What's Up With Mac Projectors?
I created a Mac projector (the hqx file) and it didn't work on my clients computer (running OS 9). What gives? He had to download Stuffit Expander to play it? Is this typical? I'm not familiar with Macs. Someone please explain!?

Yea, I know, this has been asked before. But I find that there is far too much gray area with how these projector files work on either plateform (pc and mac) on CD.

Ok, I have a CD project going right now. It's actually quite elaborate. In order to update it bi-weekly, I have made several swf files to load (loadMovie function) into the main projector movie. Each of these submovies have submovies. So, as you're probably guessing, there tends to be a lot of files for one full project, and the use of subfolders is a necessity!!

So far everything works beautifully on PC. I've managed to juggle going into the subfolders and back out of them with no problem. But This is where my problem begins.... I read a few different contradictory statements with regards to MAC (and of course I can't test anything out because I don't own a mac):

1) MAC projectors don't support subfolders.. and that all the sub ".swf" files have to be in the main directory.

2) You have to use ":" instead of the "/" to direct the mac projector to load the sub movies in subfolders.


Is there any truth to these statements? or should my CD work on a mac as it does on PC?

Some other information: I'm using macimage to make a hybred CD.. From what it says in the help menu, macimage uses binhex to decode the .hqx file so that it can load in a mac. I'm loading the "main" submovies on level 0 and loading the sub sub movies in placed movie clips.

So if anyone out there can help me or atleast ease my mind on how the Mac side will react with my project.. please let me know.. I'd be forever greatful!! Thanks

I have been working on a PC CD-ROM project for quite some time, and the next project I am getting needs to run on mac...
but I know didly squat about mac, on PC I use Screenweaver, so I can execute batch files outside of fscommand folder, but how would I do the same thing on a mac...

Im having trouble getting back a load of projectors I created on the mac (for mac) but they lived for some time on a PC. As such when copied back they lost their identity as the Mac Projectors have no .exe equivalent.

Does anyone know who to recover its identity - the content is all their, its just forgotten what it is....

Projectors Again
Hi. First post and sorry if this is an old chestnut. Running Flash Pro 8 on Macintosh OS10.4.9. I'm trying to create a standalone projector following the procedure outlined in the online tutorial - creating a Flash Video Player Component and linking it to a flv file then publishing as either .exe for Windows or Mac Projector. I've been careful to set up a working folder containing my source flv file, so that my published files (.exe / Mac Projector / .swf player skin file) all end up in the same place. Works fine on the source machine, but as soon as I transfer the folder to another machine (via memory stick) double clicking the projector only brings up a blank stage without video or playback controls. I assume this is some sort of file paths issue, but can't see for the life of me what I'm doing wrong. Help.

Quicktimes In Projectors
Quicktimes in Projectors

I am in great need of some help.
I was under the illusion that in MX it was possible to play quicktimes through a Projector. I do not want to embed the qiucktime as I need the .mov to be accessible from out side of the projector, so if I choose link and set the path I can see the .mov in flash program but when exported there is nothing there. Does any one know if I can play a quicktime through a MX Projector and if so how.

Projectors, Publishing
Hi, I'm very frustrated! I am trying to publish my flash site and it's not working! I am using MX. I created a preloader and used the IF FRAME LOADED action script to tell it to load the main movie, "main" scene, on frame number one. However, it always loads on frame 38 and that frame isn't labeled and there isn't any reference to it. I also want to create projectors for Mac and PC, but when I do, they just play through and then end up on frame 38 again. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this problem? Thanks!

Is it possible to use load movie and tell target scripts in a flash file that will end up as an e-mail-able projector/.exe, rather than a server based web page?

Preloading For Projectors
Is there a difference in the preload code for a web site vs. a projector?

I am converting a web site to a cd-rom projector running full screen. It plays poorly. It doesn't seem to be preloading any of the animations. Preloading on the web site seems to work fine. I use the common preload code:

}

Any help would be appreciated.

Saving Mac Projectors
I'm running Flash on a PC, but I need to save out a Mac projector. I emailed off the movie but the Mac user had problems running it. It
could have been an old machine, with an outdated version of Stuffit.

MY QUESTION: When you save out a Mac Projector on a Mac, does it still put it inside of an .hqx? I was under the impression that it's just a workaround for PCs, so they don't corrupt the file. Would it make more sense to decompress the file on a Mac, and just burn the raw projector file? Throwing away the .hqx?

