Javascript - How To Change Scrollbars Into Image Scrollbars
Hello. How do you change the html scrollbar (the one that you see in the far right of your browser) with your own images? I know it's possible because i've seen it before. Thanks.

P.S.: I am aware of and I know how to change the color of the scrollbar. That is not what's expected. Also i think it's made possible by Javascript.

Hi,

I am developing a chat application, in which i got a problem with scrollbars. what i am trying to do is, there are two text boxes one is a input textbox, where v type msgs...another one is dynamictextbox, where all the chatting content is to be displayed. The problem with this is, i am not able to scroll the content in the dynamic text area. I have used MX component for dummy text area in which the dynamic text area is initialised with some content.

does this scroll bars work only when we initialise the text area ?
then what about in my case ? as i am dynamically adding text to it, then how can i scroll it ?

u got it ? what im talking abt ?

I just want to create a window something like yahoo Instant Message window..my problem is, i dont know how to create that text area with scrollbars...upon receving/sending messages...it shud add those msgs and accordingly the scrolling shud happen.thats all..

i was wondering how i would design scrollbars and pop-ups within flash to use on a website.
pop-ups i would like for picture enlargements

other things i'm not sure on are:
forms in flash.
i would like to use forms for a forum type page, if not possible in flash, could someone tell me how to do it in HTML, coz i really cannot be doing with getting a free on and having banners and pop-ups all over the place.
and one more thing, a mailing list form. where a person will enter their email address in a box and when the submit button is pressed a box appears saying 'thank you, please check your mail for a conformation' or something along those lines, with a standard layout email being sent to the address.

i will be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Need Scrollbars In The SWF
Guys, I load an external swf in the container by clicking on the button. The external swf is bigger than the container, i want the scrollbars or buttons (work like scroll bars) so that i can see or read the bigger swf.

I haven't been able to find a flashkit tutorial that explains how you can make it scoll continuously when you click on the scroll button. If it helps, my scrollbar is custom made because the default one is ugly and doesn't match my site. Can someone please help? Thanks.

Hi,

I have used one of those adobe photo gallaries. The gallary uses javascript and Flash to view images. It works fine, but I can't scroll down the page eventhough it's long. So the bottom of each image doesn't appear.

Is there any way I can do to enable scrollbars? (javascript!!)

I tried to attach a scrollbar to a movie clip which contains images where in they can scroll it down to see more. But I have an error which says something like scrollbars aint for movieclips but for textfields. I tried to search the Web but I couldnt find any help. I am wondering about scrollbars.. When I publish a normal movie with html in flash 2004 pro, it doesnt have a scrollbar on pc's! I have tried IE and Firefox, but to no good, I made it on a mac and a scrollbar shows up on the mac.. Any ideas? Also I heard that it should be possible to change the colour of the scrollbar, how is this done?

Newbie here,
I have been hacking my way through a website design using Flash CS3 and Actionscripts 3.0 and have hit a stumbling block.

I have used a instance of the UIScrollbar component attached to the right side of a dynamic text block. Locally it works in IE but when I view the page via Safari or Firefox web browsers my scrollbars do not work. You can see the scrollbar without the slider and use page up/down.

When uploaded IE works about half the time but Safari and Firefox will not activate the slider.

Is there something I need to add to my flash file to make the scrollbar work properly? if you go to http://www.photoesque.com/index_new.html, click on portraits then information you can get an idea of what I am asking about.

Allright, i've tried the search but no solutions just yet.

I've made an index.html that has a link in it. When you click it, it opens up another page containing a .swf to fullscreen. The only problem is that I still see a (faded) scrollbar to my right side. How is that possible?

This is in the <HEAD> of my index.html:

Using Scrollbars
I am currently working on something like a shopping cart which loads products dynamycally (the images of them). At the moment, I have 6 empty movieclips on stage, and upto 6 different images are loaded in them. There is only space for 6 images on that part of the screen. Houw do I make it so that any number of images can be loaded into that part of the screen using a scrollbar?
I would like the first six images to be visible, and the others become visible when scrolled down.

