Lagging For No Reason

Hey freinds.

So whats happening, is I have a pretty complex range of items appearing on (for arguments sake) frame 2, from a bunch of arrays.

And this works perfectly fine. Not a scrap of lag.

Ive made a control to delete all the items on the screen and re-load the data/arrays, effectively creating more objects.

My problem is, the second, third... time you do this, it lags to almost half speed. But the frame is completely emptied before it comes back to it.

Is there anything im overlooking? Does flash keep some kind of hidden information somewhere that I can clear up or something?

ill include a example if nessisary

thanks for reading

Lagging?
desperate cry for help>

www.axiomflash.com

when you click a button to go a new section the 3d arrows animate over the content and erase it. the erasing is done by masking part of the bg over the content and then unloading it. if i run the arrows and the mask in an swf by themself it runs at fullspeed, but when it is ontop of the rest of the movie it lags when the arrows get big.

any reason out of the norm why this may be happening?
what could i do to fix the lag issue? i have already minimized the number of edges and colors and made sure that no other animations were running simotaneously

Bad Lagging
My movies (30fps) for some reason have started lagging when i view them in web browsers
the run fine when i open the swf and viewing in flash but when i publish into a html file it lags alot

my pc specs are amd 2600 512mb pc3200 ram 256mb graphics card

heres a link mind you this is just testing to see if it lags no where near finished
could you tell me if it lags for you

Cheers

Lagging Swf
what's up guys,
i've been away for a vacation and just returned. hope everyone is well.
i also have a question:
i have a swf that works beautifully in my flash player, but when published into an html file it seems to lag. i don't have any onEnterFrame's or setIntervals that are not properly terminated. anyone have any thoughts? one last thing, does anyone know if publishing a swf to detect a user's flash version should include some flash generated javascript? if not, what is a good way to approach detecting a user's flash version (mac and pc) and linking to an alternate html file?

thanks,

[fmx] No More Lagging? Ever?
Ok, I'm woking on a game and I'm having lagging issues, but I think I had an idea (not sure, lol).

I know alot of people have FPS counters i ntheir games to keep track of how fast it is running. Well, if you can see what the FPS is, why cant you alter the speed variables based on the difference between the actual FPS and the desired FPS.

For example The game's FPS is 30 and a guy's speed var is 6. If the fps drops down to 20 for some reason, it would see the change and bump the speed variable up to 8 (a third of the fps = a third extra speed)

Is this possible? Would the frame counter make its own lag that would defeat the purpous? Any one have any ideas?

Lagging After Use
Hey! I have built a full flash website but I am having a problem with speed. It all runs smoothly at first, but after you visit a few different sections the site starts to lag a little and eventually slows right down. My site loads fully at the start (I know people will argue against this, but I have my reasons to make it this way) - Could that be what is causing my problems though? Please give me any ideas you can! Thanks!

Lagging Behind Cursor
I am making a cursor. I want it to follow the mouse slightly behind it. Here is an example of what i want to do.

Lagging Actionscript... ?
The little applet I'm developping is lagging like hell and I was wondering what could be the source.

Its functions are simple :

Load 4 variables from a querystring through LoadVariables() method.

Duplicate a small movie clip that will be used as a bullet

Set the coordinates of the new bullet using the variables's values.

It do works. But I must wait like 10 sec to see the bullet appear, if I happen to reload with new variables it takes 30 sec and the third time its completely frozen.

here the snippet of the problematic code :

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loadVariables("CarteContenu.asp", this);
}

onClipEvent (load) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}

onClipEvent (data) {
this.bullet.duplicateMovieClip("bullet2", 20);
this.bullet2._x = this.AdresseX2;
this.bullet2._y = this.AdresseY2;
}

Preloading Lagging......
I know this has been posted a million times, but I have gone through all of them and as far as I know.....there is no reason for it...

There is nothing that is loading on the first frame except for one word.....

But the preloader comes in at 40%

Dont know why....

