Flash :: Load Swf From Director

Problem Getting Flash/Director Animation To Load In Internet Explorer [renamed]
I am SUPER new, so please don't laugh at me...

I have created a VERY simple animation in MX2004 and placed it in an HTML file using Dreamweaver. When I visit it using Mozilla Firefox, it works fine. However, when I visit the site using Internet Explorer, it shows the Macromedia Shockwave "loadin bar looking" screen and never loads and doesn't display the animation. Please help me, I'm dumb! I've been working on a project in flash where I have used keyDown commands. It works fine in actionscript. The problem is that I would like to import it into director. But my keyDowns doesn´t work in director. If I made buttons in flash it works in director. But keyDown doesn´t work. Do anyone know why it doesn´t work? I hope someone can help me.

Flash Button Within Director Movie To Go To Other Director Movie
I have made a menu in flash with various buttons on it, and imported it into a director movie. I was wondering if I could 'within flash' tell each button to open up a different director movie using the actions panel, ie 'open movie - whatever.dir'. is this possible.

Is there a Flash equivalent to the Director "on idle" frame function?

In Director you can pause the playback head at a frame, and then use the "on idle" function to do a repetative task as often as the cpu has free cycles.

eg script:
on enterFrame
pause
end

on idle
do something processor intensive here
end

In Flash, I am using "gotoAndPlay" to a frame label located 1 frame before the script that needs repeating indefinately. This seems like a waste of processing power.

How do YOU do it?

Now with the video capabilities of MX is this a good option for CD presentation making. I've used flash for awhile and I know that director has a steep learning curve. I'm not going to be using 3D really so is mx the better option?

Are there any problems in making .exe/.hqx files? Will I need pc and mac versions if I want to make cross platform stuff?

Hi,

I need to put together a CD which contains a menu to offer various options which will describe a product. The menu would autorun from the CD and then automatically start a video running introducing various aspects of the company and products with a profesional narration over the top of it. The video would then end and a menu would be available behind with options to view different video clips going into more detail. I have restrictions in that the CD must be a conventional CD-R of say 650Mb so I cannot use DVD-R's however the video would not have to run full screen or at exceptional quality. Would Director be the answer? I have Flash 5 and Flix already so could I get away with this? I do not have ages to learn Director or another piece of software but if it is fairly straight forward and would do the best job I do have the budget to buy it.

I know this is the wrong place to put this but i dont really believe there is a right place.

I have had this game in my head for ages now and although its simple to look at (pacman is like doom 3) i want to add alot of general physics in which i believe flash just couldnt cope (plus i dont much care for flash games).

Wheni first started learning Flash i instantly googled flash and found this site. Thats nice and its a nice place to be

However, now i want to look into director. I dont know anything about it (i can use the development tool ok but lingo). I dont know its capabilites, can lingo work with particles without slowing to the speed of a C64? Anyways thats off topic.

Why is it that Director or more inportantly, Lingo is a well kept secret? lol well i mean, no one cares about it. I have been to a site which i have read is the oldest director community site but the design is so bad that i cant actually navigate it.

OReilly publish no lingo books (there might be one but its old skool) director books, or the ones i have thumbed through all have 30 pages on Lingo and i cant seem to find a forum based site for it (like this) but that would be ok IF i could maybe find some other source but there is none available.

Anyone know where i can go to learn Lingo?

I'm trying to import my flash file (.swf) into Director 8.5. But the file comes in with the sides cut off ..... it has a fullscreen command in the start as well. Anyone had this problem before or know why this is happening

FMS + Director. Can I Use?

I have 2 questions. One is with SWF decompile problem

1 - If we are using SWF with Flash media server than how come SWF is cached on user computer and be able to decompile it. I have read that Flash media server dont cache SWF on user computer. Need answer please

2 - If we are using director. Can we use it with Flash media server for multiplayer games etc? Dont want to use Xtras that give multiplayer capability to director. Any one tell director has good integration with Flash media server? and is wise to use it with FMS

I am looking for a way to read data from an ASP.NET page into director. Is this possible? I tried using getnettext() but no luck. All i am wanting to do is perform some processing on the server (read values from Database) and pass them into director movie. I am aware that this can be done with ADOXtra but i am trying to avoid it as it needs web server setup for remoting etc...

i'm doing a project the now on macromedia director 8.5.. i aint too clued up on lingo, especially radio buttons.

