Flash :: Open Windows Explorer

Need To Open An Exe And/or Shortcut And/or Windows Explorer
As described in the message title, I need to know how to run an Exe and/or Shortcut and/or Windows Explorer, I'm not fussy which, however I need one for the application I'm developing to work. I don't know if it's even possible, or whether I should be using Actionscript 3 (I'm using AS 2 as I have a little bit of knowledge with it) however any help would be appreciated.

I am running Flash CS3 and need to file to be in an HTML format.

Btw: I've taken a look at fscommand however I'm not sure if that has anything to do with what I need...

But, how would be able to open a Windows explorer and go to a certain directory when I click on a button? thanks.

Alright..so I took on a project that is way over my head. I'm new to this stuff so forgive my terminology.

I need to create a button that launches a path to a folder on a network. I thought I could use:

getURL("\PATH", "_blank");

Can Fscommand Open A Specific Folder In Windows Explorer?
I'm creating a CD for PCs which, from the autorun window, has a button which launches an Explorer window, but I want it to open to in a specific directory or folder.

I've managed to launch the Windows Explorer application, using
on (press) {
fscommand("exec", "explorer.exe");
}
where explorer.exe is located within the fscommand directory, but I don't know the syntax for a PC to find the correct directory (not the root directory).

Any ideas?

Also, a bonus would be to open the Explorer application at a specific size.

Open Windows Explorer And Make External File In Front Of Flash Proyektor.
I have to problem with my proyektor file.

1. when I open external file (pdf file with .bat file to run it), the adobe acrobat run under the flash proyektor windows so I can see the acrobat reader before I quit the flash proyektor.

I need to make the acrobat reader run in front of flash proyektor. It seem the flash proyektor have "always on top" command.

2. How can I open windows explorer from flash? Is there any actionscript for this?

Hi everybody,

Is it at all possible to open a windows explorer window from flash, browse for a particular file and then send the path of the selected file back to flash?

I'm using Flash MX btw.

Windows Explorer Look
In one of the forum replies JR you gave a link which contained a windows explorer kind of look. What i mean is that it basically had a folder structure and clicking on the + sign beside the folder used to bring up the vertical scrollbar in IE, if the Flash file scaled down. I hope it makes sense, is it possible JR to forward me the link again as I cant find it anymore.

It Looks So Simple In Windows Explorer...
Okay, I need some help figuring out how to do this. Wonder if anyone can figure this out...the effect I'm trying to create is like Macromedia's tree-menu component...

I have a tree-like menu (heirarchal) in a box (just a graphic symbol in a layer below it, not a text field or anything). When you first enter the site, the menu just has the 6 main catergories, but when you click on a catergory, it expands to present submenus. No problems there. The problems are as follows:

I need to scroll the menu when it's expanded enough, when it gets to 2 or 3 catergories opened with their submenus, the menu stretches outside the box, which I don't want. So I masked the box, no problem, it hides the menu that stretches further than the box, but now I need to figure out how to use some scroll arrows I made below the box to scroll the menu when it's too long to fit in the box and it's being hidden by the mask(and only when it's too long, not when it's fitting in the box just fine). I got the scrolling working, but since the menu can be different sizes (depending on what catergories are open), I can't figure out how to tell flash when to stop scrolling it (perhaps it could check the height???), and for now it scrolls right out of the site.

Another problem is that when you expand the menu, anything that is hidden by the mask layer above, just won't show up at all when you scroll the menu to get to it...

Windows Explorer Viewing

For some reason the web page will only work correctly in Firefox Browser. When I look at it in the Opera Browser some of the pictures are missing on some pages. BUT when I look at it in Windows Explorer the images are either displayed out of order on top of each other (MUSIC TAB) or Displayed outside of the frame (HOME PAGE).

....NOW HERE'S THE BIG ONE....When you load up the home page, go to the music page, and then return to the home page again and everything will appear normal...then same when you return to the music page again. What do you think of this issue?

If you have any other suggestions about ways I can make adjustments of the action script or anything else please share them.

Linking To Windows Explorer
I'm creating a flash based browser menu system. It will be distributed as an auto play cd rom. I'd like to have a button on this flash movie open the windows explorer to a certain directory (not file) on the cd to display contents of whats in that directory.

I tried using the fscommand and geturl and specify /foldername but doesnt seem to work.

Any ideas?

[MX-MX04] Open The Save As / Open Windows
Hi,

I would like to click a button, which opens either the 'Save As' or 'Open' window (something like what this HTML does: <input type="file" size="40" name="file1" style="font-size: 8pt; font-family: verdana">). When you click open (in the 'Open' window) then the file path is put into an input textbox. And if you save (in the 'Save As' window), well, can you save things from an swf file? I've seen a save as jpg done, but nothing more... If you can save as anything, I'd like to know how.

