there are some thintgs that i don't get...
how does an proffesional flasher draw so good?
it seams to me that flash is kinda poor in drawing tools... and i don't get more than some lousy lines and circles.. and i'm forced to use to many jpgs, which is not so good...
i have made some sites till mnow, but i want to learn more...

Hi, I am very new to Flash, so please be kind, LOL.
If you could look at www.rbrad4.com I made the first page that comes up in flash. I made a button ENTER HERE, and did what I thought was putting in a url direction path, but, as you can see, the page takes you there automatically. What I need to know is, how do I make it not go directly to my main page, but stop and wait until the user presses the enter button. Also, how do I put in where I want the user to go when the button is pushed.

I’m not new to AS2 but to AS3 I’m a complete rookie.
Attached are two versions of a menu that I developed. The AS2 Version is working great, but the AS3 is a disaster. If you test the movie you’ll get this Output:

Maybe its the weather, or just my head. Simplething I am just not working out. Did a search, but most of the script was wrong for what I need.
All I am trying to do is:
My main timeline I have I have a button, and I want that button to rewind back through the timeline to a page called "landing page". Thats it!
on release rewind.gotoandStop ("landing page") I think the basic code is similar to this one.

Flash Rookie Looking For Help
Hello.
I'm a little green to complex web design and I am trying to teach myself, but I am running in to a wall. I bought a flash menu bar from the exchange and I was able to create a menu and insert it into my page with Dreamweaver. When I preview my page locally the menu shows up and looks great and I get excited. But when I FTP the files to the server the menu bar isn't there at all. If I view the source code from the browser I can see the code there that is associated with the menu. I have spent hours on this so far and my wife is starting to get a little steamed. ANY help from this forum would be appreciated. I have attached the code of my index page. Thanks in advance.

Rookie Question - HELP
Help - I'm brand new to all this and I have been using Dreamweaver to setup a new site. My question is in flash, where would I start looking (to create) if I needed to take a regular jpg picture and create a file into Dreamweaver that had the picture moving as if in a panaramic view, and also have flowing words roling through it as well.
I just need direction on where to go to start or find what is needed, theres so much to all the Adobe I'm lost as to where to start.

Is is possible to use multiple xml files feeding in to multiple dynamic text boxes? I want to have close captioning, as well as background text which pops up when the speaker makes a point I want to emphasize.
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Should I try a different approach?

Actionscript 3 Rookie
Hi,
i´m totally new to actionscript 3 and definitely confused by all the new terms and the whole OOP itself. As for myself, i´m more into design and was quite happy with some of my rudimentary as1-skills. But now I really feel the need to enhance my knowledge and i´m ready to take some deeper steps into flash-programming. Normally i used movieclips for buttons. For example, I defined some rollOver/rollOut-animation for them and wrote some code like:
example_btn.onRollOver = function(){
this.gotoAndPlay(rollOverEvent);
}
The rollOverEvent plays till it reaches the "stop"-call on its timeline.
example_btn.onRollOut = function(){
this.gotoAndPlay(rollOutEvent);
}
My AS3-approach was:

So my questions are:
1st. Is it okay to put "stop"-calls on different frames in different timelines (or how can I bypass that and write everything in the main code?)
2nd. I encountered, that if I publish my as3-file it works fine for the first time but then begins to strike.

What is the best solution to put this into clear AS3-code.

2.On advanceflash.com they have some buttons for sale with particle effects are these just After Effect animations exported to swf.?

Flash Rookie In Need Of Help
Hi everyone. I'm still a rookie in flash and I'm having a little bit of trouble with some actionscript. I've gotten as far as placing the buttons and assign the correct actionscript for them to work. Everything is working fine with the buttons activating the external .swf into a blank movie clip in the main movie. Ony thing is, I would like the external movie assigned to the first button to open once the movie is loaded.
I thought by using the same actionscript i used on the button {and removing the on(release) tag} and placing on the first frame of the main movie would help, but it doesn't. Can anyone help me? If so, much thanks to you. I've included an example zip.

I havn't used Flash for almost 3 years... Now I'm starting use it as a rookie, and this time on WinXP (I used it on Mac before).
My question is:
I'm trying to use the basic actions: I made a simple button that suppose to go to another frame when it is pressed. But it doesn't work . Moreover - The animation never stops , although I used the stop() function.

