Linking Movies V.s. Linking Levels (swf's)
I was reading about the different types of sites that can be created with Flash. Two of those struck me as very interesting- linking movies (which is supposed to be useful for actionscripters) and linking levels, or swf's. I was wondering what are the pros and cons of both of these methods, since I haven't decided which one I will use for the development of my future site. Thanks in advance.

Image Linking - Text Linking
Hi everyone

I need some help in what probably is simple a function.

I want to be able to make someone else change texts and picture on a flash-based homepage.

1) I want them to be able to upload a .txt-file and then it should change the text in a specific textbox.

2) the same thing with images

How do I do this?

i've been trying to use an empty movieclip and then I guess he sript should be something like:

empty_movieclip.load ??? ("text.txt", 1);
}

and

empty_movieclip.load ??? ("image.jpg", 1);
}

can someone clearify this?

Linking To A PDF
I'm creating an CD using Flash, and have a link to a PDF which also resides on the CD. Oddly enough, the PDF launches properly on a mac, but not on the PC, even though Acrobat is installed.

Here's what I coded to launch the PDF:

on (release) {getURL ("../PDF/secrets.pdf", "_blank");}

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi. I have a question regarding linking buttons in a flash file with pages in my websight. I can't figure out how to connect the buttons on my flash movie with the corresponing pages that are created in Dreamweaver. I have no clue how to link a movie with another page.

In Flash 5

Is there anyway using variables that I can link to .txt files? If so, how about certain parts within one file? Also, is there any file size benefits to doing this, or should I just type it all internally. I'm wondering also which would be easier for somebody else who doesn't know the program well, but would like to edit it.

Linking One MC To Another
i need help!!!

i have a MC (we'll call it MC1) with four buttons... i then have another MC (MC2) which has four sections... i need help in controlling MC2 with the buttons in MC1...

here's sorta what should happen...

MC1: button1 rollover would cause MC2 to gotoandplay frame "section one"...

MC2: button2 rollover would cause MC2 to gotoandplay frame "section two"...

etc.etc.etc.

the actionscript i've attempted to write for these buttons is obviously wrong... *sigh*

can someone help me with this, please???

Hey, I made a popup menu MC following the http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ac...21/index.shtml tutorial and I can't get the darn buttons to link! So I guess my real question is, how do you link a button inside a MC to go to a page outside of the MC? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I have a question.
I created some object in flash and after that copied it to other layer (an example).
If I changing the first object (from which the clone object was crieted) the copied object changing as well.

It's some sort of linking or cloning - where I could disable it?
I do not wish all my copied object had the same varaiables as the first one.

I have four swf files that i want to be linked. I tried attaching a 'load movie' action to the end of the first file and put the name of the second file in the space where it says URL. This doesn't work and the first file just loops. What action do i have to use to link to the second swf? All files will eventually be in the same directory.

Do i have to put the name of the fla or the swf that i want to link to?

Ok i have flash MX and have been having trouble linking a button...

I have my picture that says enter, have converted it to a button symbol, and have tried to use the actions section to link it to my homepage, but all that i can find is geturl, which automatically sends you there, thus denouncing the need for the forementioned enter button

any help?

i am wondering how to properly link html files within a flash swf file.

I am on a IBM not on a MAC

SO FAR: i have a projector that loads swf files into it. for example;

the projector is in the first level
D:projector.exe

it calls swfs in folders loaded and played in the projector
D:websiteswfsani.swf

"ani.swf" has a button in it linking to an html page
D:websiteworksiteindex.html

NOTE: This will be burned on a cd and made into a kiosk. How would i tell both IBM and MAC computers that the drives don't matter and that they should look and load from within the folders specified.

so far works great on PC but not on mac. how do i fix this problem?

The other problem is this, mac computers do not load the ani.swf file into the projector but on pc it does. How do i fix that problem?

ok i got 3 spirts i got one on top ( the banner ) one on the side ( the menus ) and one in the middle ok i need to know on the menu how to link them so whene you click on the the site to come up (in flash that is ) is going to leave the top and side bars alone and show up in the middle spirt only ok im useing v2.o of swish and if you could explain to me or give me a xample it would be great thanx (kinda like frames

and a main nav using swish - i know swish is gay! but im still learning Flash

is there anyway of linking the intro.swf to the main.swf like you do from scene to scene?

after the intro finishes i want it to load main.swf?

Im using flash 5 and i have a problem. Actually i have 2 problems. I made a menu in flash 5 but all my submenus are the same and when I would like to change one of them they just all change and that's wrong. What did I wrong?
My other problem is that I don't know how to put a link to a text or to a button in flash 5.