Can post FLA if needed....

but its a mess

Flash Is Lagging
I bought a new laptop and installed an older version of flash(flash4).
It is lagging big time.
ie. If I create simple instances on the stage, hold "shift" on the keyboard and begin selecting
each image, I can only select 2 or 3 before flash starts lagging. It completely stops selecting images
it's moving so slow.
Why is flash lagging??

Help With Lagging Problem.
My flash seems to be fine when testing it normally in program but the moment I test it in a browser it lags out of sincronisation with the music which ruins things like lip motion and animation to an extent it's ruining hours of work I've put into the animation. I've tried deleteing things and slowing tweening but it makes little to no help to the lag. At this rate my flash show will be ruined before it actually works. Is there any advice of how I can get rid of the lag without messing up my week's work? :/

Scrollbar Lagging
Is there a way to lessen the lag of my scrolled text (inside a scrollpane)
the text is about 9 pages long (size 12, verdana) It's all placed on one static text.

Everytime I scroll up and down, it lags..

Lagging Game
my game lags about arround 90 kills
www.ownagestudios.com/stickmanwars.php

i cant fix it attach movie clip does not work for me because whenever i program on the frame the collision detection lags.

Music Is Lagging
Currently I have a song that last 1000 frames and I adjusted the flash movie around that length. When I load the movie from my console the music plays fine, but when I publish it and ftp it to the server it is completely behind and finishes before the movie is done. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Performence Lagging
Hey guys.
Well i was just wondering if ne one new how to get the best performence out of a flash 8 project.
Coz Im using nothing but pure vector gracphics i draw everything i need in my flash project in flash its self and i have the framerate set at 24fps and say i have a few animations playing and something else with a bit more effect on it plays it lags a bit like the framerate drops or something untill the animation finishes.

So yeah does neone know what could be causing this, im not using ne of the filters besides the alpha settings and i doubt its my computer coz here are my specs.

Pentium 4 2.80ghz
1gig of ram
win xp home
64mb grpahics card

so i highlly doubt its my computer and no i dont have ne other process's running in the background.

it lags with both exe and swf and ive fiddled with the publish settings but not really gotten ne where so help would be appreiciated.

Thanks for reading hope someone knows why this happens.

P.s its quite a big fla im working on its around the 20mb area this is a large project sim im making and i need to get the best smoothest performence out of it i can.

thanks again

My Tweens Are Lagging
Hi everyone,

My tweens are lagging! Not right away....after about 5 minutes they start to slow down and after a couple of minutes, it really gets noticable.

I have a mask made up of approx. 20 little circles which grow over 0.6 seconds, making a nice mask transition. The mask is assigned to four seperate movieclips on the stage.

I have a timer, so every 5 seconds, a new image is loaded into each of the four movieclips with the masks, and the masks tweens are executed. So that's 80 tweens which fire off at once.

Instead of creating a new tween for each little circle every single time, I have created the initial set of required tweens, and I reuse them by stopping and rewinding them.

I thought this might be something to do with the images cluttering up my swf when I add them in each time. So I have set my code up to remove the last image added just after I add the new one.

Why is my movie lagging? Yes, 80 tweens is a lot...but I only ever create 80 tweens one single time and reuse them. For the first while, the swf handles everything just fine...it isn't until 5 minutes or so when things start slowing down. Please take a look at this code, and tell me if I am missing anything...

Help With Frames Lagging
Hi,

First I want to start off with Thanking everyone who helps out. It means a lot to me!!

Second, here is my issue.

I am creating a training course in flash. I have 9 different .fla files ( the reason for this is because if it was all put in one, then the file size would be too big for any computer to handle), which go in this order:

Intro - just a brief intro for the course
Section 1 - Each section consists of a different topic that has streaming audio for the narrator. At the end of the topic (each about 15 - 20 mins long) there is a short pre-test that consists of 4-5 questions. Each section at the end of the pre-test has a button that links it to the next section which is a different .fla file.
Section 2
Section3
Section4
Section 5
Section6
Section 7
Final - 20 multiple choice questions related to the above topics.

