Flash :: Popups From Flash Blocked, But Not From Html

Popups Being Blocked In IE.
Hi All,

I am using AS2.0 and SWFObject to integrate an audio player into a website. I have built a button that launches the player into a seperate window so that people can surf the site and listen to the music simultaneously. There is only one problem!! In IE the window is being block by the browser's inbuilt popup blocker. I have tested other sites that feature similar functionality and popups are not blocked!?

Has anyone experienced this issue before and do you have a workaround?

Flash Popups Blocked In Flash Players 8 And 9?
A client wants popups launched from Flash, usually getURL ("javascript:window.open...)... etc works, but now when I do this, Flash launches a security warning and asks me to change settings. This is kinda no good for users - is there a way around it?

Is Ther A Work Around To Javascript Popups Not Being Blocked?
Is there a way around the pop up blockers when using flash??? I'm using javascript in flash to create a popup window however since flash is calling the javascript to popup the window and not the click itself I was wondering if there might be a way around this???

? How To Override Blocked Popups In Firefox If The User Has Initiated The Click
Hi there-- I'm launching a Flash site that must use popups to display gallery content in new browser windows that are launched by the user.

I'm wondering if there's any combination of ActionScript and/or JavaScript that overrides popup blocking for Firefox on the PC... Technically, it's not a true "pop up" anyway if the user has willfully clicked on a link to launch it. Firefox, unfortunately treats it like unwanted content.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way to do this with code without having to inform users that they must disable popup blocking software for their user experience-- which is kind of what I'd like to avoid.

I browsed around the forums and couldn't find anything.

Code I'm using now which gets blocked (has some variables from the ActionScript in there):

My Flash In My HTML Page Gets Blocked
Hello all,

Please helpppp!!!! i'm building a really nice page in HTML and i added flash components to it. The problem is that the flash gets blocked by activeX or any other type of popup blocker.

I've tried inserting the movie manually and also publishing it so flash does the work for me. But it doesn't work. The movie keeps getting blocked!.

my webpage is a popup window which just contains a swf, no html. In it, i have a button which popups a new window with a javascript window.open. The problem is that the javascript works but then my swf becomes white and within a simple texte "[OBJECT]"
What can i do ?

Html And Popups In Flash
alright....

i'm using dynamic textboxes that read from .txt files. i can make a popup window in flash, but only with a flash button:

i was wondering if there's some html that you could use to make a popup like this in flash using the .txt file.

tell me if that doesnt make sense because i always have trouble trying to explain myself.

How To Create HTML-like Popups With Only Flash?
Hey folks.

I'm creating this flash site that contains member profiles for members our online community. My current setup has the flash buttons launching a small html popup window using javascript. The window just contains a single jpg. I would like to do this using only flash. Any ideas? Again.. all I need is the button to activate a jpg that pops up in it's own presized and closable window.

Transparent Popups Over Html?
like the ones on msn.com and other big sites that appear overtop of the content and are transparent...

can someone point me to a tutorial or an explaination of how this can be done? i'm not sure exactly what to call it so, i haven't been able to find anything.

Help With Resolution//Popups//HTML
This relates more to HTml than Flash but im hoping to integrate it.
OK, is it possible in javascript or html, to find out a user's resoulution and then adjust the screen size accordingly. What i want to do is load up a 800x600 pop up on user's screen with larger resolution than 800x600, but i want to simply want to use a full screen popup on the user's resolution 800x600 or lower.

Can anyone help, send some code, or give me a better idea. The site im working on is

Using HTML &CSS In Dynamic Fields & Popups From A Swf?
I have it set up so that when you go to my site and click on the splash page, the swf pops up in a new window. I need to be able to pop up certain size windows from links within my swf but it doesnt seem to be working. If I try using javascript it either opens in the same window as my swf or doesnt do anything. I need a new window to appear on top which can be a specified size. Any ideas how to make this possible?

