How Do I Call Sound Files For A Sound Player Created In Flash
I want to create a sound player for a website in Flash 5. However, i do not know how to play the files without importing them into the flash movie. If i imported all of the sound files i am using, my flash file would end up being about 25meg in size. This would obviously be stupid, as it would take forever to load up. Could someone please tell me what action i eed to use to play a sound file which is stored in the same directory as the swf file.
Im only just learning flash so im not 100% sure that this is the way to do it. Is there a way of telling flash flash to only load a certain part of the movie as it is neded.

HELP How Do You Make Sound Files Sound Better?

Sound Files
I have a sound file that starts when the movie gets to a certain frame. However, on the same frame, I have a button that starts a movie clip with its own sound file. My problem is that I don't want both sounds playing at the same time. I want to stop that first sound when I click my mc button and I also want to start the movie clip sound and after the movie clip sound is played I need to play that original sound again. Does anyone have any suggestions for that?

Hey all

After a long break from Flash ive been called upon to do some minor flash work for the company website. Unfortunately im a little rusty and was hoping you lot could help. Basically Im trying to develop a mini sound-bite player to play recent sound bites from interviews we held. Any suggestions how best to do this? Ive got the play and stop buttons working on the progess bar but stopping the MC doesnt seem to stop the sound, any suggestions as to how I could do that? Thanks a lot for any help. Hi all,

I've done a couple of VERY minor Flash movies in the recent past (http://www.loulouscandy.com) was one of them.

However, I now have the challenge of working with a sound file ...and I have no clue what to do.

I have a client that currently has sound on his site. I am making some minor changes to the site, just updating it.

He would like the music to play only when a slideshow is being viewed.

How do I get it to do that? (I asked in the Macromedia Flash forum and they said to come here!)

what types of sound files does flash recognize when importing to library?

ive tried .wav, .mp3, .wma, and I came up with the same error:

Macromedia does not recognize file...

I dont understant why it doesnt recognize it, it did b4. I installed a newer version of quicktime recently tho, i dunno if that makes a difference.

I'm working on sound files. My application has a movie clip (a dog) and 4 sound files. I had created 5 layers inserting the movie clip in one layer and each sound file in each layer. I'd like to create an animation such that the dogs gives the instructions with the help of these four sound files. Would anyone please let me know:

1. how to insert the sound files in different frame in the timeline.
2. the dog should move its lips when the first sound file starts and shut its mouth when the sound file stops and again starts talking when the next sound file starts.

No Sound In Swf Files
I am running OS 10.4.9 on a G5 iMac. Quicktime is ver 7.1.6. Recently I discovered that Shockwave files no longer play sound. I installed the Flash Player 9 upgrade. Still no sound. This occurs when using Test Movie in Flash (ver. MX2004), Quicktime Player or Safari or other browser to play the files. Also any sounds imported into Flash will not play in Test Movie or by using the play button in the Library. Not sure if this is a Mac problem or a Flash problem...?

just added an MP3 track to my movie, im using action script to run it and everything works fine.

the sound file is an MP3 at 5.2 meg and I can't seem to get it much lower without compromising serious sound quality. Also when i publish the movie, flash doesn't seem to compress the sound and I'm left with a SWF that's 5.2 meg.

how can I fix this?
am i going about it the right way?

Is there anyway to compress a long (about 2 mins for background music) sound file or do something to it so that the flash movie doesn't take forever to download. I am using MP3 compression but it's adding a large overhead to my swf.
I am trying to get away from using short sound loops as they tend to sound tacky and can be monotonous.

Also, due to the large sound file (which by the way I am NOT exporting in the first frame), the preloader for the movie doesn't even show.
I've changed my linkage properties for all "Export for Actionscript" objects to NOT export in the first frame.

What am I doing wrong?

How Can I Compress Sound Files...
I put in a MP3 file into a flash movie file I made and compressed it to the lowest setting I could for the movie, I even cut the length of the track, and put it on the lowest quality possible via forge. But it still take a mean amount of space and in the process, the flash animation takes a long long time to load, any suggestions on how i can speed it up?

Hello guys...
Listen I am going to pop a valve in a minute!
I have a website i am working on--with various .MC
One part of the website is 'sound samples' I have about 5 different mp3 files which I want to play when that specific button is pushed to play that file and that file only!!!
I have tried many things---I have tried putting each individual mp3 file into it's own .mc and then used action script to call upon ity to play when the appropriate button is pushed.
I have also tried placing all the mp3 movieclips on the same stage as the buttons at varying intervals so as not to over lap in the timeline and I created frame labels for each
individual mp3 MC. and put something to this effect as follows;

on release
gotoAndPlay (35);

and then just created a stop all sounds button.

I know...I sound desperate...but this thing is driving me NUTZ!!

Please help!!

Converting Sound Files
what is the most effective way to include sound files in my Flash Movie that will not slow down the download to hear it. I have 12 at 1 MB each and they are formated as MP3. I noticed that changing them into a MC, changes to sound. What are my choices?

Also, how can i store them on levels, like in Flash 5? MX, doesn't seem to give me that option.

