Importing Files
I'm trying to load a .txt file into a movieclip. and while I can do this on the main stage, It won't work or load properly into the movie clip itself. I guess I need to find the right path but my rookie status is holding me back. any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Problem Importing Flash Files Or Captivate Files
I have Flash MX and am having problems importing Captivate files or flash files that I have exported from Captivate. When I import a flash file from Captivate it will fill in the keyframes but there is nothing on the stage. Everything is in the library but it kind of defeats the purpose for it to not be on the screen.
The other option is to export from Captivate to Flash; however, when I try to do that it tells me I need Flash MX 2004. I do...it's just not seeing it for some reason.
Anyone have any ideas?

FLASH - Flv Files & Importing External Files
Note: this is trying to be done all in Flash... please be patient as I have to explain it...
Here's the scenario... I am currently building a website for a coffee company, and as an introduction to their website, they want to play a short clip of 16 seconds, size 350x250 - fine... The real problem is that I have been asked to make it appear as if it was actual footage on TV - in effect, at super high quality with NO (and I mean, NO) Pixelation... very stringent, but they think I can somehow push the boundaries and work something out!! Also they wish for it to play as soon as the website begins (no chance of preloading!!) - without an option for the user to control the film (as in no play/stop/rew buttons, etc.)
In order to create this, I had to use Final Cut Pro - as this was the only program that passed the 'test' for what was asked... the client has a major issue with the 'fade' to black sections of the film - believing them to look as if they are shimmering (this also being the initial problem with building it directly in Flash). I passed this through all types of compression to achieve the smallest possible file (12MG) - and then from Quick Time Pro - I came up with an immaculate looking, but incredibly large flv file - using the export feature. Total... 82MB, yes MB...
Please note, I am fully aware of compression, but have to iterate this incredible request!!
Rather than attach it to the timeline in Flash, I placed the created FLV file in the same folder and requested on the first line of the timeline - through Actionscript - that it plays the FLV 'progressively'. To my understanding, this file should play whilst not having to load up before hand... (learnt of this from Macromedia website.)
I have seen this method used in a few tutorials, but admittedly the file sizes are approximately 5MB...
After uploading the file (took over an hour), I tested the film and it began to play extremely slow and choppy. After 16 seconds (the expected duration of the clip) the next scene in the timeline began !! The film had actually only progressed about 3 seconds into itself....
I don't think I am necessarily doing much wrong as it is the best solution that I could come up with in terms of keeping the final 'SWF' file to a minimum size so a user will not have to wait it to load up (got Flash files to 24MB - but still too long to load up!!!)
Can anyone think of an alternative method to playing an 82 MB file, or is this just plain ridiculous??
I am at a loss because I am still curious to see if this is actually feasible... if so then maybe you will help me push the boundaries of Internet viewing!!!

Hi,
I am back looking for the expert advise that I have come to expect here...I (finally) am doing some work for a paying client who is sending me files to import into the Flash5 presentation that she assigned to me...
---My question is: what format should she send the graphic files as?? She said they are vector Adobe Illustrator graphics, will they import correctly if they are from version 8 of Illustrator??
---I work on a PC and she is sending files created on a Mac, will this be an issue?
---I would like her to send the files in a format that I can break apart for animations...

Importing .swf Files
I feel like an idiot for asking this, but here goes; I am importing another .swf file into my movie using the load movie command. ( loadMovieNum ("spin2.swf", 1); )
now however, it appears in the centre of the screen. I want it to appear in the upper right hand corner.
How do i manipulate change the x and y values for this newly imported movie?

Importing WAV. Files - PLEASE HELP
When I try to import my WAV. file, this is what the error file says.... "This file type is not recognized. Would you like to try using another application to insert the file as an embedded object?....." I can import regular files such as jpeg, etc, but I can not import WAV. files. Why is this? Importing .AS Files
Can I use a .txt file extension to import actionscript? I've got a mac(OS X) & it seems to get the ".as" extension mixed-up with it's internal "AppleScript" (get it? "A" "S".).
Should the code be any different than how I would write it within an .fla?

Importing .swf Files
I am able to import .swf files onto the stage, however there seems to be nothing that allows me to tell Flash where to place them. It always places them partly off the viewing area, and if it is a large file or clip with hundreds of frames, it's pointless to try moving and aligning each symbol in each frame exactly.
How do you tell Flash where to place imported .swf files?

Again Importing Swf Files
Howdy buddies,
I have a developed a site, n now i want to put some animations (swf files) i've done outside the site... I confess i'm getting really tired of it, i've already imported it even to the library. I've put some codes guys told me here, just like:

loadMovie("banner_flash.swf" , "holder");

holder._y=500;
The file banner_flash is at the same folder my site is. I've created a new layer named banner scrolled to the frame i want to put the banner, inserted a keyframe thr n put the code above, at action script "expert mode" (flash mx). Surprise!!! No error messages, but no banner either. Well, well, well ma!! sometimes these things sucks...

Importing Avi Files
hey All,
I am working on a project that I need to import a welcome video provided by the client. I have both AVI and MOV. The mov does not import sound so I am using the AVI but the problem with it is that the quality is so bad you can hardly make out the images. Is there a way to get the same quality as just straight playing the avi or mov?

This is a hassle, it's impossible to line them up exactly the way thay are supposed to be.
In illustrator, the letters (again, they are artwork, not text) are completely grouped.
What am I missing here?

Importing CAD Dwg/dxf Files
I've always been able to import dwg/dwx files into Illustrator, edit out layers I dont need, export to swf, and import into Flash MX. I just got some new CAD files that wont open in Illustrator and am kinda stuck without a solution. Purchasing new software is no big deal I just want to be sure that it will open these new files and be able to export to Flash in a usable format.
If anyone has any help/direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Importing Swf Files
I rencently imported a old swf file that I had made a long time ago and now I am haveing a strange thing happen to it... When I play the swf file in flash player by itself it is fine but after I import it half way thru the movie the screen turns white for about 15 frames then goes back to normal but when I look at the frames in flash they are not white. They turn that way when i test, publish, or try to play the movie but they original file is not like that and i am very confused. HELP ME ANYONE

Importing Into Two Different SWF Files
Hello Everyone,
I have a two different movies (movie_a) and (movie_b) they both share or import the same .swf (movie_c) . I was wondering if it is possible to have a different action apply to movie_a then movie_b when importing movie_c?
Here is what I mean.
If movie_a imports movie_c then I want movie_c to to tell movie_a to do this action.

Importing Files
Hello,
I'm trying to import a 300 page catalog from word (I know ...uckkk) into flash. I lose all my complex formating when I copy and paste into flash. Is there a way to import the file somehow with out losing my formating. I can convert to PDF's, Jpgs, etc. but when I do it rasterizes the text and is no longer readable. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI- I'm trying to create a flip book that runs as a standalone application.
I'm using CS3 Creative Suite running on a G5.

Importing EPS Files
I feel dumb asking this, but everything I've read says Flash can import all kinds of EPS files, and whenever I try I get two error messages saying "import did not finish because unknown error occurred" and that Flash had "problems reading" the files.
What is the step that I'm missing?

Importing PSD Or PNG Files?
I've masked out the backgrounds around some photos (of people) in Photoshop, and I'm importing them into Flash CS3 (Mac). When I import them in, they appear to have a color shift...they look lighter, more washed out than they did in Photoshop. My color space in Photoshop is sRGB, and I've tried importing the images as PSD and as PNG files, but no difference.

Importing 2 .as Files
I am having a problem importing two .as files. i have my .fla file in a directory plus two .as files, one is called classA.as and the other is called classB.as. if i import either of these classes into the .fla file then everything is fine. if i import both classes on the same frame then i get the error message below:
"**Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=Layer 1, frame=1:Line 4: The class 'ClassB.as' cannot be imported because its leaf name is already being resolved to imported class 'ClassA.as'.

before i restructured my code i had the part to do with ClassA on one frame and the part to do with ClassB on another frame and this worked fine. so why can i not have all my code on one frame and import both classes at once?

Importing Several .swf Files
Hello Everyone,
I am pretty new to action scripting and I am having trouble getting a files to play in sequence upon linking. This is what I have figured out up to this point.
1. I have created one main folder and loaded the rendered .swf files for the presentation.
2. I opened flash and used the loadmovienum code to link the external files and if the canvas is the same size of the code it will play.
The problem is at this point if I use the same code with multiple files they will overlap and play at one. Also is there a way to get them to play at differenent canvas sizes within the same flash file? I would greatly appreciate any help that could be provided.

Importing .as Files
Hello,
I'm building an educational package with two games, and this may seem like a silly question, but I'm stuck as to how to get past the errors as described below.
In the games section of the fla, there are two buttons, depending on which button they click they're either taken to the wordsearch game scene or pairs game scene.
I'll try to explain the best I can:
Games.as - This is the file where the other two should be imported, but I'm guessing it's wrong somehow as it's not working

First of all can download a soundloop from this site and use it in Swish then can I import that word animation in Flash 5 . After I am finnish fine tuning can I export that file to dreamweaver. Also would still be able to access animation that I created in Swish that I have exported to dreamweaver after the 15 day trail period is up . (am i making any sense)

I am using Flash 5. I need to why this code doesn't load my text file into my movie clip. I have put the code on the movie clip layer on scene 1. The movie clip is a text scroll. It isn't for the net. It is a promo cd. Does there need to be more code?

Animation Importing Wmf Files
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie. I have only used text effects with 3rd party software.
A client has asked that I animate a character. He wants if someone to click on a link like, "about us", for the character to say a little something about themselve. (The client sells a doll that he wants animated)
I have a friend who develops webpages also and I used Crazy Talk software on his box to create some small window file movies with the doll talking. I can then import them into Flash MX. But thats all I know how to do. I do not know how to set up an interface with links and have the different animations to be called up by pressing links.
Is their a tutorial on here similar to this or can someone help. I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance,
