Large Swf Problem
My problem is this: I am making a series of language lessons in flash for my school to use. Because the lessons are around 25 minutes and contain sound and some animation, the resulting swf file is quite big- about 15mb. So when a class of 30 all access the file on the internet at the same time it takes ages to load. It does need to be on the net because I want to make it available to other schools. I suppose I could chop it up, but I don't have the knowledge to make them play in a sequence. Can anyone suggest a solution? I'd be very grateful and I'll send you the finished result if you're interested in learning Spanish. Martin.

How Large Is Too Large For A Movie These Days?
Hi, we're developing our portfolio site which will have a LOT of images that must be very high quality. So to keep quality up I know we have to sacrifice file size (or vice-versa).
We've divided each of the sections of images into separate movies so there is usually less than 8 images per movie. That way someone would only need to wait if they clicked to see a specific movie.
- My question is: What is considered 'large' for a movie file in these days of broadband?
We are not planning on having preloaders for the individual movies, and would like them to come up pretty quickly (so no sluggishness or blank screens). I'm also looking into how to have the movies loading in the background so that there would be less or no delay once they are called up.
As an example, one of our larger sized movie tests showed a size of around 350k for med-high quality, and about 750k for really good quality. We prefer to have the quality of the latter, but don't want people to get frustrated waiting.
On our local med-fast broadband (3.0Mb/Sec DSL) the large movie loads up pretty much instantly and looks great. But we don't want to alienate anyone.
THANKS!
How Large Is Too Large For Flash File?
My flash file is already almost 1400 KB, and it's not even close to being done.
I realize this is obviously way too large for a flash website.
As a result, I have to start using the Load Movie action script method.
I hate to think I have to take this thing apart. I am new to loading external movie clips. It seems like a pain!
At what size do you realize that your flash is too large? Have you ever had to take something apart in order to do load movie clips?

How Large Is Extremely Large?
And how many thousands of lines of code? 2,000 lines of code isn't that much.... Does the compile failure occur continually, or is it random?
quote:Unfortunately, there is no unique number that qualifies as too much. However, this issue is known to happen with Flash applications made up of thousands of lines of code, numerous very large objects, or a great number of small classes.

I've Got A Large One
Well I've got a large one, well actually 10 large ones, all around the 150K/190K size.
Now is this far to large for the seperate swf's to a site i'm making??
What is the norm for file sizes on swf, can you give me a roundabout figure,
It's a bit of a vague question yes, but my swf's are taking maybe just a tad to long to load on my 56K modem, I'm going to probably need to start giving them a bit of a shaving!!
thanks for reading
Large .fla
i recently saved a large .fla (372 mb), my first major go at flash, and now the file will not open becuase it is the wrong format? or alternately:"windows cannot find <file location> .Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."
i never changed the format and put about 60 hours of work into this site based on vintage video and sound equipment that plays short experimental films.
any advice? any other way to open the file other than recent docs. and the desktop location? do trial flash programs limit file size?
To Large

I was wondering how you launch a popupwindow so that it goes fullscreen and only has the close minimize and restore functions left in the right corner.
(if no way in flash javascript will do too)

SWF Is Too Large
Hello,
I have a problem. I am designing a flash page, somekind of interactive desktop with monitor, speakers, mouse... I made all this components in flash and put them together (no animations jet). But the expoted SWF size is to large. SWF without animation just this vector graphics is 2.5MB large, and I still have to make external SWFs linked to this main.
Is there anything for me to do, that will decrease SWF size??
What about preloader, that would show the procentage loaded??
Thanks,
Jure
Why So Large?
i have a photo album i made. its a preloader (xtremely small), and 11 pictures. They are all 72 Dpi 320x240 pixel JPG's in pretty low compression (I.E higher file size).
i imported them, and made them into symbols from start.
it seems there is no difference if the JPG quality slider is on 100 or 20 it's still 2,6 Mb.
Is this because i made them into symbols before i compressed them, and the JPG slider does not affect a symbol??

Large Flv
I have a 300 mb FLV file and it is not playing. Is that too large for Flash to handle? It is playing right off my desktop so there is no worries of streaming from a server. I am using a Flash 8 media component.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Why Are GIFs So Large
I'm exporting a GIF from Flash. Its a simple animation, but is exporting to a 500K file. Why is this? Have you guys experienced the same thing?

Large Swf's Not Loading
Got a bit of a problem. Putting together a music video in flash and have one master swf load 18 smaller swf's. Each small swf is between 300k and 800k. For some reason, only 5 swf's are loading in the master, the rest fail to. On their own the individual swfs run just fine, and the code for loading movies is the same format on all of the files, whether they're currently working or not. Could it be because of the overall file size? Is there possibly another problem I'm not aware of? This is time sensitive, if anyone could get me a quick reply I'd be most grateful.

