Midi In Flash?
Hi,
May I know is it possible to embed midi file in Flash?
I tried to import a midi file to library but I always get the error msg "cannot recognise the file format". However, when I tried with .mp3, it seems ok.

Flash And Midi
I'm new at this. I just purchased a flash movie to use as an introduction to my site. I embedded an midi into the page. Since the flash is a large file, I hoped the music would entertaine users while the flash downloads.
However the movie starts immedately, the midi starts playing and the movie stops. Nothing seems to be downloading, and my isp seems frozen. Any suggestions.
Should I put the flash on a page in a frame and the midi on another page in the same frame, would that work. The flash and the midi seem to work together on my local computer when I tested it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I've been messing around with MIDI files and can't seem to get them to work within Flash.
What I want to do, is simply create a menu with my MIDI files (XML??) and play them within the FLV.
Does anyone have an example of how this could be done (assuming it can) or perhaps a better approach?

I wish to use flash as the video part of a live music performance. The music is created externally to the compter on various midi instruments. But is all connected to the computer via Midi cabeling.
Is it possible to setup midi triggers in Flash, like in a standard music sequencer?

Hi,
Is there a way to integrate midi in flash (as you can do it with
mp3 or wav)? I do not want to convert it since it takes too much
space in mp3 format. And the option to include the file in html
is not possible since it has to start at exact point.
Maybe to call an external html file which only has code to launch
midi in it? But then how to stop it? (stopallsounds will not work
or will it?)
BTW..I use Flash MX.

Is there any way at all to get a MIDI sequence, the on in question is a 10 KB 1st movement of Beethoven 14th sonata in the key of C-Miner/'Moonlight' sonata, into a flash animation using Flash MX?

Transparent Bgr And Midi With Flash?

I have two different questions put into one thread.
1. Is it possible to make a flash movie with transparent background, that is all the HTML graphics will be seen behind the transparent movie put on top. (Like a gif picture)
2. Is it possible to load a midi file from HTML code and then manupulate it through Flash with the fscommand? (sending PLAY, DoStop commands to the corresponding JavaScript functions?)

Flash Getting MIDI Inputs?
Hello there,
I was wondering if there is anybody who knows anything useful about what I am trying to do. I am trying to get Flash to interact with MIDI inputs. As in I want flash to for instance execute functions based on when certain keys are activated on a MIDI keyboard.
I want MIDI - events.
The only way I've been able to do this so far is by having a MIDI-keystroke translator running in the background and code things through that detour, but I am hoping to achieve more out of the whole thing. Besides, what I have set up is a bit clumpsy.
I have found something called [Flash Open Sound Control] but I am having a bit of trouble sorting out exactly what that is.

Midi Files In Flash
I have discovered that there is no way to import a midi file into flash. I have tried converting it to wav, but no matter how much I compress it, it always ends up about 20 times larger. A 9kb 1 min midi turns into a 20Mb wav. I've also tried mp3 but I still get a large file size.
I've also thought about using javascript, etc to get the file to play outside of flash, but I have about 10 music files for different parts of my movie, and I can't have the user waiting for each one to download...
Is there any solution to my problem? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Flash And MIDI Music?
Hello!
I was wondering - like many other people around the world as I noticed - how to make Flash work with MIDI music.
Flash 8 still doesn't support playing MIDIs in a way, while such files need very little space and would be perfect for such movies. It is quite sad that this doesn't work, especially as I have a bunch of musicians that could help for such a project - and playing 5 MB MP3s is out of the question in an online Flash movie.
There exists a tool that makes MIDIs somehow possible, see here, but this requires a plugin to be downloaded etc. Not really very helpful as a solution for users who want to click on a Flash movie link and enjoy it.
Personally I use Flash with MIDIs in movies, simply by showing the movie in a framepage, while the hidden frame plays an embedded music. That's simple and effective as long as you don't need to change the music.
I was wondering if there would be a way to communicate with a HTML page in order to change the music. It surely must be possible in a way, though I assume that it is impossible to fade out a music that way.
Anyway, if someone has thoughts on this, I'd appreciate any help!

