Sound File Too Large

Hi,

has anyone else had problems importing a long tune into Flash 2004? I can get a 51min sound file as far as the library, but can't drag it into the timeline. Is there anyway around it?

Cheers
Scott

What's The Best Way To Attach A Large Sound File?
I want to attach a sound file and have several cuepoints that will cause certain movies to play as the sound file plays.

I've looked into this and think I'm right in saying that you can't have an external sound file, like you can have an external Flash video file?
Is this true?

What would be the best way to attach my large sound file?

One way which I thought I could do what I need: create a Flash video file, don't show the video file and just play it... and then use Flash video's cuepoints.
Is this a good way to do what I want?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Large Sound File In A Flash Presentation
Hi All,

We are trying to create a flash presentation that uses voice overs. This is to demo a product.

The problem we face is that the sound files for the voice overs are quite huge(over 3MB) and as this demo needs to be online the size is a no-no unless the sound is streamed along with the flash.

So was wondering how we can stream the sound file along with the flash animation.

Would i need to add some specific server side software to do this?

Any help would help.

Making Large Sound File Visible On The Timeline
I'm trying to create a digital poetry piece (spoken word and animated images) using Flash MX that will end up on a VCD (just because the files sizes are so enormous, it'd take year to download over the web). I have a huge spoken word narration for the piece (about 2-3 minutes long) that I've compressed from a wav file into an MP3 and imported onto a layer. It sits in the first frame of that layer. My experience with sound files in Flash 5 has been with small loops that are easy to edit because you can see the whole file stretching out across the frames of the layer.

I'm having two problems that I'd love help with:
1. I want to sync up the animations I'm doing on other layers with specific points in the narration. How can I make this sound file visible so as to sync the animations with the right moments?

2. I also want to be able to stop or, really, "pause" the narration at a certain point during which another smaller sound file will play (imported onto another layer), and when it ends, the narration file will resume to the end.

When I go into the sound properties panel, the sound file for the narration is all there, but I can't tell where the points are where I'd want to make it stop and start again because when it plays, the little indicator doesn't move along the file.

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me with either or both of these problems. The first one is the most critical. Thanks!

How Large Is Too Large For Flash File?
My flash file is already almost 1400 KB, and it's not even close to being done.
I realize this is obviously way too large for a flash website.

As a result, I have to start using the Load Movie action script method.
I hate to think I have to take this thing apart. I am new to loading external movie clips. It seems like a pain!

At what size do you realize that your flash is too large? Have you ever had to take something apart in order to do load movie clips?

Help Editing Large Sound Files?
Hi. I'm a newbie to Flash MX and I'm trying to create a digital poetry piece using Flash that will end up on a VCD (just because the files sizes are so enormous, it'd take year to download over the web). When I go into the properties panel, the sound file for the narration is all there, but I can't tell where the points are where I'd want to make it stop and start again because when it plays, the little indicator doesn't move along the file.

So--can anyone help me figure out how to stop/pause the narration layer file, play the smaller sound file on another layer, stop that, then resume the narration sound file?

I'd be very grateful. Thanks a lot--

Sound Clips Duplicated In SWF, Cause Large Sizes
The new Flash CS3 is duplicating identical edited streaming sound clips, creating unnecessarily large SWF files. Basically, if we put in exactly the same streaming sound clip into different movie clips repeatedly, the SWF file size increases proportionally. The new Flash compiler is not smart about pointing to the same clip.

In fact, it is possible to have an SWF file much larger than the original FLA: just put the same streaming sound clip over and over into different movie clips: the SWF file will grow far beyond the FLA or originally mp3 audio file size.

The older version of Flash we were using (MX 2004) did not have this problem.

We are using mp3 files at 24KBS, with clips edited down to a portion of the total mp3 clip, and inserted into the timeline of different movie clips as a streaming sound (repeat 0, no effects).

When Is A .swf File Too Large?
I'm in the middle of creating my flash website. At this point, I believe my total .swf file size will end up at around 200KB. Is this a bit too large for a single file?

As a general rule, around what file size should I use as a ceiling before I start cutting up the file into sections and loading them in when requested?

Large SWF File
Hello. I have this big fla file and exported it to a swf file but its still too big to view over the internet. There are a total of 10 scenes and some music. Is there any way that i can split this file into smaller files. Thanks

Opps... Sound Files Too Large For Flash Download
I hate posting this here but I have little luck in either the sound or mx forums. I need some help my sound file is too fat. Here is the situtation...

