Site Is Slow
Hi
I have made my new site as a full flash site.
After I had made the site I put a preloader in the start, my problem is that when it has loaded the site the motion tweens are very slow?
To make it run in the right way you have to update your browser.
The preloader runs in the first 2 frames in the flash file and when the site has loaded it jumps to the third frame and stop. <- that's how I made the preloader.

Why Does My Site Run Slow?
Can anyone tell me why my site slows up as the buttons appear on the screen? I'm using a preloader. The problem only started happening when I included the 'contact' section. Is this a cpu issue? I used Flash MX to make the site. Will MX 2004 make any changes? Who's got answers?

so my website is loading pretty slow and i was wondering if there are any ways to make it faster. How important is the size of the images i "save for web"? If some are between 200 and 300 dpi is that way too big and possibly slowing the site down?

Help My Site Is Too Slow
Hi Everyone,
I'm a photographer and I'm making a website to showcase my photography and advertise for photograpy and design jobs.
To make the site load more quickly I have saved each photo gallery page as an individual swf and I'm using loadMovieNum to load them into the site and level._visible to hide alternate galleries once they've been loaded so that they don't need to be reloaded each time the user looks at a gallery.
Because the site was still too slow I tried instead loading each image as a png (with loadMovieNum) but unfortunately that took even more time, so I'm back to the arrangement I mentioned above.
I've compressed the movie and lowered the jpg quality in my publish settings but there is no point in me compressing the images in photoshop because the images will look like crap and no one will want to hire me
(My images are all 380px w or h at 72ppi)
Is there another way to compress the movie size or pre-load the movies? I tried using the code below to preload the movies but I end up seeing the 'personal.swf' and the rest of my movie gets screwed up.

Slow Site

I'm making an 800x600 site. All the contents are in 1 big movieclip of about 2000x2500 pixels. The navigation is done by scrolling; when a button is pressed the site scrolls to a certain point.
The site is at 30fps, but when it scrolls, the framerate drops to about 2fps. There are some (necessary) alpha fx, and some bitmaps (png's with alpha channel) so i guess it's too heavy for scrolling/moving the whole thing smoothly.
Is there a way to make this scrolling smooth? Like maybe there is an action that can move the site's container instead of the content? Ore one that temporarily lowers the resolution?
I tried the scrolling with a slideTo prototype and with a simple movieclip animation, both are just as slow.
Any help? I only know (less than) basic flash. Thanks in advance.

I need to find a way to decrease file size of flash web site. Any suggestions? Also, I want to load each scene separately and am having troubles with action script. Slow Site Loading
When I use some pretty flash effects for my site, it doesn't load as smoothly when you get to the site. The site actually freezes for about 5 seconds then begins to load everything else on the site up.
I've seen other sites with flash effects in them and they load nice and smoothly compared to mine.

Can You Let Me Know If This Site Loads Slow?
Here's a site that I'm working on and I have it set up to go from one html page to another. On some computers the second page loads right up but on others it goes very slowly. I tried adding a preloader but it doesn't seem to help. It still shows a blank screen while loading the html and then the preloader pops up quickly and goes straight to the flash file. I'm not exactly sure why, but my guess is that it is because it is trying to load the actual html page before it tries to load the swf file so the swf file doesn't actually need a preloader the html does. That might make no sense, but oh well. Anyways. So take a look and let me know if the speed is alright on your computer and if you have any suggestions. Also, let me know if you can create a preloader in dreamweaver that will show during the html page loads instead of the swf file.
There is only one button that works from the home page so rollover "portfolio" and then go over and click on "print advertising."

Site Loading Really Slow
I've been at this for the last 2 days and I can't figure out why this is happening. I built this site http://www.blueprintglobal.com and at home when i view it, it loads fairly quickly (approx. 3-4 sec each page) but at work the site is loading really really slow (approx. 2-3 mins each page). Im on wireless on both home and work, and i've had a few people tested it out for me, but it's really mixed responses, it's either it loads really fast or really really slow.
I'm stumped.
Each page is approx 150kb in size, so I'm thinking that's not very big. Can someone help me please???!

I have been finding that some Flash sites that play real fast on a PC computer play ultra slow on a Mac? Even a PC on basic DSL is faster than a Mac on T1. The Flash sites were produced using Flash on a PC computer?

