XML Fisheye Menu
Does anyone know any tutorials on how to go about making a fisheye navigation that loads images via XML, etc, etc. ? Any help would be really appreciated.

Bug In Fisheye Menu With SimpleButtons
Hi there!

I rebuild this fisheye menu for AS3, and i'm using it on a list of TextButtons (which extend SimpleButtons). These buttons are childs of a Sprite, and when I hover over the Sprite, the fisheye becomes active. To the left of the list of buttons I built in a margin of 10 pixels. When I hover here, the fisheye works smoothly, and the buttons' height and y-position are renderend perfectly. However, when I hover over the buttons themselves, the the fisheye doesn't render good at all, there is no smooth flow. Just the original or the maximum heigths, and not even consistently.

When hovering the buttons, their 'overState' and 'upState' are rendered in sequence. It seems that there is some conflict between the fisheye adjusting the buttons' height and the button-hovering doing the same (maybe setting the height back to the original height when the buttons were instantiated).

Is there any way to overcome this problem? In the fisheye menu example above, an AS2 'FSelectableListClass' was used, but I cannot find any class in AS3 with the same features. Do I have to use something else than my TextButtons to populate the menu? I know the fisheye technique is working by hovering in the margin-area..

2 lines code from the menu-class. I put the buttons in an array for easy access:

Code:
var item:TextButton = kwButtons[i];
item.height = var h:Number = getAscendingH(i, focusSpan.beginIndex-1, focusSpan.yMin, DISTORTION);
Each state of my TextButton is a Sprite that contains a label (TextField w. format) and a background (Shape). The button's height is set when instantiated, and it's value at that point is it's maximum height (as when the mouse is on top of that button when the fisheye is working normally).

If you have any clue (at all) for solving this problem, please reply! Thank you!

[AS] Stretching Menu

Horizontal Stretching Menu
hello, i am fairly new to actionscript and i need help creating a horizontal actionscript controlled interface. i have attached the problem file. originally i started with some code from a vertical version of what i am trying to do (courtesy of ming chan on this site) and tried to adjust the menu to suit my needs however as you will see, although the menu pieces open in the proper spot, they drift to line up under each other, so that only one menu piece is showing on the top. i have checked and rechecked everything over and over, but i am not good at the math part of this whole thing, and i am thinking that maybe this particular code cannot be adapted to work vertically. rather than waste any more time beating my head against the wall, would someone please help me get to the bottom of this. the simplified non actionscript version can be found here:

http://www.aisde.com/flash/plain.html

that's the idea only adapting the actionscript in the attached file to jazz it up. please help, even if it's just to say forget it, that code can't be adapted to a horizontal menu, i would deeply appreciate it. or suggestions pointing me in a better direction, tutorial, etc. thanks, rebecca

And here´s another Pixel Bender/-Astro snippet… called “Fisheye“. This tiny bit of code generates a little fisheye-filter.

Fisheye Effect...
Helo,
I'm trying to make a fish eye effect, without any sucsses..

I found here a fishye example, http://flashmove.com/board/sig/timothee.swf,
but it too old, and the .FLA file is unavilable..

Can enyone help me?

Thank you!

Fisheye Flash
First of all, let me say that I am flash illiterate - I design lenses for a living. Specifically I design lenses for dome theaters. For one particular dome theater project we're working on, we would like to implement flash content. One reason for this is that we will have domes of different sizes and resolutions and the vector-based flash content is fully portable, scaling between them without re-rendering - right?

I've spent the last 2 days searching the web for a method to render fisheye images in flash. In the dome theater world this is called a "dome master".

So far it seems Swift (RAV3) is one possible solution. Using the Swift 3d MAX plugin, you can create a 3DS environment, aim the camera at a parabolic mirror and then fly through the world backwards. The alternative is to create a fisheye camera (f-theta).

Can any of you tell me if this idea will work? Is there another way to accomplish this? Has anyone done it before?

Thanks for your help.

[Math] Fisheye Effect
I'm looking for a formula to create the "fisheye" effect on a set of points, as commonly seen in vector graphic editing applications, such as Illustrator of FreeHand. Example:
http://abeall.com/files/temp/fisheye.gif
(This is screen grabbed from FreeHand. Note that FreeHand also bends the edges between the points, I am not worried about this right now)

The following values are known:
Point x,y
Circle/ellipse height and width
Circle/ellipse center point
*I'm assuming that if I can find a reasonable formula, I can easily adjust it so that a "strength" value from -1 to 1 to will result in convex/concave results as shown.

Any ideas as to how to map these points such that it creates the shown "fisheye" distortion would be great.

My only guess, which is a very uneducated guess, is to map the points between 0 and 1 based on how close they are to the ellipse edge along a line forming from the ellipse center which intersects the point. That would be tricky for me, but I think I pull it off with the aid of wikipedia. Then I might be able to re-map those points to a curve formula from Flash's easing equations, and see if I can get interesting results -- but I have no idea if the results will look like what I show.