Basic issue is that my flash movie is way too big, my preload option sucks because it takes too long to download. Anyway I can break my movie down in tiny bits with out noticable gap between scene or smaller movies?

Okay here is the situtation...

I am doing a large flash demo for work (not a flash developer by trade). The flash consist of 12 scenes (made primarliy in Swish converted to swf's) with a combine 1 mb file size with background music looping in all scenes with scene specific voice overs sounds. At this time I have background sound of 2.8mb mp3 (I probably can cut it down to another 1 to 1.6mb) and voice overs of 2.4mb mp3 ( I can probably cut to 2.2mb).

I have tried all kind of sound compression tools and these sound files wont get any smaller. Is there a way to compress the files further?

My key concerns right now are:

1) with sound files this large how can I make sure that a viewer with a dial-up can view the flash without waiting a 1 hour for it

2) will these large files sounds mess up the syncing of voiceovers to animation in the Flash

I know there is a way to do load this large file strategically where the viewer doesnt have to wait hours for the file to download.

Any suggestions will be Great

No Video Only Sound After Importing/coverting Large MPEG4 To .fla
OK I have a DVD that a customer gave me and would like to break up the chapters and use it on the website. I am using Nero8 to recode it to MPEG4. I can view it fine when I import it into flash I see the video but when it starts to encode it I can not see it just a white screen. When I add the file to DW it just plays the sound and a white video screen and the file size is rather small for a 175mb file that was converted. I am using Flash CS3 Professional and have tried doing this direct in flash and w/ the encoder for flash. I even ran it through QT Pro and tried that file and same issue. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong.

I can get smaller files to work fine...but they are not recoded from a DVD. They are .avi

thanks

Compressing A Large XML File
Greetings.

I am downloading a relatively large (>300kb) XML text file into my Flash movie.

Has anyone tried to implement text decompression in Actionscript? I keep running into processor problems ("A script in this movie is causing Flash Player to run slowly...abort the script?")

Thanks,

Size Of Swf File Becomes Very Large
If i use japanese font in a dynamic text box and if i select the embed font out line option for all the characters, the size is becoming very large.

If i dont use this option, the characters are not becoming smooth.

Is there any workaround for it so that the size does not become large.

Large FIle Sizes
Hey Everyone.

I've been having a problem with the file sizes of my videos lately. Anytime I add any sort of song (even just a loop from Flashkit) my file size jumps up to like 5000kb! Maybe it's because they they're .wav files, does that make a difference? If someone could maybe point me towards a tutorial on downsizing the file sizes i'd really appreciate it.

Fla File Size Too Large
Hey, I made a flash file in which I imported a movie clip. After a few revisions, I deleted the movie from the FLA file, and removed it from the library. But the size of the fla file is still 22 MB, and I have no idea what could be making it so large. Is there a list of componets and their file sizes in Flash?

Any other ideas?

Large Project File..
is there any chance to make smaler projector file??? smaller than 900K + flas animation???

Large File Needs Dividing
My site has a simple format...A nice detailed background, a menu(just #'s 1-45) running down the side and photos that come up when one of the numbers is clicked on. The problem is the file is large, do to the photos. I have one preloader at the beggining of the file, but it takes way to long for the entire site to load. How would I set the movie up and the action script so the current preloader loads the background and the menu ONLY, and each photo to load on its own with it's own preloader.
I've seen it on every Flash web site on the web...so I would hope that this is an easy task.
thanks for any help,
JL

Large File Sizes
I create a lot of detailed Flash animation for broadcast. I am quite unsure of it's abitity to handle any file over 2mb, where it begins to bog down severly. I rarely use it for the web, but got used to it's interface. Now I look at ToonBoom for a solution but am not sure I want to learn that workflow as it looks more clunky than Flash. Is there any way to increase Flash's capabilities or should I look to another piece of software for more detailed Flash type animation. I'm using MX2004 PRO.

Sugg. For Using LARGE .txt File
I am posting this to request suggestions of a general nature. I hope to be able to work out the particular scripts for myself, but would benefit from some initial direction. I am developing an interactive timeline of the American colonial period, from 1460 to 1760 (early .swf posted here)

Each of the 300 frames in the main movie clip represents one calendar year. Each year might be accompanied by a brief narrative - not every year will have a narrative - of up to 100 words which will be displayed in a text field. I would like to use an external file to contain the narrative strings. In this way, info may be edited easily, without needing to open the .fla and republish.

