Taking Screenshots In Flash & Exporting Jpegs...
Hello folks, I was just curious if anyone might have a few links, or resources to some tutorials covering this topic. That is, exporting a jpeg from within flash. I'm planning out a project where a user would be able to export a portion of the flash screen into a jpeg that gets stored on my server.
Below seems to be the only document that l can really find on the subject:
http://www.sephiroth.it/tutorials/fl...reen/index.php
I was hoping someone might have a few more articles that l could overlook before proceeding.
Thanks in advance,

Screenshots
Hello there,
Does anyone know of a possible way of disabling screenshots to be taken of a Flash movie? The reason I'm trying to find the answer to this somewhat unusual question is because it's imperative that the picture are not stolen for copyright reasons.
All the best,
Kristopher (UK).

Preventing Screenshots
i need to prevent simple screenshotting of a movie.
My idea:
- blocking the print key within the flash app
- checking the browser for focus, i.e. if the browser lost focus, flash stops playing and resets display to white.
any help appreciated!

Web Screenshots To Flash
Im trying to make a tutorial on how to use a particular site. When i take screenshots of this heavily-texted site and then place the .jpgs into flash, it will only look good at a certain size. but in photoshop i can change the image size and the letters are still readable.
so maybe one, or more, of you wonderfull people know how i can import a web screenshot image in flash and if the person adjusts the size it will still be readable.
i realize that when i post this tut. online i can fix the size people view it at... but for a hardcopy people can adjust it.
yea

Hello
Wanted to put little 100x100 px images of past websites on the mc.
Just wondering what is the most effective way to do this ? Is it a matter of making a "screenshot" or some better mode ?
Screenshots With Actionscript
does anyone know if it is possible to have flash take a screenshot of the desktop? ultimately i want to create a transparent screensaver and was told that screentime cannot do this.

Continual Screenshots - R.S?
is there such program that takes continual screenshots, then with the results could it string them up into a whole movie, as AVI video, .swf file, or even a bitmap image?
Or is that just Rocket Science?
Thx for any tips, links, or just a simple No.

[CS3] Using Screenshots In Flash
I am creating a website demo, using screenshots and basic motion tweens. The screenshots are coming out fuzzy and it's hard to read the text on the pages. I use SnagIt to get my screenshots, and I have tried a few different file formats. PNG seems to be the best, but it's still not perfect. When I open the PNG file in Fireworks, it looks sharp, but after I import it to Flash it looks fuzzy. What is the best file format to use in Flash? Does the resolution matter? Thanks!
Question About Screenshots

Screenshots Imported Are Being Distorted?/
Hi, I am creating a presentation for the software company i work for. We have many screenshots that i want to look crystal clear and perfect. For some reason if i pull in an image it becomes distorted a little bit. seems like it was stretched slightly even when i do not scale it at all..And some images i bring in sized at the correct pixel size seem to import in larger than what i had specified???? Any recommendation of what i could do??? My presentation is sized at 700x 500. All my images are clear at their actual size for the presentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Screenshots Menu Worms3d
hi,
i came across a very nice way for a menu to display pictures, you can see what i mean on http://users.skynet.be/DevilMayCry/t...ts_worms3d.swf .
Nice huh. Well I know that it works with something you call drag and drop, but how for the rest, the zooming and swapping back and all. And is it also possible to get the pictures in there dynamicly??
I want to make a similiar menu like this for my website (Actually the same, but then with my own taste of design :-) )
Hope someone can help.
Thnx,