I hope this isn't to hard.

Hi everyone,

I'm facing problems with the standalone Scrollbar Component (Flash MX)..
I need to load some external file (txt) with a variable called "mainTxt" within it. This variable has several lines of text.
I've used loadVariables to get this stuff into my flash file. And also linked it to my textField (multiline, instance name: text01, var: mainTxt).
Then I used the scrollBar component released by Macromedia in version MX, linked to my textField (text01).

Results:
My txt variable is loaded successfully in my 'text01' textField. But the scrollBar goes disabled and I cannot use it to scroll my text.


Additional xp:
I've escaped the external file process. So I included my 'mainTxt' content directly into my textField 'text01' - in my fla archive. Than it worked perfectly. textField, Scrollbar... everything.

Hi,

I'm new to AS and apologize in advance for the newbie-ness of this question.

I am using Flash 8 Pro and want to change the color of my UIScrollBar instance to be transparent. I don't want to do a global change. This is attached to a dynamic text box in a swf that loads to another swf.

I've come across this code on this forum:

instanceName.setStyle("backgroundColor", "0x996666");
instanceName.setStyle("color", "0xFFFFFF");

but am clueless about where it shouold go. I've tried an onClip event on the instance and the Actions frame of the .fla without success.

Also, I know that hexadecimal colors are RGB but Adobe has a way to specify transparency in Flash by using: 0xFF000000.

Any and all help is greatly aprreciated,

HELP Scrollbars
Hi...I have been working on a flash website that seems to be having issues with scrollbars. Sometimes the scrollbars scroll, sometimes they don't. It seem to happen if it's the first scrollbar you come across. I don't get why it doesn't scroll, because I've associated the text field with the scrollbar, so theoretically it should scroll properly all the time right? A contributor to this site named Patrick Mineault posted 2 tutorials a while back, one of which was exactly what I needed to add scrollbars to a project I'm doing. What he posted, however, didn't work when I tested it and he hasn't answered my e-mail nor responded to my post above.

Does anyone know of a tutorial out there that will emulate a Windows-esque scrollbar w/ up down arrows, preferably like Patrick's example below? I'm in dire need of this really soon. Thanks!!

Ok, so I got the Flash 5 code for a predefined pop-up window!

Scrollbars- More Than One In A Movie?
Is it possible to have more than one scrollbar in one movie.

Problem: I create a site and then the client added more content to some pages in the site. The amount of text will not fit on the current pages, so I need a scrollbar. There is about three pages that need the scrollbar. The pages were created on one layer. I was told I could have only one scrollbar per movie.

Can I have more than one and if so what is the easiest way to proceed???

I have created a movie with several dynamic textfields that load external textfiles into my movie. The scrollbars that control the textfileds behave very iraaticly. They work on one click, they don't work on the next. It's very strange!

Second, I have a textfield on my site right when you go to the site that comes up with the news and all that but I have buttons also on my page and I want every time a button is clicked in opens that buttons information in the textfied sort of like using inline frames in html. I hope some one can explain this well and tell me what to do cause I'm lost otherwise and I really like my site idea and I can't finish it with out this...Please help.

Ok. What I want to do is display a bunch of text in a scrollable box. Easy, right? I wish.
This text will be changing every time the flash movie is used since it will be taking information from a database and plugging it in. Now, I first tried using a dynamic text box, which would display the text fine, but only the first part of it. I could highlight it, though, and read the rest at the bottom, though. So, I dragged in a scrollbar just as a tutorial somewhere showed and it didn't work. I tried the setEnabled() function and setProperties() function but neither worked. It just sat there greyed out. It was pointing to the text box and everything alright, but it just won't work.
I then tried using a scrollpane but I haven't the slightest clue as to how to display text in one of those things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If it makes any difference, when I had the dynamic text box I was displaying the text like so:
myTextBox="text text
";
myTextBox+="text text
";
etc.