It would be convenient (I think) to store the strings as an associative array, something like

1463=North America was inhabited by ...
&1492=In 1492, Columbus arrived ...
&1513=Spain claims Florida ...

...but I don't know if using numbers as array names even works. The strings could simply be assigned as elements in an array and the index of each element derived from the year:
narrativeText[index],
where index = myYear - 1463

narrativeText[0]="North America was inhabited by ..."
narrativeText[29]=""In 1492, Columbus arrived ..."
narrativeText[51]=""Spain claims Florida ..."

Actually, I don't know what works in this regard. Will beg your tolerence here: I have looked at tutorials, sought out articles, and read various threads here at FK's forums about .as files and xml and loadVariablesNum() and myArray.split(",")...; and have muddied myself up with each try.

What is a good way to approach this? (And thanks for sticking with me this long.)

Multiple .swf's Into 1 Large File
how can i add a bunch of seperate swf files together to make one large .fla?

i make all my different scenes of my animation in different files and want to mesh them together so its one file. and then have them be able to play seemlessly one after another like it was all made in one file.

does this have anything to do with adding the swf's to a project or anything?

thanx in advanced

Pre-loading A Large File
I have a 4mb file that I need pre-loaded. I have placed a preloader in scene1 that tells scene 2 to play when all data has been loaded.

Problem: When the html page loads, I see a white box where my flash eventually loads, but the white box is up for a while until finally my scene 1 preloader is visible but already 50% through the load.

Why isn't the preloader immediatly visible? What can i do to resolve?

Thanks!

Unusually Large SWF File
Usually my SWF files are a quarter of the size (or smaller) than the original FLA file. But today's original FLA file at 5.1MB only saved down to 3.9MB SWF file. All unused items in library were deleted. JPG quality at 75. (I need a better image because it's for a photography studio) Any other suggestions? Does rotating images (as symbols) take up a lot of extra size? Audio file is only about 75k of this file. thanks, Julie

One Large File Or Many Small Ones?
Hello there everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some input as to the benefits / disadvantages between loading audio / large graphics externally on the fly vs simply having them all in the library and having one large asset.

Thanks for any input,

Flash File Too Large
I have a flash file that is 28K KB. I cannot get it to open, and definately cannot publish the file. At this size, is there any way to break the file up, or even to get it open so that I can do that?
Thx,

Large File Sizes
Hi there,
This is really just a general question but when would you decide that your Flash site is too big to load as one movie and split it up into external swfs? For example if you have a site over say 800kb, would you need to start making some pages into their own movies or now that everyone seems to be using broadband can you have much bigger movies?
Thanks.

Large SWF File Loading.
hello;
I have a large website. The main flash site is fat and loads fat content as well. So I need a preloader or progress bar in the main flash site so that it shows the progress bar while it loads. after it loads, it should go and load a default file into a movieclip in the middle of the site.

What would be the best way to do this?
I never know where to add the action script for these loaders.

So I need a progress class or something that I can import into my library for a clip to show the progress for that clip, for the main site and then I will be loading other movies as portions into that site.

I also would like to create more than one instance of the same movie once I load the movie once.

any ideas or sample code?
thanks

Large File Sizes
i've noticed something strange when importing sound into flash. the file becomes a lot larger than it should be and this has happened to me many times before. heres a scenario to describe what i'm talking about:

original file size: 900 kB
music file size(to be imported): 5000 kB

import the music file size, and it should be automatically compressed (usually i get a message at the bottom of the properties window for the sound, saying that it was decreased to 10-15% the size of the original file).
even without the compression, the file size shouldn't be more than 5900kB (900 + 5000), right? well oddly enough, it isn't. it might increase by 3 times this amount from what i've experienced in the past(to about 18 000kB).

this has caused many problems for me including the inability to upload files(due to upload limits) and slow file transfer, which is the reason i decided to bring this up.

ok, does anyone know the reason why this happens (file sizes increase greatly when importing sound)?

Flash File To Large
Hello,

I built this site and it is almost finished with the exception of the "lounge" page.

My client came to me today and asked me if there is any way I can make the file size smaller. Now thi site is almost completely dynamic and I do not know what else to do.

