RTE For SCORM1.2 With Netscape Support
Hello Everyone.....

I am having problem running my Learning Course on LMS (Learning management System) with Netscape.

Can anybody suggest me any RTE (Run time environment) for SCORM1.2
with netscape support. I have used Sample RTE 1.2 from ADL but it doesn't support Netscape.

.avi Support
i imported a .avi (500k), and once exported, flash created a huge file (2MB)...why did this happen?
(NB; i didn't add any other elements, or change any import settings either)

I just have to say that you guys on these forums are the best. I am a big-time newbie to Flash and while I have the books that came with Flash 5, The Flash Bible that I borrow from work, and another one, and two graphic artists at work - most of my problems get solved right here on "Flashkit". The guys that have answered my posts have not only done their best to help, but they've gone out of their way! Trying to replicate my problem, taking screen shots to demonstrate something, or just going into minute detail to help me out.

Does My Server Support PHP?
Hey guys, I actionscripted a .swf file to respond with PHP on my server. Its a mailer with a form, that when filled out, sends to me. Sort of like a feed back section.

The problem I'm having, is that I don't think its responding with the PHP file on my server. I made a little status window that says "Sending, please wait..." and the PHP file is supposed to respond with "Completed, thank you for sending."

It is my own server, in my house. How do I get it to support PHP?

I'm using Microsoft IIS, Internet Information Services, as my server software.

Language Support, Please Help
Hoping someone can help me. There is probably a very easy solution to this problem, but right now I cannot find it!

I am trying to translate a Flash game that I made in English to French. I am using the English version of Flash MX and I am trying to create the French version of a quiz game. The problem is that my version of Flash is not recognizing some of the characters and is dropping them from the words.

Example: français becomes franais
la côte de becomes la cte de
En quelle année a été signé le traité de Paris? becomes En quelle anne a t sign le trait de Paris?

Is there some support file that I can download for my version of Flash to correct this? I'm working under a tight deadline so any help would be hugely appreciated.

MX 04: Language Support
The embed characters function is fabulous - you can select to embed sets like Greek as well as the basic ones ... Top marks.

The strings function is a good idea for for static sites with static content. It seems like it should have been taken a bit further though, you would have thought some actionscript to let you change the displayed language or to map individual strings to textfields would have been an obvious next step.

Or am I missing something? Does anybody know if that is possible?

Multilanguage Support
Hi All,

I am facing a problem in Localization. I want to display Simplified Chinese language characters in flash. This data is kept in XML files with UTF-8 as encoding format. The data is loaded in flash file and displayed in a dynamic textbox (with Arial font). I have tested these files on different machines and found that the text is displayed properly on Windows 2000/XP but when tested on Windows 98, on few machines the text was not displayed properly, it was showing square boxes in the text field. Where as on some windows 98 platforms, the simplified Chinese text was displayed properly. I am not sure why this is happening, especially with Win 98 platform.

Please help me to resolve this issue.

Movieclips Support By Non-SWF?
Hi,
it seems like non- SWF Bitmap- formats like AVI or PNG(Alpha-channel needed!)donot support movieclips. Am i right, or did i miss any settings? I am concluding, because Flash renders out fine, but only the frames that are directly on the stage, but not the linked moveclips. Got me? Hope so. I donot know the correct terms of the english version, but it should not differ to much

I've an array of strings (in English) which is being used as help text. The client now wants multi lingual support that is, the help content to be displayed in russian. The problem is that the russian transcript (character set) is not being supported in flash. It displays non standard characters something like this..

Flash And DDE, Does It Support It?
Does Flash support DDE?

Basically i want to make mIRC (A IRC Chat program, www.mirc.com) send commands to a flash "client" located on the users harddirve, and having the flash client send commands back to mIRC. Any ideas?

If such a thing is possible, is it possible to do it from a webpage? As in the flash.swf file is on a webpage.

I dunno though, is any of this possible? Thanks for any replies!

Streaming Support?
Hey guys I'm trying to figure out if there is any sort of streaming support in flash specifically for loading swfs. I've got a swf that loads other swfs into various movieclips within it, but each time it loads one there is about a 1-2 second pause while that happens. The swfs it's loading are rather big (1-3 megs) so I was wondering if there is a way to stream in these swfs so that the load doesn't happen all at once.

