Flash :: Pop Up Window That Pop Up Blockers Dont Block

Pop Up Window And Popup Blockers.
HI, I've got a major problem that I need to find a way around. Obviously (due to the title of this thread) I'm looking for a way to beat popup blockers. I have a website I'm working on that when you go to, it pops my movie (basically the whole site) into a custom window. Yeah yeah, they are annoying and all that but they make designs simple and clean, so don't start on me with that argument. I'm at a total loss as to what kind of script I would need for this situation. The only site I've been to that still pops up regardless of whether or not a popup blocker is on (I have one myself) is heavy.com. Does anyone have any suggestions at all?? Thanks.

and even though I am using the normal getURL vs the javascript method (that is remmed out) on Firefox 2 for the Mac and IE 7 (for PC) I am getting
a pop-up warning/block. Anyone know why this would be?

Is there something else that I should do to prevent this? Or is this just the way things are now if you want to open an html news article from a flash movie?

Overlay Window To Block Other Buttons?
Simple example, I have a movie open that has buttons and stuff, but I then press a nav menu button that puts an overlay window over the other buttons that has it's own buttons, how can I deny the buttons under the overlay from activating ???

Script Window - Block Commenting (irritating Thing)
I'm block commenting out some of my functions.

I use the Auto Format button quite alot while I work, so I can type more quickly.

I find that every time I hit the Auto Format button, my block commented code indents by one space every time.

After ten Auto Formats my commented code is disappearing off the right side of my script window!!

Anyone found a way to avoid this?

PopUp Window Gets Blocked By Popup Blockers

I have text on the flash website that is being called from an external .txt file. The problem i'm having is that any links called from that .txt file is blocked by popup blockers upon clicking on them.

I have another popup window in the flash itself from on of the navigation buttons, and that one does not get blocked... but the ones in the .txt files do.

However with the design and the content of the flash, I really need that link to be in the .txt file.

Not really sure how i should go about resolving this.

More Pop Up Window Help (dont Say Search)
Hey all,

I have been searching these boards and google now for 45 mins trying to find just a simple pop up window.

I know everyone says search but nothing works or is just explained in a poor way i think because im doing exactly whats being asked (and i have tried many) and all i get is a javascript error.

All i want to do is click one picture and have that load in a pop up, something simple for uni but i cant work it out.

why when i try this out on my hd does it work but when i put it on the web it comes up "page cannot be found"?

is this because i need to put womething in the <HEAD> of the Html document??

have a site built in flash which is designed to pop-up into a a full scree pop up window. works on mac great of coarse but PC users have the pop-up blocker default now... anyway (actionscript) that i can get around the pop-up browers!

Is it possible to get around the pop-up blockers in IE7 and FF. I would like to open a new window from inside the flash.

Popup Blockers
I have noticed a marked increase in the use of popup Blockers/Killers and have been asked by a couple of clients to come up with a solution. These older sites popup in a full screen window but with blockers the visitor sees nothing.

Does anyone know a methodology for detecting these blockers and handling this problem.

I'm thinking of providing an alternative file to display the site centered and show all but want to detect the popup killers.

Any Ideas?

Flash 8 And Pop-up Blockers
I'm fairly new to Flash, but i have been working on the following site http://www.cuttle-mill.com but i have two outstanding issues i need to address.

The first one is how to overcome Pop-up Blockers as some people are compaining that they cannot view the site, and after one of my firends said the same thing i went around to his home and added the site as a trusted site in his Pop-up blocker, it was then viewable. Therefore, is there away to either bypass the Pop-up blocker or other wise tell the person trying to view the site, that their Pop-up blocker is stopping the site from being viewed correctly?

The second problem is how you go about trying to find out if somebody has a flash player installed when they visit the site. Can anybody tell me the best way of acheiving this or point me in the right direction of a tutorial that may assist?

Please don't be too mean to a noob, i know the site is pretty basic compared to some of the awesome sites shown here, but i've at least made a start!

Prevent Pop-up Blockers
Hi people!

I have a question concerning pop up blockers. Would I somehow be able to create something in flash, and when clicked the link opens in a new window (_blank) however, as I have it right now, some pop up blockers are preventing the new window to open. So, would I able to implement something into the code to prevent this from happening? I would really appreciate ya'll answers!

