Flash :: Sizing Question

Sizing Photos For An Auto Sizing Gallery
I want to put together a flash gallery of photography for my photography business. I am very good at Photoshop design, html, css, javascript but I am a novice with flash. I can use it and use some actionscripting but my knowledge is limited.

I see galleries like this one: http://www.jeshderox.com/

The images expand and contract perfectly as the browser is resized. I am used to having to size pics for the lowest res screens (I design for 1024 width resos's usually).

What size should I make pictures to work like this... Does flash scale them down / up / either... are there quality issues with letting flash manage the sizing.

Add any answers to thoughts you know I should have asked...

I'd like to use flash to construct either animated banners or graphics. Do I need to construct them within a certain size (pixels) within flash (and if so, how? Can't find resize anywhere!!!), or do I just make them in a bigger scale and then set the display size within the HTML code? The main concern is filesize, as some projects rely on quick loading pages, but still want flash.

In essence: How do I restrict the physical size (pixels) of my flash creation?

Few questions regarding the size of Flash animations (pixel dimensions).

1. Can't find a resize funtion anywhere, so how do I set the space available for the creation of flash anims?

2. If you don't need to specify size when making anims in flash, what happens to all the leftover white space? Will it still appear when I put it on my page? And if so, how do I solve that?

Mainly related to the construction of banners and logos, as I need to make them a certain size. For instance: if I leave a bunch of white space in a gif around the bits I want, the white space will be displayed no matter how big I make the overall image because it's part of the file. How's that work with Flash files?

Hi,

I opened up a .gif in Flash.

I now have put it into a .swf by publishing it. Only problem is, my swf is huge. It is normal width and height like my gif was. I mean, the swf isn't distorted it just has a huge white space.

In flash is there a way to resize or crop?

How can I set my Flash documents size to fit the window when a user views the flash no matter their resolution. I've been switching my res back and forth to different sizes viewing sites I've made and I really was dissapointed to see a few of the outcomes on really large or really small res. How can I make my Fla documents scroll to fit the window properly or very close no matter the res it's being viewed on? Thanks in advance

Web Sizing
A little off the topic of flash, but I was wondering if anybody knew how to make a website where the display would be the same whether the viewer had a resolution of 1024x768 or 800x600. An example would be this website that I'm writing in: it looks the same in both resolutions.

Pop Up Sizing
Hi All!

I just created a portfolio website and in my video section I have a few animations that when you click on them, they open in a new window. The problem is that when they open, they open at full screen and the images get stretched. Is there any way that I can set the size of the pop up window to the size of the animation - so that it won't maximize?

(They are swf files)

Sizing
I have published my flash movie into an HTML file to make it my home page. I am having difficulty with sizing. When I go online to view the site, the swf is centered and there is quite a bit of extra background. I want IE window to open to the exact size of the site when initial access is made. I dont want any of that extra background that the HTML file creates. I scaled the site to 100% by 100% when I published it, but I still get that extra background. How do I correct that?

Im building a site for a client in flash 5. Ive built it for the html preview so it will have the scroll bars . My problem is when I preveiw it in html on my computer, it pops up exactle the way it should, but when i open it on another computer its shrunk down like 30 %.
Im suppoesed to send the site to the client and dont want him to open it and see a tiny site, I want him to see it full screen like it appears on my preveiw, any suggestions? Please.

Is there a setting for HTML in flash 5 that will have my site open correctly on any computer? When I preveiw my site in HTML it opens correctly,when I open it on another computer it opens srunk down like
40%.

Sizing Swf In New Fla
Hi..
I create animated ebooks for children reading programs with flash --- these flash fla's are sized 600/400... I would like to be able to show these swfs inside a flash gallery page.. but am unsure if I can do this. Can you use loadmovie and define the size of the swf inside another fla? I am sorry if this is confusing. Any thoughts or suggestions or even script to make this happen, if possible?

Web Sizing
I have made my first flash web site and am having a problem with sizing. I have the pixels set at 800 width and 2000 Hight Is there a setting I may have missed to make it fit the screen on the web ( at least in width )or is this something I must do in Dreamweaver? The way it is set up now it comes up half the size of the page.

I have a link from an SWF to make an html window pop up into a new window ('_blank')

How can you specify the pixel width and height of the pop up window? I assume you do it in the action script?

