[F8] Help With A Mask Effect Please
christmascard.fla
At the moment i've got the house and sky/stars on the bottom layer. the body of santa is on the next layer. there is going to be a small movie clip animation right next to santa.

if you look at the mask.fla example i would like to incorporate the effect onto the christmas card where you can only see a small part of santa first (through the mask) and then widen the viewing area so you can see all of the stage

I've tried to replicate the effect from mask.fla onto christmascard.fla but failing miserably!

any help/advice greatly appreciated!!!! THANK YOU!

When you check www.haphazardstudios.com you see the pictures of the guy coming up with more then 1 mask at the same time on one image.
How do they do that ? can somebody tell me ?

Hi

I'm supposed to do the mask effect used on this site http://www.vanal.com/ihr/index.html.

It's not the animations of the introduction but the "pushing" the image to the sides resizing the mask effect what I'm looking for.

I tried to search various sites but it's difficult to find that.

If someone could point me some tutorials or even explain it in a simple way (if there is one).

Mask Effect In Flash 6
(1) I made a layer named "text".
(2) I made another layer named "image" underneath the text layer.
(3) I imported an gif image in the image layer.
(4) I type a word in the text layer.
The word says "flash".
(5) I selected the text layer, and did right click.
and choose "mask".

then,
- It shows the mark of mask in left side of the text layer, and the image layer belongs to the text layer.
- The both layers is locked automatically.
- I can see the image of the image layer in the inside area of the word "flash". it's like a flashing effect.

My problem is I can see the flashing effect in the fla, but
I can't see the effect in the swf.
It shows all white.

It used to works in flash 5.(I can still make it with flash 5, but it doesn't work in flash 6.

Can you find out what is my problem?
I am expecting your help.

Hi,
got one more for today,
i am attempting to make a mask for my animation, that fades out at on side. in the moment i am only able to to make a mask wich is one solid block ,the alpha effect does not seem to be the answer to my problem....
could anybody give me some advise?

Question About The Mask Effect
I know these two methods for creating a "hole" effect in a layer that is above another one:

1. I select an area inside a shape that occupies the whole stage. Then I delete that area.
2. I create a shape on a mask layer and then I lock the mask layer and the masked layer. The area that is not transparent is the area that will be transparent when masked.

The effect in those two cases is the same: I create a hole where I can see the contents of the layer underneath.

Now, my question is: What is, then, the actual difference or advantage of masking a layer?

I know very little of the "principle" of using a mask (besides what I said above), therefore I thank anyone who can explain me this.

i really like this curtain-mask idea that is used on this great website www.massimodutti.com
i have begun to more or less try the same thing but cant seem to get it to look just right.Analyzing all the mask movements in this is abit tricky.
On the site they succeed in getting that liquid movement.Can anyone say that is this done with actionscript or animation?My guess is animation.
Should anyone know of any similar tutorials or open source fla's utilizing this technique please lets me know.
It needs to be animation as i have to be able to export jpg sequences for adobe premiere.Final format will be televsion.

Spotlight Mask Effect
I thought I had seen a tutorial on flashkit on how to create a spotlight effect, via masking. I searched and haven't quite found what I need. I would like to have a background image (GIF) appear to be darkened by about 50% - and a circular mask sort of creates a spotlight effect for the areas I wish to highlight at 100% opacity. The highlighted areas will be frame-by-frame animation...

Any suggestions?

Reverse Mask Effect
Is there a way to make a reverse mask?
Normally a mask reveals everything under its shape. I want a mask that reveals everything outside of its shape.

I can't easily explain the reasons why I need this feature. But I do.

Mask: Sand Effect
i want to create a mask that reveals an interface that i've made for a site i'm working on. The site has an arabian feel so i thought it might be cool to have the site gradually being revealed by a mask that appears to blow across the page like a sandstorm or perhaps the effect of sand being blown from its surface to reveal whats underneath. I would think this could all be achieved through actionscript but personally i wouldnt know where to start, any ideas?

btw the interface is 812wide by 690 high

How Would You Produce This Mask Effect?
Just looking for some guidance here...

