Flash :: Secure Flash Videos From Realplayer Download

Disable RealPlayer's Video Download Button
I have a client who wants RealPlayer v.11's "Download this Video" button to be automatically disabled for the video content in a Flash project. The video has to be delivered via progressive download since Flash Media Server cannot be installed on the host server.

When this topic was first introduced to the forums about 9 months ago, Tiago Dias, an Adobe Community Expert (aka funkysoul), wrote:

Curious if anyone knew a way for users to download videos from a flash site to their local machines. Wondering if you can do this straight from Flash or you would need an HTML page to do it. You would, in the flash, click a "download" button-- then the traditional dialog box would pop and you would download it from there... is this possible and what might the setup look like if it is?

Controlling Download Of Flash Videos
Can anyone tell me how to control the loading of a Flash video.
I'm new to Flash and have created a series of videos, averaging 3-5 min. ea. While everything seems to be working okay, I don't seem to have any control over whether or not the video is automatically sent to the browser.

Problem is on some of the pages, which contain multiple videos, the page load is extreamly slow regardless of the connection. The videos are set up not to autoplay, but this doesn't seem to control the download process.

I'm using the AC_RunActiveContent.js provided by Adobe, and it seems to work well, but I need to solve the slow loading. While I know there are many work-arounds, I'd like to avoid the download until the user selects to play the movie.

Controlling Download Of Flash Videos
I'm fairly new to Flash and only use it to deliver video. I've run into a problem that I hope someone has a simple answer to.

When I put multiple videos on one page, even though they are set not to autoplay, they are downloaded by the server to the browser at page load time. This is slowing the page load dramatically.

I am using the javascript "AC_RunActiveContent.js" by Adobe to control active content.

Can the download be set to take place only after the user has elected to "play the video" ?

I know there are several programs that can retrieve fla out of .swf files, is there cure for that?

Flash Causing "page Contains Secure And Non-secure Items..."
Hi All,

I have a flash menu on my web store .php pages and am getting a "this page contains secure and non-secure items..." in IE7 in Vista. I think this is because of the Flash menus, but thought I had taken care of this by making the codebase embedding to "https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0"

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Using Realplayer From Flash
hi, this might not pertain too much to flash, but it's been driving me crazy. I made a site for my band in flash, and I want to post some of songs on it . I'm poor, so I'm using angelfire to get a free page. I want to have real player files available, but when I enter the URL into flash, the button links to a "can't find it" angelfire page. . .I've been told since angelfire gives pages for free, they don't allow real files on the pages? Is this true?

If so, what would be the best way to post songs on a flash site without eating up tons of room while still keeping the quality high? I had previously streamed songs right in flash, but it took forever to load, therefore making it unpractical. . . .Are there any other file formats I should look into? Our band is my pride & joy, so I want to make the site reflect my passion.

RealPlayer In Flash?
Is there a way to make flash stream a realplayer audio file as you would do it in go-live or any other html? I want to be able to push a button in flash and have the ram file downloaded to the users computer and play from within their realplayer program. Is that posible?

Flash Vs RealPlayer
I have a Flash site that plays music in the background. However, the site is also setup to stream some longer audio/video files via RealPlayer. Problem is, even though I tell Flash to stop all sounds before going to the page with the RealPlayer files (which it does), it won't "let go" of the sound card. So RealPlayer can't play. And usually after RealPlayer bulks at playing, Flash starts playing again. Is there something else I need to put in the code to get Flash to "let go" of the sound card?

Using Realplayer From Flash
I am running audio on my site by dynamically loading mp3s which works well for those with broadband but not those still on 56k. For their benefit I want to link to real player and allow them to bufferstream the audio. I can do this but currently it keeps posting up a blank html page as well as the real player which looks a bit unprofessional. Is there a way of stopping it posting up the blank page or at least putting the song name on as opposed 'untitled page'
Alternatively what is the best way to deliver musictracks for 56k out of flash?

I will be working on a HTML site, where I'll be adding flash stuff here and there. Someone at the company mentioned using RealPlayer for the video stream, and I felt I could do that in Flash just as easily with more control over design and interactivity.

So, I'm trying to come up with an argument with my boss and see if I can convience them that Flash is better (or is it?) So, can you guys help me out here?

some of my arguments are:
-more accessable, one plug-in takes care of it all
-easier/better to design
-interactivity

Opening Realplayer From Flash...
I am trying to create a flash file with realplayer buttons, and windows media player buttons, that open their respective programs and play sound files. I would rather not load the files into flash to keep the file size down. I am wondering if there is a way to target a ram or mp3 file with the getURL action, without flash actually opening up a blank browser window, just staying on the same page. Is this possible? Maybe another method other than getURL?

Hello everyone, I manage the Toys for Tots TotsTV.org Web site (at http://TotsTV.org) for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots foundation (the national children's charity). At http://TotsTV.org we feature a number of high quality family-friendly videos. All of the content on TotsTV.org is in Flash format, including the games and music, but the videos are a real problem for us and I wonder if anyone has advice on how best to solve the issue?

The problem is that although the video quality (size and resolution) is good, the videos are still very large (from 25MB to 35MB each!) and as a result most people at home can't view them. Our site stats show that thousands of people are abruptly leaving TotsTV.org once they try to view the videos, so the current solution is actually driving people away from this non-profit children's charity site!

