Simple Photo Navigation Question


First let me say, I am a print designer, so web is a bit foreign to me. I am attempting to create an online portfolio website for my print design work, and have run into a few problems.

Does anyone know how to make a button proceed to the next frame when it is pressed, but not go past a certain frame number? I assume it requires an if else statement, but I'm a bit lost.

Also, I need the same thing only going backwards. These buttons will be used for a forward and back command while viewing images, basically I am trying to create a loop for viewing my portfolio.

I would use a slide show ... but I need the images to change size and page orientation. Any suggestions?

Navigation Help For A Photo Album

Navigation Help For A Photo Album

Hi to all, i want to know if someone has seen in flash something similar to the iphone navigation in the photo gallery.
where you drag the photo to left or right and the photo move at the same time the other photo moves too.

is something like a horizontal scroller with drag, but if you dont drag until the middle of the screen and you stop dragging the photo returns to the original position.

[F8] Glitch In Flash Navigation With Photo Slideshow - HELP
Hello everyone!

Though I'm not a COMPLETE newbie to Flash, I'm currently working on my first major development project for a client using Flash.

The application is a Flash-based photo gallery, and the working movie can be seen here:

The top level of the movie contains the background and the text at the top of the window. Within that, there is a movie clip which contains the sidebar navigation menu options. When a user clicks an option, the sidebar adjusts and thumbails for each section appear. This movie clip controls the animation where the menu options slide up and down and the thumbnails fade in accordingly.

The thumbnails and the full-sized photos that correspond to each option are each contained in a separate movie clip that allows the user to click a thumbnail and have the full-sized picture appear. The way this works is each full sized picture is displayed in a separate keyframe and clicking on the thumbnail button advances to that frame and then stops, waiting for their next action.

There is also an option for the user to view all the pictures in the category as a slideshow. Clicking this option takes them to a further set of keyframes later in that movie clip's timeline where each frame is on an automatic timer.

If the user chooses "view as slideshow" option, as long as they wait until the slidehsow has finished playing all the way through, everyone works fine. But if they are in the middle of viewing a slideshow and interrupt it by clicking on one of the thumbnails within that category, it will take them to that picture's frame but then automatically advance to the next frame before pausing.

Worse, if they interrupt the slideshow in the middle of playing it by clicking on one of the OTHER categories, after a few seconds the movie automatically reloads from the beginning (including the preloader screen) and gets stuck in some kind of glitch loop where it plays the first few frames and then reloads them over and over again.

Before I added the preloader screen as a separate scene at the beginning of the movie, I didn't notice this issue. It was only after I added the preloader that this became a problem.

Any help, advice or assistance at this stage would be much appreciated. I'm not sure what's causing this problem, and the only solution I can think of at this point is to remove the "view as slideshow" option, which my client is really not keen on.

I'm happy to send over the source .fla file to anyone who thinks they can help.

Photo Gallery Thumb Navigation Question?
Hello everyone,

I have been battling with this issue for a while and seems like I can't find the right solution.

I have a navigation bar generated from the XML file. If XML file contains 10 photos, i would have a nav bar generated with 1 2 3 4 ... 10 where each number acts as a movie clip.

onMouseRollOver - new movie clip starts by sliding in and fading in a thumb preview box
on RollOut and RollOver a next or previous photo number, the thumb preview box mc does not finish sliding out and fading out action but disappears and starts a new slide in and fade in mc for the corresponding rollover action.

The problem and my question is how to make the thumb preview box finish its slide out and fade out action before starting the next rollover action if initiated.

Simple Photo Gallery
hi
i'm looking for a simple flash-developed photogallery to display some photos in my website...this should load images from an external directory and there should not be any limit to the number of pictures. i don't care if there are other fx such as fade in, sliding, etc etc,,,there should be only a simple scroller to view next or previous pic.
can anyone tell me where to find it?!?t tried everywhere on the net,even on flashkit archive but thare's nothing for me!

Simple Photo Gallery
Hi,

I want to make a photo gallery of about 10 pictures which fade in to each other on the users command. I have each picture on a new frame, and each picture is a MC.

I have a next and previous button. I have given each photo (MC) the following script:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
_alpha +=3;
}

Now, this works fine if I go to the next photo, the pictures blend in to each other very nicely. But when I press the back button, the current picture disappears without fading out, so it's not smooth at all.

