Getting Started With 3D In Flash
I posted this question a couple days ago, but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere.

I want to get started creating some 3d flash sites. I've heard about some of the programs being used: Adobe dimensions, lightwave, 3d studio max, maya. But I don't really know how these products compare in features, power, price, etc. If I'm going to do this, I want to do it right, you know? So I guess if somebody could give me some pointers in getting off in the right direction in creating 3d flash sites, I'd be really grateful.

Also, I don't really know how 3d flash is done. do you have to render scenes in the 3d modeling program, and then just import them as frames into your flash movie? seems like this would lend itself to creating pretty huge flash scenes.

Getting Started In Flash : Please Help :

I am building a web site in flash and inserting the movie into dreamweaver. The flash file so far is 350kb. The flash movie has about 15 scenes, each scene represents a liked page from the main page. Can someone tell me if the way I am building this flash site is the right way? Is 350Kb too big of a file? Is there a more efficient way of creating flash sites and keeping them small? Please help.

I have just started using flash mx and i am wondering why it just wont work to do a functioning popup window link in flash. this is the one i tried from here:

Hello:

I'm interested in getting started again with Flash. I have tinkered with it off and on for several years but now I think I have time to learn a bit more about it.

This is probably a very broad question but: where is a good place to start?

My main interests are practical Flash animations to enhance websites - navigations and banners, etc - , using Flash for music videos, and perhaps tradeshow displays.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Also, I just downloaded the "Preloader" tutorial but the file is a .FLV - how to I watch it on my computer? It will not open..

Getting Started With Flash
I really want to learn flash, but would like some advice on where to begin.

What software do you recommend in the less than $100 price range? I use several Adobe products (Photoshop, GoLive, InDesign) but am not ready to invest several hundred dollars until I have an idea of what I'm doing and what software I really want. Are there any "lite" versions, like Photoshop Elements, but for flash?

Is text in flash included in search engine results? I'm guessing that it's not, but want to know for sure. For example, if I created a book or catalog with pages that could be turned by the mouse using flash, would the text within that be crawled by search engines?

What's the best way to start learning? I really haven't a clue about flash or how it works or what projects I would use it for. I'm a total newbie.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!

I have been given an assignment to design a page for my church. To be more user friendly I wanted to have to seperate home pages (one for Flash and one for HTML). I am using Dreamweaver for the HTML aspect of the site. Are there guidelines and or tutorials to help get me started? I pretty much know the type of content I want to have for flash, I just need some assistance having it implemented.

I'd like to know if there are any resources out there that may help me with creating a flash layout. basically a tutorial of sorts, i think the thing that i would mainly be concerned about is having the navigation work how i would like it to (the transition/animation from one page to the other) i see many tutorials and resources on individual techniques but i was looking for something that encompasses the whole aspect of a layout.

Where To Get Started? Flash Game
I haven't built a flash game before, but heres my idea, and any ideas on where to start would help.

The game would be a pretty simple side-scroller where you move your character through the game while holding on to a box. You have to have the box to complete each level, and there would be obstacles and things that could knock the box away from your character.

Hi all... I'm new to flash.

I'm working on a project, and we have lots of data that will be passing into and out of flash. It seems there are quite a few options out there as far as how you can do this (loadvars, remoting, etc.)

Can anyone provide a summary of the options, and maybe some guidelines when choosing a route? I don't have a whole lot of time to get this done, so it's important that I get going in the right direction up front.

We'll primarily be interacting with a sql database and using asp.net 2.0 & flash 8.

I have been rumaging around and playing with eclipse, which isnot so intuitive but im sure very powerful.
I am looking for a tutorial on doing a small hello world or similar first time application. Eclipse doesn't have a stage so im thinking it is solely for deving the classes for a stage based "base" application. So it needs to be used alongside the flash IDE ?

Getting Started With Flash Lite 1.1
I am new to mobile development... am I in the right forum for asking about Flash Lite?

I need to build the following which will run both on a web page and on a iRiver Clix.

It's a simple virtual book has controls to turn pages. Each page has one Unicode Rich Text sentence. On page turn a single flash animated pic, MP3 file and a video play in a loop.

Can I do that using my Macromedia Flash MX v 6.0? Or do I have to bump up to v 8.0? (I don't have the funds now to upgrade.)

How do I know what maps to the page turn buttons to physical buttons on the Clix (since there is no mouse)? Is there a SDK or CDK that gives guidance?