Ok this has no preloader - known issue.
Problem: File size - 149 kb = Too large; I published the document with maxed out settings - ie jpeg quality set to high. I used *.png files for the graphics which were created in photoshop.
Whats the best options for publish settings? I see some killer flash work that seems to be compressed much better then my demo.
Also - The Culinary Arts 2004 text is exported out of PS as a .png file, but once I publish the movie it created a glitch in the graphic.. Curious. Should I use the same font in flash and create the outer glow with flash?
Its like my first real attempt with flash so any help would be appreciated!
Preloader ROOKIE - Going Crazy

I'm sorry for bringing up the issue of PRELOADERS, but I've tried about a dozen tutorials and samples movies and books etc... I just can't get this thing to work!!

It appears that this main .swf loads the intro.swf into the loaderClip 100% while showing a blank screen, then shows the preloader quickly and continues to play.
I have also tried not loading anything into a movieClip, but just putting a preloader on the main timeline of the main movie. This seems to work locally in a browser, but if I upload it, again it wants to loadd 100% with a white screen before showing anything.
I'm at a complete loss.
Any help out there would be appreciate.

I have declared a few Variables on the main timeline.These are Number type Variables .
They are used to count and trigger events from a Switch statement ie:if the counter Variable is 30 (for example) do such and such.
I have a number of movie clip "score keepers".These have nested movie clips that bold and recede in alpha as the score moves up or down. Graphically its something like a thermometer.
Each clip will score 100 points in increments of 10.
The "0" mark the "100" mark and the "200" mark in these three movie clips are text fields.
My difficulty is:
How do I assign textfields as parameters?
When this is accomplished.
How do I assign these "fields" a numeric parameter without the assignment throwing a type mismatch error.

Slidebar With To Classes (im A Rookie :) )

Okay... what i want know is to make some simple new things to my slidebar.
1. I want the new boxes to be inserted in the Box.as file when box_mc.x is >= to 0, but i dont know how to call the insertBox function?! Because i dont think that setInterval is very precise. The boxes doesnt allways has the same space between them?!
2. I want a MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER listener to make the movie go faster and another to make it rewind. You know... like when you want to scroll between the different boxes, you can place you mouse in the end of the movie and the boxes will go in that direction... just like some kind of a coverflow thing
I Hope you know what I mean. Someone who can point me in the right direction or tell me what to do next?

I'm able to create an exe file from a flash project, but it displays the
Flash player menu and window's bar.
Is it possible to hide the player menu and just to code everything
inside the exe (i mean play, pause buttons, or interactive menu) ?

I am a beginner with action script...actually a designer (yeah one of those...) Anyway, my latest challenge is to come up with a counter. However it doesnt really pertain to clicks or anything...Just something like an odometer that races away up to 1 billion and then re sets.
I found a nice countdown script on this site:

I like the overall timing etc. However, it is a count down site, not a count up site...And it is connected to real time/date data. I just need the numbers to scroll accurately.
Any ideas? Anything would be appreciated.

I've spent hours using examples on-line trying to do drag and drop to shapes.
1. I'm actually regressing since now upon starting over, when applying the simple start and stop drag script to the button on top of a Movieclip, both it and the other movie clip on the stage move together. I changed the other movie clip (which was going to be my shape to drop into) to a graphic but it also moves with the other Movieclip.
2. When I actually had it working earlier, I tried creating a simple drag and drop to a shape with the if-else logic. I had the one clip dragging and dropping but it would always default to the "else" logic. I could not get it to stick to the other Movieclip
An advice would be appreciated.

Actionscript Rookie Just Got Tackled -- Ooof
I have two swf files: 'comp1' and 'gdslide'
gdslide has it's own buttons and a scrolling menu and it works fine when it plays by itself.
Here's the problem: I try to have it play inside comp1 using this actionscript:
loadMovie("gdslide.swf", "_root.container");
This part I know is correct, but when I play gdslide inside comp1, the buttons don't work and the scrolling menu is frozen.
I've been trying to find out what actionscript needs to go inside gdslide (and where), but no success yet. Can you help?
Rookie Question Do A Get URL To Open New Window
Hey I hate asking this rookie question but...
I have a flash that will be embedded in Dreamweaver and I want it to be clickable and open a new window on the browser.
the getURL command doesnt cut it, it just changes the url instead i want a pop up window to come up.

