Hi there,

I wanne make a scroller that loads in external txt file so its easy to update.Problem is the way my site is setup it doesn't seem to load the txt.

My scroller is placed inside an mc.This mc is placed inside another mc.The mc is loaded by a holder(attachmovie function).
The only way I can see it working is when the scroller(mc) is placed on the main timeline.How can I make the scroller work
inside an mc placed inside another mc wish is loaded by a holder.

Hope someone can help me out because I'm really stuck.

Hi there,

I seem to have a probl with my scroller.The txt file get's loaded only the scrollbuttons don't seem to work.

Can someone have a look at this file.(see below)

the scroller is placed inside a mc(test).This mc is placed inside another mc(test2).On the scene you'll see I attached test2 by a holder.(attachmovie function).The way it's set up all has to do with the site I'm trying to make at the moment.

You'll also see if you place test2 on stage it all works only the way I want it loaded from the button doesn't seem to work.Hope someone can help out because I'm really stuck at this.

MX: Textfield In Scrol Pane
Hi, I have a text field in a scrol pane.

It is a xml news list.

The problem I am having is that I want the pane to fill up as the news comes in.

At the moment I have so set the text field to be a certain size and it gets populated.

What I want to do is have the text field push down, depending on the amount of content - making the scrol bar appear if the text goes down longer than the size of the scrol pane.

Text Scroller Download Can You Make Smoother Scrol
If I give you this text scroller download can you make it scroll smoother? Thats the challenge I havent seen one roll smoothe yet. Can you apply some code to make it scrol in small pixel amounts and speed as well? So that it rolls up or down the screen the same as movie words scrol on the TV screen?

Vertical Scrol Bar Controling Separate Text Area
Hi, in my flash site I have a text area controled by a scrolbar.

But, I want to use the new style scrol bars.

There does not seam to be an option of having a separate vertical scrol bar in the new style and associating it with a text area...

Problem With External MCs, Loading An External Into An External
What I have is 2 seperate files, Main file is the actual website flash, second file is the external movie clip that loads 3 other external movie clips. The site will see the external clip but nothing will appear on the site, blank movie clip only.

On the main site there is this code to load the external clip into the site:

On the external clip these are the codes for loading the 3 characters onto it:

Load External Text Inside An Already Loaded External Movie
here's the problem as simply as I can explain it.
there's a main.swf, a news.swf and a text.txt
the news.swf is loaded into the main.swf and I want to load the text.txt into the news.swf

everything works when I just load the text into the news.swf without loading it into the main.swf, so I know the text.txt part is loading.

Hi,

I'm making a Flash website in Flash 8 (mac).

Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.

One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.

I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004. The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.

Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

How To Load An External Movie Using A Link Within An External Swf - Urgent

Flash CS3 but coding in AS2 - mac.

I believe I have asked this question before but i was using loadMovie() - I am now using loadClip and the MovieClipLoader class and obviously I have managed to break something.

I have a number of external swfs which load fine, with preloaders using MovieClipLoader, into an empty MC on the stage called holder_mc. In one of the external swf's, there are two links to separate external swf's - if you click on either of them, the current swf is unloaded and the new one is loaded. I used:

However now that I am using a different code (because before, evrything wasnt preloaded, i just had a white space until it appeared) the code within the swf obviously has to change. The only problem is, I cant for the life of me work out what it is, I have tried all sorts of combinations and probably missed the most obvious one. I do not want to create empty movie clips, I want the movie to load into the MC which I have defined - holder_mc - and usually I would tell it to unloadClip() before loading the new one, but it cant load a new one if it has unloaded itself. I hope that makes sense!

Preloader For External Swf That Pauses External Swf Until Completely Loaded
I'm fairly new to all of this stuff, so bear with me . . .
I want to load an external swf into a main swf movie. (This much I can do).

I would like a separate preloader movie in the main swf movie to display the amount loaded.(I've found tutorials for that, so that's not the issue.)

The problem is that I want the external swf not to start playing until it is completely loaded.

If I put a stop on the first frame of the external swf, that will keep it from playing, but, I'm not sure how to get the external swf to recognize that the load is complete.

I could put a preloader in the external swf, but I'm trying not to so that I can reuse the preloader for other external swf files without having to put it in each one.

Maybe I put a preloader without a visual component on each external swf?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preloaded External Swf Do Not Show External Dynamic File...?
okeli... I am posting because I am totally stuck... my xp regarding coding and stuff is absolutely crap (although I do understand most logic to the scripts u all write out), so I have followed most of ur tutorials on the site.