Say i have 2 radio buttons, a yes and a no.. if i were to summit the page, wat script do i use for it to know if its yes or no...
say it were yes that was selected, how would that take me to another marker..?

as i was wanting it so if someone selected no or yes, it would go to the right markers, once i press the 'go' or 'summit' button..

Moving UP? To Director - Oh Help
I have previously made flash presentations for CD-rom output that check, using a simple Load variables loop, to check if the user is on line and if so give improved functionality to the presentation.

However the powers that be now want the same thing in a director presentation and I HAVE NOT GOT A CLUE!!!!!

If you can think of a way or point out a director tutorial I would be grateful.

also If you can tell me can I reuse the flash loop (mentioned above) in the director environment to accomplish the same effect and how to implement it.

Sorry that this is so off-topic, but there seems to be a complete lack of useful Director resources. Someone pointed me in this direction saying i may get help here.

I'm pretty much a beginner with Director and I've got 2 questions about scripting. The first is,I want a generic rollover script for changing a sprite to another(I can make ones that are sprite specific but that means a lot of seperate scripts).
Theres something in the helpfile under rollovers about a script that swaps the sprite with the next one in the cast which would be perfect, but im a bit clueless with scripting at the mo and it doesnt explain it simply enough.

Secondly, I've got 5 rollover sprites that, when the mouse moves over them, i want some text to appear elsewhere on the stage.
Someone said about creating an invisible sprite and making it so the rollover changes the invisible sprite to some cast members consisting of the pieces of text. But im getting a pretty stuck with all the scripting for this as well.

I need to do this because I've a Quichtime movie with sound i MPEG format that I want to import in Flash; this file is toolarge for flash (more than 2500 JPEG files) without sound and I cannot export sound track because is equal with film track. I am working for the past few weeks on a CD-Rom about a company's presentation. I have designed it in flash, and now I have imported it in Director 8.5

My problem is that my client wants in a section to show some thumbnails of pictures and to provide the chance to the viewer to download the hi-resolution picture to his/her PC (or Macintosh).

How can I do it? How can I make a script that when I click on the picture (in Director 8.5) a browzer window will appear that will give me the chance to choose where I want the picture to be saved in my computer?

does anybody know if flash onclick actions can be used in director, for example i have created roll down menus in flash and put them in director but the only way i can get a click on a menu option go to a director frame is by putting a transparent box created in director over a menu option from the roll down and place an onclick goto frame behaviour on te box

2 Questions

1) If i use my flash navigation in a director 8.5 movie, how do i communicate with the Director timeline, so that the flash movie can navigate around it.

2) How do i create a Mask in Director. I want to do the same sort of thing that i would do with a flash mask (ie i want to scroll images within a certain part of the screen) But i dont seem to be able to find any references to it anywhere. I dont want to use a flash mask as it slows down the director movie.

Flash Vs. Director For Cd-rom?
Hello, I've been working on a cd-rom which plays videos that sync with text bullets. I've been working in Macromedia Director, but now that I have Flash MX it seems I should start over and design it in Flash.This is due to the new imbed video feature which I believe should sync the video with the text with too little problem. My question is whether or not any of you can tell me if there are any other considerations that I may be overlooking. I'm about 65% done on Director but it seems I could create this in Flash quickly and the end product may have better useability, ie. also be web ready.Should I supply the Flash 6 plugin or can I have just a projector?
Any suggestions or advice?

i have a director movie with a flash toolbar within. i want the flash button to tell director to go to a frame with the dir. file.
im using
on (release) {
getURL ("lingo: go to frame 15");
}

but my flash button is a level down in flash and i cant get the button to register in the dir. file. all the buttons on the top flash layer navigate fine.

any suggestions?
