[CS3] Howto: Add A Link Layer On Top Of An Animation?
Hi flashers,

I can make basic animations in flash, but have no clue about Action Scripting or anything interactive.
I hope posting here is ok, since it I think my question is about the scripting part.

I created a very simple fade in/fade out animation. Please have a quick look:

What I want is link this animation to a .htm page.

It seems so simple, yet I couldn't figure it out, even after following the description of a video tutorial!! There must be a thinking mistake on my side.

I have three layers, every logo on another layer.
I thought I add up an additional layer with a transparent shape (Alpha 0%, which I convert into a button, so I can add a link).

Now when I click on this button (named "link), and open the Actions tab, first of all it shows me "Actionscript 3.0" as default, and that I cannot use any action to the current selection.

As next step I changed the to "Actionscript 1.0 & 2.0" in the pulldown menu, but than the "getURL" command is INACTIVE!

To test, I went ahead and created a new file, in which I added one layer in which I put a square shape, converted it to a button, selected the button, opened "Actions", and the same: getURL is inactive.

This is the method that is explained in tutorials that explain how to add a link to a button.

What is my problem here?

Howto: Movie Clip Acting As A Button Plays Out Animation And Then Goes To Content
Ok I've got a problem. I would like to have flash movie and it plays to a stop on the main time line.
Then interface comes up. The interface is made of movie clips acting as buttons.
I would like to some how get it when you click on a button it jumps to frame in the main timeline playing an out animation for the homepage content. But here is the tricky part for me I would like to get it 2 play the content connted with the button after the out animation is played.
So to give a very short example:

Press the movie clip acting as a button > it then jumps to the frame of the start of the out animation > out animation plays > depeding on the button u pushed that content comes up. so if they click the resume button after the out animation on the home page the resume page comes up.

Sry I know question was very long winded and not well phrased but I do really need some help on how 2 do this

Preload Swf With Animation
Hello everybody,

Well here is the case...

I have a Main scene with an frame-based animation that lasts 8sec. Right after it finishes i load a new swf with animation over the old one.

What i want to achieve is: preload the second one while the first is still playing (too much time to get wasted),
and start the new animation right after the first.

If i load it with loadMovie("test.swf", test_mc); Then it loads and starts to play immediately...

Is there anyway to hold the animation untill the 1st has finished?

[FMX] Preload Animation
Ok, dam, now I have a problem. My transition element is working fine, until the doors close. The animation that I have over the CLOSED transition element moves reallllll slow, even tho the fps on the page is 60 (yea, i know its fast). When the doors open, it still moves slowly, until you click on another button, where it repeats. Going up the doors are fine, it's only while waiting for the swf to load, and when opening. Any suggestions?

The Right Way To Preload A Large Animation
I have a pretty large animation that is pretty much made up of three sections (each ranging from 100k - 300k). My question is what is the correct way to preload an animation like this? Should I Load the entire SWF and then play the animation? Or should I divide this animation into three different SWF's and preload them Sequentially? Or is there a better way I haven't mentioned?

Also, could someone point me to a good preloader I can use that will allow me to achieve any of these methods?

LoadMovie, Preload Animation Stops
This has probably been asked and answered zillion times here, but I cannot seem to find the best answer. I have a main swf, which has an animation that I want to show everytime I'm loading new swf to _level1. I load 5 swf at the same time to 5 different movie clips. The preload animation stops (stucks) for this loading time. Can anyone say why?

Blank Preload Animation Loop
i'm trying to make a simple preloader w/ a looping movie to play during the preload. Unforunately the looping movie doesn't seem to play when loading the movie. the movie will be blank and won't play the loop until the whole movie is loaded. the preload loop is keyed 'til frame 3 then is faded out.
I'm quite confused.
Here's my script:

frame 1:

Preload Animation Problem With Netscape
Netscape displays the first frame of my preload animation when the frames are already loaded. Is there a work around for this? I'm using if (_framesloaded>=_totalframes) gotoandplay(5);

Can't Preload And Sync Animation And Music
Hello,

This is what I have:

1. A preloader in frame 1 which loads the animation and background music (dynamic mp3), all located in frame 2 (frame label name is "intro")

This is what I would like to do:

1. Play the animation and background music together (dynamic mp3) once the preloading is complete.

My problem is this:

1. My animation starts playing before the dynamic mp3 is loaded.

Question:

How can I get the animation and the dynamic mp3 to play at the same time? Or how can I make sure the dynamic mp3 is preloaded before the animation starts playing?