The problem:

I have made a main file and used primarily two of ur tutorials together. The first one is Claudio's Preloader and transition tutorial, http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/p...transition.htm, but also kirupa's Scrolling dynamically loaded text, http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/dynamic_scroller.htm.

The file main.swf should load, with transition and loading, the file members.swf - which it does. However when members.swf should load currentmembers.asp as a scrolling text the text do not show up. When I however view members seperately the scrolling text DO SHOW up! I am all confused at this and the only thing I can imagine being wrong is somewhere in the coding of main.fla file... :/ Perhaps I am wrong (which would not be a surprise) so if someone kind enough can have a look through at the coding of the main.fla and/or members.fla I would be sinceraly grateful... thanks...

Loading External SWF From External SWF Onto An Empty MC On Main Timeline?
Hi Everyone,

Please bear with me while I explain. I have an external swf that loads into a frame in the main timeline, into an empty MC. I can do this just fine. Once this clip is loaded, I have a button in this clip that loads another external swf into a different empty MC on the main timeline. I'm using loadMovie, and I need to load these movies into specific empty MCs. In other words,

I have the following:

MainStage: frame 5, contains empty MC "ClipA"; frame 6, contains empty MC "ClipB"
External swf: "Movie1"
External swf: "Movie2"

"Movie1" goes into "ClipA" of frame 5 on Main Timeline; and "Movie1" has a button that loads "Movie2" into "ClipB" of frame 6 on Main Timeline. I need help loading "Clip B" into "Movie2" from a button in "ClipA."

I'm sorry my message is so roundabout - it's not really a complicated situation, but explaining it makes it seem so.

Thank you in advance for any help - I'm assuming it's some sort of _root or _parent issue things I'm not quite understanding.

Trigger External Swf To Load Into Main Swf From Button In Another External Swf
I'm really stuck with this and it seems like such a simple problem to solve.

I am trying to get a nav button in one movie (main_nav.swf) to target a my main movie (index.swf) and load a sub nav movie (metals_subnav_infinite.swf) into it. The sub nav movie will do a similar task - loading a portfolio swf into main movie (index.swf).

Here is the file breakdown of my working files:

index.swf - main final movie which loads "main_nav_infinite3.swf" on start

main_nav_infinite3.swf - loads main nav "main_nav.swf" and scrolls it infinitely (infinite menu)

main_nav.swf - main nav with buttons that trigger sub nav "metals_subnav_infinite.swf" to load into index.swf

metals_subnav_infinite.swf - loads sub nav "metals_subnav.swf" and scrolls it infinitely

metals_subnav.swf - sub nav with buttons that trigger "folio.swf" (have not created this file yet!) to load into "index.swf"

The script I was focusing on is in main_nav.fla and it is:

metals_mc_bn.onRelease = function() {
reActivateMenu();
this.gotoAndStop(3);
this.enabled = false;

I haven't yet activated all the buttons yet just the "Metals" button as the first to get working.

External Clip, External Variables Don't Load
hi all,

I'm having some trouble with external variables and external movie clips. I have a main movie, and one part of it is an external movie, the main movie has a bunch of variables stored in a text file. This works fine. The external movie also has a bunch of variables in a different text file. When I play the external movie on it's own it works fine too. When I load the external movie from my main movie, the movie loads but the variables don't. Is there a special way to do this with more movies, do I have to load variables on different levels or something?

I generally use this to load variables

loadVariables ("roznet.txt", "");

I have tried using absolute paths as well (http://) but the same thing. It works by itself but when it is within my main movie the variables don't load. Any ideas? Thanks.

All files are currently in the same directory. When I test contHome.swf (the swf loaded by the main movie), everything works. But when I test the main movie the text does not load, or at least it does not show up as I receive no errors in the output window, and I can't figure out why. Can anyone help?

Generic Preloader For External Swfs From Within An External Swf

I have a full flash site that has a main interface.swf that loads in external swf's as holders for their relevant page contents. E.G. using loadMovie I load portfolio.swf into the mainLoader (movieclip) within interface.swf. Within portfolio.swf I load in a further series of external swf's based on button click events, for these I want to use a generic preloader to prevent having to put a preloader in each individual swf.

I have found some code on O'Reilly (http://web.oreilly.com/news/action_0501.html) which seems to offer what I need but I'm having problems implementing this, I'm pretty sure this is down to incorrect targeting due to the fact I am not preloading from _root.