Now, the problem: When I start viewing any file in Mozilla or IE the first one runs through the topics and narration fine, then the test works fine but then once you click the button to bring you to the next section (which is a new .fla file) the frames seem to stand still while the narration just keeps on talking. Then once the narration is finished and the flash file itself keeps running until it is at the ending, the pre-test comes up, and the pre-test will not work. It does not matter which multiple choice answer you pick, it will not advance to the next question.

When you run each of the publish .fla's themselves, they working flawlessly, how ever altogether they do not work so well!

Any ideas?? Thanks again in advance!!

No Tweening, But Still Lagging
Just when I think I've got a good understanding of Flash, I come across something that I never would have thought about before. I was always told that if I animate everything through actionscript, it will run much more smoothly than if I used tweening. Now I animate everything through actionscript, but I'm still having problems with my apps lagging. Would it have to do with the stage being 1366x768? I know that's an unusually large size for flash to push out. I work on a very good/fast mac, so I don't think it has to do with the computer I'm running it on. I read something recently about conserving CPU usage by calling upon scripts only when needed. I didn't know I could even be executing a script when I didn't need it. Is there something I'm completely missing here?

Lagging Animation
I created a simple animation to play whenever the user clicks on a link. Unfortunately, there is a huge lag when viewed on a mac. What gives? I've never had problems with my animations on any platform before and my file size is only 124KB. I tried it as a simple motion tween and using guides with no difference. Is there something I'm missing? Is this a common problem?

Thanks for any and all help

Lagging Framerate...
I have an issue where I have a masked movie clip containing a large static text box. The movie clip containing the text box moves up and down to simulate scrolling behind the mask.

The thing works great for the top half of the scrollbar, but when it hits the bottom half, the framerate starts to lag. I'm not sure why. It is a large sized movieclip that is being moved around, but I would think if that was a problem, it wouldn't work at all, not just one half. What do you guys think? Is it just because the numbers that calculate its position are getting bigger, making the math more complicated? Anyone know of a better way to do this? Something more efficient?

The .fla is attached, but the lagging is not as noticeable in the flash player. It's more notieceable when the page is opened in its parent file. This can be seen at
www.mentalfabrications.com/test if you go to the "resume" section.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Lagging On Tweening..
I have a project nearly done and I've run into a lag issue that I at first thought was due to something else, but I have realized is caused by the background bitmap slowing everything down during tweening.
Here is the site so you can see what I am talking about. It is worst on the "Tickets" and "About us" sections.
Is there a way to fix this..?

Preloaders Lagging?
I'm having an issue with preloaders (custom, downloaded, and built in components) starting up promptly and showing accurate download percentages. Seems as if there is a few second delay before the loaders pop up, and the loader won't display percentages until it reaches the 30s or even as late as the 60s percentile range.

Anyone take a stab at this? The website that I'm making is a very simple flash website for my photography. 5 sections, each loaded externally.

Lagging Flash
Is there anyway to make this scroller less laggy? The swf has a framerate of 61 and here's the exemple:

http://www.riksknas.com/Fabian/fabian_b_R4.html

and the scroller code:

ActionScript Code:
panel.onRollOver = panelOver;function panelOver() {    this.onEnterFrame = scrollPanel;    delete this.onRollOver;}function scrollPanel() {    if (_xmouse<b.xMin || _xmouse>b.xMax || _ymouse<b.yMin || _ymouse>b.yMax) {        this.onRollOver = panelOver;        delete this.onEnterFrame;    }    if (panel._x>=+985) {        panel._x = +985;    }    if (panel._x<=-12840) {        panel._x = -12840;    }    var xdist = _xmouse-1500;    panel._x += Math.round(-xdist/60);}
would appriciate any kind of help. Thanks on forehand!

Lagging Chat..
I am creating a chat, and it works mint with one person in it. However it lags when two people get on. Is there anything I should be doing to make it work for more than one person? I have seen something about sockets or something, and have never heard of these, but maybe they will help. Any ideas how I could make it so it works with more than one?