I am having a few minor difficulties with Flash Mx

Basically a have made a small flash banner advert for work

http://www.executive-magazine.co.uk/ its at the top of the page , the black advert , the problem is that it automatially forwards you to the next page ????? i want to link the whole movie so when it is clicked it will forward you .......

I have gone inserted a transparent gif over the whole movie and linked it to http://www.executive-magazine.co.uk/current/comp.html by Actions > Get url and putting in the address and choosimg "self" so it dont open another whole page ......

WHY DOES IT AUTOMATICALLY FORWARD YOU ? AND IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN LINK THE WHOLE MOVIE WITHOUT USING THE TRANSPARENT GIF ?

I have a flash movie on an html page. I want to link from that url page to another page with a flash movie on it. Now I know to use the getURL for that. But how do I link to a specific part of that movie? I want to link to a frame label I named "contacts".

I was wondering if it's possible to link an url to an mc on the stage. I can linnk a file(.swf, .jpg that's on my server, but I want to linnk an image from another site, much the same way as is done with html.
Does anyone know the code that would accomplish this?

I've created a Flash document which is linked to a text (TXT) file and it works except for the fact that special characters, such as an amperstand (&) or 'e' acute (é), causes problems or don't appear at all. I am trying to make a portfolio website and some of my works are in exe form in director and other programs. Is there a way to link the exe file from my website? If so, how? If not, what can i do to the exe file to make it linkable?

Hi, this is my first post here. I'm interested is there any way to change link in swf file, of course without flash.
For example, if you have banner ads campaign, you can't do all the time and change that links for affiliate people. Is there any chance to do it without flash. I know that is not possible to put in html table, and also know that is some software called URL Editor but I don't have it! If you have any solutions, I'll be greatfull.

if you go to http://www.guerilla-records.com/index_flash.html you'll see my main page, i have taken all the links from the top of that page and placed them into a seperate swf file...

that swf file is then going to go into a seperate html page... what i want, is when the user clicks one of those links on the seperate html page, i want to load the same content as if it were being clicked on the main page, if that makes sense?

Is there some way, maybe in powerpoint, to have a group of maybe 4-6 swf's who's order could be interchanged depending on your audience? Is there any way else to put swf's together so they can be customized? I know the swf's themselves cannot be customized, but is there a platform they can be inserted into so that the presentation itself can be? any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible for a seperate swf navigation system to tell another swf to play animations?

basically what I want to do is to have my top navigation control a bottom swf file that will show the animated info when you click on the top navigation... make sense?

does anyone know of any examples of this... if its even possible, or maybe something else i can do?

Linking Across 2 Different SWF's
Hey. Im designing this pretty big page, and i need some help here.

I got a menu in the left side of the screen. And a menu on the right side. In between we got normal HTML text and pictures.

Is it possible to make it so when i click on a certain button in the left swf document, that the right swf document then switch to a different keyframe`??

or for best effiency, would it be better off making it all one big fatty Flash document??

I also need to intergrate a login system. So would it be easier making it all flash or just some flash and some not????

Linking PDF's To
I'm trying to publish a CD-ROM that links main menu buttons either directly to PDF files, or to a file folder that contains the PDF's on the CD. I've been trying to use the get URL Action and typing in the path to the file. This just brings up a browser window that says "file not found."

Does anyone have advice on how to link buttons to open external files or applications? Is there Actionscript that can do this? I'm working in Flash MX on Mac and using Toast Titanium 5 to write the CD-ROM. Ultimately, I am trying to publish this as a stand alone projector that will work on Both Mac and PC.

Any advice would be awesome.

!!HELP...Loading PDF with fscommand
I created a button with fscommand..and put following..

on (release) {
fscommand("exec", "regpdf.bat");
}

I created fscommand folder and put in same folder as projector.
in fs command folder I created text doc and saved as .bat with following in text

@ echo off
start reg.pdf
exit

In fscommand folder I also put reg.pdf

IT doesn't work when i burn to a cd!?! It works on a zip disk though!
Please help...deadline!!!

I'm building a portfolio site - 4 buttons _ about_ news_portfolio_and contact = I have created all the buttons and tested them and they work fine _
_ here were I'm lost
I right click on the frame and insert a new KF _ I add more text to thi key frame and call the frame about _ then I go back to my first frame and add an action to the button _ test it and works good _
But when I add a thrid frame with more text and call it news _ i then preview the file _ the news button only works when you click it first _ the about link doesn't work -- and when i refresh And press the about button first it works fine but the news link doesn't work _ can anyone please help _ my head hurts

I've made a photo album. And I would like the thumbnail buttons I've made to link to a URL. However. I would like to constrain the URL to a specific sized window. So when the user clicks on the thumbnail in Flash, it opens up a new window (html) sized to about 300x300. All I can get accomplished right now is a full screen window. Any help? I use dreamweaver also. Is there something I need to do in there?