Down Sizing Sound Files
i have sound files that are mp3 about 1.3 megs each.. however there is something a group of people from Russia are doing to downsize the same sound files to 100K. how are they doing that. they will not tell me. is there a software out there that i don't now about? i have tried a few and when i attempt to import it into the library it becomes unrecognizable.

Multiple Sound Files
Trying to figure out the best way to start and stop sound files between scenes. I have 5 scenes, each with a different sound file, but I cannot figure out how to:

A. Stop the sound file currently playing when jumping to another scene, and

B. Start the new sound file in the presence of "stop all sounds" or other command.

Currently, all the different sounds play on top of each other when jumping from scene to scene.

Huge Sound Files
I am creating an intro for my step sons hockey web site. There is a sound file that is included on the intro. it was downloaded as an MP3 and is in my library as a .wav. The problem is that it is so big that I can't upload it. Is there any way I can shorten it so that the file size will be smaller? The intro is just not cool without it.

Long Sound Files HELP
HI

I am trying to put two 75 min mixes on my site. Most articles on the web show ways in which I can put a layer of sound on the timeline. Problem is it takes a long time to get the sound files to fit. (by moving to the right of timeline and right mouse clicking: insert frame)
I rekon the best way to do this is by creating linkage from the sound file (saves time pasting on the timeline). I need the coding to make this happen and I can't find the relevant code for a player with a rew, play and pause button as well as a progress bar.
I think another easy way would be to create a button so it opens windows media player and streams that way.
Do you think the linkage or windows media player method will be the best ways to resolve the problem or will I get even more problems?
Or is there certain way to put my mix on the timeline quickly?
I am a complete beginner and feel it would be great to write up about this because I cant find anything relating to putting such long sound files on Flash MX

Playing Sound Files From Cd Rom?
My flash projector is running from a cd rom, I am having trouble getting my music clips to play consistantly.

I am using the onLoadSound property and setting the isStreaming to true and using a onSoundComplete to repeat the music clip. Now I have tried using EVENT or isStreaming to false, but the results are the same..

..Either you hear a brief moment of music or none at all. However, if after you play the cd rom through once and start over there usally isn't any problems. So it seams the music files dont' get enough time to load and then play.

I read that streaming sounds need at leat 5 seconds to load before playing, is there any way to preload the sounds in the begining of my movie so I kwow for sure the music clips will play when desired?

Sound Files In Different Scenes
Okay, so for my final project in school, I have created this kids game, well the first scene(1) has it's own music that plays on its own in the background, then when you click the button to play the game, it turns the music off. On the next scene(2) when you choose your player, I want the same song to play, but much lower then there is a mute button (that is working), the player buttons, which go to the next scene(3) and stop the background music from playing, and an exit button which sends you to the last scene(4). Scene 4 plays its own music and is all working correctly.
My problem is that Scene2 and 3 will not work right at all with the sounds! With the sound added in scene2 it plays the frist scene's(1) music plus its own. Scene3 does not even play sound at all. I have been working on this for three days now, and I know its something horribly simple but my instructor however has told me that I am farther than she is in flash development, and the four books that I have looked to for help are not getting me very far.

i have a movie and have vocals on it.

my problem is when i play the movie(swf)
the vocals play like you're playing in slow motion.
but when i play it on windows media player or goldwave...
it plays just fine.

what's wrong with my movie?

External Swf Sound Files

i am creating a learning aid for kids to learn word pronounciations.
The basic idea is very simple
- A block of text converted to buttons (each word)
- When the user clicks a word, the movie says it (using recorded voice)

Up to now i have had great success using the voice files INSIDE the movie itself on different frames. however the total file size is considerably big and takes ages to load!

So i would like to know how i can link a button to play an external swf file.

This would greatly help since the individual words in sound are very small. Thus my movie could be loaded fast and would just load each sound as the user clicks the word.

Another issue which I am facing is as follows:
The second function of the same movie would be to "say sentences"
At the end of each sentence there is a small button marked <Say sentence>
The idea is that when the user clicks this button the movie plays the entire sequence of words in the sentence one after the other. Uptill now I have been unable to do this (unless i make a seperate recording for the full sentence itself)
Is there any way that I can get a block of external swf files to play one after the other in sequence with minimal delay inbetween?

Any help will be greatly appretiated.

Help With Looping Sound Files.
Hi there, just been having a little trouble with getting my sounds to loop in odd circumstances and haven't been able to find anything in the search..

basically i have two different problems. One is streaming bg music, it loads inside a movie clip with this code no problems;

Code:
var bg_music:Sound = new Sound(this);
bg_music.loadSound("servants.mp3", true);

But i need the mp3 to loop infintely, what code do I add to achieve this?

THe other problem I have is a sound effect on a button:
I preload it with

sd_static.attachSound("static");
stop();

And then just use a sd_static.start(); to begin the sample of a button rollover. However it only plays one cycle, i need it to loop infintely (there is a stop() command on rolloff.

I know that start() had a loop variable, but I dont' quite understand how to impliment it properly.

EDIT: I am aware that you can use a command like start(0,10) to make it loop say 10 times, but I want it to loop forever, is the solutoin just to put in a REALLY high number, or is there a better way? And in the case of my streaming BG mp3, apparently you can't make that loop using that method?