Here is how I am doing my chat..(Php/Mysql/Flash)

Whenever you enter, there is nothing on the chat.

You start a loop, and with that loop I load check.php. This checks to see if a new message has been posted. Whenever you push the send button, a variable will be changed to true, that's how it checks. Well, if it is set as true then it loads a file called new.php. This new.php reads the last line of mysql database and returns it.

Very simple actually, but it gets really lagged and stuff whenever a new user gets on(meaning two people on the chat)

Do you know, or know any resources, that would tell me how I can make a chat speed up with more than one person. Or some way of handling more than one user with live updates and stuff?

Edit: You can view it here: http://www.chaseschwalbach.com/chat/ It is still buggy, like you may have to push enter twice to make the login work and stuff, but the chat is fine unless there are more than one person. The design was made by dsi.lord, and I did all programming

Lagging In Game, How Can I Get Rid Of It
i have been making my game and it has begun to lagg when they are more than 4 of a range of different enemy clips that have been duplicated onto the stage...ive tried increasing the framerate but this just makes it so when it does lagg...its just more noticeable. ivre even tried lowering framerate but that also just made the lagging more noticeable....

is there anyway to stop this lagging from occuring?

this is the game...you can see how badly it begins to lagg

V-Wars game

btw it can not (from the way i see it) be the music as its export size is only 8kb on lowest possible quality mp3 as are all sound effects.
ive also tried lowering wuality of level bg but tat did not change anything.

Ball Following Box Is Lagging, Have A Fix?
Hi, I'm trying to make a movie clip follow the corner of a box that dynamically changes size. It works fine but there's some lag in it following. I have the code for the following object contained in itself and the same for the box.

I think this can be solved by changing the follwing clip's x and y coordinates within the box movie clip. To do this I need to be able to edit the following clip's properties outside of itself; is this possible? If not, does anyone have another solution?

Anti-lagging
Hi guys, I want to set up a frame-rate detector to sense if a movie is lagging on the user's computer (ie. whether it's running at the desired frame-rate speed)...if it is not, the user will be alerted and given the option to switch to another less animation-intensive movie.

How do I do that?? Thanks

What Is The Main Cause For Movies Lagging?
is it alot of if's? or hitTests? or what? Im wordering beacsue im working on a rather large game and would hate for the finished product to be laggy because i over used a certain command/function. thanks.

E/E

also, how would you go about avoiding using them so you can still accomplish what you need without bogging your game down. thanks

If Statement Lagging With 30+ Conditions
I need to make an if statement that makes something happen at a lot of certain times. The "times" is based on some of the currant frame it is on. I have it so the frame number is stored in a "leftframe" variable. I also have 30+ conditions in the if statement. Which looks something like

if(leftframe == 4 or leftframe == 60 or leftframe == 1000...)

And so on. The thing is, about a minute into the process, the things that it's supposed to make happen lag. Like if it is supposed to trigger when leftframe = 1300, it might actually trigger on frame 1350. Which adds up and makes the whole process out of sync for where it should be. Is there a way to make this statement less laggy so it will work?

Thanx in advance

Sound Lagging, Badly
Hey guys

I'm a bit curious, I'm in the making of a game, it has a main intro, and intros for each level. I'm only on the first level and it's pretty graphic intensive. The trouble is, the sound is always really really out of sync, and sometimes, it starts to play the sounds of the next scene before the next scene actually starts. I've tried optimizing it down and altering the quality, but nothing helps.

Just wondered if anyone had any pointers or ideas. Thanks

Sound Loop Lagging
Hello

I have just finished this website:
http://fitzyphoto.4t.com/

While trying to clean it up and make it more professional I noticed the sound clip that loops in the background takes a half a second to start again, causing it to sound less than perfect. When I play the movie in the flash player it sounds like a continuous loop! Does anyone know why this happens?

Thanks,

Will

Flash Lagging Out Of Syncronisation
Hi, I have calculated the timing of a 147BPM audio clip to be in sync with a flash animation. I have 20 frames per beat that loop to perform the animation that can be seen at http://damien.palominoweb.com/ .