Thanks for any advice!

Samuel Wan's Fisheye List
Hi,
I am trying to use this Fisheye List component in FMX04, but I cant get it to work at all. I'm just wondering if anyone has used this before, and if someone may be able to help me figure out how to use it. It works fine in the source fla, but when i try to incorporate it into my own files, it doesn't work...I must be missing something, or having issues with component usage? (even copying and pasting the entire fla frames doesnt work...)

here is the demo:
http://www.samuelwan.com/downloads/c...eMenuDemo.html
here is the source file zip:
http://www.samuelwan.com/downloads/c...emenu_1_01.zip

I really needed to figure out a way to dynamically and flexibly list items using a tsunami style list, and I figured this would be a solution... If anyone has other ideas or knows how to create a dynamic tsunami list (that can accommodate any number of entries from an array) I would really appreciate the help!

Thanks=]

Flash 360° Fisheye
hi all,

I suppose this is verry dificult but is sombody in here that could point me to the right direction how I can create a 360° sliding view of a picture taken with a fisheye lens. How do you recalculate how the picture must look like so that you can scroll over it.

I created a floorplan drawing tool where you can place camara's in but and I want to link a 360° picture on that camara.

tanks in advance.

best regards.

2D Fisheye / Tsunami Effect On Grid Of Squares/tiles.
Greetings

I'm sure youre all familiar with the Flex component over at http://www.quietlyscheming.com/blog/...d-fisheye-v02/ . But since I don't have Flex and I only need this effect on 16 (4x4) tiles, I was wondering if anyone could help me get started in the right direction, in Flash 9, AS2.0.

Does anyone know of any tutorials or script examples I could look at? Or even any other examples of this effect on other websites. Anything can help.

I started out making a very long script for the first square, which basically consisted of 15 tweens. Didnt take me long before I realised I would have to do this all over again, if I suddenly needed 5x5 or even just 4x5.

So, like i said. You help is always greatly apreciated.

Stretching A MC
Plz help me out from my situation...i am briefing my probs here..

I have some movie clips in _root. and there will be hotsopt point in each MC. on pressing and dragging that point the MC will resize accordingly...

This thing i want to do it with ActionScript...i am planning for another MC(empty MC) in _root which is having ActionScript for changing the other MCs..

The ActionScript MC will take parameters of MCname to resize and current Width and Height..

I have all the idea in my mind....but i am not good at ActionScript .. can any one help me..whether my idea is wrong or right ???

all kinds of comments would be appriciated..

Thanks in adv,

Stretching MC
Hey all,

I have some MCs which I have stretched (keyframed) to suit the content that is loaded into them. I have used the external preloader tutorial.

The problem I have, is that when the MCs are stretched, it's stretching the 'loading' text in the transitions. Is there a simple way around this?

I assume it might be possible with _xscale, or something similar. The MC's are only stretching horizontally.

Cheers,
dreeft.

Help With Stretching...
I have a very simple design for a website I want to make...
What I need help with, is to make the orange square (see attaxhed picture) stretch to each side so that it always cover the entire screen/window.
Everything else (text images etc.) needs to be centered.. I really hope someone can give me a helping hand here

'Stretching' Text
Hi everyone

Can anyone tell me how I can 'stretch' the width of a font, so that it appears flatter?

I'm using Insane 3D Flash Animator which of course allows me to select the height (size) of the font, but I can't seem to find how to alter the width.

If anyone can tell me how/whether this is possible, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks

Fullscreen Without Stretching My Swf
Hi everybody

My quest is to get a fullscreen document with no browser toolbar, location, scrollbar...

The problem on stretching the swf document is that in large monitors my images resolution gets lousy.

Thanks for any hint

Stretching Flash?
If you look at the site, you will see that there is a gap at the top and bottom of the flash page which is sitting on a light coloured background. Is there a way that I can make this stretch to touch the top and bottom leaving no gap.
Or Will I have to go back and resize the whole thing? This will also mean having to resize the gradient background in photoshop. I hope you can help.

Thank you.

Stretching A Beam
This may be tricky. I want to have a "beam" shooting from a gun.The trick is, i want the end of the beam to be where my cursor(or crosshair is)but have the beggining of the beam stay at the gun point. I want the "beam" to be a movie clip, as it will have a quick animation to it. right now it just stays a certain length, and looks dumb when the crosshair is above or below a certain point. Any help would be great. Thanks everyone..

Stretching An Animation
This is probably a basic question so apologies in advance. I've just created an animation of bubbles for a web site and i've created it so that it loops continously. Now my boss wants to slow the animation down but retain the frame rate. I have tried adding more frames and moving all the keyframes forward but it doesn't look the same i need to 'stretch' the movie somehow. Is there an easy way to do this? I've attached the animation in .fla format.