Vector Vs. Bitmap Screenshots
I did some testing a while ago that I thought I would share here. Unfortunately I can’t make the actual test files available, as there is proprietary information on the screens. I will, however, describe the conditions and results of the test:
In the last couple of years I’ve done quite a bit of software simulation with Flash, and often have ten or twenty screenshots in a single SWF. Obviously file size is an issue, so I decided to do a semi-formal comparision between bitmap screenshots and vectorized screenshots (i.e., screenshots converted to vectors using “Trace Bitmap”). This test was conducted using Flash MX 2004, and doesn’t take into account any of the new features of Flash 8.
The Screenshots:
I started with two completely new and empty FLAs. I took 15 screenshots from a web-based telecommunications company billing application that consisted of a series of forms. The form elements are standard HTML fields, buttons and comboboxes. There are also a couple of screens that review the terms of service and such, so a couple of them have a substantial amount of text.
The screen captures were pasted into Photoshop, and the browser interface cropped out (e.g., tool bar, menu bar, status bar). The cropped screenshots are all 870 pixels wide, but vary in height ranging from 400 to 1240 pixels.
Bitmap FLA:
Each of the 15 screenshots were then pasted as bitmaps into a completely new and empty FLA. A single instance of each screenshot was placed on its own separate keyframe. They weren’t resized or otherwise altered, nor did I adjust the JPG quality in the publish settings. The file was saved using File --> Save and Compact, and then published.
Vector FLA:
The screenshots were then each converted to vectors in Flash using Modify --> Bitmap --> Trace Bitmap. The settings used were:
Color threshold: 50
Minimum area: 1
Curve fit: Pixels
Corner threshold: Many corners
After being converted to vectors they were pasted into a completely new and empty FLA. (This ensured the original bitmap screenshots were never in the vector version’s library.) A single group of each screenshot’s vectors was placed on its own separate keyframe, identical in layout to the Bitmap version. They weren’t optimized, resized or otherwise altered. The file was saved using File --> Save and Compact, and then published.
Results:
Here are the file size results:
Bitmap FLA: 1000 KB
Bitmap SWF: 1300 KB
Vector FLA: 2800 KB
Vector SWF: 700 KB
It seems strange that the published SWF of the bitmap screenshots is larger than the raw FLA itself, but that’s the result. If anyone replicates the test, I’d be excited to hear the results.
The key interesting result for me was that the vectorized screenshot SWF is nearly half the size of the same bitmap screenshots. It doesn’t surprise me that the FLA is so much bigger; I’m sure that maintaining the editable vectors is substantial.
In practical terms, I could make the vector version of the screenshots even smaller by chopping out repeated portions of the screens (e.g., sidebar menus, header graphics) and replacing them with instances of a symbol.
In terms of other benefits/disadvantages, vector screenshots look much nicer when scaled to other sizes, but they do seem to be more processor-intensive. Tweening a vectorized screenshot, or any complex vector image, is certainly slower than the equivalent bitmap, but I haven’t actually tested that in any formal way yet.
Perhaps the primary reason I’m a fan of vectorized screenshots is that they can be edited directly in Flash. Removing text, chopping the screens into pieces, and other editing doesn’t require copying and pasting into Photoshop. Also note that vectorized screenshots are a prime candidate for Flash 8’s runtime bitmap caching, making performance issues much less of an issue.
I hope that’s useful to someone, I’d love to hear about any similar experiences!
Screenshots From External Swfs
How can i draw a movieclip that contains an external swf onto a BitmapData variable?
I'm loading the movieclip with:
moviecontainer=_root.createEmptyMovieClip("moviecontainer",10);
moviecontainer.loadMovie("pacman.swf",0);
Then i initialise the BitmapData var with:
var snap:BitmapData = new BitmapData(Math.floor(nwidth), Math.floor(nheight),false);
When a button is pressed i try this:
snap.draw(moviecontainer,new Matrix());
I expected the BitmapData snap to contain a screenshot from the external swf pacman.swf, but it doesn't.
Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
Text Problem Screenshots
hi,
i made some screenshots of the problems i had with my text.
i attached them below
in step 1.png: you can see the text is embedded in a movie_mc symbol
in step 2.png: i double click the movie_mc symbol in my library and when it opens up to stage, all the letters of the text are graphic symbols, and between each word there is a hollow bubble.
in step 3.png: i double click on the letter "m" which opens it up in symbol editing mode. This letter "m" can also be seen in the Font folder in the library.
Please please, let me know how i can recreate this type of text.
Thanks,
boy
Blend Modes And Screenshots
Hello, when playing with blending modes I noticed that they affect the background of an html page.
To me this says that flash is interpreting the image below and adjusting the pixels in flash. If this were true it would be possible to take screen shots of websites by overlaying a big flash file with absolute positioning.
You can check out the mock I made up to see what I mean:
http://themovement.info/flashtests/bbc.html
I tried copying the bitmap of _root and other movieclips but it does not record the html site in behind.
Any ideas? this could be totally sweet!
Flash-based Screenshots
i'm interested in making a couple of movies that are essentially capturing screenshots but I want it to be in Flash so that the cursor could be shown.
I've seen a couple of sites do this but am wondering if there is a program that will capture screenshots as a mpeg that i could then import into flash? i've googled but didn't find anything.
[MX] Screenshots Fuzzy - Resizing Graphics
I am having a hard time with my graphics. I have tutorial which is comprised of screenshots. The problem is that the screens are too big for my canvas - 968x578 so I am trying to resize them. When I do this, they turn blurry and fuzzy. I've tried using photoshop and I still have the problem b/c the screenshots are a lot of text with fonts that are not too big.
Anybody have any good suggestions or tricks in resizing?
Preparing Small Screenshots For The Web/print
I would like to ask for advice.
Two scenarios:
1. How best to prepare a screenshot for web use (say around 300 pixels wide). How can you best save detail.
2. How do you make a 300 dpi print-ready image of a website screenshot?
Thanks for your input!
[MX04]Simple Flash Question, Screenshots Included.
Need some basic actionscript help.
Here's wut i'm doing:
1. This site starts with a scene that contains a pre-loader. Once bytes have been loaded, it takes you to scene 2.
2. (Note: The document is 900x1000)
A flash intro plays, and when skipped or finished, takes you to the main site, this is simply done by adding empty keyframes where the existing intro animation was.
3. Still in the same scene, the main header loads.
4. That's all I've done for now, however, below the header is where I wish movie clips to be played (.swf's).
I would like to know how to: When I release on a button, it loads a specific swf file in the blank space in which I wish for it to load.
Do I make a blank movie clip container? If so can you tell me what actionscript I need to add to the buttons and/or the container itself?
Addtional questions:
1.
In addition to when a specific button on the header is pressed and loading a new movie clip, how can I make the image(model on the header, see image 3) change to a different one? Should i just make it jump to a different frame when the button is pressed?
2. My loader seems to load the finished page when its around the 50%-60% mark, can anyone tell me what is wrong with my action script?
Quote:
onClipEvent (load) {
total = _root.getBytesTotal();
}
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loaded = _root.getBytesLoaded();
percent = int(loaded/total*100);
percen1 = ""+percent+"%";
gotoAndStop(percent);
if (loaded == total) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
}
Many thanks in advance, hope It wasn't too hard to understand.