Can anyone give me some hints (or AS) of how to fix this?

Help Please With Simple Photo Slideshow
I've been reading through all the tutorials, and I can't find, nor figure out, how to make a slideshow without controls to sequence from one slide to the next. I just want the slideshow to sequence through all the available slides, one after another, with 3 or 4 seconds on each slide, using transitions, and then starting back over again.

If anyone would be so kind as to offer some help on how to do this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Simple Photo Gallery -- Begging For Help (using Mx)
hi... I have an XML feed coming in with some basic info needed to layout a photo gallery.. but i have no idea how exactly to do it and need help. so far, i'm able to parse the xml and put the data into some kind of array. after that, i'm lost.

the xml sends in 3 pieces of information: (1) the picture id, (2) the location of the thumbnail photo on the server and (3) the location of the html page that's supposed to be popped up showing the larger version of the photo. here's how a sample xml entry might look:

i searched in tutorials but without any success...
i also tried the component "scrollpane" in MX but did not get along with that...

Help With A Simple Before/after Photo Slider With Wipe
I'd like to build a photo gallery similar to the "retouch" one at www.faithdenham.net, that would allow users to easily slide over a photo to compare the "before" and "after" versions.

Problem is, I'm a total novice at Flash. I've got Flash CS3 (and am terrified by it), but I'm a veteran Photoshop guy. Any advice on building the gallery from the gurus out there - or will I be trying to reinvent the wheel?

[MX04] Simple Photo Gallery
I have 3 photos, one big one (called montage1) and 2 smaller ones underneath it (called montage2 and montage3 respectively). I need to make it so that when you click on the montage2 or montage3 image it replaces the montage1 image or swaps one for the other. Is this really easy to achieve? I've tried some of the tutorials and can't seem to get anything to work

[CS3] Odd Behavior In Simple Photo Filmstrip
Hey all.

So I am definitely not competent with code in any significant way, and although I am confident that this code is even Action Script 2, I am not certain.

A client has requested that I make a simple rolling filmstrip that loops with pictures. For this I searched the Internet for hours looking for a tutorial or a downloadable Flash file that has something close to what I want. Surprisingly, amid the dozens of purchasable applications and such I stumbled across, it seemed that none had exactly what I was wanting, which seems simple.

Anyway, I was able finally to find something useful. It allowed me to do what I wanted fairly simply. However, there are two things that I cannot figure out.

The original "template" file was designed so that the filmstrip moves automatically, but when the cursor is hovered over the strip, the speed of the movement increases either way relative to how close to either horizontal edge the cursor is.

I went in and edited the code to turn that off. Now, the strip stops moving whenever the cursor is on the left side of the strip, and starts when it is on the right side. Also, the strip does not start automatically on most browsers I have viewed it on.

So, my question is, what's going on? I looked at the code for anything that looks relevant, and I can't figure it out.

Creating Simple Photo Gallery
Hi,

I'm trying to create a simple photography portfolio in Flash 8, whereby the user clicks on a thumbnail and the image fades up. I have 24 thumnails, so do I need to create 24 different 'fading image' movie clips, or is there an easier way to do this? Is it possible to create one movie clip and then just update the image within it?

I'm quiet a newbie so i might be missing somehting here...

I've used kirupa's 'Photo Gallery Using XML and Flash' tutorial & modified to make my gallery, you can view it here: ZedMedia.org by clicking on the photos section in the main page. what i want to do is, instead of reaching the end of all my photos and it stopping, i want it to go back to the beginning image & start all over again. i want the opposite to appen at the start. when the previous_btn is pressed i want it to go to the end of the gallery.

I'm sure this shouldn't be too hard & would be grateful for any help

I've got a button in a movie clip which is then placed on the second frame on my stage.

Now I should be able to use that button by attaching my code to the frame 1 of the stage right??

Simple Navigation?
I am having trouble getting my buttons to work.

This is the AS I have put in the actions timeline that applies to my buttons named 'but_one':

but_one.onRelease = function () {
gotoAndStop('one');
};

I have two more buttons - but_two & but_three.

The movie starts on frame 1.

If you click button one it goes to frame 5/'one'.
If you click button twoit goes to frame 10/'two'.
If you click button three it goes to frame 15/'three'.