I'm attempting to load various external swf files into an empty MC. Each external swf is a different size (height and width). I need each externally loaded swf to be the same width, but for the length to adjust automatically so it doesn't look distored.

The MC is called "victory" and each external swf has the same name - "quick"

I've tried numerious script combinations without great sucess.

Any helpful suggestions would be great

Newbie needing help with sizing.

Basically I am using a mc with a scroll bar and have images that scroll, I need to get a lot of images in but at present they go out to the end of the grey area that flash gives you and i can only fit in about 5 or 6 images, I have already expanded the grey area by moving the images further to the right but now it will not expand anymore. I still need to get more images in ... how do i expand the grey further out so I can get more images in?

I did not notice untill recently, but my computer monitor is huge, and apparently my website does not look the same on smaller monitors. Is there a way to fix this. Also, it down't size the same in I.E. as firefox

Sizing Up
is there a way to see how big each element in an exported swf is? I just exported a movie that i thought would be about 70k and it exported as 141k. I'm wondering which elements specifically are exportiong so heavily. Is there an itemized list somewhere on export?

Best Sizing For 800 X 600?
I'm composing for 800 x 600. I'd rather people not have to scroll like crazy to see everything. On average, what's the most efficient setting (width and height) ... using as much of the screen as possible, without scrolling being necessary?

I would like to resize a animated sequence done in flash. and I am having trouble working out how to do this.
I can resize each individual frame, but I feel that there must be a way of re-sizing the whole sequence.

How would I say:

Sizing Different Frames Of A MC
Ok, I have a MC with 4 frames, in each frame is different a different picture. Each picture is a different size.
Now lets say the user is looking at frame 1 of the MC, they have the option to zoom in and around. When they zoom they are really just making the MC bigger. All good. Now when they goto the next frame they picture will be zoomed to what ever it was that the last picture was zoomed at. I need a way of telling the clip to zoom to 100%.

Self Sizing Textfield
I have a 'database' stored in an array, containing userinformation. some fielddata is short, but others are longer and thus spanning multiple lines.

The labels of the fields and the fielddata are added dynamically (using attachMovie), so that the fields (and order) being layed out can be changed at any time.

Now here is the problem:

every item is the same movieclip (which is attached using attachMovie). This clip has 2 textareas (variables as you wish) that are called label and textarea. Ofcourse the label is the fieldname and textarea the fields data.
That last one is the problem. With long fielddata my text is cut off by the size of the rectangle containing the text. Obviously I don't want that to happen. I want it to size accordingly.

A new instance of the clip has to be put directly under the last one, so that each clip has it's own length, not a fixed one.

Because the 'database' is loaded from a #include file occasionaly, it's fieldlength is unpredictable...

What am I doing wrong using the texttool, or how can I come by this problem ??

Having Trouble With Sizing
Hi,

I have Swish version 2.0, and I've been trying to make a small banner. I put the correct dimensions in the fields, but it never works. When I play it in my browser it takes up the entire screen, and does the same thing when I try uploading it. The size I'm trying for is roughly 400x100, as well as 100x100.

An easier question might be: How do many of the posters go about making the small .swf banners that they use in their posts?

Sizing The Page
I just started flash a week ago and I made an intro page but when I put it on the server, the page is small. When I stretch it or change the resolution, then the line stays in the middle when it's supposed to go from one side to the other. Also when I type in the url the movie jump starts too fast, any way I can add a couple of "wait" seconds in the beginning at this stage?

Re-sizing, But Not Re-working...
Is it possible to resize the whole piece of work as opposed to just the stage, because I want to change the size of the stage but don't want to have to re apply all of the instances, effectivley re animating the whole thing...
The proportions are going to change too, from either 125x125, or 468x60 to 120x60.
It doesn't appear to be just a case of multiple frame selection and resizing skewing etc...
Any thoughts?...

Embedding Adn Sizing Help
I'm a real newb when it comes to this. I embedded a .swf file into my website. The problem is when the actual movie loads, it ways too small. I'd like the view the movie on my site as it appears nice and large when I originally made it. Can someone give me a quick solution to this besides going back and resiezing everything one by one through my layers.

Projector Re-sizing
Hey folks -

I've got a nicely built projector here. Problem is - it's too darned large. I've published the thing at 800x600, and it needs to be 400x300.

So... how the heck can I re-size the thing (fscommand?) at another SPECIFIC size, without having to go and alter every last element?