I've got one html file (index) which opens up main.swf. There are several buttons in this file that link to different .swf's. Each different swf has two buttons in it which open popUp windows. by putting this code on my button-

I've tried addng the name of the individual popUPs to the button code but then i get an error message.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

HTML/JS: Popup Windows And Non Popups
I have two windows on the screen. page1 (main page) and page 2 (pop up)

objective:
The popup will contain lists of names...
When the user click on a name, it will load data to the main page...the main page will become active.... but the popup will still remian in front of the screen

I have dynamic textbox's that load html text with links; however when you click the links they open in the same window not in a new blank window. I need to have this changed. Thanks a lot for this help.

Blocked Flash
Hello,

a friend of mine, who works as a web developer and has many clients, told me that a lot of big companies block flash movies from being viewed on their corporate computers. So he adviced me not to have any flash on my site if I'm planning on sending it to such organizations... is that true? if so, does anyone know why would that be?

É have made a small movie in flash and i have imported it in Dremweaver but when i preview it in IE the browser blocks the movie(deu to safety setting of the program).É dont want my viewers to have to change their IE settings to view the movie so what can i do?

I am developing a generic homepage banner application in flash. However some of the client viewers have flash blocked by firewalls.

I would like to subsequently display an image instead of the flash file. Chances are they will have the flash player installed.

Is there an elegant / automatic way of accomplishing this, or is it a case of heres a link, if you cant see flash click here for the dull version.

I'm new to webdesign and I'm trying to use flash animation on my site. The problem is everytime I load the site the flash is blocked by internet explorer saying it's blocking activex. This doesn't happen when I load other sites with flash animation, how do I set mine up so users who go to the site don't get blocked? Please help!

Flash Emails That Arent Blocked?
I am trying to create a flash email that is not blocked by Norton or Firewall software. I am not embedding the flash file into the email, but loading it into the HTML email while the user is looking at it.. I am fairly sure there is a way to do this.. does anyone know how? I am not a psycho-spammer by the way!!

I am a newbie here. Let me make it short. I wanted to put my flash menu online in my index.html page. But somehome IE blocked it as Active contents until i have to allow it by clicking the bar at the top of the window.
However, when i put the highlighted comments (shown below), IE didn't block it anymore. I wanna find out why it is happening and i have been to almost every forum threads here and I didn't find the exact reason here.

Flash Files Blocked By Corporations?
One of the subscribers to our flash based audio player informed us that his company (a large multinational) blocks them from executing flash files at work.

We went with Flash because of its broad "default" installation base across browsers and to avoid being blocked out by security issues (real or perceived) of things like ActiveX.

Anybody else heard of this happening? Is this a new security "trend"?

Flash Content Blocked When Viewing Offline In IE 6
After installing SP2 for Win XP, I get the following message when I try to view a web page offline with Flash content:

"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..."

I can view pages online with Flash content without problem. I can't find a security setting to solve this. Anyone have any ideas?

HELP Why Is My Published Flash File Causing Cookies To Be Blocked?
Hey guys. I have published a test flash site, and for some reason, even though I only have Medium level Security and Privacy settings, and even though many other flash files work just fine, my movie is causing IE to block cookies (I didnt know I was using any cookies unless flash automatically assigns some. It's just a simple flash site, no application/cookie data)...is there a security setting in the Flash file preferences or the publish settings that I need to disable in order for it to load up without having IE try to block it?

All Flash Apps Blocked? A <policy-file-request> Question
I am at my wits end trying to get answer to a question.

According to http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashpla...ity_print.html

* A SWF file may no longer make a socket connection to its own domain without a socket policy file. Prior to version 9,0,115,0, a SWF file was permitted to make socket connections to ports 1024 or greater in its own domain without a policy file.
* HTTP policy files may no longer be used to authorize socket connections. Prior to version 9,0,115,0, an HTTP policy file, served from the master location of /crossdomain.xml on port 80, could be used to authorize a socket connection to any port 1024 or greater on the same host.

So with the tighter security measures, a policy file has to be fetched on port 843 or on the same port on which a connection is desired. That leads to another problem. The policy file request made by the player has a simple format: clear text <policy-file-request/> is sent as raw data bytes on the ports.