Will this same Flash app run on a nokia equipped with Flash Lite 1.1

The name's Dip, Dip lomat. I've been a web designer/php programmer for almost 1 year now and I've pretty much gotten to be at an advanced level in both fields so now it's time to expand my portfolio/resume (http://www.freewebs.com/stk15/resume.txt) with Flash animations.

I have a client who wants to put a flash slideshow in a website that she wants me to build for her. So I am starting to look into how to develop Flash files (movies? scripts?).

My question is what kind of tools are required to develop in Flash? Are there any third-party tools available, or do you have to buy the Flash MX that I saw on the macromedia website for $500? I'm assuming that you can't just open up a text editor and start banging out flash code (like I do for HTML).

Any info would be appreciated.

Very Odd Problems With Flash Site - They Just Started

I am starting have some very odd problems with a flash website i made. The first problem is this:

in the guestbook - when i look at the entries, it has suddenly started to show it so that all the entry text remains on one line instead of going underneath itself, so that only a small part of the message can be read. ( I have not uploaded any new files for this - it just started appearing this way recently)

My second problem is the gigs page, sometimes i see a new version which i sent in recently the newest date being january and sometimes i see a very old page that I should not be seeing at all.

Third problem is on the downloads page - I should see a page with downloads and two of the downloads should say (opens in new window) I sometimes see this page and other times i see the old page where the two entries that have "opens in new window" don't show.

This is very odd. Other people are reporting the same things.

Can you suggest what might be happening?

Just Started XML And Flash (Quick Question)

I had a quick question about some basic code that I wrote. I declared my XML object and loaded the XML object in. I created a separate function called getQuote that assigns the value of some XML values into some text fields. When I put the getQuote function in the xmldoc.onLoad function it works great. But when I put it separate like below, it doesn't work. Hopefully you guys can shed some light onto this. Thanks everyone.

[MX04] How/Where To Get Started Reading Php/sql Db Into Flash
Basically I want to just test the waters, and show a video (avi) in flash, after reading from a sql database.

I do know PHP, and I know SQL, I'm familiar with connecting, reading and writing to a sql database with php, but I don't know much about flash. Where would I get started that would inform me how via tutorial? Any good books out there? Online stuff?

Getting Started With Flash - Software Advice Please

I'm pretty new to this, so please forgive me if I am asking stupid questions.

I'm beginning a new job as a teacher. I'm very used to writing presentations on my Mac in Keynote and Powerpoint but I want to write some with a much greater level of interactivity for my soon to be students.

The second page has animations and also an interactive drag and drop questions bit.

I was thinking about learning Flash in order to do this but, to be honest, splashing out nearly £600 for Adobe's CS3 is a bit much.

I was wondering if any of you very experienced people out there could help me. If you wanted to write presentations which could give this type of interactivity, is there an alternative to CS3 which is a bit cheaper?

I feel a bit cheap asking this question now!

Help Getting Started With Flash Media Server & AS 3.0
Hello,

I have just purchased a copy of Flash Media Server 2.0 and Flash CS3. I want to build a flash app that records a web cam video on the client, saves and uploads the file to my web server, and streams the video out on the web server.

Can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to do this? I'd also like to see a simple example of a video chat app. I haven't found anything good using FMS 2.0 and AS 3.0.

Also, if you can give me a high level outline of the steps to do this it'd be a great start. Here is a quick start from what I know off the top of my head.

1) create a fla for the client to record web cam video. What objects do I use?
2) create a mechanism to save the recorded video to a FLV on the client?
3) uppload to the server using some upload component (i dont need help on this)
4) Open the file on the web server and stream it out (how do i do this?)

Getting Started With Flash In Browser Extension
I am new to Flash but I am not creating a web page with Flash. Instead I have a browser extension in which I want to run a Flash animation when the end user clicks on some control, perhaps a toolbar button or a regular button. Therefore I am writing code ( C++ in my case ) in my browser extension and want to understand how I can play a Flash animation when the user reacts with my extension. How To Get Started With Obj Oriented AS3? (Flash Help Seems Broken)
OK I dont want to be the noob that doesn't read the manual and asks stupid questions, but I'm stuck here. It's been a LONG time since I had any real flash experience (Flash 5 in depth and a little Flash 8). But now my job has lead me back into some flash work & I'm basically starting from scratch. I'm trying to just get a simple SWF to load an external class & have the class retrun a value from a method.

Want To Get Started With Flash - What Developer Should I Pick?
I'm pretty fluent with HTML and CSS, and I know a little JavaScript, but I really want to add some dynamic content to the websites I make, and Flash seems to be showing up more and more all over the internet.

So - should I buy Adobe Flash 8 (for $399 ::cringe:: ) or are there other, cheaper, just as effective alternatives?

I'm almost entirely clueless about Flash. Most of what I know I learned in the last several hours. I know that Adobe Flash Basic 8 costs $399, which seems like a lot. Yesterday I would have guessed that there were a plethora of different flash developers, and that they all retailed for about $100. I found some other program called Swish Max, and I downloaded the trial of that because that one does cost $100, which is much more affordable.

So again, how much of a difference is there among the potential flash development programs? Which ones are the best and/or cheapest?

I Started Exporting To Flash 8 Instead Of Flash 6 And My Loader Quit Working
I am using a loader component which I named tstone. I was setting the ContentPath to a variable on the first frame of the timeline containing this component by using:

tstone30.ContentPath=_root.page3_tphoto30;

However, I decided I wanted to take advantage of the justify feature for my dynamic text fields and began exporting to Flash 8 instead of Flash 6. For some reason, my loader quit pulling the images into the loader. If I switch back to Flash 6 it works again. Any ideas cause this is driving me crazy?

How are you guys? I'm a big photoshop head an never experienced FLASH at all. I like love campability of this application. I was lokking to see on what angle should i come with this program cause its so much you can do with this application i don't know where to start. Help Gettings Started With Flash Media Server 2.0 And The Camera Class

I just purchased flash media server 2.0 and flash CS3. Id like to build an app that allows a user to record a video using their webcam and upload it to the server, and in turn stream / display the video on the web server.

So far this is where I'm at. I installed FMS and created a FLA that opens the users web cam and displays the video. The code is pretty basic:

From here, how do I save the video as a FLV and upload it to the server? I am used to using FFMPEG - will I need this or should I use the new Flash Encoder?

I am running FMS on IIS 7.0 on the same box as my ASP.NET and IIS web server. Will I need to do any tricky configuration with IIS to allow them to run in parallel?

Also, when i open the "FMS2_Console" and try to connect I get an error. The login screen has a box for the "Server Address" and username/password. In the server field I'm typing "Localhost". It won't let me connect, even though I have the right username and pwd. Is somehting wrong?

Text Animating And Zoom Animating
Hey im a beginner at animating and i need advise on how to animate text. Like when the viewer is watching my movie I don't want a whole paragraph to come out of no where I want it like word by word or letter by letter like someone was typing it right then and there. I tried figuring out a way but the only thing was adding a key frame for each individual letter. any tips? and also any advise on how to make the text come in with flare? like fading in or coming in from the top?

Also another thing. Let's say I make a city from far away on the stage. I want to zoom in on a person (a stick figure) for a couple seconds and then zoom back out to it's original position. Is there a way I can do this without having to disassemble the city and make the person zoomed in and then make it look zoomed out construct the city from scratch again?

Animating Without Using Flash IDE
I'm developing my application using the ActionScript 3 compiler from Adobe and FlashDevelop. I need to animate a sequence of bitmap images, but all the tutorials I've seen on the web that deal with animating bitmap images use the Flash IDE. I was able to create an animation by changing the child container of a sprite based on a timer trigger; this works, but I'm sure there is a better way to do this. Can anyone point me to how I can perform animation without having to use the Flash IDE?

I have done an animation in Flash MX and it has a file size of 197 KB.

I was testing it on my machine and it seems to run fine but I tested in on another machine and it seems to run really slow. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the processor speed and whether I can do anything to fix it to run like normal on other computers.

I have done everything to optimize the flash. Compressing file sizes before, during and after flash.

Animating In Flash

Im trying to do some plain animation in Flash CS3,

I want a button to play an animation and when done go to the next frame, which holds a new set of buttons and animation, but when I type the gotoAndPlay command, it goes to the right frame but it doesnt play the animation. Does anyone know what Im doing wrong?

Animating With Flash
Flashers:
Okay so most of us know how to make a ball move from one side of the screen to the other whether it is by using the timeline or with AS.

What I want to learn is how to animate little cartoons or flying paper or something crazy more then just average movement on a button or changing lighting.

So my question is:
Are flash animators using the timeline when doing crazy animations?

Or are they creating instances (outside of flash, in PS or ILLus) of the animation then placing them on individual frames?

Or making them inside of the flash development and placing them on individual frames?

I want to attempt some goods but no luck finding any good resources and dont know the best methods.

Any resources please hit me with them I will eat them all up.