Arabic Support
I'm a newbbie. I am enjoying learning Flash but I get frustrated when it comes to working with Arabic Text eg: فلاش و العربية. On the stage the textfield content gets reversed as soon as I finish editing it like so:
ة ي ب ر ع ل ا و ش ا ل ف
This doesn't help neither at design time nor when trying to apply some effects on text.
On testing the movie the text is only supported by fewer fonts or is reversed like on the stage...no control at all.
My question is: is it possible to write a script and somehow add it somewhere into flash like a pluggin or add-in to force the text object to act as it does with latin languages...?

I have no clue about perl and I'm still a begginer in Actionscript (only few weeks ago when I started learning) but I hope someone will converted the logic in the code of the file in the link above to Actionscript and then apply it to the text object in flash...

Font Support
Hi,

This might sound a very simple one but I dont know the solution.

There are 3 text fields on the stage with some text.

I publish the movie.

When I run the SWF file on another comp the font changes as the other comp dont have the font installed on it.

One way to solve this issue is I will install the font on that comp, but I cant do this for all the comps.

What could be the solution?

I purchase a developer license of Flashblocks 1.4 a long time ago i had everything running on my website running action script 2 and flash player 7, but now i change my web design i just realized that one of the components "flashblocks media Browser" is not compatible with flash 8 and action script 2.

I asked the creator for support but I;m still waiting.

Hi,

I've just been reading that flash supports the li tag. It does seem to put a bullet point in front but doesn't pick up on any of the css I have like:

li{ font-family:Arial; }

Is this just more dire html/css support from flash or do I have to do something else?

Continuations Support?
I was wondering if there are any plans to consider continuation
support in flash/flex? ...predominantly to support the concept of a
smarter "Thread.sleep(n)" without blocking or disrupting the
single-threaded execution model.

For context, here is a "sleep" pseudo-example how it might look conceptually.
The example's meaningless result, and for loop are a weak case to show how
these complicate/invalidate any use of setTimeout in the current
flash/flex model.

For my purposes, I am writing a general-purpose tool for developers
that would locate one or more components in the UI hierarchy (by some
criteria), then return those components so they could interact with them.
In searching for said components, I have come across embedded
SWFLoaders which are not yet finished loading/reloading, and sleep()
(via continuations) would allow checking it's state periodically and
not disrupt the execution stack, callers code or block the overall
application.

From a runtime perspective, I assume there is an "EventManager" and one event
thread that dispatches one event at a time off the queue. Basically, if
Continuations were introduced, the current event thread (Thread1) would
sleep() when Continuations.suspend(x) is called, but would also tell the
EventManager to create a new thread (Thread2) to continue processing the event
queue. When Continuations.resume(x) is called, Thread2 would halt while Thread1
resumes and finishes... then Thread2 would continue. So while there are
physically 1+ threads present, only 1 is active at any given time (managed
by the EventManager)

Do Not Support HTTP_REFERER
To Adobe-Flash Team,

Recently I found that HTTP_REFERER variable is missing when a link in a
flash is accessing or url (i.e. ASP / PHP), the HTTP_REFERER variable in all
these language are empty.

Any plan about this problem to be fixed?
or Anyother ppl have alternative to achieve it.

OpenGL Support In AS 3.0
The success of PV3D proves the need for 3D support in Flash, which would be greatly enhanced if the GPU capabilities
offered by most PCs today could be activated in Flash.

I was thinking that there is a (simple?) solution to this consisting in extending the AS 3.0 framework by:
- including a class offering a binding to a small subset of the ubiquitous OpenGL API.
- making possible to transfert the content of an AS3.0 bitmap to and from an OpenGL texture

This approach would make possible to render at full speed complex 3D models in OpenGL textures, and then inject their
aspect in Flash scenes.

I suppose that PV3D could easily take advantage of such a capacity at the implementation level, without
changing the signature of its classes.

Any comment?

Key Support For Buttons
I have a button on a simple animation. but I have been asked to provide key support for the buttton

Attached to my button is the script:

The mouse release works fine but pressing space does nothing. Can anyone suggest something?
