Making A Survey

Hi I am trying to make a simple 10 question survey on one page where the user rates whether they agree or disagree on a scale from 1 to 5. then at the end if the total is between a certain total, it gives them appropriate feedback.

I can get the feedback part to work, but I can't seem to figure out a way to get flash to add the answers to the 10 text input fields to get a total.

I modified this code from a quiz tutorial. Then of course i would repeat it with answer2, answer3 which are the text fields:

on (release) {
if (answer == "1") {
result += 1;
}
if (answer =="2"){
result +=2;
}
if (answer =="3"){
result +=3;
}
if (answer =="4"){
result +=4;
}
if (answer =="5"){
result +=5;
}

}

at the end i have some script like this:

stop ();
finalresult = result;
if (finalresult<5) {
comment6 = "You scored "+finalresult+"You could use some work";
}

it doesnt seem to work, and when it does add the fields, the number is wrong. Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Survey
Hello Gurus,
I downloaded a small survey .fla and modified it a little bit, but I have a problem. The survey doesn't keep in memory votes, if I refresh the pages everything is set back to zero. So how could I keep all the datas from the survey? By exporting a text file and import it back each time somebody access the survey? Can we do that without database? I'd rather not using db.
Thanks

All the research I've done states that I should do my own research, so...

my question is what is your FPS(frames per second) of choice for:

a) flash animations

and

b) video using the new flash codec

and why?

thanks for any and all responses.
(if I could change the frame rate at export this would not be an issue

Survey Forms
Hi. Here's what I planning: 1)make a simple survey page with radio buttons, checkboxes, drop-downs, etc. The reason I'm not just simply doing it all in html, is that 2)I want to insert an animation over in the corner that's hidden until you mouse-over a hotspot. I can't do that in Animation Shop. I need to learn it all in Flash anyway, so why not now? Anyway, I need some tutorials with step-by-step instructions for doing both of these things. Anybody got any hints? Thanks for any help you can give me.

PS I also need specially coloured textbox bgs, fonts, and scrollbars. Should I just insert CSS later, before publishing?

Need Online Survey Help
Hello,

I am working on an interface that allows users to create a custom wristwatch; The frontend is done :

http://www.colingoldberg.com/watchmaker/

I now need to be able to write the user's name and choices to a textfile. What I would like to be able to display once the data is entered are the most popular choices for each of seven features (a numeric value from 1-6), and based on this information, generate the most popular combination on the screen.

I am running this on Apache; there is PHP/MySql support, but I have never used either one; My backend experience is limited to working with premade scripts, and configuring them to run on my server. Any help or suggestions as to where to start would be appreciated, or if you know of anything online which is similar and open-source, please let me know.

Help Need To Create A Survey
Hi -- I really hope someone is able to help me...

I am 100% new to Flash and am in a nice bind. I have been given a project to complete at work and have to have it ready in 4 days!

I have to design an interface with a few fields for user input and a few questions (which have yes/no answers). After the user answers each question there should be feedback telling them they have answered it and what their choice was.

The form should check for blank fields/unanswered questions and should identify any that are found. If everything is filled out correctly, the user should be informed that they have successfully completed the form.

I also need to make a link to an admin view where the total questions results numbers are displayed....

the project requires much more, but that is the jist....

I have a few books on Flash and ActionScript that I have been reading, but I was hoping for some advice or perhaps a template of a survey form that I could work off of?

Anything anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks in advance

[CS3] Help With Flash Survey
Hi! I was just hired by a client to create a series of Flash surveys.

You don't have to read this whole thing, just the question at the bottom, the rest is background and the way I'm going to make the survey in case any of that it relevant to the answer.

Here's what I need to do:

Create a system where the people being surveyed can enter their name and survey number and be sure they match up (identification system). Then, the survey should appear. It should be a series of multiple choice questions (using radio buttons). Each question should have a "submit" button at the bottom which advances the user to the next question. At the end of the survey, the answers, person's name and survey number (which was entered at the beginning) should all be stored in either a database or could be emailed (but a database is preferred).

I just wanted to make sure I'm going about this correctly. Here's what I plan to do:
Create a sort of faux-login system, that just uses "if" statements to make sure the name and survey number match up. Then store the name and survey number in variables.
Next, the person should be advanced to the first question, which will be in its own MC (all of the questions will be in one MC).

I'll make the radio buttons, and will store each answer in its own variable. At the end, the user will be sent to a thank you page, that will load all of the answers into an answers MC.

I plan to use loadVariables(); to send the variables to a PHP document that will then email them to the client.

My question is: How do I make it so that once a person has used an ID number to complete the survey, that ID number then becomes invalid? (I can't use local shared objects because some people may fill out the survey from the same computer but with different ID numbers.

Thanks,
Sportzguy933

XML/Flash Survey
I'm trying to create a flash based survey using XML and I'm running into a wall as far as programming goes. I need to have the capability to have an infinite number of survey questions depending on the XML file (which will probably be written from a database) Each question can have up to 10 choices. I need to know how to read in the XML data, have dynamic text fields update with the question and have instances of a button visible/invisible as needed. One a user makes a selection, it moves on to the next survey question. Any help would be great. I'm a creative designer assigned to some programming slighty over my head.