Target Different Projectors
Help!
I'm having to split my projector file into four sections to run on slower machines from a CD ROM. I have read the macromedia help on targeting projectors from each other and placed three of the projector files in an fscommand folder. This works fine from the initial starting projector file, but when I want to go back to the start projector from the files in the fscommand folder it does not work. I have tried using ../ but that does not appear to work. Anyone have any answers?

What's Happened To Projectors In MX?
Hi

I'm currently revamping an old project I built in flash 5. Basically, I had a stub projector, which then loaded various swfs through it (it was a standalone app, on a CD). All the content was fullscreen, but not scaleable, so it looked the same at all times...

I've just rebuilt a few features using MX (but I'm still outputting it as flash 5 content for consistency's sake), but now I'm having problems. The stub loads the first movie fine - but when I click through to load any of the others, the 'fullscreen' fs command no longer seems to work - ie, the movie snaps back to the top corner, leaving the desktop visible around it.

Any ideas why this would be? Any ways I can overcome this problem?

I have a chrismas card that I made with flashmx. The swf is 25K. The projector is 825k. How could I email this to certain people using a smaller file? I know a link to a site would work but I would like something that I could enclose with an email. Are there smaller projectors out there?

Loadmovie And Projectors.
Hi,
I've made a flash movie that uses the loadmovie command. Works fine on the net. However, I also want to export the file as a projector.
When I do this the projector works fine if it lives in the same folder as as it was created, with all the swf's.
But if i drag the projector or copy it to another location it no longer loads in the other movies.
Any ideas? Should I make specific projector version with movie clips rather than swf's?

Autorun For Projectors
I am making a CD on a pc.

I created two projectors, one for mac and one for pc.

The pc version has an autorun, but the mac one dosn't because i don't know how to do it.

I do not own a mac.

The cd and autorun work fine for my pc.

Will a mac read the pc projector? or does it have to read the mac projector..i have know way of testing this.

Any thoughts?

Does any one know how to make an auto run that tests for pc or mac then fires it off to the right projector?

Preloaders/projectors Help
I have been a bit cheeky really as i am asking two questions.

1.) I have a movie to use as a Intro containing the pre loader but i don't really know how to get it to function as a preloader which shows loading progress. Basically i am a bit lost

2.) I would like to create a presentation and am aware i know you have to use a projector but again i found myself on unchartered teritory. Anyone explain? I have looked for a tutorial on this under projectors?..

Link Two Projectors
Hi,

I can't figure this out... I need to link two projectors together. Both of the flash projectors have to stay .exe, I can't change one or the other because both of them execute .pdf files. I am going to burn these files to a CD. I have already tried to us fscommand in this way

}

Do I need a 3rd party tool to accomplish this or is there code that I could write?

Can Projectors Bookmark?
My client wants a Flash Projector to create a bookmark off of the CD ROM it will be viewed off of. This bookmark should do two things.

First, it should allow the viewer start where they left off from after their last viewing. We all know DVDs do this, but I have never seen a CD ROM do this, let alone a Flash Projector.

Second, they want this Flash Projector to have a bookmark option within the Flash Projector file itself.

Does anyone know if these two ideas are possible?

Printing.. In Projectors
Hey guys i have a interactive CD, made using a projector.exe

I have some text in a scrolling text box... I want to be able to print that info on the click of a button...


Ideally it would be something simple like "click the botton" then it looks in a external text file also on CD it points to and prints from that.

Or it could just print whats in the text box in the screen i just want to be able to print stuff on a button.

I have two flash projectors for a windows cpu. I need to run on projector fullscreen on the 1st monitor and the second projector on the 2 monitor however in windows xp making the flash fullscreen defaults to the main monitor 1. MacOSX will allow to run each on separate screens. Is there a way around this on the on xp?