Sizing MC's With Actionscript
Hello All. I am moving the x position of an MC with actionscript and its working great I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to size and MC with actionscript. I have tried the _width property but it sizes the whole movie and not just the MC. Currently this is how I have the code set up.

On the MC I have this code:

onClipEvent (load) {
toX = _x;
ease = 8;
}
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
_x += (toX-_x)/ease;
}

How can I change the width of the MC ind when I send it to a new x position? I thank anyone in advance for a reply!

Sizing Stuff
I'm sure this is a question with a really obvious answer but I can't seem to figure it out, so here it goes...

I have created several web interfaces using MX and my screen is set to 1024x768 and it looks great, only problem is when I publish it on the web it seems to be larger on everyone elses computers, even if the have set their resolution to 1024x768 as well. it seems so big that often they can't see the whole page. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as well as any needed code. Thanks in advance!

*Sizing Pop Up Window From SWF*
Can someone tell me where i can fix the size of a popup window? I looked over some tutorials with javascript but since I want to apply to a swf file instead of a html file, i cannot just copy and paste the script.

What i want to do exactly is:

i have a main swf on level_0, then another swf file on level_1. on the level_1 swf file, there will be a button. and when you click on this button, it'll pop up an html file. i can do it with the "Get URL" function without problem. but my question is, how can i specify the size of the popup linked from a button on the swf?

Variable Pop-up, Sizing
I'm making a website in the following order:

1. Index.html (check's Flash-plugin and redirects to J.html)
2. J.html (short movie and gives a button wich opens to main-site J2.html)
3. J2.html is a flash website wich opens in a pop-up.

My first question is: How can i let this J2.html open in a semi-fullscreen (WITH the Resizable bar on top so the visitor can choose the size)I use the following code for the pop-up, but if add the code 'fulscreen=yes' the resizeable-bar is gone.

Re-sizing Masks
Hi Guys

I have a movie clip that has a scolling list of dynamically populated movie clips. Above this layer is a mask layer.

I want to be able to use this movie clip in more than one place with a different numbers of movie visible. To do this I need to be able to re-size the mask. I tried turning the mask into a movie clip but this meant I could not see any of the scolling movie clips underneath.

How do I make a mask that I can control the size of in code?

Dynamic Txt Box Sizing?
I've made my own txt ticker, and it works well save one problem-

The size of the dynamic text box is static, which is fine if I'm always putting in the same amount of text, but prob is the amount will change. If I make a huge text box, I have to resize for less text, and vice versa. I'm loading the text from an external text file. Is there a way for me to specify the width of the txt box in the external file? Give it an instance and specify that width with a number? I can't seem to get it.

If I have a flash file that was designed for 500 px wide and 200 px high, how do I have it resize to the browser automatically to stretch to the whole window but retain the ratio?

Sizing A Browser
Hello out there,
I've created a flash movie that plays in full browser size. I have a smaller swf movie that i want to open in a separate smaller broswer window, 400 x 300. So far everything works correctly but then when I click out of the smaller window and open a new window the new window opens as 400 x 300.
How do I make it so that when I click out of the small window and open a new window the new window will be normal size?

Image Sizing
I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial (book or online) or source code for that effect were the background of the image (basically the site) scales in motion to accomodate the image that you have selected. It' showing up more and more, so there has to be some info out there. Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find out how to get my site to size the right way...

I coded my site in 1024x768 (i think) but there seems to be a problem for people who have 800x600 seem to have alot of trouble viewing the site... is there any way that i can get my flash loader to read what the browser info reads and then allow it view the right version?? i.e. read that the user has 800x600 then load the correct version?

I recently posted a request on how to scale your Flash movie in an html browser ie. when you move the handles of your html page the flash movie scales accordingly...
Thankfully, someone very kindly responded with the answer:

In the html page (or properties in flash when you publish your file as html) set the width and height of your file to 100% and set Scale to ShowAll.

This worked but never mind which option i chose to use there was always a border around the movie, how can i get the movie to completely fill the html page with no space around the size?
I tried, no border, show all etc but to no avail...

well, I got a problem ... i've asked this before thought I had fixed it but ... if I have my hero resize when i press up or press down to make him move. now instead of when I press the button I just want him to only resize when the y axis changes ... can anyone give me the code to do this.

i'm thinking that the empty mc sizes it self to what ever you put in it, but what do i know, i can't even publish a movie correctly.