Here is what I'm doing with my XML file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>

<xmltest>
<question>
<id>GENDER</id>
<caption>Where gender are you?</caption>
<answer>
<id>1</id>
<caption>Male</caption>
</answer>
<answer>
<id>2</id>
<caption>Female</caption>
</answer>
</question>
</xmltest>

And so on and so forth...

Help me, please.

ESPN Survey Without Generator
Hi,

I'm trying to do an ESPN poll type question in Flash. I do not have Generator on my server. I think its still possible with ASP, but I'm not sure.

Basically, I have a question with answers a,b,c,d. The person clicks their choice, hits a submit button and then sees the results including total votes.

1) What's the best way to accomplish this without Generator? I think my biggest problem is when the user hits the submit button, how can I get their selected choice and insert that into Access. There is no radio buttons without Generator right?

Director Roadmap Survey
Hi all,

I realise this is the Flash forum not the Director one. I've posted this
email to various Director groups and thought I'd post here for anyone
that has a connection to Director.

I've set up a comprehensive Director survey looking at how Director is
being used and what people expect from the product. It is not a wish
list survey but one that looks deeper at features and how they translate
into real projects. I have done this by asking users to the following:
(1) rank broad feature categories (3D, text, sound.)
(2) look at a subset of these broad categories and rank them
(3) give detailed examples of products that employ these features.

This is the most detailed Director survey in history and can take 25-45
minutes to complete. The time will depend on how many feature categories
you choose to focus on and how many examples you provide. I STRONGLY
encourage you download a PDF version of the survey to review the
questions and features covered. Once you have put your thoughts
together, you can then enter your answers online.

I'm using Survey Monkey to manage and collate the survey. Please go to
the following URL first:
http://www.deansdirectortutorials.com/survey/DirectorRoadmap/
It gives the survey link, the PDF version, and some general info on the
survey.

The survey is mainly focused on users that develop products with
Director. But educators, learners, or anyone else that uses Director in
some form other than commercial development, can fill it in. So, spread
the word:)

Thanks for reading.

Dean

Survey Flash File
okay, here we go

so for all of you who have myspaces, you see bulletins with surveys that people do
you read them, almost everyone with a different amount of questions

i would like to make a flash file

in the flash file it would have a text box for a question and then an input field for the persons answer
it would have one for every question

after the person fills out all of the questions there would be a question at the bottom and when clicked, would copy the html code plus the persons answers to each question

now as i said before, each survery has a different amount of questions
so on my server i would have a text file and each line would have a different question, which the flash would take and insert into one of the text fields for a question
but i couldn make a flash file with a set amount of text boxs for question and answers

so maybe on my txt file the first line could be a number
for example 40
and that would mean there would be 40 questions in the survey and the flash file could make 40 input fields and answer text box
and then each line would be a question

so for example
line 1 would be the number of questions
line 2 would be the first question in the survey
line 3 would be the second question in the survey
line 4 would be the third question in the survey
line 5 would be the fourth question in the survey
line 6 would be the fifth question in the survey
and so forth and so on

is this possible?
how could i do it!?
im sure i would need maybe a php file
but not sure what the code would be and the actionscript

thanx for your help in advance!

Registration Form/Survey
I am a web/graphic designer and I've been given the task of creating a registration form/survey for our clients to complete, except it needs to be Flash. I am fairly new to Flash, so I'm running into a few speedbumps.

The form is quite long, close to 80 individual text fields, checkboxes, and/or select boxes. So to make it easier to navigate I want to break it up into several pages, possibly with a tab structure to simplify the navigation.

What I'm not sure how to do is design it so that each page saves the information when the user clicks "next" to move onto the next page, and when they reach the end sends all of the information collected across all of the pages in a single file in the form of an email. I anticipate that "send" function to operate using PHP and I'm pretty sure I can handle that, but how to make it send ALL of the data collected, I'm not so sure about. And how to make sure all of that data is collected as they progress through several pages, and that it can be modified if they decide to go "back" and change something, also is confusing me.

Can anyone offer any advice? I have searched for tutorials along these lines but have not had much luck.

UPDATE: Just to clarify, I am familiar with LoadVars and how to utilize that to send data collected, and I anticipate using PHP as opposed to any other method to do so... it's the collecting data across multiple pages and storing it until the user is ready to submit that I'm not sure how to accomplish. I hope that helps a little...? If there was a way to allow them to go back and modify the info already submitted, it would definitely make the finished product that much better, but this feature is not required.

Am I biting off more than I can chew or is there a reasonably straightforward way to do this?

Sending Survey Data To A Database
First, apologies for asking this common question (i see lots of other people have tried to do this) but i can't seem to find any useful help in the rest of the forum.

Objectives:

Create an online questionnaire in Flash MX
The form will have some text input boxes (name, email, contact details etc), some tickboxes, and for the majority... radio buttons for preference (love it, impartial, hate it... for example)
When the submit button is pressed, data is added to a database
Admin can access the db at any time and view the data (preferably exportable to MS excel)

Questions:

I know how to get the components onto the stage, edit the formatting etc. Firstly, how do i send to a script

Secondly how do i make that script add the variables to a db

And also... what type of db and script is best to use? (i have little to no programming knowledge in asp, php, sql)

So, the challenge is set! Am i beyond help?!?!

