Controlpane, Tutorial Or Help Needed
I'm preparing a site with technical data for various products, but sometime the number of columns in a table is too big that I've decided to draw it in .jpeg, convert it in a movieclip and let it scroll orizzontally in a controlpane. problem is, I don't know how to use it; the help of flash is a little too generic and I really don't understand how does it works; all I know is that only movieclips can scroll inside a controlpane, but how can I put my clip inside it? any help is hugely appreciated!
Flash 8 Tutorial Needed
Ok, heres the deal.
There's a community project happening on a message board that I am a regular at, and a sort of birthday card is being made for a member. People can come and contribute art and stuff to go on this big picture, and it was suggested that writers should be able to contribute their stuff too. But of course, writers can't just throw their pieces all over this picture. I thought that I could contribute by turning this picture into an interactive flash thingy, and put little bits of paper over the room and make them clickable so you can zoom in and read them.
I have Flash 8, but really, I don't know the first thing about it. So lets just say I'd have the main image, and probably the wee bits of paper in separate layers.
Where would I go from here?

FLAP Tutorial Needed
Anyone know where I can find a good tutorial on using the FLAP, Flash Remoting in PERL. I'm new to flash remoting, but not to PERL, and really don't want to learn PHP yet. There seems to be alot out there for the AMF-PHP version, but every link I find for AMF-PERL brings me back to the site where I downloaded it in the first place, http://www.simonf.com/flap/, and those tutorials although useful are not so complete.

I'm having an issue with the 'How to Fire' tutorial on Kirupa. I have quadruple checked my syntax and all that but I can't find the reason for the problem.
I only seem to be able to fire one bullet at a time, when I fire another, the first one disappears. I've attached my FLA to look at.
The movement/fire actions are on the plane, the bullet actions are well..... on the bullet!

Help Executing A Tutorial Needed
I've been trying to follow this tutorial (http://www.lashf.com/page/basic/running_circles_effect), but as I'm new to Flash I'm having some problems. I think it's because in action script 3 you can't ad an actionscript to a movieclip? Is this correct? and if so how do I get around that?
I've figured out how to get the circle to move and fade, it's just the rest of it that doesn't seem to work.
Any help would be appreciated. (I have Flash CS3)

Ok, Im totally new at this. I have been learning flash MX for a few months now, and I have just enough skill to make a basic site with multiple scenes, and Buttons that play Mp3's, etc.
I am also familiar with all the basic tweens, and animation tacktics
Anyway. I want to create a text effect, where my text is written 'live' onto the screen, ala Matrix (lol). Example:: I am after the basic effect that you would get from using Flashtyper, if it worked
Can anyone point me to s script for this, or a basic tutorial that can help me??
All the tutorials I have found so far are either for flash 4 or are way over my head..

Look at the example.
The effect I am wanting to know how to do is that image transition that looks like a set of horizontal blinds transitioning to the next image.
Of course, I would want to set a series of images (and be able to change it at will).

Actionscript/tutorial Needed For Buttons
Hey!
Does anyone have an actionscript or tutorial for an effect on buttons with the following description?:
There is a row of buttons on a page that is rolled over and when the cursor is on one button, it magnifies that one button larger than the others, but the surrounding buttons are also raised slightly. When you roll over them from one side to the other, it looks like a wave rolling.
You know what I'm talking about?
You can see what I am referring to at www.mandchou.com (see the buttons along the bottom of the homepage) and also on MACs with their selection menu.
I would really appreciate some help with this as it is pretty urgent.

When I use Voetsjoeba's (I hope I spelt that right) Transitions tutorial and follow all the instructions (far as I can tell) i get a code error message that says:

This is in the .swf to be loaded, not the site with the butons and stuff.

Firstly I just wanted to say thanks for writing the tutorial "Create a Photo Gallery". I found it very helpful, but I have a small problem which I cant seem to figure out a solution to. I'm sure its something simple, but if someone could help that would be much appreciated.
Basically I wanted to create a flash artefact which contains multiple gallerys like the one shown in the tutorial. Each one works on its own, but when I use multiple galleries together only the last one works.

I have given one movie clip the instance name "photo1" and the other "photo2"... both work individually, but not together.

basically for my website in my main fla, i have some buttons which when pressed work fine, however i have one button which is a mc as it is a sub menu buton, this does not work like the others, i no this is because the others are buttons and this is a MC, so i wanted to ask anyone, what i need to change in the following AS which is for a button to make it work for a MC?