As most firewalls (specially application firewalls) block such raw data traffic (of unknown protocols) on all the ports, this means that the policy file fetch will almost always fail if the user is behind any firewall.

This will render all SWFs, that do not use ports 80/443/25, unusable. Does anyone know what is the solution to this problem? Is there a way to get the crossdomain file if <policy-file-request /> is blocked?

Popups With Flash MX Help
Whats up fellas..
Look i need some help. I've made a website in flash and the links to pictures that i have, when someone clicks on the thumbnail i want a pop up to come up with the full size picture.. i don't know how to do that.....Also i'd like to link several short animations (4seconds or so) to the page, also through popups.. their in quicktime format... Help me please guys.. this is my first post on this site, hopefully you guys can give me some good advice...

Hi all, im new here & would love if some1 could help with this question, i wanna do a bit of flash for a website, the website is gonna have an index page with a map of a city & i would love to do it like the Universal Studios website has done theirs, that when u pick a part of the map it pops up with a little bit of info on that part of the map. Popups Via Flash
Can anyone out there help me with my pop-ups - simply thing i thought untill I came across the problem or making for both platforms PC 7 MAc, I'm a MAC operator and before you say I know... the problem is that my pop-ups are not working on everyone's Pc's, all the new ones seem to bring them up, but on the clients Pc it doesnt arrrgghhhhhh!

But it only works in Firefox and not in the ghastly IE - I really need this to work for one of my clients to sign off so any help or a way around it much appreciated!

Flash 8 Popups
I'm trying to make some links in a full flash site done in flash 8 pop up in new html windows at a set size. My code works fine if I publish to older versions of flash, but not to version 8. I think they changed something for security reasons. Does anyone know of a workaround? Here's the code that I had been using previously:

Hello, I am currently building a website (http://www.texzibit.8k.com/web1.html). I want to have a section where, if you click on a link (in flash) it will provide a popup of that specified link. the weird flash popup maximizes as the mouse pointer moves onto it and gets normal when we rollout r mouse from it , best part i liked is that it works on a page containing framesets .

well not actually popups as they grow big and short on the same window . i hope u people can understand what i m talking about .

so is it some difficult HTML or ASP or DHTML thing .

Help Will be appreciated .

Flash, Frames & Popups
Hi ppl
I have the main site default.php with lot of frames.

one frame is named corner, which contains a text link
one frame is named flash, which contains a button in flash

both, the text link and the flash button open THE SAME POPUP

There's another text link in the popup which calls this JS function
openinparent('web.htm')

window.opener.window.top.frames.corner.location=we bsite;
}

When i open the popup from flash button and click the link (that is in the popup website) the web.htm does not change in the corner frame, but when i open the popup from the text link frame, it does.

any ideas?

by
window.open(website,"corner"); and i had the same response, the same behaviour...

Maybe something becomes NULL when i open the popup from flash...

Flash Popups With Variables
I`m trying to open a popup window from flash and the URL is coming from a variable but the normal script i used doesnt seem to work at all ..

this is the JavaScript I have in the HTML page:

and this is the getURL() function in flash:

the variable "_root.fly" comes from another action in the movie and it opens a window if i used the normal getURL(url,target) ...

Does anyone know how to create those annoying but cool transparent flash popup ads that you can often see popping up over the top of sites such as getmusic.com, and from what i can remember shockwave.com? I can't figure out how they have managed to create an swf file that doesn't have the frame of the flash player around it. If anyone knows how please help! Thanx

I was just wondering why alot of people (especially the folks here) have their main interface in a popup window, full screen or not. I am currently starting a flash site, and this popup trend isn't making any sense to me...

OK, I have been away from Flash for a little while now, and even when I was developing heavily in it I never used pop-up windows. I have recently run into a situation where I need them. Am I really so horribly behind that I missed the fact that Pop-Ups just don't work from flash anymore if the user has an active blocker? Is there a way to make the browser register the onClick and not block it if the user clicks it?

I have a flash intro movie being loaded in a new window of fixed width ontop of the current (the one the user clicks from)
here is my script for that:
