Flash :: Speech Animation

Speech Animation
About a year ago I came across a great website/page that illustrated different mouth appearances to represent words and letters. I want to animate a character to speak the words of a recording that I've made. Unfortunately the bookmark that I made in my browser has since been erased. Anyone know where I can find the page that I'm referring to and/or a page with similar contents?

Syncing Speech Audio With Animation?
Hello... Im just starting to experiment with flash animations, and Im having trouble timing speech and audio tracks in my cartoons. What I've been doing is recording an mp3 file with the character's lines on a seperate layer, and then doing a 'frame by frame' animation of his mouth moving on another layer. When I test the movie within Flash MX (ctrl-enter) it syncs up perfect, but when I export the file and preview it a browser, the audio plays much faster than the animations do.

Say, for example I have a cartoon made at 20fps, and an mp3 track that is 10 seconds long. I will insert the 10 sec mp3 on one layer, and on another layer, I will draw an animation of the characters mouth moving. The animation of the mouth moving is 200 frames long (20fps*10sec), and it plays out perfectly in the preview in Flash MX. But when I look at it in a browser, the audio finishes playing in the regular 10 seconds, but the animation takes 15 seconds to play, so the mouth keeps moving for 5 seconds after the audio stops. It looks dumb.

Can anybody tell me the proper way to animate a character talking? Am I on the right track, or is this just a dumb idea to begin with? heheh...

Lip Syncing Speech
Hiya i'm setting up an animation for which i've already dubbed voiceovers and I was wondering if there is a way to have the soundfile play live as I scrub across the timeline so I can hear where/when to swap mouth symbols. So far I can only get the sound to play when the movie is tested. Thanks in advance!

Hello all,

I've tried doing some flash coding years ago and i want to try it again for this new ambitious thing i thought off

One of the first things i need to know (and i guess i have been away for some time!) How can i make someone enter text (EG a name) and then hear it online back(probably as a streamed MP3)?

I heard this is possible, but which application/program/package do u need to do something like this in Flash? Are there (reasonable) easy to use standards for this?
Maybe even Open Source?

Hopefully someone out there struggled with the same problem before.....I have no idea where to begin!

Speech Bubbles - How?
Hello. Someone there can make me an speechbubble system?

If i press "hello everybody" in my textfield (talkBubbleMessage), then the text goto the speech bubble, and have an normal height and width, matchin like the bubble - i think:

I heard that you can use Microsoft's Text-to-Speech generator to add voices for Flash movies. I checked the SPEECH icon in the control panel and it just gives me a preview. How do I use it and turn it into a sound file to import into Flash? Thanks.

Speech Bubbles
I'm trying to figure out the best way to architect this;

We currently have an animated character on the site... calling a function makes her "speak"... as words appear her mouth changes shape. All this works. What I'd like to do is have the text appear in a dynamically sized speech bubble...

I was thinking of some mechanism to work out the length of the text she has been sent, then to size the bubble box around the text. But I'm sure it's not that simple. Has anyone done something similar or cares to share ideas?

how/where does the speech come from in the "killer intros" on US and also the same speech in the NRG site? its the same voice i guess, but ive heard it on other sites not created by Miko/NRG. is it a speech engine thru microsoft?

Speech Bubble
here's the link to the problem. http://michellewilliams.iscute.com/ The movie itself changes weekly and it's constrained to 100x100 pixels. There's another site that links to the movie.

This week I wanted to make it handicapped friendly with text and sound.
I finally got the bubble and text together, but with text around .05 pixels in height it wasn't worth it.

What I'd like to do is have the bubble work outside of the movie and still work on both sites.

with the bubble and the thumbnails in the 100x100 grid, nothing is visible. the thumbs shrink to about 1/4 x 1/4 inch or less and the text is just a blurry black line.

This is only my 3rd flash project.

evening gents!

so, what i did: a character that moves (like an arcade type of game) when someone in the microphone say something. using the activityLevel.

this works great, but what i WANT to do now:
the character run ONLY when someone in the microphone say an specific WORD.

what i think:
maybe, i can pass the sound of the word wich is gonna to activate the character trough some software. that can gave me the frequency and db in a text file. SO, i can compare the text file with the sound that the mic can give me, that could work for the amplitude... but with the frequency? uh? could works on run time?

Speech Bubbles.
Ok for my flash movie thing I need to have speech bubbles for when the characters talk. I have it so the textbox and the speechbubble are in a movie clip together and whenever I want to make the text appear I use some ActionScript to put it in the textbox.

The only problem is I can't get the text to fully center(Vertical and Horizontal) in the textbox. I also need a way of making the speechbubble grow if the text can't fit in it!

Is any of this possible?

Text-to-speech In Macromedia MX?
I've heard from many sites that MX has new accessibilty options.. and one of them was the text-to-speech function.. and i was wondering if it was possible to create a form type thing, basically just an application and the user inputs words, and whatever he types in for example
he types in "Macromedia MX rules!" (or whatever else he wants to say) in the form, and then he clicks a button, and it automattically says "macromedia MX rules!" out loud..

You've probably heard of this before, the text-to-speech has been popular for a long time now.. but i'm thinking of new ideas and heard about this in flash.. so my question is, is it possible?

Music And Speech Software
Hi... I was wondering if anyone can direct me to some software that will let me create music for my flash movies. I've written music with MOD and S3M writers several years before in DOS, but I'm looking for some new stuff.

Also, if anybody knows a good program for creating syntesized speech (like a robot or Steven Hawking talking) I'd love to know about it. It's a plus if the software can let me adjust the voice and output to WAV or MP3.

hi people,

sorry if this question has been asked before, but i searched the forum and looked through the faqs and couldnt find the answer i was looking for.

basically im pretty new to flash, i have used it for animation for quite a long time, but have never used the scripting side of things before.

what im doing at the mo is for my university course, and the deadline is thursday so any quick answers would be greatly appreciated! here goes...

the user drags words, from a selection on a pallette, onto a piece of paper. then they click on a button and the sound files are played in order they have chosen.

Synchronising Characters Speech
Hello

I've exported my film as a quicktime movie, a few frames have been clipped but the main and most distressing thing is that all my sound clips are out of sync in the quicktime movie (whilst in the swf they are perfectly sychronised)

I made them all event sounds in the flash file but it hasn't improved it. Problem is the main part of the film is a dialogue between two characters and the sound needs to be spot on.

I'd really appreciate any words of wisdom...

Is it possible to integrate Mac`s built in speech recognition feature ()or any other speech recognition software) into flash?
I am trying to make a speech recognition based flash application. It does not need to work online, jut locally on my mac (no communication server needed).

Does anyone know of AS3 script or component that will allow text from a flash website to speech, the text is dynamically loaded (from xml), which means i can't preset code or audio file.

Standalone Speech Recorder...
hi,
I am trying to implement a standalone speech recorder which uses available microphone on the local system. I want the recorded audio to be attached to a movieclip and playback when needed.

I got no clue how to approach...but looking at the documentation I managed so far. I am able to detect the microphone but got no clue how to capture the voice from detected microphone and attach it to a movieclip and ofcourse playback.

My workfile: TEST_Record.fla is attached.

I would like to build a flash movie that allows a user to type text in and have it read back to them.

I've been doing some research and all I've found is a company called sitepal, who would have to host the file for me (as far as a can tell) and charge me a monthly rate.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I could approach this problem?

I was wondering if Microsoft Speech API SDK was usable in a Flash environment. I am developing a Flash Movie to teach English and would like to add a Voice Recognition component so students can read into a mic and get feedback. Does anybody know if this is possible?

Dynamic Text To Speech
I'm trying to create an educational tool which reads a series of words from an XML file and will display each word in turn and then read it out. I realise I'll need a text-to-speech engine but which one? And does it need to sit on the client PC or the web server? If the former how can I get the application to work on Mac and Linux as well as Windows? If I choose one text-to-speech engine I am I wedded to it till death us do part or is it easy to change engines?

Any pointers to get me on the right road would be appreciated. Thanks :)
