Target From Paragraph Text
I need to target a new window (_blank) from one word in a whole paragraph of text.

In other words, only one of the words in a paragrah is the hyperlink and when I click it, it should leave my flash movie open and open a new browser window with the site i linked to.

I'm kindo of new to flash and can't figure out. Any help greatly appreciated.

A Paragraph Of Text In A Variable
I need to have a page of text in one variable. The problem is that I have different variables that contain different paragraphs. Then I want to add them (in a number of different orders) to one variable. How do I move down a row -or in other words how do I make a couple of spaces between the different paragraphs (like hitting Enter on the keyboard).

Text Paragraph Ending
I have a problem where I have a flash chat room and the first thing you do is log in with a name. This works. Next it goes to a loading screen that says thank you (name) and the proceeds to a title area where you choose to either chat, check for friends or change your name. Oh and of course exit. These are all working so far, but one prob. When you hit the send btn (button) it puts the text you typed in the text area with your name first. Example: (NAME): (TEXT)
Problem is it needs a paragragh space first. And I dont know the script for that. Any ideas?

Simple Text Link In A Paragraph
Hi,

It looks like I should just be able to slect "Dynamic" and "html" and "selectable" from the text options panel, and then just type in an href. But Flash is displaying the html instead of becoming a link.

I'm trying to just make a single word in a large paragraph a link. What's the best way to do this?

Text & Paragraph Actions Or Links
Is it possible to add links or actions to individual words in a paragraph in Flash CS3?? The idea is to link specific terms in the paragraph to a specific frame number in the time line. I donâ€™t think using buttons is the most efficient way since the text is updated frequently with new material. The most practical solution would be to add actions or links directly to the word in the text field. I have try selecting single words in the text area, but cannot assign actions or links to individual words.

Why The Extra Paragraph In Dynamic Text?

I've set up my database, PHP files and Flash files. All working fine. However I'm puzzled. If I enter the following text into the database:

This is paragraph 1. It contains some text to illustrate the contents of the first paragraph.
This is paragraph 2. It contains some text to illustrate the contents of the second paragraph.

The dynamic text box in Flash displays this entry as

This is paragraph 1. It contains some text to illustrate the contents of the first paragraph.

This is paragraph 2. It contains some text to illustrate the contents of the second paragraph.

Flash just adds an paragraph whatever. I tried it with text from a text file (no database, no php) and it does the same.

Any idea why? Or is this just another annoying quirk to add to
the mounting pile ?

Lost Paragraph Spacing Using Dynamic Text
Hello,

I'm having a problem with dynamic text.
Last year I´ve a flash 5 website with dynamic text and everithing worked fine.
The text appeared online as I wanted. Some paragraphs(Enter) and some to keep the txt line closer.

example:

&int1= • Lançamentos contabilísticos • Facturas de trabalhos classificadas • Documentos de despesa do caixa da unidade

&int2=• Lançamentos contabilísticos
• Facturas de trabalhos classificadas
• Documentos de despesa do caixa da unidade

Now, I had to update the website in MX(not 2004)and lost all the paragraph spacing, everything looks like I'm using next line spacing ( ) using the same *.txt that worked before.

Does anyone know how I can solve this problem

How To? Dynamically Called Text Antialised With Brakes In Paragraph
Hi all,
I am calling a text file in a movie, the text which i am loading is not looking antialised. I want to specify font and different sizes also I want to use and tags in the code. Basically I just want to make this page as any html page just with the antialised effect.

Adding Line Breaks And Paragraph Breaks In Dynamic Text - Best Method
I'm using dynamic text and wondering what is the best way (heck, any way) to mark line breaks or paragraph breaks. I'm curious about what Flash MX AS 1.0 is capable of/ supports. I have read a little about HTML enabbling and then using HTML tags, which is probably a good solution. Just wondering if there is something else, or if that is supported by AS 1.0 at all.

I have read a few threads on special characters (SC), including Moock's site, but line breaking doesn't seem to be part of SC.

And, I've read this, but it looks like it is for Action Script 2.0:

Does anyone know off hand if AS1 supports CSS, or was that new in AS2.

howdy - ive seen some nice text effects recently, and im looking for some resource on recreating them. Ideally im after a nice function / prototype for outputting a line of dynamic text, to a textfield in a nice way, rather than just dumping it on screen. So either letter by letter, or line by line, without having to do all the rubbish faux-effects by masking and tweening.

Paragraph Spacing?
Quick little minor question. Its been a very long time since I have been on flash. In fact, a long time since I have even been on my computer. So I am getting kinda rusty on all my programing skills. But, need a little help to get me back on my feet. How would you go about making a button in flash that does the following?
Takes the text from a certain text field and places it in another text field with a paragraph spacing in front of it.
Now I know how to make the text move from one to the other, but not to sure about the paragraph spacing. Should it be done using html in flash or is there a script in flash to do it? And if so, how?