This is what i've been working with:

hello all, i have a button which loads an external jpeg from a folder. what i want is to have it so when the command to load the external jpeg is sent, an external preloader preloads it in the placeholder. this preloader will be generic so it can be applied to load before any image selected in any folder, for updating purposes. anyone know where to start with action script, or how to set it up,

External Swf File Does Not Load External Text
Hi,
I have an external text file that loads dynamically in my swf file.
It uses the actionscript:

loadVariables("joblist.txt","_root");

When I play the swf it works perfectly with the text scrolling in the dynamic text field, but when I load this swf file into my main swf file with loadMovie, the text does not appear.
I have tried embedding the fonts in both files, but it still does not show up when loaded into the main movie.
Can anyone help me with this?

Help With External Swf To External Swf Interactivity Along Same Timeline Help Needed
I'm structuring a website in Flash MX 2004, using a main timeline with empty movie clips along the timeline which load external swf files at frame labels corresponding to my main navigation. All is working fine, until I try to link to a specific frame label in one externally loaded swf from buttons in another externally loaded swf on a different location in the timeline. I tried setting a variable in the swf when the button is pressed to true, and placing an if statement in the beginning of the linked-to swf that said if varname is true, then go to the specific frame label. Has anyone ran into problems linking external swf to external swf? Anyone have good references for passing variables? I know the if/else is good, I think the problem is that the variable isn't passing correctly. Should I be using global variables? Linking to an external text file with variables? Creating an event listener? Any references/help are extremely appreciated!!!

Loading External Swf, From A Previously Loaded External Swf.
I'm trying to figure out if its possible to have a page that loads an external swf (easy, know how to do that), but then, from clicking on a button thats inside that loaded swf, load a different external swf in its place. Any ideas?

Disable Button In External Swf From Diff. External Swf
ok, i am loading an external swf into the main movie, and i want to disable the buttons and movieclips underneath while the movie is loaded. i am using a function, defined on root timeline to disable buttons.
ex:

it works beautifully and sucessfully disables most of the buttons and mcs underneath.

External Text In External Swf Not Loading In Main Swf
Hi. I'm kind of new to Flash, and am trying to make external text load into an external swf which is loaded into my main swf.

What I have is a swf file where I have buttons that load external text. I then loaded this swf into another main.swf and now the external text will not load. The code i have in the external.swf to load external text is this

Loading External Files Within External File
Is there a way to load an external file from within an already loaded external file?

Example:

I want to do a section devoted to blog entries. So, I was wanting to externally load the dated references in one textbox on the right side, and when the user clicks on one date, it loads the referenced text file into the larger box next to it.

Any ideas of how to accomplish this?

External Actionscript And Calling External Functions
I have not been able to figure out or find a good tutorial on how to use external actionscript or how to call functions located externally. What I have found in flash help and livedocs has not proved to be helpful and I have not managed to make it work. Has anybody seen anything?

Even a simple thing, such as creating an external function that tells a button to go to the next frame and how to call that in my flash file would be greatly helpful.

Loading External Images (from External Domains)
Hello kirupa users

I had a small problem in my latest work project where i wanted to load images from external domains.
The problem was that i did not know if i really need the checkPolicyFile set to true or if i really need to load the crossdomain.xml to tell flash player where the acces is.
As far as i know, in adobe as3 reference they stated that in order to load images from an external domain (a domain other than the one where the actual swf runs) you need a policy file or a security acces file in order to be able to do that.

My question is:
1: could i load an image from external domains without having to load some external file (or the crossdomain.xml file)?
2: if there is no possibility to load an image without the crossdomain policy why the checkPolicyFile method could take the value of false?

Problems Loading External CSS With External TXT FMX-2004
hi guys/gals. i'm not so new around here - this site has been a life saver several times, but i'm having trouble finding the answer to this problem i've encountered.

all of the files associated w/ this project are located here, http://www.ohmygraphics.com/test/groovesect/flash.

ok, here's what i'm trying to do.

i have a movie with a button that opens a window w/ a movie clip instance that is draggable. in this draggable movie clip is an external SWF file called "tester.swf". i've tried several times to have a dynamic text field that would load an external CSS file along with a TXT file.

see tester.swf. this is the same TXT w/ the CSS that i want loaded.

here, SITE1.SWF is the final movie w/ "tester.swf" loaded.

as you can see, i got it to load the external TXT file, but not the CSS.

i couldn't get the CSS to load in the SITE1.SWF file, so i thought that since it worked w/ the tester1.swf that i could load an external SWF file and have it work that way. but that didnt' work like i had hoped, which leads me to think that i've got the locations and everything else right in the AS.

i've also uploaded the two .fla files for you guys to look over to see the code. it's pretty simple really, i just don't know why it's not loading the CSS. i thought it might be something with having instances withing instances, but i really have no idea.