[MX04] Rotate Screenshots Of Websites In Fixed Size Box?
I want to put screenshots of some websites in a fixed size box but want the screenshots to either scroll up or to the side. I have seen this on a website

they have roughly what I want. I would like to know how they did it If anyone can help. Also how would you move the direction from side to side as well.....Thanks
Capture "live" Screenshots Of SWF
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to capture the screen (ie a screenshot / screengrab) from a flash animation once it is being viewed on a user's computer? I would like users to be able to generate a JPEG or GIF image of the way the screen looks (as they will be creating pictures using the drawing API and draggable shapes). This picture will then be saved to the server and emailed to them.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,

Why Is Taking That Much CPU?
In the project that I'm working on, I have under a mask (about 500x200) a movieclip with 4 pictures that are motion tweened and in the end of the mc some text motion tweened.
In the main scene I have some bouncing balls actionscripted, using some gravity formulas.
Now the problem....
When I play the swf, in the first part (the one with the pictures motion tweened) the bouncing balls are visibly slowed down (as if frame rate dropes), and I notice also that the CPU usage is quite high (85% approx.).
When the timeline arrives in the 2nd part (the one with the motion tweened text) everything is back to normal (CPU usage drops too...).
The size of the swf is 130k...the 4 imported pictures are PNG...Can I do something to fix the sluggish play in the first part?
Thank you!

3d For The Taking
Hi Gang,
I got pointed to a link by pedalspeed (most helpful chap). It was in the thread entitled "node code".
So anyway.. I took the code there and built a framework for the underlying 3d transforms (which I can't really understand cause Im sorta math stupid .
What I basically have here is a few objects which generate point sets (cirlces, cubes, and a grid) and a corresponding pointSet interpreters.
The point object is kinda special because it represents a point in space. I have a wrapper that assigns a glyph (mc) to each point. I did this because as I was coding a point, it just seemed to me that how the point is drawn is an arbitrary detail. Doing it this way, I could actually draw a 3d mc and attach that as the glyph to represent the point.
In sharing this, I hope others will build 3d (or 2d) point set objects and their interpreters. I was thinking about pie charts, or a globe even .
Lastly, the hardcore oopers may notice several patterns here. An iterator, a visitor and a factory. I think this piece represents a pretty broad range of the stuff I have learned about object oriented programming thus far.
anyway.. enjoy.