Is there any way I can compress things down even more at this point?

Just looking for some input.

Thanks,

Large Flash File To Run On Internet

Large Audio File, What Are My Options?
Hello!

I've got a Flash that I created in MX. The first 45 seconds or so have a
voice over that is rather large (115k).

Instead of embedding it in my Flash file and slowing down the load time, I'd
like to park it on my server, and have it begin streaming as the Flash file
plays.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Streaming Large Audio File
I have a large audio file that I want to synchronize with the animation of my movie. I know in order to best accomplish this, I should choose "stream" for the sync.

Should I just drag the file onto the stage on the keyframe that I want it to begin, or is there a smarter way of handling the audio when synchronizing?

Also, is there a better way of synchronizing the animation with the audio other than maticulously starting and stopping the playhead to find the particular points in the audio to sync with?

Large Text File /html
Hi everyone.

Once again thanks to everyone who helped on my last post everything is working great and I feel like I could now give advice on loadvars() with the experience i picked up. Anywho this is more of a question then a problem.

Here is the situation. I would like to display a very large text file say if it was in MS Word about 11 pages. When I put this into a text box (dynamic) or a scrollpane it will only show me partial or loads very very slow. I was also thinking of having pictures in it and attempted to use the scrollpane to do this but once again it doesn't quite display properly. And finally is it possible to load a html page within flash ie. say i push a button and it loads google into a frame/box or something. everything i read says i can't but everytime someone says you can't someone else proves them wrong. Anywho any thoughts are appreciated.

Memory Problems With Large .fla File
Hi:

I created a large .fla file in flash 5 to be burned to cd. The file was close to 90 mb in size. The reason it is so big is because I have imported 3d images as sequenced jpegs. Around 90 mb the file crashed the computer and used up all memory. I had to reboot to restore memory but the file is essentially unworkable.

I should briefly detail my system now:

amd 1.4ghz processor
524 mb of ddr ram
at least 15 gb of free hard drive space

So, it is not the most powerful computer by any means but not slow either.

I reduced the size of the jpegs and created a new .fla and it is only about 40 mb in size and it is working better but I still get low memory warnings.

My question is this: is this a limitation to flash 5 or would I solve this problem by getting more ram? Or, is there something else I should consider.

Thanks for any help.

URGENT Large Flash File?
Hello,

I've recently created a new media Flash presentation about 10 minutes in length, 800 x 600 in size and the .swf is about 50mb. It runs fine for the first 8-9 minutes then dies. It seems to just kill the RAM for some reason. Am I missing something? Should I have a preloader at the beginning of the movie? Should I export it as an .exe or .mov?
I see dowloaded movies from the internet that are around 500mb in length and they seem to play fine. WHat kind of techology are they using?

thanks m@

Large File Preloader Issue
Hi,

I am doing like a presentation in flash that is around 5.7MB and because it is to be downloaded from the net I need a preloder for it. I've tried using various standard preloaders such as this

actBytes = _level1.getBytesLoaded();
totBytes = _level1.getBytesTotal();
percent = Math.round(actBytes * 100 / totBytes);

tried tons of them and they all seem to kick in only after 30-40% of the movie is loaded I just get a blank movie screen ... so it's ok on broadband but for dial-up peole wait ages to find out if the movie is loading. I've tried resovling this by making another swf file insted a preloader scene. In this case preloader kicks in but I can't resolve problem of having to load the main movie into _root time line beacuse of action script in it. So or I end up not being able to see the preloader (if it's level below) or I end up having the preloader stay on screen once movie loaded. Like if I put the main movie in dummy "clip1" it works once loaded it goes over the preloader because clip1 is higher level but it's not _root so my sctionscript in it wont work .... any ideas , is there a way to make reliable preloader for large files? (the same preloader works fine, kick in right away on movies upto 1.5MB of size)

Cheers

Extremely Large File Sizes In MX
Hi,
I have a very short movie that is 640K.
When I publish it in MX it balloons to 3.3 mg!
Can anyone tell me what bugs in MX to look for to begin to figure out why it is doing this and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Preloading A Large File (i'm Getting An Hourglass)
Hi,

I'm creating an important flash CD, and I'm getting into some problems in the loadMovie area. Basically, what's happening is this: I am using a small projector file to load external swf files which contain embedded video (so file sizes ranging from 20MB to 80MB); when I use the loadMovie command, the movie eventually loads, but an hourglass is displayed and all animations that were going on stop until after the movie has finished loading. What I'm trying to do is create a preloader for these swf files, either inside the swf file, or in the projector. I've made many a preloader before, and here I've tried a simple two frame loader in the swf files, and many different actionscripting preloaders in the loading projector. But once the loadMovie command is called, the movie freezes until it is fully loaded; the first frame of the movie doesn't even show or get played, and neither does any call to a simple blinking "loading" text I have in the loader file.