External Text Load On External Swf Problem?
ok heres the problem, i have a site, and on the main screen it loads an external movie clip onto the space available. loading the movie clip is not a problem, but the thing is that when i do, the external text loading function on the external swf doesnt work. any ideas?

External Gif/ Convert External Jpeg
I need to load gifs into a movie using loadMovie but officially you can only use jpegs??? they need to be gifs for a transparent background.

Has anyone got any ideas. can you convert jpegs somehow after they have been loaded? or does anyone know how to load external gifs?

Loading External Data Into An External Swf
I have a main interface where I'm loading an external swf's but I'm also trying to load text dynamically from a database from the external swf but the text will not show up,
but the text will load if it's in the main interface.

This is my code:

on (release) {
_level0.section = "about.swf";
_level200.play();

section = "contact";
loadVariablesNum("http://www.myurl.com/get_text.php", 0, "POST");

}

The swf will Load properly but the text won't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

External Libraries With External Content
Hey all,

Ok, I will try and be as clear as I can. I realize that there is a possibility in flash to obtain data from external swf libraries. But is there a way to store images such as jpegs in other libraries so that when the main swf needs curtain images, it loads the external libary and diplays the thumb nail and aswell as the large image.

I am aware of using external jpegs but I need to organise a set of specific images in one area because of the number of images that i have. I do not want to creaate alot of script to target alot of images in alot of folders.

eg.

I have 18 categories and each category has more than 20 images in each one. so can i just have each category in its own swf library then make the main swf just access it contents when assigned to?

External Swf And External Variable Problem
I have been working on a website that loads an external movie for each of the seperate pages of the site. This is no problem. However, I have set up the external swf's to have scroll bars and load content from text files. I can not get these to work together. I can use the content movie with the scroll bars on its own and the text loads, I can use the main navigation movie to load the content movie, but I can not get the main navigation movie to load teh content movie and then have the content movie load the text at the same time. *Wheew* I hope that's not too confusing.

- Seperate page of the site
-Text content

the script i use to load the external swf is :

}

the script i use on the external swf to load the text is :
loadVariablesNum("bio.txt", 0);

If I need to explain it more thoroughly please ask me to do so. Remember i can get these two elements to work seperately but not when both used together. :-(

Can I Load An External SWF Into A Container MC From Another External SWF (NAV)? HELP
DETAILS:

Main Movie contains two empty MCS one instance is called container and the other nav_container.

When the movie first loads, it preloads on frame 1, and then goes to frame two. Frame two has an action to load some sound, and the home_nav.swf file into the load_movie.swf file's nav_container.

This is where I run into my problem. From the home_nav.swf file, I have some script on my buttons. The buttons call an external file swf (subpage - content) to load into container MC (on load_movie.swf timeline). I cannot get the script to call in these subpages! Here is the script I used:

}

I assume it's a path issue? I feel like i have tried everything...i'm sure it's something simple that I missed.

Passing Varibales From External Swf To Another External Swf
Hey guys,

gotta big problem... ive created a page with an externally loaded navigation bar... when choosing a link for a specific section (externally loaded swf., a variable called stagetoggle is raised by one. This variable is used as the stageinformation needed for the loadmovie-action. This causes that each movie loaded will be on top of the one loaded before!

Problem is following: Ill post the code first to explain...

i load the movie biosite.swf into the stage "stufentoggle"; after it has been loaded, stufentoggle is raised by 1 to put the next loaded movie on top (bioload is simply to prevent reloading when the movie has already been loaded and the link is clicked again) To safe the present stage for later unloading, i pass on the value of stufentoggle to

Loading External Swfs From An External Swf
im building a site that uses a simple AS to load "contact us.swf" into the main movie. my question is how can i code it that from "contact us.swf i can load another external swf such as "form.swf"? i cant get it to load the form heres the code im using

Retaining Properties Of External Swf Within External Swf
hi there,

I know there are millions of threads on external swfs however i did do a search but couldnt find my exact problemo.

I have a few portfolio items that i want to include in my portfolio but i dont have the original fla's to alter the actionscript so they work without referring to the _root. I want them to run independently so when they are imported in they play independently. One of the main problems is i have a preloader in them which goes to the "main" frame label, i have this also in my main portfolio movie so its referring to the "main" on the main timeline rather than the individual swf and messing things up a bit!