Flash Site Slow On Load...
Hey everyone,
So I finished my site finally, but it seems to be super duper slow. I believe that one reason is probably becuase the placed images in the external swf files are too large in size(?), but then there are other areas of the site that load slowly also, (and they have no images what so ever) and when you let it all load, and then go back to that page on the site, it works fine. What the heck? Can somebody take a look at my site and let me know what they think the problem might be and what to do about making it load faster and/or smoother? They're all external swf files that load into the main movie, but I'm not looking to use preloaders for each one, unless I really really need to. And then I will have to I guess. [MX04] Site Running Slow... Any Advice?
Hello all,
I'm working on a site in which a gradient background changes colors each time a nav button is clicked. My code is right and everything is working fine, but the transitions are taking forever and are slowing down everything else on the stage. I'm using a lot of onClipEvents to accomplish what I need. Is there a better way to do what I want to do without everything slowing down? Also, is my use of 6 different gradient backgrounds causing the slowdown? It's only slow during the transition, and then the speed returns to normal.
Here is what I have going on:
I have a shell movie clip in which I have loaded my background movies into an array. Basically, I created 6 movie clips inside the shell and loaded each bg into its own clip. Then I set the alpha on 5 of them to 0. My button code tells the button on release to fade the alpha settings down if any of the mcs are at 100 and fade any of them up if they are at 0. When the code is enabled, the correct target I want which is set at 0 fades up to 100, while all the others fade down. Since only 1 bg is at 100 at any given time, the other onClipEvents do nothing, but I didn't see another way to accomplish it since I have no idea which button the user will push next.

Flash Site Slow And Buggy, Any Advice?
I started a site with Timeline Animations and it was really buggy and slow on most connections, went in to alleviate the problem and changed to ActionScript Tweens through out. I have only 1 frame in the movie and still have speed and functionality issues.

Videos On Video Site Too Slow To Load
Hello,
I've been experiencing an increase in video load time on my video site recently. basically what happens is this:
1) video starts buffering in small increases
2) video starts playing
3) video stops as it has reached the buffering percentage
4) buffering starts again

Check Site... Is It Running Super Slow?
hey fellow flashers, just want to get some advice on my site before i go to much further. It seems to run ultra smooth on 1.5-2GHz machines, but dog slow on anything less. Or at least in the testing environment I have locally. It seems especially slow on some Macs.
I used all scripting (not a single tween) and custom functions by incorporating mc_tween methods from zeh's mctween actions which are based off of Penner's equations (I believe).
Basically I'm curios to know slow or fast is it running on different processor and platforms and are there any suggetions or fixes that I should consider.

Data Driven Flash Site Going Very Slow
i'm making a data driven website, and am having trouble because flash seems to be displaying the data very slow.
i'm using flash mx 2004 professional and the newest versions of php and mysql. i'm using OS X 10.3.7 on a MAC g5
my flash site retrieves information from a mysql database using php, however, flash displays the information very slow.
i have tested retreiving the data using only php (without the flash part) and it works fine over the internet.
also, my site works really fast when i run it locally, but only in safari, not internet explorer. internet explorer seems to freeze up when i run it.
i am attaching a zip file which contains all the files used on the website.

to view the part where the data is retrieved, click on the "Exhaust" menu, and then mufflers. clicking on a muffler queries the part number and sends back the dimensions.
i would appreciate any help anybody can give me. i can't figure out why it's running so slow.

My Flash Site Seems To Load Soooo Slow And Other Kinks
Hello. I have been reading these boards off and on for the past six months. I am So nervous to finally ask a question. I hope you will all be so nice and help me out.
I am working on creating an interactive photo album of our wedding pictures. I want it to be available on my website and I also want to burn it to disk so we can pop it into a dvd player and watch it too. I am trying to make it just like opening up a scrapbook.... with both pictures with captions and videos on some "pages" too. I have really gotten a great start BUT... I have been to similar sites and they seem to load so much faster than mine. Might I have a few problems with my preloader ?? Maybe its playing over and over unnecessarily? I would also like to make it more interesting but I am afraid it would then take too long to load!
I batched all my photos in Fireworks first. I did it with different specs in different "chapters"... so some pics look great and others look very rough. I was trying to compromise the quality of the pics for a faster load time, but it doesn't seem to have helped. I am not happy with the quality in some areas now.
Also the music loops back on top of itself and sounds awful the second time through? I think its happening because it starts again when it reaches the end and two versions are playing at once???? I have tried to fix it several times. Its very nerve wracking to listen to!! There are still lots of kinks. I want to further develop this project, but want to find out how to fix these issues before I go on to develop the other "chapters" of the scrapbook.