Hi I'm designing a presentation in Flash and I have a couple of different Mac and PC Projectors that I want to attach to each other. With the HTML Presentation I just did getURL and pointed it to it. But for the Projectors presentation (so that people don't have to have flash to run it.) when I do that it just goes to the folder and highlights the file and doesn't open hit. HELP

Projectors Need More Customization
I've downloaded the trial of Flash CS3 and there are some remarkable improvements like the speed of ActionScript 3.
I also noticed that the new version of Flash has the ability to make form based applications through an easy gui.
I want to use Flash CS3 mainly for standalone applications and desktop games, problem I see is that Flash does not allow much of customization when it comes to Projector files.
For example I cannot set my own caption for the Projector window or make the Projector window non-resizable which makes applications feel like Flash movies and not actual applications like a Delphi one or a C++ one.
I think the following should be included in the next versions:


fscommands

fscommand("minimize") : To minimize a projector window.
fscommand("allowresize","false") : To hide the maximize button on a form and disallow resizing of the Projector window.
fscommand("keepaspectratio","true") : To keep the aspect ratio when movie is resized, fullscreen etc.
fscommand("allowrightclick","true") : To hide the flash right click menu completely and allow on(rightClick) actions at last.
fscommand("MyCustomCaption") : To change the Projector window caption from "Adobe Flash Player" to our custom title.
fscommand("allowjoystick","true") : Veeery useful for games. It would allow joystick input, which would be translated via a simple mapping like joystickSetKey(KEY_DOWN,JOY_DOWN). Seriously you could use DirectX for this and there also many libs for OSX and Linux regarding joystick detection.
fscommand("silentmode","true") : To reject all requests like webcam usage, shared object storage etc, and do not display any dialogs. In other words, Flash Player is in silent mode.


more commands

saveVariables("my.txt",variables) : To write flash variables into a text file, usable for keeping information about user settings or game data that not get deleted from "Flash cookie (shared object) cleaners". I know this could pose a security hole when used with online applications, that's why I am only requesting it for Projectors only.

libraryFunction("my.dll","_myfunction",cdecl,arguments) : To call and use functions from .dlls, .dylib, .so etc. That would expand Flash like nothing else. It would result in more useful extensions as well.

showMessage("MyCaption","MyMessage") : Useful for applications that need to use OS defined messageboxes.

showBrowseFile("MyCaption","*.txt,Text Files| *.rtf, Rich Text Files") : Useful for applications that need to use OS defined browse for file dialog.

showBrowseFolder("MyCaption","C:/") : Useful for applications that need to use OS defined browse for folder dialog.


more projector customizations

Custom Icon : Ability to set our own icon (.ico/.icns) for our .exe and .app projectors.

Center Window : The window should be centered on the user's screen for projectors at least.

Pause on lost focus : To pause the projector when it looses focus.

Allow one instance : To allow only one instance of the particular projector.

Screensaver Projector : Output as Win or Mac screensaver projectors, (just an idea)

Better SWF Protection : There's been a rage with Flash Decompilers lately stealing everyone's work. I understand SWF is an open format BUT we need better protection from those who are stealing. The password mechanism and protect from import are dumb, as anyone with some hex editing knowledge can easily remove them. At least actionscript needs to be protected. And no, I refuse to use costy 3rd party tools, except it is something like a DRM tool.

Now, I know some will probably say, "You can do this with Director!" or get "MDM Zinc" from multidmedia. The answer is "no". Director is a very hard to use program. It uses an obsolete and confusing language: "Lingo". The interface is puzzling and dull. It's way behind than Flash and its costy. MDM Zinc is good but not a full authoring environment so its kind of impractical to use, plus its costy as well. I don't care if that's going to be Flash CS3 Extended. This would be the version for me and everyone else wanting to create rich desktop applications and I will be buying it.

Flash Projectors
i have one huge flash file which has links to other flash files and want to run them as a self running full screen projector (or projectors) how do you link them or make this work. i'm using flash 5 the huge flash file has multiple scenes with movie clip animations, sound and time line animations and has become unmanageable to add to (it takes about 10 minutes to export and i have to assign all my memory to author it, originally it was a website with links (get url) to html pages with a javascript behaviour in the page to resize it. all these popups i've made into flash files. would appreciate any help.

Exporting As .EXE (projectors)
Say I have a flash movie with 3 sections. If I export the level 0 movoie (main movie) as .EXE, and have the other 2 sections .swf files in the same folder, everything works fine. Is there a way to have all 3 sections in 1 .EXE file?? Of will I have to remake the flash movie so it only uses 1 movie instead of 3?

and finally, is there a way to specify the projector window size (After double clicking the .exe file) because the window is maximizable.