Note:

1. Currently the preloader is in the 1st frame of my movie.

Stopping Preload Animation At Certain Time
Hey guys!
I have a movie which preloads a quick animation (another swf & it is a loop) which is watched while the main movie loads.  After the quick animation loads, my AS begins to load another swf, which is the main movie.  When the main movie is completed loading, I unload it so that it does not show on the screen, however it is in the cache, so when I want to call it is is already loaded.

Therefore, at this point my preloading animation is still playing.  What I want to do is that when the main movie finishes loading, it basically waits for the preloading animation to reach frame 1.  When this occurs, I want the preloading animation to stop at frame 1, & then have my main movie appear.  HOw do I do this?

Everything works considering the loading of both movies & playing of both, however, how do I make my main movie "wait" until my preloading animation reaches frame 1?

And then if I do that.. if my preloading animation reaches frame 1, how do I load my main movie at that time, while unloading my preanimation movie.

I hope this makes sense.

Sound Loads Before Preload Animation/Help
Hi there!
I'm developing a website with sound objects controled by action script using new Sound(); attachSound(). I noticed that, even if I define the sound object in the 10th frame, the sounds are loaded in the first frame and the movie don't play until it is done. I have an animated preload insite a movieclip in the first frame. But it don't load before the sounds. I would like that, while the sounds are loading, the preload would play.
Do any one have an idea of what could I do?

Preload Animation Slowdown - Loads Too Fast HELP
Hey everyone - I just searched through 16 pages here of preload questions. I'm FINE with preloading - it's great!

My odd request is:

I have an animation of a bar filling up from 1% to 100% based on the bytes loaded of an externally loading swf into a movie clip on the main movie

This looks GREAT on slow connection speeds - however on fast connections or when the swf is cached you don't see the progress bar animate at ALL! It just shoots straight to 100%

HOW do I SLOW THIS DOWN???

I want it to always animate - but be slightly faster on faster connections however still retain a true 'preloader' status by actually preloading the swf files.

So far - NO ONE I've asked - e-mailed - or looked at on these boards can answer this.

Can YOU???

Of course, I connect to a mysql table with the fields for username, password and redirect address.

Now, my problem is how to get this connected in flash. I've put a 'input text' element in my flash movie, for the username. I called it 'username', but I don't know if I have to write this into the 'var' field of the properties for this element. Then I inserted another 'input text' element and called it 'password'. Finally I put a button and called it 'redir'. That is as far as I got.
I am confused because I dont see any form. Maybe my whole aproach is wrong ?....I've seen that I can put the php script name as loadVariablesNum , however this comes from an flash email tutorial and I'm not sure if it applies - anyway I think the main problem is haow ro pass the values from the input text fields to the php script...(just gessing though)

Can anybody help me out of my blindness?

Preload Madness - Preload Movies Clip In A Movie?
hey people... a brought up this subject here a while back but it didn't really go anywhere... now that this sections seems to be a bit more lively perhaps some of you flashers can help me out... I am going to break this down very simple... I haven’t even storyboarded this so this is an extremely rough draft of the idea

I am building a photo gallery

this gallery has eight images which range from 30k-75k (roughly) so I don't want the user to wait for a full load of 240k-600k

I want to first load the thumbnails for the images... and then begin to preload the first image directly after that... then display it

and then from that point when the user clicks a thumbnail the corresponding full image will preload and then display

basicially this is about preloading a movieclip in a movie... I jsut can't wrap my head this... so I will ask for help before I get too deep.... any input on the basics of this idea would be appreciated

to make a project. I followed some tutorials, checked some
samples and managed to get a grip on actionscript also.

