publishing a Flash movie projector (.exe) that advances slides like a PP is a good solution. The problem is that I have to put buttons on each slide and write unique functions to advance the slides I would like to be able to simpley click the mouse or use the arrow keys (like PP) for navigation. Should I use the "Flash Slides Presentation" template?

Fatal Error Of Modal Dialog In Flash? How To Mimic?
One thing I've noticed about Flash is that there doesn't appear to be any way to throw a fatal error in Actionscript. If I want my flash application to halt completely in a given situation, there's not really anything I can do to stop all code execution is there? Also, is there any sort of modal dialog (like an Alert() message in Javascript) in Flash? At the very least, it would be nice to stop everything and send the user a message they can't ignore when my code fails.

This is made more difficult by the fact that I'm trying to write some Actionscript class files -- they don't have any library items associated with them that I can depend on for user interface elements.

Any suggestions about how to STOP ALL CODE EXECUTION and send a MODAL DIALOG MESSAGE to the user would be *much* appreciated.

Using Flash Scrolling Text Box To Create Scrolling Schedule
Hi All,

For work, I'm creating a PowerPoint presentation which needs to include a really long schedule. I wanted this schedule to crawl up the screen. I thought of doing this part in Flash and inserting it into the PPT. Has anyone had luck with this sort of thing using PPT and Flash? Is there a better strategy. I have CS3 Web and Production and will be doing this portion of the project this weekend and thought I'd ask some pros. Is there another CS3 product that might be better. I am more Familiar with After Effects but haven't used it for anything quite like this before.

I'm developing a website and at the top there is a DHTML drop down menu, then at the bottom of the mneu I have a flash animation. But the problem is that when the menu displays the subsections, I can't see them because the flash animation is on top.

Is there any work around besides the fact of may be designing the drop down menu in Flash? I will like to use the DHTML version of this menu.

Dhtml & Flash
I don't know if this is the right place to be asking this, but thought I'd give it a shot. We have a client who wants dhtml drop-down menus on their home page and we have a Flash movie directly under where the menus need to drop. Problem is, the menus do not work over the Flash layer - they drop behind the Flash movie. Now, I am not a programmer, but the programmers I work with say it cannot be done. Anybody done this or have an example or workaround for this?

DHTML And Flash
I have a page that I am creating that uses a DHTML popup menu (created by Fireworks) for the navigation and has a flash "commercial" directly under it in another table. The problem is that when I roll over the menus the menus show up underneath the flash movie. This does not happen when I have a regular image in the "commercial" area only with the flash.

Do I need to solve this by using DHTML on the entire site and defining layer order or is there another way to solve this.

Any help would be appreciated

DHTML AND FLASH
Hi, i'm making a home work for my web class and im really confused about something...

I have a Dynamic HTML menu set up as an include file, but immidiatetly below it I placed a Flash movie.

Here is the problem...when I rollover the dhtml menu it opens down to show up the submenus but they GO underneath the flash movie....

I have tried everything from making different layers in dreamweaver to place my dhtml (include file) to making a send to back command in dreamweaver...

I just want my DHTML menu to open on top of the flash movie so the submenus arent interrupted by it...

I think this is something I cannt not unless i duplicate the menu in flash and make it a whole flash movie

DHTML And Flash
I have a site that I am working on and I am using a Flash file that Firestorm9527 created for me. The problem is that I would like to put the file in a table, and have the drop down menus come out side of the table. I read the tutorial on DHTML, but I didn't find much in the way of what I was looking for. Is there any way to make this happen? If you need the files, I can simply post them on my site (we aren't using them in the current site I am designing it for) and let you take a look. Anyway, any help people can give would be great.

Flash Or DHTML?
I'm working on a web project for a client. We are developing a website that is heavily dependent on search engines and "corporate" type clients. The website offers a service that larger corporations, universities, and other organizations would use. I am debating whether to use Flash or DHTML. Are there any disadvantages to using Flash for a website? Do search engines read it the same?

I would appreciate any advice. I am naturally leaning toward DHTML but my client prefers flash.

MPEG, DHTML, And Flash? Can It Be Done?
Hey everybody. I need some real help here. I'm working on a Kiosk and most of it (almost all of it) has been done in Flash without a problem. However, I'm now told that a video has to be included. I know that "good" video can't be imported into Flash, but I have an idea... i just dont know how to make it work.