Uploading Flash Files-slow To Take Effect On Site
When I upload my flash files (FLA & SWF) to my server, the flash files usually take days to take effect on the website. My last revisions haven't taken effect (shown up on my site) for over a week now... Am I missing something??? I found it running not so smooth on some computers. Any tips on optimizing, the main background is pretty big but ive seen other sites with major backgrounds lots of happening running pretty smooth.
One idea i had was to create a MASK thats the stage height and width .. anyone know if that would slow it all down or speed it up..

Large Images / Alfa Tween / Slow Slow Slow... Help Please
I'm working on a site at the moment and one of the main eyecatchers is there is a slideshow-type of animation running in the background the whole time.
There's a dozen (large in pixels, but not in kb) .jpgs that have a minute long fade between images, a few seconds pause and then onto the next fade.
I've tried just making a normal alfa tween, I've tried making the slideshow as a seperate .swf, I've tried dynamic images with .xml, I've even tried making the .fla background transparent and making the slideshow on the html page using javascript.
But all make the site run very slowly. Text scrolling is slow, short rollover animations are slow, etc. etc.
My question is: Is there a way of making a super light alfa tween with large images?
99% of the threads regarding slideshows here at Flashkit have many views but no replies. I need help, and soon. Many many thanx to anyone that can point me in the right (or any) direction.

SLOW SLOW External Text File
Hi,
I have created a .fla that consists of 3 scenes, each of which contains the same scrolling text box that loads the same external text file. The .fla is fairly CPU intensive already, and maybe the addition of the text pushed it over the edge, but when it plays, the text takes a long time to load when switching scenes (the text box appears, but it takes up to 30 seconds to load the text depending on the computer I use), and the scrolling is hit-and-miss.
My questions are:
1) Would it be faster if I hard-coded the text right into the textbox?
2) Should I get rid of the other 2 scenes and put everything into 1 scene?
3) Any suggestions?

Slow...slow...slow Animation
hey guys,
im making an animation to a voiceover.
i want to sync the images with the voice.
it seems everytime i play the movie (i am publishing it as an exe to view because this is to be my final platform), the images play at a different speed.
what is this and how do i fix it?
also, does the way i have put the audio in make any difference to the speed it all plays back at?at the moment ive just got it on its own layer in the timeline.

Newbie Needing Some Site Building Guidance - How To Structure A Site?
I need a little help - I am designing an art portfolio in Flash, and so I need it to be a site that has a few different pages that are linked between each other - you know, common sense. I really have no idea how to go about structuring that. I've been doing well at animations and buttons and ActionScript and all kinds of things in Flash, but I just don't understand how to make several pages that are part of the same document. Do you use scenes, or different "projects" within the document, or what? And then how do you link to them - just like it was any other URL?
I GUESS I mean, how do you design in Flash using a home page and then other pages to navigate to?

Help Finishing Up My First Flash Site - Using Navigation To Display Different Sections Of The Site?
Thanks for looking! i am making my first flash site, and im not sure what to do next in regards to navigating through the site. I have different sections, home, info, hardware, equipment, etc, but im not sure how to make each section appear when you click the corresponding navigation link. i have an idea but im not sure how to execute it.
Should i make a movie clip for each section (home, info, hardware, contact), then place each movie clip in its own frame on the main time line, and on each navigation link button (each one is a movie clip) use action script and put a gotoAndPlay() code with the frame number of the corresponding section? so when you click it, it goes to that frame which has the movie clip that has the content for that part of site, say contact, or info?? if so how can i do this?
that sounds really confusing and im sorry but please help out a beginner! Thank you and happy halloween!

Need To Retrieve Site URL (http Referrer) Of The Site My Flash Player Is Placed On

I am trying to implement a custom flash player where my embedded source code (<OBJECT></OBJECT>) can be placed on various websites. I would like to gather some information of the users who are using my flash player on their site. I wrote the following code inside the flash player to gather the site URL (http referrer) so I can send this piece of information back to my server.

Full Flash Site - Site Architecture Problem
Sorry for this post, but i'm really having trouble grasping the idea of multiple clips, transitions and the scripting to make it all happen.
I have been fiddling with flash for over 3 years now and should be alot farther along, I just wish i had spent as much time on flash as I have on Photoshop.
I now have my own domain, and want to make a fully flash site, as imageReady rollovers just don't get it for me anymore and I want to make a nice site with some impact...queue the flash guru's
The site i'm looking at and want to model as an experiment is www.desalledesigns.com
as far as I can tell, I need the following movie clips
1. transition (to include a preloader... close one content, preload scene, open next content)
2. content1
3. content2
4. content3
5. intro (actually would be a scene)
6. and so on.
is there a tutorial around that dives into this type of site organization?