Quick Help With Large *.swf :-)
Hi,
I'm not very experienced in flash, but have a lot of fun with Flash MX for win XP. I've been making a slide show with a lot of 1024*728 jpegs and some animated text. Everything is pretty basic and just running along the timeline. It seemed to work pretty well, but now that I'm finished, the result is a really large file and my computer tends to hang up (the program that runs the swf is shut down by Windows) in the middle of my presentation. I've been considering trying to divide it into several swfs or something to ease the demands on my computer. A simple slideshow shouldn't be that much of a problem for a 1,5 GHz as I consider it. Why doesn't it work and what should I do?
I would appreciate quick help, as the deadline for my little project is closing in :-)

Too Large Of Projector
Too Large of Projector File
I, due to my client managing desired content extremely poorly, have ended up with a projector file that is 35 mbs.
It runs on my machines very well, however on theirs, they receive random "invalid page fault" errors. I am assuming that this is from memory over usage.
I read in the FAQs thread, that if I were to externally load the 35mb main movie into a blank movie, it would stream the 35mb movie off the cd. Is this the case? Would it be succesful for such a large file size?
Does anybody else have suggestions short of re-structuring the program?
I own "SWF Studio", and have not yet published using that, would you imagine that publishing using it might rid the errors?
thanks ahead of time
Projectors Too Large
Is there anyway to make nice and small projectors? The Flash MX Projectors add another 900k to the file size?
Does anyone else have this problem? And how do you make them small like the Flash 5 projectors?
When Is A .swf File Too Large?
I'm in the middle of creating my flash website. At this point, I believe my total .swf file size will end up at around 200KB. Is this a bit too large for a single file?
As a general rule, around what file size should I use as a ceiling before I start cutting up the file into sections and loading them in when requested?
Large SWF File
Hello. I have this big fla file and exported it to a swf file but its still too big to view over the internet. There are a total of 10 scenes and some music. Is there any way that i can split this file into smaller files. Thanks
Large Files
What do you do when you've got a really large swf.
I'm designing a website and the final file is 3.5mb. This is really slow to load in a browser and i was wondering if anyone knew how to tackle this.

Large Files...
Hi. I'm a new user to Flash MX. I've created a slideshow that has 1200 frames and I'm not sure how to make the file size smaller so the download time would be quicker. Please give me some suggestions. Thanks.
Large Horizon
Hey,
I want to make a scrolling navigation that moves a pane along the horizonals, but the pane may be pretty large, is there a maximum to how wide a symbol could be?
If so, couldnt I just make multiple panes, and find out when Pane1 is almost out then bring Pane2 up and scroll that?
Also if anyone has any examples that may help.
Thanks.
Large Scripting Help Need.
Hi, I am a designer looking to find a flash and C programmer to help me develop a application, the main tast would be converting a C program to actionscript, the program is mainly math based, so it would only need to kick out 1 or two peices of information from a few inputs. If you are interested and would like to discuss the project and possible benefits please contact me off list @ Bpurcell@isvt.com

SWF Size Is Way Too Large
i have my test swf uploaded to www.aartpack.com/~michele if anyone would like to check it out. I have 2 major problems with the site and hope that someone will have some suggestions for me before I pull my hair out.
#1 Problem
The first problem is the size of my swf. My preloader percentage bar in my "Portfolio" section is getting stuck because there are so many images for it to load. My swf size is 12.6 MB (I know I know...it's WAY too big!) and I need to figure out a way to make it smaller so it will load faster. My images are saved as png files because the color and quality looks so much better than a gif or a jpeg. My images are also loaded into the .fla file and not externally. Does the swf file size decrease dramatically if you load the images externally??? Does anyone have any suggestions for me to decrease this whopper of a swf size?
#2 Problem
You can see on the site that I originally made my document size 1000x720 because we wanted to have the white space around the content. Now we just want the content of the movie in it's own window. Is there anyway to decrease the white space area of the swf using html?? We want to make sure that the content of the movie stays the same size.
I would appreciate is anyone could help me out! I have been working on this site forever and I just want to get it posted!
Happy Flashing!

A Large Photo...
Hi,
I have a flash movie in 800x600 pixels, and I want to move a 6000px(large)x 377px(width) photo from left to right in a slow movement; but I have tried many times and each time the photo begins from the center to the last part, as if the beggining part was cut. Also, sometimes the photo appears with an unexplainable "motion blur" and stay static.
Why it happens? If the photo is larger than the Flash format, the program cuts the photo??...if that were the explanation, How could I made a photo that big, to move from left to right in a 800x600 format without cutting problems??
Thanks you for the answer.
Bye.