Does anyone know how to get this to work? I kknow it can be done. I recently saw a band's enhanced CD (that uses Flash Player 6 projector file) that has a small loading projector file, and an 80MB external swf file. This file is loaded into the projector, but the projector doesn't stop playing a simple blinking "loading" animation.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if you have other suggestions as to how to load the swf file, please tell. Thanks,

Large File Size From Images
Hi,
I would like to create a movie with scrolling thumbnails that are enlarged when clicked on. The problem is there are about 100 jpgs that need to be displayed, which will result in a very large swf.

So is there any way to call up an image without actually including it in the swf?

Thanks.

Large File Size Problems
Hello,

Oversized movie questions...

Is it true unused items are not included in the swf file?

I have an unsual file size. I think it should be about 300K but the swf file is 800K. I tried everything to located the culprit with no success. There is no sound or large bitmaps sitting in the library.

Is there a way to check library items file size?

Or is there a way to track down large items in flash?

Thank You

Preloader On Large File Inconsistent
Hi, I would like to know if anyone else has ever encountered a problem like this:

I have a large movie/site (4.3M) with a preloader on it that is behaving inconsistently. Most of the time, on most computers, it preloads and then plays the movie like it should. However, a few people have said that the preloader loads until it says it is done, but then doesn't play the main movie. They can then refresh the page and the site comes up right away without the preloader at all.

You can get more information and code on this post:
http://www.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=682229

But I am mostly interested to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they have done for it. Thanks!

Preloading A Large Text File
i have this problem,
i created an actionscript that searches a text file for a number and displays some data related to the number.
the problem i have is that it is a big file, takes too much time to load, when someone clicks the search button, one might think it's not working, because it takes time to load the whole text file and search thru it.

so,
is there a way to preload the text file at the begining of the movie to the cache(with the movie preloading) so that when someone searches data is displayed instantly??

thanks in advance for your help

[F8] Problem Compressing Large File
Hello All,
I anmimated a line being drawn - scribbled all over the place - using 500 frames. When I finished I was amazed that the .fla file was 50mb!! ouch
I tried optimizing the symbols but that didn't seem to help. When I published to a .swf file it was still 500kb. What can I do to get the file size down.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

And.... can you speed up the frame rate of an individual MC that is in a timeline with a different frame rate?

thanks!

[F8] Large Scale Flash File
anyone out there have experience with large scale flash animation for output to plasma/lcd?

i am working on project flash animation which will be output to a 16 bank wall of 21" NEC lcd screens (4x4). file contains mutlitple image animations as well as horizontally scrolling text. the file seems to play ok but starts to stutter/stall in certain areas. is there anything i can do to fix this?

file is: 3 minutes long; 50 fps; 1600x1200pxl resolution; flash 8 file running as mac projector; running on PowerMac Dual G4

• is it possible to run this size smoothly in flash?
• should this have been done w/ video?
• frame rate?

any info would be greatly appreciated.

[CS3] Preloader For Ridiculously Large File...
Hi everyone. I feel silly even asking a question about a preloader, but I seemed to be a little stumped. When I put a preloader on a large file, it doesn't show up until about 15% of the file has been loaded. I am trying to find a way to get something to show up immediately. I've tried moving the preloader out one frame and just putting text on the first frame that says, "Loading", but that doesn't even show up immediately. Any help?

Here is the code I am using:

Code:
total_bytes = _root.getBytesTotal();
preloader.onEnterFrame = function(){
loaded_bytes = _root.getBytesLoaded();
percent = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*100);
percentDone = int((loaded_bytes/total_bytes)*100)+"%";
preloader.bar.gotoAndStop(percent);
preloader.bar2.gotoAndStop(percent);
ifFrameLoaded (_totalframes) {
delete this.onEnterFrame;
gotoAndPlay(2);
}
}
fscommand("showmenu", false);

stop();