I have a problem that regards my backgroud as a OOP programmer
and the fruststrations I get working with the MX environment
I find it very hard to manage, specially if you have lots of

Reservation Layout - Howto
Hello, I'm a newbe and wasn't sure where to post on this list.

I'm wanting to build a basic actionscript reservation table/chair layout.

The idea is that an event id as a flashvar is sent to a swf. This will then query the database for the layout configuration. This will include the background, amount of tables, each table shape and the amount of chairs.

There are not to many different setups but the tables and chair count will alter.

Each chair will be either free, pending or reserved.
Users will be able to click on a chair and it'll change to a different colour.

The user then can press a button and it'll submit the chairs they are interested in and the php system will organise the rest.. flash is only being used for the layout/positioning of chairs.

There will be around 10 tables max and 6-8chairs per table.

I have been looking for example of this system but have been without any luck. If somebody has some advice, examples or even a working script please be in contact.

HowTo Goto The Top Of New Page?
It's simple to go to a new frame using gotoAndPlay(frame), the problem is that it opens at the same hight of the frame that the button was, and I want it to open at the TOP of the page. How can I do that?

AS Newbie Howto..? And Hello To All On The Board
I'm new to the forum and Action Script, however I am not new to programming. I have daveled a little with C++, Java, Java script, and a lot with HTML. I've built and published 3 sites now (freelance only), and I really think I want to get into web building on a regular basis. The economy is crap right now and no one wants to spend money on pimping their rides in my area so that leaves me with no creative outlet.

To make a long story short, I quit my job 3 weeks ago and have been doing nothing but learning flash. I've never taken on vector drawing so it was a bit of a challenge, however, I believe that I more or less have the hang of it now.

This leads me to the AS. I'm trying to build a website to showcase my abilities entrirely in flash. Well I have a normal looking left side navigation panel with buttons on it and I want an additional panels (I have 3 total, to expand the options of the button) to slide out from under the top one when the mouse goes over certain buttons. The sliding panels I made into symbols and the top navi pane is also a separate symbol. For the button I inputted the following AS code...

All of the sliding panes slide out. I only want a specific pane to slide with a specific button rollover. I know that the this. syntax is referencing the entire document and that is why all of the panes are sliding out however I am not familiar enough with AS syntax to apply the code to specific symbol instance I want the action to apply to.

Any help would be apprecieated.

Howto Check If Alert Is Up
Im using setInterval to check for data from amfphp.
It checks data correctly but is get a lot of alert windows up if im not clicking Ok.

I want to know how do i check if alert window already is up, and if it is, it wont publish anymore of them.

Howto Authenticate Publishers
Hi, i run the FMS under linux and want to authentify the publishers which connect to the server. Otherwise every person on the world could use the server to stream his content. The installation of the plugin seemed to be successful (the install-script ran without problems).
I added a user using the "users" script in the conf-Dir, but when I connect with the FME it doesn't prompt for a password, but connects silently. So I assume there is no authentication.
Do I have to activate the authentication somewhere? Is there a howto which shows exactly how to enable publisher authentication?
I am a bit dissapointed that a program which costs so much money doesn't have something so elemental like authentication builtin. And so far i couldn't find any useful information about using the plugin.

I am fairly new to flash development and love this site. Lot's of awesome toots and great discussion. But I have a simple question.

How do you embedd fonts in Flash MX 2004. I'm developing a site currently but other sites I've tried in the past look like garbage in other browsers on other platforms due to the lack of font embedding.

Can Someone Show Me Howto(collision)
Using only actionscript

create 2 balls next to each other (same _y) (this part is easy)
have a 3rd ball come from below (easy again)
and hit somewhere in the middle of the two balls
and have the 2 balls get pushed aside to make room for the new ball(the 3rd ball kinda wedges its self into the middle without overlapping either ball)

I imagine its something that will take a lil time to do...I been trying to get it

but i have a really hard time getting objects to act like solid objects