Stretching Out Flash...
Here is my question... How big can we stretch out Flash (MX/2004)?

In other words, how many frames can a timeline have?
How big can a Fla file be (in Megs) before shutting down on you?
How wide, how tall (pixel-wise) can an SWF file be?
How big can the Stage become, in pixels?
How many Scenes can you actually add to a file?
What is the max you can set up your fps in a timeline?
How many hint points can you add when making a Shape Tween?
Also, how many nested movies (downwards) can you build a flash file, in other words, a movieclip is inside a movieclip, inside another movieclip, inside another bla bla bla... and so on... How many times can you go down like this?
Is there a max for "script length" in any given keyframe?

Please don't take this as an important or vital question (not working on anything that would need such answers), I was just questioning how far Flash can be stretched...

Arg Stretching Glitch...
I'm sure at one time or another every flash user has experienced this problem. I tried searching through the forums to see if this had already been addressed but the search feature wasn't working...so here goes.

Have you guys ever noticed that sometimes when you make an animation, an element such as a photo or a movieclip will randomly stretch??? You'll see just the slightest tweak, as if the image is being temporarily resized and then goes back to normal.

I've heard this is a fairly normal thing, but I can't figure out how to fix it for the life of me, I'm using the same image, and it's in the SAME exact spot at the beginning of the animation and at the end, the only thing changing is the alpha (the transparency) and yet the whole image stretches randomly in the middle of playing before going back to normal a split second later.

I know the coordinates are exactly the same on the file because I did a copy and then "paste in place". Anyone have ANY idea what causes this error???

Loaded Swf Stretching?
hey,

i created a test flash file (mainMovie) and an empty mc 1000x200. i saved and published to a folder on my desktop. then i created another file (phoneNumber) which is 1000x200 and published it to the same folder.

there is a button in the mainMovie.swf that loads the phoneNumber.swf into the empty mc. well the damn thing is stretching!!! why?! i checked everything that i could think of several times. all my numbers are good. hhmmm....

i followed this tutorial:

http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ac...1019/index.php

my code:

Code:
_root.load_btn.onPress = function() {
loadMovie("phoneNumber.swf", "_root.holder_mc");
this.enabled = false;
};
_root.unLoad_btn.onPress = function() {
_root.holder_mc.unloadMovie();
_root.load_btn.enabled = true;
};
i have attached a screen grab. the bottom sample is how it should look and how it opens when i launch the actual phoneNumber.swf. as you can see, the top is the mainMovie.swf and it's all stretched out. what's going on?

thanks
kurt

[F8] Dynamic Stretching
Hello all,

I'm tying to create what's called a "gantt chart" in flash. (File attached below)

The horizontal bars represent work shifts, and already have the ability to be dragged horizontally.

My problem is this: if a user grabs either end of the bars (in white), I need to have the bar stretch across the horizontal and stay in place when released. This would allow a user to change the start or end times of a shift.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!!!

Stretching Frames?
Hi there,

So I have this animation, say 100 frames. I want it to go slower, without loosing the framerate. Is there any way of stretching it all out? Like in AfterEffects, or any other programs?

[CS3] Swf Stretching Out In Browser...HELP
Hey everybody i have been stumped on this for a few days and have not been able to figure it out, hopefully someone can help me out.

Once i embed the swf in dreamweaver and and view it locally it looks perfect and exactly like it should. But when i upload it to my server and view it online however it becomes stretched out and all the content of the swf is pixelated.

i have never had this happen and am very frustrated and confused.

for reference my site is ianculley.com

MC Is Stretching Rather Than Appending.
I'm having two problems I could really use some help with:

1) I am attaching movie clips to an MC object called dropIn.contentMain. I want the contentMain object to grow taller as objects are attached to it (it is the background, and the attached objects will be the foreground..it's for a kind of dynamically generated web page which will eventually read in text and links to pictures and attach them)
I set up a simple program to test it:

ActionScript Code:
for (x=0; x<40;x++)
    {sqr=dropIn.contentMain.attachMovie("squares","square"+x,x);
    sqr._y = x * squares._height;
    trace(sqr._height);
    trace(dropIn.contentMain._height);
    dropIn.contentMain._height += sqr._height;}

the problem is, when I increase the height of the container MC (contentMain) instead of adding to it, it stretches it (and its contents consequently get stretched also) What would be a way to do this better, so it appends rather than stretches the contentMain background (it is simply a rectangle, if that helps) Would this require some drawLine work? I'm gonna go try to do it with drawing commands, but does anyone have a better idea?

2) I want to attach text to the contentMain MC, but for some unknown reason, when I do so (with either a createTextField command or even by actually placing the text on to the stage itself) the text is invisible. Anyone know what in the heck is going on here? Does text nested inside of a symbol not display properly in Flash?