I want to have two bitmaps on the stage, one grayscale, one 4C ( 4C on a seperate layer below the grayscale). The effect I want to produce is to have the user click and drag over the grey image to reveal the color image below...kind of like they were coloring the image. So I'm basically "painting" on a mask for the grayscale image to reveal the color one.

Any ideas on the best way to produce this?

click on any menu item or one of the news items or something. i want to duplicate the transition effect, which i gather is just some sort of mask that is scripted?

can someone tell me how to do this or show me a good tutorial or something? obviously i could manually create the 40 or 50 little masks it takes to cover the whole page area, but there has to be a more efficient way?

Help With Mask/visibilty Effect?
Hey Im very new to flash but loving these boards. My question is basically how to create an effect.... I want to have a Picture/background, but have either a dragable or mousefollowing MC that displays whats behind the Picture. Ive tried a few mask options to no avail, so wondering if i need to creat an MC with some actionscript that makes the picture beneath it invisible??? If ive totally lost you check out this site and it gives a kind of example im looking for. Basically when you move your mouse, then it reveals the buttons to go to certain sections that are beneath the Picture... Any help would be greatly appreacited! Thanks! Spen

Blur Mask Effect

I am trying to figure out how the blur mask on top next to the picture of the man sitting is done. I am wanting to make the same effect but with text that is blurred that is under the mask, but the remaining text outside the mask not blurred.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Mask Effect Does Not Publish
I'm using a simple mask effect with text and an image, but it disappears when I preview or publish the movie.

Any ideas as to what I can do to resolve this are much appreciated.

Does anyone know how to create this effect with actionscript? I'm sure I could do it with masks but I'd like to keep the load time short and snappy.

Sliding Mask Effect
I'm working on a project and like the general idea behind the sliding mask on Converse's website (www.converse.com). I've been playing around with it (I'm only using 3 as opposed to 4 sliding options), but am having layer visibility issues, where 2 will work and one won't because of the layer order. Then I'm having trouble even with the ones that work, getting the movie clip to play in reverse and revert back to the intial screen. I've tried a few different variations, but am coming up with the same results.

Anyone have any insight as to how this may have been done? Thanks!

Mask A Blurring Effect
I am doing a screenshot using the bitmapdata class, and I would like to apply a mask on it. That way, I can have the blurring effect with sharp edges. Is there a way to do it ?

In my example, I created a square named mc and it is on the scene.

Then, I created a container that will hold my screenshot, and a mask. The mask is a screenshot too, and place exactly where my square is.

If I don't apply the mask, the blurring effect is working. Now if I apply it, the blurring effect doesn't work anymore....

I'm referring to the top portion of the page. When you change the background it also shows this mask effect with the squares scaling in a sequence.

Now, I assume that this involves creating the grid in an array, but then how do you make them scale out in that sequence?

Mask Effect Not Showing Up
I created a simple mask effect using CS3 Pro on WIn XP. When I run the animation in Flash, the effect works perfectly but when I publish an SWF file, the mask effect does not appear. Strangely enough, I sent the FLA file to someone who has the same version of Flash as me. He opened up the file, published an SWF and his mask effect worked fine. Am I missing something here???

now i want to use a mask effect that makes the current image disappear on pressing button to go to other section.
(on entering new section i want to use a mask again to reveal new image etc.)

Mask Effect Via Mouse
I have 2 photos, and i want to animate the first photo, so that when i move my mouse left to right the first pictures moves and the other one reveals. I have attached an example of what i am trying to achieve. So i want to move my mouse over the picture and uveal the photo under it. I hope you understand.

LiGHTING MASK EFFECT
hi there..i hav just learn on the effect called lighting mask effect..it's suppose to be a streak of light that goes across the words.
but unfortunately..no matter how many times i tried..i always encounter this probl that is the streak of light always..only goes across my last alphabet.why is that so?

Faded Mask Effect
I know absolutly nothing about flash... ok... i know how to make a slide show and fade things.... nothing to special... what i want to do is have an image showing for about 5 seconds (60 frames) and then for 1 second (12 frames) have a black box with a faded edge slide over the image and expose another image... how can i create this time of image??

For an example, look at the flash box on gamespot.com's home page that has the 5 sections.
