Pop Up Window That Opens To Show A Picture On Website. Not A Popup Window To Open URL
Here is a link to an example of which i am referring. If you rollover anyone of the pictures a pop up image appears. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Close.window Script In Flash Button Quits My Browser Window Or Crashes System
Can somebody please help me?
I have a javascript attached to a button in a .swf file to close the browser window it is in.
The code which was given to me yesterday by senocular is

however if you try it IE will unexpectedly quit or bomb my computer.
I tried it in Netscape and it didn't crash.

Editorial opens new window with editorial.swf inside. Click on top right button to close window and see what happens.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Please help me.

Link In Pop-up Window (flash File) Target=parent Window
I have a flash demo that is opened from our web site and spawns a new window. At the end of the demo is a link that directs the user to "get more information." I would like this link to open the "more info" page in the PARENT window rather than the spawned window. Currently I have my Flash link coded with:

This is not working. Do I need to add some code to the parent window and/or the HTML page where the Flash file is embedded?

Passing Variables From Spawned Window To Parent Window
Is it possible to pass a variable from a child to a parent window.

I have one page (Index.html) with a swf (index.swf). A button on the index.swf launches demo.html containing a demo.swf. When the user gets to a certain point in demo.swf, I need to tell index.swf that it has arrived. Is this possible.

Pausing After Preload If Browser Window Is Not Active Window
Hi folks,

I'm trying to figure out how to do this, but so far I have had no success. The intention is for anything like a Flash trailer, intro movie or such like which is large to preload and once this is done check to see if the user is still viewing that browser window.

So if during the preloading the user opens/selects a different window and the preloading finishes then the Flash will go to a paused screen, awaiting the user to indicate they want to proceed (eg a play button). If however the user still has, or has returned to, the browser window it will skip the pause screen and play the animation.

For an example the 9th chapter of Ninjai.com seems to do this (I haven't checked the other chapters).

Any help would be appreciated.

GetURL - Targetting The Parent Window Of Popup Window?
Hello!

Yet another thread on getURL but I did a search and couldn't find anything related to my question, so here goes...

I have a website which launches a 900x400 popup window which contains an interactive flash movie. From within this movie, I am loading in HTML from a text file which populates a scrolling textfield.

I was pleased to learn that href links within the text file work as links within the flash textfield. What I want to do is have these links open in the parent window that spawned the popup.

If I use target=_blank on these links, the pages open up in a new browser window.

If I use target=_parent on these links, the pages open up in the same popup window and obviously replace the flash movie content (goes to the link instead of launching it in the parent window).

Is it possible to use the _parent target to launch these links into the main website that spawned the popup or is _blank the only one?

If anyone has any tips or experience on this matter it would solve a huge headache for me.

You will notice that although you might have popups blocked the site still pops up. I have checked the source and they seem to use window.open.

Loading External SWF's Into A New Flash Window Instead Of A Browser Window?
I have this flash presentation where I have buttons when clicked on, a (_blank) browser window pops-up and begins playing external SWF's.

The problem is that, with windows XP, every time I click the button(s) to have the browser window pop-up, to play my externals, the damn 'virus protection notification' thing pops-up first, asking me if this content is allowed. Is there a way to turn this off? My client does not want to have to "allow" the browser to play the external SWF's everytime. I've tried everything but no luck.

Better yet, is there a way to have the external SWF's pop-up in a totally new flash window, on top of the main (presentation) window? I don't want the external SWF's playing in the same window, but rather show in a new window entirely. Can anyone help me? This project is past-due and it needs to go out today. I'll attach the current scripting I'm using so far, if it helps. Thanks so much!

I´m a guy from Denmark, who´s using flash as a way to promote my self.

I´m fairly good at using flash, but I have to admit, yhat I´m not very proficient at scripting/programming in flash and neither java. but I´m very eager to learn the art of programming/scripting.

Here´s my quostion for all you "HEAVY PROGRAMMERS" out there:

How do I make a new window, without any borders, as we usually see.

Is it a java thing or a flash ?

In the recent past I´ve discovered many sites using this technic. And I´m very curious about making this window.
A window without any borders
A window, - but not the normal popup window, that Explorer generates.

I´ve seen that Samsung uses it in theire website, and someother companies.