I'd appreciate it if you gave code in either MX or MX2004 format, thanks :P.

Internet Explorer Windows And Flash
Hello to everyone. Scenario: I have a flash movie in a window that uses Javascript to resize and remove the scrollbars and menu etc...
Question: If I have a link in my flash movie to a URL, how can I get that URL link to open in a NEW Internet Explorer window with all the bells and whistles. As it is right now, the URL opens in the child window and is confined to the Javascript settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• What I want to accomplish: I want to open a Windows Explorer window right where I have the images inside the CD, so that via the interfase in Flash the user can navigate directly to a folder without using Windows Explorer.

[CS3] Launching Windows Explorer From Flash
I am working on a CD Browser for our company's software CD. One of the features of our previous versions (using demoshield and html) was a selection to "Explore the files on this CD" which would launch Windows Explorer at the root of the CD. How might I do that in Flash? Would I use FScommand? If so, i assume that I would have to use a batch file that would launch explorer? Any help would be appreciated.

Troubles With Opening New Windows In Explorer

I'm currently working on an artists site www.artnthings.com
The main page features four different links that are suppose to pop up in new
windows. Right now only 2 of these links are actually completed, but all of them properly pop up for me in netscape to their proper size and position. However when I access the same main page in exporer 6, only one of the links pops a new window up (the one for contact). I've checked the code over and over and can't see why only that one link works in explorer as they all appear to be identical. Any ideas why it would work fine in netscape and only partially in explorer? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, i love this site!

I have just created a flash site and now I have a question. How can I make Flash to open a new explorer window when I click on a button so that my basic web page remains open. Like if I click on a picture, a new window will open, where that picture will be magnified. I didn't want to make this all in one movie, because pictures are too large(1Mb)

Drag + Rollover Effect Similar To Windows Explorer
Hello all,

I was hoping to pick some brains here. Supposing you're in Windows Explorer (in WinXP that is), and you drag a file and hold it over the folder you're going to drop it into. Now, when you're holding it over the folder, the folder highlights.

How can I recreate this effect in Flash MX?

I have a "tile" movieclip, and a "container" movieclip. The tile is meant to be dragged into the container. In the situation where the tile is being dragged and held over the container (ie, mouse button has not been released), the container is meant to change colour.

my GetURL functions differently on different systems
for example, sometimes it opens explorer which is fine, sometimes it opens up Netscape and this sucks the life out the project... links dont work, movie files dont play, SO i choose good ole simple explorer as a preferable browser.

I'm trying to tell my flash file that on release it needs to open a folder in explorer.

So far I can only get it to open in the default browser. It's not an online application, just a CD. The idea is to make finding the files much easier for the audience. I thought that it would work better as a web page, but they were very specific.

So My site www.mentalfabrications.com works fine when I run it in firefox, but when I try to run it in explorer, it doesn't open. I thought it was maybe because of the popup, but I've found other pages that will open up a popup window in explorer without a problem... Pop Up Wont Open In Explorer, But Will In Netscape?
Hi, I am new here and I am in need of some help. I put together a website for Michigan State university's design center. The problem is that the pop up will "pop up" in in netscape and safari, but not in internet explorer.

Pop-Up Fails To Open When Tested In Explorer
Hi All,

I've created a pop-up window in Flash and it works fine in Safari, however when I try the same file in Explorer 5.2.3 nothing happens.

I've used the same code etc on the button that I've used previously with no Explorer issues.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as It's really frustrating me.

PS I'm developing the site on a Mac

Centered Pop-up Doesn't Open In Explorer?
I just fixed my site up in flash, and opened with a centered pop-up.
But it doesn't seem to open in explorer, and it does perfectly in Safari (mac). www.wdotp.com

Movie Explorer/Actions Tabs Won't Open
Is there a bug in flash 5.0 or am I missing something? The problem is I can not get flash to open the movie explorer/actions tab when pressing the bottom button, using the menu item, short cut, or clicking on the "a" in a frame. It was working previously but ceases to work now.

Also,
I tried creating a new movie and still nothing. All the other panels work but not ME/Actions... Please help.

Open Explorer In Front Of Full Screen Exe
At the moment I have an exe file that opens up full screen. There is a button that opens up a PDF document in explorer. Here is the script for the button

The document opens up fine but because the exe file is full screen the viewer has no idea that the document is open.

Is there a way to open the document in front of the exe.