Many thanks for any help you can provide

Avoid Stretching
i have made an input field, but i only made one. however, i need more than one different input field size. when i resize the smaller input field, the text field stretchs so there is an indent. is there a way to avoid this?

p.s. the same problem happens with a symbol of just a box and a line, when you resize it, the line gets bigger two.

No Stretching.. No Hairline
Hello. I'm xezton and yes this is my first post. I've been using Flash for a while and I've been able to duplicate some things on websites that interest me. There is one thing, though, that I've not been able to figure out.

When you dynamically resize some container movie clip to fit the contents (be it a picture or external swf loaded into an empty movie clip, etc) the container is stretched. If you use hairline, however, you don't noticed a stretch like this.

Well what if you don't want to use hairline? Check this out:

Notice how his borders are pretty thick. How is he doing this?

---Ack..
I may have just answered my own question but tell me if there is a better way than this:
He has a movie clip that has a white square graphic with curved corners, and then also a movie clip with a gray square with no borders. The inner gray clip scales to the same size as the content to be loaded, and is the same color as the background, so it looks as if the outer borders are thick, when in reality they are just the edges of the container movie clip coming out from underneath.
You think that's how he did it?

And yes, I've seen the post about resizing with 12,000 + replies. It's very cool.. but it uses the hairline idea.
Let me know what you think.

Stretching SWF's All The Way Across Browser
I want to have a movie, a trailer basically, stretch all the way across so it is touching the browser from the left to the right borders.

Just like a widescreen movie trailer.

EXACTLY like this actually:

How would I achieve this? Do i still need to put it in an html page? What?

Thanks in advance,

Stretching Outside The Limits
Hey!
ive seen in a few places were pressing a button drops down a menu, which extends outside the size of the flash movie.
So that it goes over whatever text is actually underneath the movie.
Ive tried to do the same by just making the menu go below the movie, but that just gets cut off , any suggestions?

thanks

Stretching Effect
I'd like to know to re-create how to create those stretchin effect on this website: www.code23.com/flash.htm Are there any tutorials aaround? What software do you guys recommend for 3D?

Stretching Text
Hi, I'm currently working my way through making a a hover/caption swf for a website and one i've come across a couple of problems:

1) Firstly all the dynamic text for the captions is extracted from an xml file - how would I write in the xml a new line feed? I've tried putting both '
' and '
' in the xml but flash just writes these out as if they are text.

2) How could I change the height of the movie clip depending on the length of the text (or even betterthe number of line feeds)? Changing the caption movie clips height stretches the text.

This is the code (only slightly changed from the Kirupa caption tutorial):

Code:
captionFN = function (showCaption, captionText, bName) {
if (showCaption) {
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("hoverCaption", this.getNextHighestDepth());
mc_caption.txt_desc.text = captionText;
mc_caption._width = 150;
mc_caption._alpha = 85;
//mc_caption._height = ??;

if ((bName._width+bName._x+mc_caption._width)>Stage.width) {
xo = -0-mc_caption._width;
yo = -50;
}
else {
xo = -0;
yo = -50;
}
hoverCaption.onEnterFrame = function() {
mc_caption._x = _root._xmouse+xo;
mc_caption._y = _root._ymouse+yo;
mc_caption._visible = true;
};
}
else {
delete hoverCaption.onEnterFrame;
mc_caption._visible = false;
}
};
and a screenshot of an idea of what I'm trying to do and the problems I'm having:

Cheers to anyone who can help.

Page Stretching To Fit
Boy, do I feel like a noob all over again...

Anyway, what I'm doing is loading MySQL data into Flash via PHP, and what I need to have happen is the Flash movie to behave like a normal HTML page. For example, the information is loaded in and if the information displayed is higher than the HTML allows for, I would like for this is stretch so the browser scroller shows on the side, much like you would have for many pages on these forums. Right now, the height is set at 700px but I was hoping there would be a way to adjust this so everything would just scroll.

This might be an easy and wholly obvious solution, which I think it will be, or it might be very tricky or even impossible. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I'm dumbfounded.

Stretching And Bouncing
I am relatively new to flash, and flash web design, so I have been looking around for ideas. I stumbled upon a great site called www.aroots.com and saw these nifty bouncing windows (they animate before becoming static windows. I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this. I have been looking for 3 days on how to do it and have come up with nothing.

Stretching A Line
Hey,

I have a problem, i can't figure it out at all how to do it..I want to have two boxes connected to each other by a very fine string. When you drag a box, the other box stays, and this string gets longer. How can this be achieved? I've seen this kind of stuff before, i'm doing a cool design site for a client, and i just want it to be a bit more interactive and user friendly. Any help/links to tutorials or even files would really b appreciated

Aidan