My only succes so far is using the getURL, but this opens the image in a browser or in the same window, and I just want to open a new window with the projector, not an internet browser. I'm trying to load a new html file that contains a movie but I like to specify to what frame to proceed in that movie I try to write this in actionscript I think it is easier to understand.

[F8] Target Parent Window From Popup Window
I launch a popup window from a flash movie in the main window. When I close the popup window, I need to target the main movie to go to the next frame, depending on weather the the movie in the popup has played to the end. I tried making use of Javascript with a url quaryString when opening the popup:
window.open("popup.swf?variable1=stringvar")
I also tried Flashvars in the param and embed tags, but do not know how to send the flashvar to the popup. Then update the Flashvar when the movie in the popup is done. Then when I close the popup, communicate with the movie in the main window to go to the next frame.

This need to be done without php, cause I need to deploy this in a LMS environment.

Child Window Redirecting Parent Window
I have made a movie that gets launched from a browser window. In this movie is a button that when clicked needs to close the window and direct the parent window to go to another address. I am using this code to close the window..

Hello all

I'm trying to use the getURL("javascript:window.close()"); code on a button to close my HTML window. But after I publish the file if I click on the button nothing happens.

Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong? Do I need to add another file to the folder where my SWF file sits? Or is there an Internet Explorer setting or something that is disabiling this?

Window Content Management (using Window Component)
Hello,

I usually preffer clean code, so this is my problem:

I'm writing the following code in the .fla file:
var main:SmthMain = new SmthMain();

And the rest of the code is in .as files only.

I can't seem to find a way to control the content of a window (mx 2004 component). That is asigning handlers on buttons, retrieving values from textinputs and so on.

onLoad and onComplete does not have the content fully loaded.
only onEnterFrame seems to work but this is bad coding.

I could use a sample code. Maybe from someone that really has it with AS2.0 and MX 2004 components.

Opening Links In New Window From A Centered Window...
Hi there. I used this chromeless centered window tutorial to create part of my page...

It works fine, I have a little intro, then you click a button, main page loads in the center like it should.

Thing is, I have links within the movie to outside websites, sites I want to display in their own window. When you click these links however, they get loaded up in the same centered window as my main page. Because theyre alot bigger than my flash, you can barely see even the corner of each site. And I want it to open a whole new, full size browser window with all the normal buttons it should have.

My site is the only one I wanted centered and chromeless, the others should act like any old link.

Got it? Think I made that all sound right...
Anyway, any ideas on what to do?

How do you launch a small and centered popup window at the same time that you open another html window as background?
I tried to do this but it doesn't always work. Especially if you return to the opening and begin again, the small centered window doesn't appear. I used the code from Kirupa to launch the centred popup window and I added my own bit -getURL("white.html", "_parent"); here it is complete code:

Problem With Alert Window On PopUp Window
Hi guys,

I am making a Interview application in which i am showing a Pop window with close button enabled (using mx.managers.PopUpManager class) in which User can edit the content.

Now I want to track If User has changed the content and tried to close the Pop Up without saving changes. In this situation, So I tried to show an Alert window for confirmation to discard changes. Here I am getting Problem with Flash getting struck and giving message "A script in this Movie is causing to Flash Player to run slowly...blah blah". This is my problem.

I tried removing other Event Listeners also but no luck.

Opening A New Window WITH Furniture From A Window WITHOUT
Hi ya,

I've had a scoot around the site and seen some references to something similar to this problem I have. Hopefully if I describe it, someone will suggest something!!

Okay - we have a furniture less browser window opening up with a flash movie splash screen. Once the splash has finished, a 'Click Here' button appears, which has a getURL action on it. This new URL is supposed to open a new window but this time with furniture. Any suggestions as to how to do this because the norm is that the new window will inherite the layout (ie no furniture) of the last window.

i have a page called main.html which contains main.swf and the javascript function to open a new browser window... no problem there.

however, when I go to my frameset (index.html) which contains main.html.... and try go open a new window from the main.swf flash piece... i get a javascript error. what is going on with the frameset that is causing the open new window to fail?

try it out.

Targeting Another Window From .swf In A Popup Window....
Ok...

I have an .swf in a small popup window.

At the end of this movie, I have a button.