Redux: NavigateToURL & Pop-up Blockers
Searching this forum I've read a few threads on this topic, but none that resolve the issue. Is there still no way to successfully open a new window in a browser without triggering the now built-in pop-up blockers (like firefox for example).

This doesn't work:

How are we supposed to link externally, besides using htmlText? Is there a way to use the htmlText anchor event capability to trick a hidden textfield into thinking that it was clicked? I wonder why this capability is so limited..

Best Way Of Avoiding Popup Blockers?

on some machines (browsers) i seem to be getting blocked access to the forum ("feedback" button on the second page). now what's the best way to avoid this happening? i'm sure there must be a simple solution, as flash buttons that spawn new windows is a commodity these days.

if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great.

i've used JS before, but that seems even less likely to work. in that movie i've just highlighted the text and inserted a hyperlink with a "_blank" target.

seems ok in firefox, but doesn't everything. IE i'm having trouble in.

Pop Up Windows And Ad (popup) Blockers
Received feedback on my site and while the overall general consensus has been positive, most of the headache and concerns have been with the POP UP window to launch my site.

Description:
My site has a basic index.html that has a javascript "body on load" function which launches a 700x400 window that contains my flash website. See it here: www.steadyscene.com

Issue:
The issue is that pop blockers, anti virus programs are preventing the site from opening in a new launched window.

Question:
Fundamentally, what is the best way to launch a new window so that the window is not blocked?

Here is the script I am using:

Final thoughts:
Just as a observation, when I go to sites like www.callofduty.com they use a swf file (ENTER) which launches a new Window. Even with pop up blocker enabled, it allows their window to be launched. What am I missing?

Hyperlinks And Popup Blockers
A user has reported that hyperlinks with the "_blank" attribute in my flash movie are treated like a popup window by their popup blocker (SpyDoctor). I've looked around and seen various comments about how popup blockers treat Flash button clicks, but in my case it's just a text hyperlink in the Flash movie. I can't find any references to these being blocked.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Sometimes when using getURL, popup blockers (like the Google toolbar) block it. I'm using _blank with the getURL. Is there a way around this? Popup blockers shouldn't be blocking this. This is an onPress function.

Flash Popup That Gets Past The Blockers?
I want to be able to open a new window with just the SWF file in there. This is the only site I have been able to find that did that AND get past the popup blockers that I have:

I looked at the source and attempted to implement by changing variables, but it didn't work.

Does anyone know how to get past popup blockers so that the flash can load?

Hi everyone.

I am new to flash and just started creating some banners for my company and could do with a little help.

Whichever site I put them on they are always asking the users who click on them if the want to allow popups etc.

This does not happen on other flash ads on the same site.

Is this something I am doing wrong when creating the file or is it something else which I can control?

Searched for this, didn't find anything.

So, I've got this site I'm working on for a band, and the main site is all flash, one file. But I have a photo gallery and a message board that are not flash, that go along with the site.

I want the Photo gallery and message board page to open up in a new browser. So I used the getURL ("http://www.site.com/gallery/", "_blank"), which works for some computers, but the popup blockers on most computers detect it as a pop-up, and stop it from opening.

Any Ideas?

The standard method is easy, but it appears that popup blockers are thwarting the traditional window.open methods for javascript to be able to work with. Hello, I was wondeing if someone could help me out.

I created a flash website. There is a frame where I insterted actionscript to open a external .swf in a new, blank window (through behaviors "go to webpage").

The action is not dependent or linked to a button. It is only linked to the frame. I think because of this, the blank window is getting blocked by pop-up blocker software on most browsers.

How do I fix this so the new window does not get blocked?

I do not want to add the action to a button or clip because the action of the new, blank window popping up to another website is the result of an animation.

Help Trying To Bypass Pop-up Blockers In Flash Text Field
Trying to bypass pop-up blockers on a flash site. Nothing malicious, just going from a Flash interface to html so I can write to a cookie. If I try to load the page in the same window, then when you go back to the flash you are starting from the beginning which makes it rather cumbersome. I was hoping to just load a pop-up to avoid this.

Within the index.html page I have a javascript page loaded. In the .js file I have

Interactive Quicktime In Flash? Curse You Pop Up Blockers...
There are some quicktime videos that let you for instance, look around a room with your mouse. Is it possible to have an interactive quicktime like this in flash and still have it function? I can't seem to get it to work.