I Am Taking A Poll....please Help
Hello to all web developers. I am trying to take a poll about frustrations. Particulary using rich media authoring. There are a couple of questions actually....and they apply to all - beginners thru expert.
1. What frustrates you the most about using flash or rich media tools. Including audio & audio editing, graphics, animations (vector & bitmaps)and actionscripting??
2. What products/libraries/rescources would make your life easier - and save you time and money?? Even if they do not exist yet?? (For example....a library of flash web forms that covered a variety of scripting formats, PHP, CGI, Java- all drag n drop)
3. Would flash developers be interested in media assets like audio loop libraries, interactive flash banner libraries, motion graphic clip libraries, smart clip libraries....etc??
Thanks for your poll feedback...just interested in what others think!!

Airplane Taking Off?
i am going to be building a web site for a local travel agency. they wanted to have a intro with a airplane taking off from a runway. preferrably a 747 or something like that. i have looked all over here for a intro that would suite something like that and i could then load text to match the web site. does anyone know where i could find a fla file of this?
if not a airplane, then a cruiseship. anything for the travel agency. it just is going to be a intro then will autoredirect to the index2.htm page.
thanks in advanced...
sorry if i posted this in the wrong place, i wasnt sure where to post this.

Taking The Audio From SWF
Hi.
I'm recreating a project from a bunch of SWFs and I don't have the original FLAs. Is there a good way to extract the audio from the SWFs so I can re-build the animation?
[F8] Taking Animation Out
Hello all. Long time listener, 1st time caller here. Here's my issue:
I have designed a website using a template that the client selected from a website. Included in this was a flash header. The site itself contains a database and is also spliced with wordpress/AJAX technology. I'm having some issues with the flash header. My backend guy needs me to give him the .fla file, but needs it to contain NO ANIMATION. i do not have flash experience. is this complicated to do? like i said...i have the original flash file as well as the compiled .swf file. where do i got from here. you can view the header at:

Taking Xml Literally
let's say i load in some XML:
<root>
<pos>
<x>stage.stageWidth</x>
</pos>
</root>
And let's say i have a movieclip i would like to position by way of the xml value. This is simple if my value is numeric. But in this case, it's a relative position based on an unknown. Is there a way to import this value from xml, and later in my code , state:
mc.x=xml.pos.x
??
Taking To XML Through ActionScript
Hi there,
I'm currently working on a Flash Menu 'carosuel' and I've got to a point were I can't work out how to get the carousel to slow down and stop spinning once the cursor rolls out from the Flash area. I'm pulling in XML too, which I'm finding a bit tricky. Here's my code:
#include "mc_tween2.as"

var centerX:Number = Stage.width / 2 - 15;
var centerY:Number = Stage.height / 2.4;
var speed:Number = 0.05;
var perspective:Number =15;
var home:MovieClip = this;
var blurX:Number = 30;
var tooltip:MovieClip = this.attachMovie("tooltip","tooltip",10000);
tooltip._alpha = 0;
var xml:XML = new XML();
xml.ignoreWhite = true;
xml.onLoad = function()
{
var nodes = this.firstChild.childNodes;
numOfItems = nodes.length;
for(var i=0;i<numOfItems;i++)
{

Anyone Mind Taking A Look?
Please Take a look at my attached .FLA so you can see what I'm trying to explain....All Help Is GREATLY appreciated
================================================== ==========================================
Basically I have 6 Layers
RedButton
Blue Button
Green Button
OrangeButton
Text
Actions
Each of the buttons corresponds to a different word which I have nested inside the "Text" movieclip which when pressed SHOULD bring up the word with a little alpha from 0-100
Each word has an instance name to be referred to as well.
Here's my action script for the first button
this.RedButton.on(release){
_parent.Text.Hello.gotoAndPlay(2);
}
When it compiles it gives me an error of "Field name expected after "." operator. Anyone know what this is or how I can fix my code....see any other errors? What's the best way to approach this movie?
Thank you for all your help...you guys are awesome.