Many thanks in advance

Flash Quiz/Survey From Scratch
Hello all,

I'm starting a project this weekend and i'm looking for some good resources (sample .flas or tutorials) for a not that simple Flash Quiz/Survey. I have found examples of Quizzes (is that a word?) that calculate percentage but none so far that do this...

Question 1: "How many times a week do you visit Flash Kit?"

<radio button 1> "1-2 times"
<radio button 2> "3-5 times"
<radio button 3> "6+ times"

<SUBMIT>

Note: Multiple Choice Answer - All answers are correct - (like a survey).
Then comes the tricky part (for me)...

When the viewes selects an "answer" they are taken to a "Tip" page that "evaluates" how they answered the question and provides a tip based on that answer.

So, if the viewer selected <radio button 3> "6+ times a week" they get a "Tip" that says...
"Wow you must like it there - it's a good resource place and community".

But, it doesn't end there (oh no)...

On the "Tip" page the viewer is then asked another question (boolean)...

"Do you use other Flash web sites like actionscript.org to find info?"
<radio button true> "Yes, I do"
<radio button false> "No, I don't"

<SUBMIT>

There will be 5 questions in total - All with this same format.

All of the viewers responses for the 5 questions, tips and sub-questions are recorded and sent to a "results page". This results page then can be reviewed and printed as a desk reference.

One additional item: Originally the project scope was to be linear-based (Question 1 > Tip > Tip Question > Question 2 > Tip > etc... > Results)

Now, it has to be set to allow the visitor to select which question they want to answer (in any order) - Allow them to check their results, go back and change their answer etc. etc.

So, any help - pointing me in the right direction for some sort of tutorial or source code on this would be great. Thank you in advance.

PS > Survey Question: How many of you think that being required to build something like this in 2 days (along with the entire interface, audio, custom illustrations and photography) think my client is off their rocker?

Thanks again.

Todd from Philly

Survey For A Weird Video Problem
Please use Internet Explorer (only IE is having problems) and navigate to the QMax product page via the main menu: http://www.unipac.com.my

Products > QMax

and then please answer if you're able to view the Flash video on that page.

Thanks in advance.

Client expressed his full frustration to me when many of his clients and some of his staff complained to him that his video could not be seen or not loaded.

Also, here's a weird behaviour. The computer I was using in their office couldn't play the video unless I clicked on their QMax logo on the homepage (below) that links to the product page. Weird.

I'm currently experimenting with the source by using the non-standards compliant embed code to see if it'll solve the problem because the rest of the Flash on the website are using A List Apart's Flash Satay method.

The prototype version we have running is fine all round: http://unipac.hawks-eyrie.net

I'm also looking into these other solutions if others around the world face the same weird problem:
1. Embed Windows Media Player
2. Recommend client to move to a different host (current one is their choice)

p/s: If anyone can give me a heads up for the cause of this problem, it's much appreciated. Thanks.

Survey With Dynamic Text Boxes, Yikes
I'm building a kind of survey, that allows the user to click on a response to a question from a variety of different choices. At the end, I have a page that displays the questions and the answers they picked and gives them the option to print.

The problem now is...originally the user only needed to select one option. Now I have a few questions where they need to be able to select multiple options, in some cases they could select everything. The Dynamic text boxes I have built now only allow for three lines of text to display...in these new questions the user could pick as many as 20 things...

basically the question is on the final display page how do i get the text boxes to change to accommodate if more than three lines are needed...and so that the other response boxes will shift up and down as needed if more or less lines are selected.

been looking all over the web for something similar and not finding anything

Zoom Button/ Color Change/ Survey Results
first of all, i'm using flash mx 2004 professional, which runs on actionscript 2.0.

My brother is trying to get a clothing business going, and I offered to do his website for him. To showcase his designs, I'm trying to use a flash movie that will show different designs on different types of shirts. I'm having three problems

Zoom button: I'm hoping to have a zoom button so that someone could see the design in larger contexts, since making the design that big normally, would require the movie to have dimensions so big that it's just plain inconvenient

Color Change: designs come on different shirts, and I was wondering if there is a way that I could change the color of the shirt image through actionscripting the button, so that i don't have to make a massive amount of frames.

Survey results: not really a survey, but its essentially the same principle. I was wondering if there is some way that I could email the customers choices, or at least save them to keep things convenient, so that my brother could ship the product without having to go through some email exchange.

I realize some of this probably belongs on an html coding site, but if you think any of this can't be done through actionscript, please let me know.

I appreciate any help.

Making A Box Out Of Nothing
I'm trying to make a box that is "drawn" starting from a dot. I want it to start as a dot that stretches down into a line, than splits left and right, goes to a point, they both turn down, than turn again at the bottom and meet in the middle. I've tried tweening it, but it gets frigged up. What can I do? Using a mask sounds like a pain in the butt.