However if you click on a button that will take you backwards - i.e. you are at frame 10 and click to go to frame 5 it will not move.

Any ideas why this is?

Hi,
what's the simplest way to navigate within one timeline? I have a simple 5 page site and in a code layer, I assigned this script for each button:
Home_button.onPress = function(){
gotoAndStop("home");

So when I tested the movie, I realized that I need something to make the playhead not move until something is clicked. Right? Do I still need to go into the actions for each button and say something like gotoAndPlay...? Please explain this in newbie terms. Thank you!!

Simple Questions RE: Photo/Thumbnail Script
I've got the following script, which works well. It creates a portfolio of thumbnails from a database -- and will display the fullsize photo in the photoMC movieclip when selected.

Question: What would be the best way to go ahead and display the first (fullsize) photo in the database in the photoMC movieclip? Where's the best place to put this?

I'm making a simple photo gallery using the great easing tutorial by Voetsjoeba. There's a bar movieclip with buttons inside, the buttons are numbers 1-20. When you click on a number, the bar slides into an X position, bringing that number to the center of a highlighted area. Then there's a next and a previous arrow to advance one by one. Pretty simple... But I'm still learning my variables so I'm not sure how to make the next and previous buttons work.

I have the X positions defined for each number like this:
nX1 = 393;
nX2 = 340;
etc.

Then I'm moving each number like this:
//n2 is the instance name of the #2 button
bar.n2.onRelease = function(){
_root.bar.easeX( nX2, 1.35 );
nextX = nX3;
prevX = nX2;
}
bar.n2.onRelease;


And the next button works like this:
Bnext.onRelease = function(){
_root.bar.easeX( nextX, 1.35 );
}

Since the movie starts with #1,
nextX = nX2;

And it does go to the next number, but only once, as it's not updating the value of nextX, same goes for the previous button. I feel like there must be an easy way to do this, but I can't figure it out... Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Simple Navigation Problem
I'm sure there's an easy answer to this problem:

I have a movieclip instance named "rogmovie" which loads onto the main timeline.

"rogmovie" controls a small animation inside another movieclip which loads onto the main timeline as well, called "coucilmov"

inside of "councilmov" there is a small 15 frame animation which starts at the frame 5 with the label "rogerbio".

At Frame 15 there is a button that fades in that is supposed to make the movie go back to frame 1 of the "councilmov" clip. Frame one has a "stop();" action applied to it so that when it loads, nothing shows until another movieclip commands it to.

My problem is that when click the button inside the "councilmov" clip,
it goes back to the "rogerbio" frame label and replays the animation instead of going back to frame 1 (where nothing is displayed).

There is also a "stop();" action applied to the keyframe where the button instance resides (on frame 19), to keep the movie from going back to frame 1 where nothing is displayed.

My actions on the button are set up as follows:

on (press){
gotoAndStop(1);
}
--------------

My Actions on the Keyframe:
--------------
stop();
--------------

This looks like it would work... but God only knows why it doesn't... is there something I'm doing wrong?

Simple Navigation Menu

I want to create a movie that has 5 options in a navigation menu:

When you click on them a picture/video/sound list comes up...

Simple Keyframe Navigation
Does anyone have a good way of moving back and forward through keyframes when playing a movie.

I made this very simple one, using the LEFT and RIGHT keys.... But it does funny things.

A Simple Navigation Menu
you know like the one here on Flashkit. Like this...

"Flash Kit Community Forums > Flash Help > Flash Actionscript"

I can step back ... it's nice and simple but I have no idea where to start.

The catch is... I want to use an external text file to create the menu items AND I want to navigate back and forward... something like this...

"Category1>>Category2>>..."

I wanted the menu to progress like so...

"Main Menu>>Catergory2>>SubCat1>>SubCat2..."

I know this might sound simple but I can seem to find a precedence. Can anyone give good me source for a starting point? Honestly anything would be helpful.

Need Some Navigation Tips. It Seems So Simple
Hey guys, I have been using flash for a while and have only recently started trying my luck with ActionScript.
I read in a book that if you can describe what you want to do with your movie accuratly, chances are it is possible with actionscript. Unfourtunately I find myself in a bit of a dilema.