If I have the Flash movie loaded in a fullscreen browser window, then I was thinking I could use DHTML Layers. I'd make one layer where the Flash movie would be on, and another where the video (and maybe play/stop controls) would be. The video layer would be behind or hidden for most of the time. Then I when I need the video to appear, I would make the layer visible (superimposed) ontop of the Flash movie... using some Actionscript with a button in Flash.

I'm not sure if this could be done, and I haven't had any luck. I really need some help. If anybody knows how to do this or any other way... please letme know.

Flash Covers Dhtml
Hi,

i've got an asp page with a dhtml menu include at the top, and a flash movie right below it.

the flash movie covers the dhtml menus entirely when they expand. does anyone know of a good resource that might help me solve this issue... i know its not specifically flash's fault, i'm just not aware of any good dhtml boards. is this just a lost cause?

i've tried putting the movie on its own layer, but because the menus are includes, i'm confused as to how the stacking is working.

Using DHTML Menus With Flash
Hi,

I have a problem. I am working on a website that has a DHTML navigation system and the main pages are in Flash. Now the problem is that the Flash is onto onto the top layer as a plugin and the DHTML menu items go behind the Flash plugin and are not visible. If I embed the Flash instead of using the plugin, it does not work on Netscape. Any idea how I can keep the DHTML menu items on top of the Flash Plugin?

DHTML Layer Over Flash?
Trying to get a drop down dhtml layer containing a flash movie to appear in front of flash content in an html page, like those floaty flash ads you see everywhere.

Never actually seen this technique appearing over another flash movie. Is it possible to have a layer appear over the top of flash?

Tried changing z order but does nothing, even if the background flash movie is put into a layer of it's own and moved down the z order below the drop down layer.

Flash And DHTML Layers For IE - HELP
Hello -

So, I've run into the common problem where DHTML dropdown menus fall behind a flash swf file sitting in the HTML.

I found the tutorial with the title above on flashkit and thought I was golden. Not so. Now the swf file doesn't show up at all on a PC in IE.

At first I pointed the javaScript to the swf in a different directory. That didn't work, so I put the swf in the same directory and used this code the tutorial shows:

Unfortunately, I don't have a PC at home, so I've been having my PC friend test it on his computer. But it totally works on my Mac in IE, Netscape and Safari.

Lastly, I'm using SSIs to import the DHTML for my dropdowns. They have a z-index of 20. The js file from the tutorial has the flash file with a zindex of 0. Could this have something to do with my problem?

a guy i work with put these together and although i've got a good basic knowledge of programming, his stuff is just beyond me and i'm looking for someone to help me understand his code and translate it to flash. i really want to learn from this.

he said that besides some code that's specific to dhtml the code he has can be translated almost verbatim into flash.

Flash And Layers (DHTML)
Not sure if this is the proper area for this posting but here goes.

I've been developing a site for a client and decided to use a flash navigation bar. To optimize the editability of the site I've decided to put my flash nav in a layer that causes dropdowns to appear over what ever is below, unfortunately depending on the resolution of your monitor, the navigation shifts position, is there a way to keep this from happening?

Just a quick question .. if I have a regular HTML page with the flash file embedded in it, can I use dhtml code to position an image on top of it? I have seen problems with flash and forms and z-indexes, but I don't know if placing a graphic with a <div> tag would fall under that category.

Flash & DHTML - Why Is SWF Always On Top? Can I Do Anything To Change It?
I have a website that has a live help section. It incorporates a "fly-thru" help button that users can click on to activate the live help. The page also has SWF files. The problem is that when the "fly-thru" button well, flies thru, it goes underneath the SWFs. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I would like to use a flash movie on an html page that is using a drop down dhtml menu, but the drop down menu hides behind the movie. I would like to try and avoid replecating the menu in the movie, because this will be the only flash element on the site.

How Do I Get Variables Into Flash From DHTML?
HI I am doing some development in active-x and we currently use java script to read data from the control and make a DHTML text boxes. Obviously they look nasty and I cannot find how to get data into flash without first writing it out to a text file which would be painful and slow. Is there any way to read in from either javascript, HTML(as thats what I am putting it into now) or talk via COM with an active-x object.