Rookie Here: My First Flash - To - Server Upload
Hi All,
New to FLASH, so please bear with me...
I subscribed to one of them flash template places and purchased a template.
After manipultaing and publishing (here is yet another question "publishing vs. control+enter (test)" which is the right way to get a final result or they the same?) my flash file, I ran it through dreamweaver to get it up to my server.
So here is my main question:
"html VS. swf" Which one is called when someone is trying to view my site?
And if I DO keep the (MyCompanyName.HTML & MyCompanyName.SWF) "my_company_name.extension" naming convention as it was published from "MyCompanyName.FLA" file , then nothing seems to work.
Do I have to rename the "MyCompanyName.HTML" to "index.html" and use that?
The company I bought it from makes NO MENTION of having to rename anything, but MyCompanyName.HTML definitely doesn't work.
If i change the MyCompanyName.HTML name to index.html it works, but it does not center it nicely like the .swf file does.
Is there a way to make the "swf" file the index file?
Explanations of any of the above will be greatly appreciated.

Flash Rookie Posing As An Expert
Hello all,
I am in way over my head. I downloaded a full flash templete to base my web page on thinking it would be easy to modify. First mistake? Thinking. After countless hours with Studio 8 I have figured out how to make all the necessary changes except an image gallery. I have searched for hours on the net to try to figure out how to make free gallery codes work but my ignorance in this issue is causing great stress. And I do not see a topic in these forums that answers the below question for me very well.
Here's what I'd like, can someone tell me how hard it is to do? I have a webpage that has tabs. One tab is "gallery". When you select it there are three rows of buttons with pictures on them setting you up for the next page. When you click on one of these buttons I have it set up so an identical page appears but with an empty space where the buttons from the "gallery" page were. Here is where I want the thumbnails to appear and when you click on the thumb a larger pic shows below. What I am hoping is that this can be done just by coding to find a folder with pictures and sizing and loading itself. Please tell me there is a way to code this so I just have to add or delete pictures from/to a file folder. And I need it to work for diferent folders of photos.
Please forgive my "rookiness" in this issue. I can't believe there isn't something all ready in these forums that will help me, or online. But I am having a heck of a time finding it. Once I know the keys to writing the code and the proper place to set it up I can do the rest.

Rookie Needs Help With Dynamic Flash Template
I've done a few pages in Front Page and Site Builder, can barely hack my way around VB. We purchased a Dynamic Website Template and have a trial version of CS4. I am trying to do two simple things and am clueless.
1) On a couple of the pages in the individual sections, one the sections have a four links. I want to remove those links with the flash icon and replace with text
2) I need more pages than is included in the template. They don't have to be Flash pages. How do i create a link from a button on one page to another page in Flash.

I have not found any FAQs on this but , it is step zero.
A web developer made some flash pages, he is out of contact now. These are .swf, .fla, and .html files. Pages were done in flash so the pictures on the site wouldnt be stolen.
Q: How do I modify the text for the site? I don't see text in the .html files, Is it in the .swf, .fla? I dont't own Flash, but my girlfriend just got a copy. We tried to modify an fla, I believe, and uploaded it , but no luck, Are we doing this right?

Q: there is a menu that fit the width of the buttons... depending wich button is selected.. it looks dinamic.. i [and probably few of us] made it just tweening some frames.. but i think that there is a more kb-less and easier way.. to do that.

Rookie Question Regarding Buttons In A Movie
I am developing a little interactive map for a local college thats going rather well except for a little situation where I need to have a button set another button to an over state.
Heres the situation - I have a map and a menu in the movie. The map has button regions over each building on the map which displays information about the building. I added a menu to allow viewers to select a building from. I need the menu button to set the correlating map button to an overstate or simply act as an extension of the map button.
How does one go about setting this up?

Sup Quick Easy Question, But Im A Flash Rookie
hey! ok here it is: i have a mc instance named "i3" nested inside a mc instance named "i2" wich itself is nested inside a mc instance named "i1" and i1 is on the root timeline. all i want to do is control i3's timeline from a button on the root timeline. how do i do this? im not sure of the correct formula, i know u choose "expresion" in a goto statement, but not sure how. any help is apreciated. thanks!!!!!

Rookie On CS4: All Tutorials And Classes Fail On Output
*argh* ... Completely new to AS, trying to figure it out... All the tutorials i have tried to make from here (and other places) fails in working on <ctrl>+enter (publish) and/or output is full of error and then the movies dont work too (logical)...
Must be me who's completely off and could really use some advice.
A simple tutorial like the scroller fails even if it is the original file from Lee Brimelowi try to publish. English is not my native language, so maybe i'm just missing the point in the message ? ..:

The tween tutorial fails too, with this msg:

So apparently i am doing something wrong (and must have been doing all weekend), but what?
My normal (allmost non as) movies work just fine, but as soon as i experiment with as (i.e. learning through tutorials) nothing works
Hard to keep the enthusiasm to learn something new, when everything fails, or if no output errors come the movies just dont work, event if i followed everything to the (.) so i really hope someone can help me?