Using MIDI In A Flash MX 2004 Project
I am working on a game for halloween and every single cool audio file I have found online is MIDI. Is there a way to use these in Flash MX?
If not, does anyone know how to convert MIDI into mp3 or whatever else flash likes using a MAC?
Also, does anyone know where I can find cool and spooky FREE MP3 loops for my game?

I'm semi new to as3 and writing code. This is my idea for a project but I really have no clue where to start. If anyone here has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm starting work on a midi piano game in flash. I have my midi keyboard hooked in through the USB. Now I've been told that there is some way to get flash to read any kind of input but im not sure on how. Basically all that will happen is that u hit a key on the piano and a box shows up of random color. Longer u hold a key bigger it gets. Each key will have different box assigned to it. I think I could handle everything but I'm stuck on the first step and that is getting flash to read the Piano key presses.

1. When I create an .exe file, it plays in Flash Player - is there any code I can use in the actionscript to make it stay 'always on top' while it is playing? I don't want it fullscreen, I know how to do that, and how to make it stop, quit etc.

Midi Keyboard As Input Device For Flash MX2004
Hello,
has anyone ever used a midi keyboard as input device for a flash application?
My planned Flash Project would have to track the keyboard input of a midi as well as a normal keyboard as the input devices will be exchanged during the progress through the application.
Does anyone know how to track midi keyboard input via ActionScript and what features of a midi keyboard can be tracked?
I'd be greatful if anyone could point me into the right direction,

Flash Remoting: Java MIDI Interface & Flash
Hi, im currently researching for a project and im new to Flash Remoting, so im wondering if the following could be possible.
Im developing a musical educational program for kids with a flash GUI front end. Now the project will need the use of a MIDI interface device (Keyboard Piano) which the child will use in order to play games/learn from the program. What im thinking of doing is writing the MIDI interface program with java. So for example the child has to play three notes, I want java to handle the key presses of the MIDI device and have flash light up the relevant keys on a virtual keyboard.
Can this be done?!

Okay, I know that you can't import MIDI into Flash. But does anyone know WHY? I know some might argue that things will sound different depending on people's soundcards and drivers, but shouldn't that option at least be available? I mean, I have a 40 sec MIDI file and it is 11KB. If I convert it to a WAV, it's 331KB and that's in 8 bit mono. Even if I use compression techniques, it's still gonna be a lot bigger than 11KB.
If I didn't like how the MIDI sounded in Flash, then yes I could convert it to WAV (which I doubt I would like the sound of that, since the quality has to be reduced). But I would like to at least have that option, ya know? Any thoughts?

I have a PILE of music i've done, and it just hurts to have to convert them to a needlessly huge mp3 file to be able to use em...
long ago in director i had such a plugin.. worked fine, too... mind you, the music had to stay external.. which is something i wouldn't be too keen on for flash..

This is not a flash prob but I can't seem to find anywhere else. I work in Dreamweaver 2 and have put a midi file of jingle bells on our site. This plays great, but whilst I can have it so that the controls don't show I'm left with an icon on the screen. Is there anyway I can make the icon invisible so that only the music plays.

On this site, I could use the sound effects they had. I would click MP3, a little box would show up that would play, and to get it on the desktop, I would save it as quicktime. Just to let you know, I have a Mac, so wavs don't work. But can't you convert wavs to AIFF or MP3? I can't do it! I tried opening a wav up with a CD ripper and the file didn't show up (meaning I couldn't open it).
I really need to import a MIDI! I had a MIDI on the net opened, I saved as quicktime (just as I did with the flashkit sound track), but flash couldn't import it! It said it had problems reading it. I've tried this a million times, and I still can't import the MIDI file! (note, I have flash mx)
I checked info on the flash kit effect, and it was a sound track. I check info on the MIDI file, and it was a music track. Does that make a difference?
I really need this question answered! PLEASE RESPOND!