On my movie I have 5 different movie clips that are links to different pages on my website. All five of these movieclips look like volume knobs and when you click on one, the knob will rotate as if you were turning the volume up. I have no problem with this process.

I will give the five knobs the name knob1 knob2 knob3 knob4 and knob5. The problem I have is after clicking on knob1, when I click on knob2, knob1 still stays in its activated state. What I want to happen is, after you activate knob1, and then you activate knob2, I want knob1 to turn down and return to its unactivated state. I want this to happen with all the buttons.

Each knob has 30 frames. Keyframes 1 and 30 are in the unactivated state, and Keyframe 15 is in the activated state. The 30 frame movieclip is all motiontweened.

I hope I have described my situation well enough, if not please let me know.

Navigation Problem (simple)
i came across this useful navigation example by pellepiano (see file attached) which zooms in when user clicks on button/segment of the menu

I wondered if pellepiano or anyone could help me to get the nav to zoom out?
each of the squares is a button and it zooms in when clicked.

Simple Navigation Trouble
but it's driving me crazy.! Haven't fooled around with flash since flash 5 and now I am running MX 2004 Pro. I'm having simple navigation trouble.

I have MC on the main stage (MainMC) and inside MainMC I have a movie called skinTone so I can change the skintone of the model see LINK. Inside skinTone MC I have five labels "light, dark" etc... I cannot get th code to work. The button (change skintone) is located inside MainMC.

Please help it's driving me crazy.

I have tried

on (release) {
_root.MainMC.skinTone.gotoAndStop("light");
}

and about 5 others. what am I doing wrong? oh wonderful flash gurus. It's driving me nuts. *runs out of thread embarrassed

Problem With Simple Navigation
this is how my flash is setup, on the root i have 2 frames, frame 1 is the opening home page of the site with an action layer with a stop(); frame 2 is another page, seperate from the homepage, this page also has its own stop();

the buttons that control this are in a mc called 'fruit buttons' and the button that should control the root to go from frame 1 to frame 2 has this code:

this should work but doesnt, so when i run this swf the home page comes up perfect, but if i push the button to go to frame 2, it goes to frame 2 then switches back to frame 1, then 2, then 1, then 2. it is totally disregarding the stop actions I put on the root frames. any help? thanks

Logic For A Simple Navigation Bar
Hey all, sorry I cannot help today because I am having my own Flash/Brain melt-down. Okay, I am going nuts trying to figure out the logic for a simple navigation bar. It needs to:

When you rollover main nav button, subNav buttons appear underneath it. I have this working with AlphaTo AS tween, when you rolloff the main nav btn or the sub nav button they all dissapear in around a second.

I have tried this and keep getting jacked results. I have attached the FLA if you want to take a look under the hood.

Navigation Bar - Simple But Stuck
This is probably an easy thing to do, but I'm stuck.

Basically it works, but when you roll out of the button areas the pink fill is meant to lower back down again - how would you do this?

onRollOut or something, but I've no idea how to make it work,

Simple Navigation Question?
Is it me or does the navigation on the sony site seem very quick and smooth? It has a lot of links within the nav itself but seems very responsive and smooth.

I know this is one of the oldest nav. interfaces but Can anyone point me in the right direction on a tutorial for this type of nav?

Simple Navigation Mess
Hi everyone,
Im getting in a real mess with my actionscript here.
All im trying to do is get flash to play the current page exit mc before heading to the intro mc of the button clicked.
I cant figure out how to get flash to 'remember' the button clicked and i can only seem to get the playhead to play the exit mc at framelabel 'homeout" and then it comes to a standstill and doesnt detect the conditional statement ive put at the end.
Ive tried using the help within flash but im a bit of a newbie so i find it all a bit overwhelming!
This is the code i have on the main timeline when the menu has finished loading:

AS3 Simple Button Navigation
Hi could anyone help hint on how to do this using AS.3.

I understand how to create simple buttons as reuseable classes, but how could you create a next button that does something similar to the AS2 "goto and stop nextframe", and a back button that does something similar to the AS2 "go to and stop previous frame".

Extra: on each frame that the user navigates to, is a movie clip, within that movie clip is then another button with a go to and play "Frame Label" action required, that navigates within the movieclip to a specific frame.

I'm at a complete loss about this. Please can someone help ...