Help Desperately Needed On Show Tutorial
So I'm following this tutorial: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/photogallery.htm
I've run into a number of problems and eventually gotten around them, but this time I'm at the end of my rope. My presentation is a slideshow format, one on of my embedded slides I'd like to put the slideshow mentioned in this tutorial. I have the photos, and a few times I've made the slideshow work on a practice fla document. But when I try to integrate it into the actual project I keep having problems. I'm using the same code, same pictures, saving it in the same spot, and yet when I test the movie I get a "NaN" error message on my output screen.
Now the text itself is contextually sound according to the checker, and although I feel this is probably easily fixed, I've done this probably 20 time and I can't figure out what the difference is between the shows that work and the shows that don't. Could it have something to do with trying to display this show on an embedded slide? Evidently "NaN" means not a number, but I can't figure out what that would refer to, not the code because it doesn't show up on the working presentations.
I've got a huge deadline coming up and I'm desperate. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or need any more information, I'll gladly provide it.

Help With Full-site Tutorial Needed...
I downloaded the full-site tutorial folder, and noticed that the icons for the external swf. look differen't than the icons of the swf's I exported from FlashMX to Dreamweaver. Is there an explanation for that?
I made a movie following all the steps in the tutorial, using my own images, and I just can't get it to work in Dreamweaver!
All the files are in the same map: swf., html., and fla. I've been working on this for days and even though I followed the tutorial very carefuly.....
Well, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Tutorial Needed For Geometry Issues
Okay, so I started to make a tutorial because I thought it would be interesting to script the geometry behind it. The basic goal of the tutorial would be to have a rectangle on the stage labeled "FOCUS" and another on the stage labeled "DEST". on the Horiz and Vert axes of each would be measurement marks , this.getNextHighestDepth()ers depicting their height/width.
Then you could resize the width/height of each box and have a bunch of info readout on the bottom of the screen.
The reason I need this is because I am trying to scale a series of images to fit within a box and I'll be (insert mild expletive) if I can't figure it out without a bunch of shaky conditional statements.
The reason is there are too many possibilities for scaling constraints:
types of scale:
proportional scale,
nonproportional scale
scale constraints:
match widths
match heights
other issues:
scale to minimum
scale to maximum
I should be able to do the math to figure out how to do this dynamically, but I could use some help. Any takers?

Tutorial Needed, Complex Button In Flash MX
I need to create a button that will only activate at a certain time, here is the scenario...
Say for example you have a ten frame animation that is looping round and round. In this animation there is a button saying 'onMouseDown goto Frame 11'. Everything is fine so far, but if someone clicks on the button in the middle of the animation, say on frame 4, there will be a jump between frame 4 and 11. I want to know if there is a way of telling the button to goto frame 11, but not before it has gone to the end of the loop at frame 10.

I'm looking for a tutorial that explains how to create a container that loads .swf movies and has interactivity built into it that enables the user to control playback .(i.e. skipping to next .swf file, scrubbing through currently loaded .swf file, volume adjustment, etc.)
I've worked with projects like this before, but since they were built by someone else it's been difficult to understand how they set them up. I'd like to make one from scratch so that I understand all the elements that go into making it work.

I have searched google and quite a few flash forums including here. I am looking to build a custom text editor in flash but I have no idea how to do this. I am looking for Action Script 3 AND AS2 based tutorials on how to create a text processor completely in flash.
I have found some FLA's that people have created but unfortunatly they are NOT documented and I do not really understand what all they are doing and quite a few of the features I have no desire to duplicate in mine.
I need a in depth tutorial that fully explains the process and the code. I am familiar with AS and can code ok but it has been a while and I need a really solid tutorial that makes the process clear.

I used this tutorial to make a nice menu. I got some ideas by searching this forum. Finally came up with this (check the attached .fla) ...
Allright, now umm...its really hard to explain. But i gotta explain this.
Please Check the attached fla to get the idea of what I am talking here. You will notice that there are 3 buttons in the MAIN MENU. 1) Home 2) News 3) Forums.
For the SUBMENU : I put 3 more buttons inside the forums_mc (look in the library) on frame 61. The buttons are 1) EXT MC 1 , 2) EXT MC 2, 3) EXT MC 3. I want to use these buttons to load external swf. I want to use the same logic used in the transition tutorial to make the intro and outro transitions. In addition to that, if I press any button on the MAIN MENU, the externally loaded swf should play outro transition and also collapse the SUBMENU. BUT (this is important) , if I press any button in the SUB MENU (like the button EXT MC 2) , then outro transition should play in the ext swf, but the SUB MENU SHOULD NOT PLAY THE OUTRO ANIMATION (which we want to do, when pressing any button on MAIN MENU).
Also the externally loaded swf should load in the emptycontainer movieclip inside the FORUMS_MC clip.
So, got any ideas how to do this ??? Please look the attached files. The above discription will only make sense if you see the .fla and other files attached.
I tried my best to do this, but could not succeed. Also, i asked many friends, but they are not able to do this...I am pretty sure that Masters like POM and Voetsjoeba, scotty and many others will be able to solve this problem. I think its pretty easy for you guys

Everything is fine so far, but if someone clicks on the button in the middle of the animation, say on frame 4, there will be a jump between frame 4 and 11. I want to know if there is a way of telling the button to goto frame 11, but not before it has gone to the end of the loop at frame 10.