The only alternative is poping up an html window with the quicktime using java to size the window from flash. Which works, but unfourtunatly a lot of people have pop-up blockers so it's not very universal. Is there a way around this besides killing the inventer of annoying pop up ads which caused the invention of pop up blockers? Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.

_blank And Bypassing Popup Blockers (for Embedable Widgets)
Hey all,

I figured out why my external, embedded player wouldn't link back to my site: I was using _self rather than _blank. Because of recent Flash security changes, any cross-domain scripting like that doesn't work, which I'm sure many of you knew.

However, my next stumbling block is that any subsequent link now needs to be authorized if you are using a browser with a pop-up blocker (IE7, Firefox, etc.). What I've noticed is that YouTube has somehow completely bypassed this, and I need to figure out how.

First, check out this site for an example of my player and YouTube's player on the same page: 103.7 KISS FM - Homepage

Note in the lower-right the YouTube clip. Click that first. Notice how the pop-up blocker doesn't ask for permission? Then, beneath that is my "Comic Wonder" player. If you click on any links, it'll work, but only if you allow your pop-up blocker to allow it.

Anyone know how YouTube has bypassed that? My thoughts are

- Some sort of JavaScript going on within the ActionScript
- Some weird param is passed that I can't find in any of YouTube's "view source" code, maybe something like this: Using AllowScriptAccess to control outbound scripting from Macromedia Flash
- YouTube is "authorized" to bypass popup blockers somehow...

I could definitely use some help on this topic, as it's pretty vital to my job right now. Thanks

eg when they click on the button it downloads a jpeg from the sever..?

I've got a basic fla to scroll any clip (including a mask) with 2 buttons.

on the up button I put :

How can I stop an object from entering a certain spot on the page?

Block Characters?
IS there an easy/smart way to block characters in an input-field? I mean, if I want the user just to be able to put numbers and a separator in a field, do I have to do a huge script to check if any of the other characters are pressed?! I tried to set the field to just embed numbers but it seems only to effect wheather the font is downloaded partitially...so if any other field uses the same font with any other characters, they all can take "everything"...

Creative Block
I have been working alot of my new site(www.xsiworld.com) and Have come up with many designs over the past few months for the main ui. I simply cannot find one that looks good but still supports the content I have. I really think top navigation will look best and there are seven main buttons. I like the effect used in http://www.eightinc.com and want to use it for my portfolio site. But I can't figure out how to do it without duplicating each block with a mask of the image. This would be too cumbersome and make the movie too large.

Could anyone point me to an .fla or a tutorial that would show how to get this transtion effect? Much appreciated!

Stumbling Block
hello,

i'm having problems getting actionscript to work once i've published my file as html... although the actionscript works perfectly in 'test movie' mode, once it is published it doesn't do anything, for example it wouldn't perform:
going to a random frame (it stayed at frame 1)
showing dynamic text variables (they are just blank)
setting movie clip property to invisible (it just shifts it to the left side)
my movie is one frame long in the main timeline and is in flash 5...

Here is the architecture;
• 2 mc's on root
• 5 frame counter to load external jpegs
• counter has include on last frame to
1. load proper jpeg
2. load correct number of jpegs according outside user
3. tell correct path for url according to outside user

* Problem: The counter will not work if I change the variables from factors of 5
(5, 10, 15, 20, etc...)

Is this an MX problem anyone has encountered yet besides me, or is he include just making the script run at a certain pace, because after a certain while the images loading begin to loop out of sync.

Any insight would help, however if anyone knows what I am talking about that would be refreshing.

Log In - How To Block Right Click?
Hi!

I made a log in place on my site so you input the username and the password and when you press login it checks if they are the true ones and if they are it sends you to a given frame on which is the private page.

Now. If people can access the forward and backward options when you right click on the MC, that we'll be the easiest log in to crack in the world. By pressing forward you can go to the private page easily.

So my question is:

How to fully disable the flash right click? Or how can i block forward and backwards.

Im kinda new on the forums so please bear with me

Ive been making games for a few months now and got to do hitTests so far without any problems, Im currently making Pang from the arcade version, but sometimes when the balloons hit a certain part of the "Blocks" ie, topright it sometimes gets stuck. Is there any other variations of hitTests which I havent yet seen?

Each "Block" has a small movieclip which maps out the top,left,bottom and right of the block, so when the balloon hits these it should bounce off it, 90% of the time it does, but the rest of the time it just bounces on the spot like its stuck.

The hitTest code Im using is here, can anyone see any problems with this?