I want this button to open the new link in the window that originally launched my popup window.

I'm aware of the javascript function "window.opener", but I'm not sure of the AS syntax I should use.

Can anyone help me out with this?

I see alot of websites that when you open them the first thing that comes up is a smaller window that is not resizable. Then after either watching the intro or bypassing it, the main page opens in the explorer window. How is that done? If I have a two swf files and I want one to be the intro page and the other to be the main page how do I make the first swf file viewed in a "popup window"?

I have been having trouble getting a flash site to launch a new broswer window for a html document. It worked fine when opening a new flash window but not html.

Anyway someone on here kindly helped me and sent me this code:

Which made it work the only thing is it pop up including the browser menu at the top - does anyone know how i can get rid of this?

Also within the html doc - http://www.design8ed.com/digitalspir.../designcs.html i have a close button which when reviewed works but when published it doesn't close the browser window - is there something i'm missing - why isn't it working?

Sorry if this has been covered, but searching the forums for my answers got a little tedious...

I've got a Flash object in an average browser window (which, for the sake of this query, we'll call "Big Window"). Inside the Flash object is a button action with a JavaScript command to open a new, smaller window ("Small Window") with various specs (250x400, no scrolling, etc). Up until now, everything works in a lovely manner. No hitches or quirks whatsoever.

Small Window features no Flash objects. It's pure and simple html. What I'm attempting to do -- and this is where I'm stuck -- is make it so when you click a link in Small Window, it changes the contents (i.e. opens a new page) in Big Window. Kinda like, putting your car in reverse. Er... or not.

Anyway, would love it if someone could help...

This is just a quick question which I am hoping has a few lines of code as the simple solution.

I have a mvie clip in flash that resides in a html page. When you click a button in the swf the actionscript tells it to open a new window to display the link.

What I want to know is how do I do it so that when it opens it contrains the new browser window to a certain size,

Frist let me thank you for helping me in calling an image from a flesh movie into a new window, now i have a little problem related, see..

first i stablish the javascript functions from an action in a blank layer like told to:

but when i run the movie, the first calling works AOK but, when I click on the button at the called window, the image comes into the same window.. I tried adding the _blank command in the button instance:

but it still calls it on the same window, what am i doing wrong?

How To Make New Window Open In Same Window
anyone have any advice on this? I need to know how to make a new window openin the same window using Flash MX (Flash MX 2004 too, i have both)right now on my website, when you click to go to a new page, it opens in separate windows so by the end of your journey through my website there are like 5 or 6 different windows open. i don't want that. so, any suggestions would be super helpful. thanks a bunch!

How To Convert An MDI Window To An External Window
Hi there,
I have successfully created an MDI window and I have a button on the title bar that should allow me to change that MDI window to an external window that a user can drag outside the browser and that external window should also have a button that would allow me to change it back into an MDI window. But the question is how do I create a flash window that resides outside the browser? I dont want a browser popup window from the browser cos there has to be interaction between that popup window and the main flash app in the browser. I know that there can be interaction between a browser popup window and the main flash app but its more difficult to implement. Basically, I just want to have a flash popup window created from the main flash app in the browser which can be dragged outside the browser. can anyone please tell me if this is possible in actionscript?? Naming Window In Pop Up Window Tutorial

In the centered pop up window tutorial it has an option for "target_winName" which i am trying to work out.

I have made a similar window that launches the html pop up from flash.everything is great except that if i press the button again it launches a second window on top whereas in the tutorial it reloads the same window.

I am trying to work out how to use the "target_winName" to have this effect.I know that i put a name in here but i don't know how to name the html pop up so the flash button can correspond.

How? Flash Links To Html Window Inside Html Window
Hi, at this site, www.jerrycantrell.com, he has flash buttons and when you click on one it changes the content in a small scroll bar window of the page but doesnt reload the whole page, this looks slick. but it is dealing with html, so this question doesnt completely have to do with flash. but i assume the linking commands in flash have most to do with this, all im able to do is change the page entirely with a link, and when i'm only changing somthing in one window its not as quick and because it reloads the whole page just for that one thing it doesnt look as slick because there's a blank white screen between loading the new page.. only for a second, but you get the just of it. anyone know how to do this? much thanks