However, dispite my calculations, the video lags behind the audio when I play it in a browser, and stays almost perfect when played as an executable or in the Flash Development Environment.

Is there a way to stop this lagging so that the animation and audio stay in time?

Below is my forumula I used to work out FPS.
Code:
t = "Tempo in BPM" = 147 BPM
f = "Frames Per Beat" = 20 // there are 20 frames of animation per beat.

FPS = (t/60)*f
= (147/60)*20
= 49 FPS
Any help or advice would be grand!

Long Lagging Movie
Hey,

I've been making my Flash cartoons for FredtheMonkey.com both longer and more detailed. Well with the latest of the bunch it seems like towards the end it begins to lag and not sync correctly. What the heck am I doing wrong?

I see lots of Flash movies that are very very long in length but don't seem to lag.
Any tips? I tried seaching for something like this on the board seach but it kept freezing up and timing out.
Thanks!

Movieclip Interrupted Before Its End / Lagging
Hi, this is probably a newbie problem...

On my main timeline, I use a navigation system (a movieclip triggered by a button) that opens and closes and loads other pages. The thing is, whenever it closes, it has to make a particular move to go back to its initial position. Before it reaches the end of its move the requested page is loaded, which creates some kind of lagging, and results in jumping to another page before the sequence is over. On the timeline, the action to load the other page is AFTER the end of the movement, so I don't really understand why it doesnt "wait" until the move is over to load the other pages. I'm looking for a function or something that will make sure the movieclip is played until its end before any other page (either external swfs or another frame on the main timeline) is loaded.

thanks

Preloader Lagging Question
I'm new to this, but basically I'm having a problem with my animation getting jumpy when it gets to a part where a lot of layers and tweens come in. In the bandwidth profiler it goes pretty high for a couple frames. I tried to spread it out a little but its still getting jumpy there. I tried to set up a preloader but it didn't seem to make a difference. I've tried it on several computers thinking that my computer was just slow.

Is there anyway to make it load all the way ahead of time so it doesn't get jumpy? Should I just try lowering the quality somehow? I'll appreciate any help.

Lagging Frame Rate
When I upload .swf files online, the rate of the animation seems to drop. This is really annoying as it throws all the timing off. When I view things in Flash MX, or saved as an .swf on my computer, it plays like it should. The animation rate also drops if I upload the .fla and someone else downloads it and views it in Flash MX. Nobody I've asked can figure out why. So... uh... anyone have an ideas why?

Slow/Lagging Timers
Hello,

I am coding in AS3 and am experiencing a very laggy Timer that I use to run some simple scaleX/Y animations. When i have a MOUSE_MOVE event listener in the flash, for example, the timer completely pauses while I am moving the mouse, and resumes when I stop moving mouse. Why could this be happening?

Problem With Lagging & Publishing
How can I reduce the lagging that goes on in my site? I have a preloader and the fps is set to 30, but still it is very very choppy and its frustrating me quite a bit to put it in nicest terms. Another problem that I'm having is with publishing. It looks fine in IE, but in FF its very very small. I published my at 50% x 100% but for some reason FF doesn't seem to want to comply with those settings? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Animation Lagging Problems
Hi! I'm having some trouble with animation. For a project, I created a Flash file that has animated buttons and includes a portal which imports swf files and plays them. But if any of those swf files have animation (and they're all supposed to), the animation in the Flash file lags significantly. Like when the buttons are pressed, the animation is sluggish and lags. The animation in the swf files also lag, sometimes, but not usually as bad. I've tried importing all my files with as much compression as possible, and I've tried to lower the amount of animation and the results are only slightly better. I've tried making all of the animations as movie clips instead of putting them in the main timeline but I don't notice a difference. I've reduced jpeg quality to zero, removed audio (there was no audio to begin with), compressed the video. My computer is a little old, but my target audience will likely have computers that are older than mine. What can I do to fix the lag? Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!