Clearly we need to re-encode the videos (originals are in AVI format) using a better Flash compression tool. We've been using "Swish Video 2" from SwishZone, and we like the image quality but the file sizes are just too large. Are there better tools that we should use instead?

For TotsTV we need to keep the dimensions and visual quality of the videos the same as we have now (high quality overall), but we really (REALLY!) need to reduce the file sizes to something more reasonable that a home user can download in timely fashion.

Any advice, pointers or direction you could give me would be a great help to me personally and the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots foundation. Thank you very much for your help!

Downloading Non-secure Content From A Secure We...
Okay, my new question is, I use SSL on my personal website. Apparently, my Flash 7 files generate a prompt in Microsoft Internet Explorer that asks if someone wants to download the non-secure items. To my knowledge, HTML isn't any more secure than Flash 7 stuff, but the problem doesn't happen when viewing simple HTML files. Can anyone tell me what might be causing Microsoft Internet Explorer to generate this dialog box with my Flash 7 files when viewing them over SSL?

No, I have not tried any other Internet browsers yet.

Secure Vs Non-Secure Items
I have an .swf file as part of a template for a secure page. It seems to be working fine, however, I always get an error that secure and non-secure itmes are contained on the page. All file references for the .swf and external images are referenced from the secure folder - that's how I know it works. Am I missing something in the OBJECT or EMBED tags that the .swf is looking for?? I'm clueless on this ...

When creating ecommerce applications in flash, is there any extra precautions that need to be taken to make it secure other than having it on a secure ssl setup with an ssl certificate? Publishing To Realplayer Using MX
Does anyone know what happend to the publish to Realplayer option in the publish settings?

In flash 5 it used to be underneath the quicktime export option.

Im making a realplayer smil presentation and have authored the flash bit in MX, I can't export to a 'tuned' realplayer .swf using MX and cant open my .fla in flash 5.

I guess i will have to re-author it in flash 5, not a big deal (its a fairly simple movie) but just a bit bugging :-(

Hi, am trying to get a secure login from flash with asp and database. used the loadvariable function and it connects to database too -

apparently, whatever typed into the username and password fields, appears in the temporary internet files as -
login.asp?userid=john&password=kimble
how do i prevent this from appearing?

also, sometimes when logging in, it fails probably due to weak connection. How do set the duration of accessing database long enough to get a positive response?

Is there a way to secure flash files from being seen unless someone is registered and has logged in to the PHP login part of a site?
Lets say that when the user has filled in the PHP login form, they will have acces to a simple HTML page with a button that opens a new browser window with the main flash page now preloading and can be viewed. I just want to prevent people who are not members from viewing the .swf files if they aren't memebers. Please forward me to any post or examples that talk about this.

I am trying to write a secure login using flash.

I worked out that the login must be separate from the protected content otherwise a decompiler will get round it very quickly.

At the moment I have a login swf that posts variables to a server side script which then creates a session for a valid user.

The idea is to then forward on to the protected content. However I am unsure how to pass the users info to the swf so a user could not modify before the swf gets it and thus see another members content or what I can do to stop someone just accessing the content directly by just knowing the swf file's location.

Flash On A Secure Server

I am using flash on a site (in HTML with some flash menus on the page) and a couple of my pages are on a secure server, problem is I get a message saying that "Some of the items on the page are not secure and some are, do you want to display both..?" I am assuming it is the flash that is causing this as the page is fine without flash.

I am currently testing removing the code source attribute from the HTML <object> tag

Is anyone familiar with this area at all - I need to know if there is a way of making the flash secure

Flash And Secure Data?
Hi, I was wondering what would be the best way to handle secure data in Flash. Whether it were sensitive information, or credit card processing, or a game that cannot have values altered in any unfair way.

Would Flash basically handle the front end, client interface, with a Java application in the back end handling all of the variables and stuff, being passed encrypted information? Or is there a way to safely handle it within Flash?

I've created an online ordering facility and want to include the ability to take payments through my flash movie.

If my movie is located on a secure server will the transaction still be secure if the payment info is being sent (or requested) from within my flash movie?

Any help would be great as I've never taken payment via flash before.

I have learned how to pass variable from Flash to PHP, such as method loadVars, and etc. However the problem is, how to post it in secure way?

Example:
After you finish a flash game, you need to send the score to server using PHP page, to log into database. User often can do something in between, to hack the score list.

I am not sure which side to do the protection, either Flash or PHP.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

I haven't been using Flash too long, and I am having problems with linking Realplayer media to my Flash website. I have the SWF and all the media in the same folder, when I upload the site folder, the links to the Realplayer movies don't work....can anyone help me with the action script for this.

Does Realplayer Break Your FMS Apps?
I installed Realplayer 11 beta on one of my Windows Vista machines yesterday, and it seems to be getting in the way of the flashplayers netconnection.connect requests.

I found that varaible data that should be sent to Flash Media Server applications through the Flashplayer client (in the NetConnection.connect arguments) is no longer being sent, and all of the variables come up as undefined on the server side!

The new reaplayer has a feature that gives you a button to grab video files from web pages. I found that if you don't install this button (there's an option in the reaplayer installer), the problem with the netconnection vars doesn't come up.

This is happening on Vista/IE7/FP9. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Secure Flash Videos From Realplayer Download

I have some videos that I don't want to let the realplayer be able to have downloaded with their program.... Is there any actionscript or technique to block the download process, and just keep streaming the videos in the application? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