Large Video
what is the best way to incorporate a large AVI file (minutes) into my flash project?
This project will have an EXE file (i think its called a projector file) calling/loadMovie other SWF files (these are pictures, text, video, and mp3). All of which are going to be BURNed onto a CD for distribution.
I tried embedding the whole video but my PC crashes (probably from insufficient memory), and it will most probably crash in other computers too. I tried splitting the video into smaller manageable parts, but there's a lag in between loading (the video must play continuously).
btw, i am only using flash MX (2002).
is progressive streaming (i read somewhere but i dont totally understand ) possible with my version of flash, or do i have to get the newest one?
any suggestions, help, links, tutorials, ANYTHING!!! will be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks in advance...
When SWFs Get Too Large.....
I have a large Flash movie with multiple scenes in it. Now whenever I publish or test the movie, it takes forever to load & is slowing down the process.
Is there any way to separate the scenes into different SWFs that load separately from a master Flash movie? If so, what is the script?
Thanks.
Large Bitmaps For Web And Dvd
I would like to make a 60 sec little movie for the web using large bitmaps. its for a clothes design company so cant make the bitmaps to small. Is there any way i can make the filesize small at the same time..?
I know from experience that Flash doesnt like to many large bitmaps imported into one scene.
Ialso need to make a dvd from of the same project.
If anyone can give me some advice to do this as simple as possible i would be very grateful.
Large Png Files
i would like to make a 60 sec film containing 20 large png`s. The idea is to fade in and out of the pictures. i am a bit worried that the filesize will be too large for the web.
any ideas on how to solve this?
Large Loops
ive been coding something that might require more than 250 loops in a "for" command. Will flash prevent me from doing it?
Going From Large To Small
I'm working with pngs ( Or any image type outside of flash that would work for this). I'm looking to go from large to small and shrink the image as if it were drawing back into the distance, what's the easiest way to accomplish this? i've tried manipulating the tweens every which way maybe i'm missing something?
Large For Loops
Well I'm building a game like that game LineRider. Everything has been going smoothly, much better than I expected. But this is something I usually come across. A large for loop slowing down the game. I would usually know how to fix this problem, but this is different. Since there are going to be thousands of lines that will be drawn, the for loop is going to be massive. I was thinking of creating an array that holds only the lines that are close to the character, but that would still require a large for loop. If anyone could help me, that would be great.
By the way here is my game:

[F8] Large Map Project - Can It Be Done?
I am new to Flash. I do freelance work in autocad, LightWave 3D, Illustrator, Photoshop -- just about everything BUT Flash. However now I have a client who needs the following: An interactive map of Illinois showing all the counties (100+) -- as each county is moused over, certain information/data is displayed. The client wants this map to be used on the net as well as a free-standing application -- I suppose it could be distributed on a CD.
With my limited knowledge of Flash, I thought that perhaps this was the way to go, but I'm concerned that perhaps this project is too big for Flash -- too much data. Other than the extensive body of data, it seems a pretty straighforward project -- just a map with mouseover popups.
Any thoughts out there from Flash experts? Also, are there any freelancers out there who might be for hire for consultation on this project?
Thanks.
Large .fla Won't Export
Okay, I have Flash CS3 and am making a simple presentation, but with lots of large pictures tweening, and some large photoshop files. So far I have made a few scenes and my FLA is already 150 MB big. So far I haven't experienced any trouble, but now flash simply refuses to export as SWF. I can preview each scene (with ctrl+alt+enter) but if I press ctrl+enter it appears to be working and then simply aborts it.

Large Jpg Getting Cut Off At 2880
I have large JPGs or PNGs which ever suits you...and they seem to be getting cut off at 2880 pixels wide...all of my jpegs are 3360 x 2160 and obviously the width is the problem....using the loadMovie method does not work...it cuts off at 2880...using movieClipLoader with loadClip does the same thing...any ideas of how I can fix this or a workaround?
CS3, Why Is My .fla So Large With Barely Anything In It?
I started a project with AS3 set as the publish settings. So far there is barely anything in my library, a couple embeded fonts, movieclips made all with vector in flash and a coulple really small sound files.
I did have a large image and some other stuff to test the preloader but I deleted all of the large file stuff out of the library. Anyways, it's a whopping 150MB and now it's starting to get buggy.
Does working with AS3 store data up somewhere where I can't delete it? Does importing packages or classes have anything to do with it? Theres no way this .fla should be 150MB with the little stuff I have in the library now.
Large Question
well,I can tell right now that what I want to do will not be easy, but I know it can be done and that someone knows the answer.
What I want to do is have flash send information to some other file that will hold the information and that information can be shown at any time in flash. But I also want it so that the origional information can be undated or changed to different information.
My best guess is that this will somehow include variables, but I find those confusing sometimes.
I am using Flash MX .
One of the ways I would use that system is for points. A points system is really what I am looking for just incase what I wrote above is confusing.
Thanks for any help at all
Frame 1 Is Too Large
I've found that even though there is nothing in my first frame, it is 112K. So before my preloader even starts, flash must churn out that 112K.
I don't have embedded fonts. I don't have something off to the side that's not visible.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
How To Upgrade A Large RIA To AS3
Hi,
I've written a large RIA in AS2 with >10,000 lines of Actionscript in various class files. I could really do with the performance inprovements of AS3 but there seem to be very few resources or books out there to help.
Has anyone found any good guides to converting projects to AS3? What I really want is not a guide that tries to teach me AS3 as if I know no actionscript, rather one which says this AS2 structure or these statements are now done in this way...
Any recommendations would be gratefully received! Thanks
First Frame Too Large
I'm creating a preloader to place in front of my movie files, but the first frame of the movie is so large that the preloader doesn't appear until the movie is 50% loaded. I have an flv playback component, which is the reason the movie is so large. How do I get around the large movie file in order to make the preloader appear at the beginning?