[FMX] Paragraph Quiz
I had an idea for a quiz in flash.

There would be a input text field that contains a paragraph with multiple spelling errors.
The user would correct the errors and then check their answer. The quiz would assess the user and let them know what parts of the paragraph they got correct or incorrect.

My question: How would you check the multiple errors in the paragraph via action script?

Identifying A Paragraph In A String
I want to load an external file (.txt) and it has some paragraphs.

Let's say the text is:

bac
cba

and my code is:

i know i could just put something like ";" in the text and then use that to split the text but i really want a paragraph.

Remove Paragraph Returns
Hello,
is there a trick to do the following:
I paste text from a .txt file into AS3 but you have to remove the paragraph returns. I'm a bit confused by this, how can you be sure you did this right??
If the text isn't formatted correctly, the swf is flickering on the screen when testing the flashmovie.
Sure you can try over and over again but it's a serious nerve-testing job :-)

Blank Paragraph Returns
I'm doing some eLearning and I've got to give feedback. Somtimes it is just "That is correct." and other times it is:

Here is some discussion about what the corrct answer is etc.

I want to have a blank line between the feedback and the discussion. I'm using html text and style sheets and that part is all working, but I couldn't find a good way to get that blank in there. The attached code does seem to work. But putting in a non-breaking space paragraph wrapped in a span seems rather like a hack and not the best way.

Anybody else have any suggestions? (This is publishing to Flash 7.)

Writing A Paragraph Through Dynamic Textbox
I am trying to write a paragraph ( its for school project ) and i am using dynamic textbox and variables. I linked a button with

on(release){
textbox = " .... "
}

to target my textbox, changing its text. The only problem is, I am trying to write an essay type format, which has several paragraphs within it, and if i have enters within the code, it screws up, like the example below.

textbox = " first paragraph.
new paragraph goes here."
}

Could anyone tell me how i write in the dynamic textbox to allow it to have paragraph indents and spacing. thx!

Paragraph Symbols When Editing Code
I don't know how it happened... :-(

Flash 8, since yesterday, when I'm writing code, shows me with "centered dots" the spaces and the end of the paragraphs with the symbol of "end of paragraph" (like a P mirrored in horizontal). Why is doing this? I assume I have hitted a "Ctrl+Something", because I've resetted the prefs and the problem persist. What can I do? It's quite annoying to see this everytime I code! Linking Loses Paragraph Formatting
I create an ordinary text field, make the margins justified, choose my font and set the font size to 13.5 pt. This works just fine.

When I add a link to one of the words in the paragraph (in "Properties"), it still looks fine on the screen. The problem is that when testing or publishing the movie, that paragraph is displayed as left-aligned and the font size is reduced to perhaps 12 or 13 pt. All text fields without links still work fine.

The font size doesn't really matter, if I use 14 pt it seems to work fine, but the paragraph alignment bug is harder to ignore. If I for example use paragraph left margin, this will also be lost when publishing the movie.

Is this a known bug? Is there some workaround?

Can I Animate A Paragraph's Leading (line Spacing)?
I have a project where I need to create the look of all the lines of copy falling down into one pile at the bottom. It doesn't look like Flash will let me animate the leading directly. Does anyone know if I can do it using actionscript? The lines don't need to jumble up or tilt, they just need to all squish down at the bottom.
Any ideas?

Loading External TXT - Paragraph Spacing Issues...
If I want to load an external TXT fiel and NOT allow HTML formatting, what is the best way to format copy?

I know I can't do any bolds or hyperlinks, but the issue I have is the space between the paragraphs. In the TXT file, there is one space between each paragraph. When I load the SWF, it looks like there are 2 or 3 spaces between the paragraphs.

The reason I ask is for simple content managed areas. For people who don't know HTML and just want to change the copy.

Dynamic Text Box In External SWF. How To Target The Text Box In AS3?
Hello... I am loading an external file into a master file. The external file is loading into an empty movie clip that sits on the stage of the master file. This external file that is being loaded in has a dynamic text box that I'm trying to target using AS3.

The way it was done in AS2 was emptyMovieClipName.textBoxName.text="whatever"

I tried to target my text box using this same code but it doesn't work in the AS3 environment.

Any clues how to do this in AS3 would be appreciated!!!

the textbox is placed in a movie clip that follows the mouse, but it doesnt work.

the same dynamic textbox placed on the main stage works on rollover.

Target Text Fields
I am trying to figure out how to control text fields objects. I have a project that I am working on here that the text is dynamically loaded from XML inside a "button" if you will, and I have a simple MOUSE_OVER so that the button tweens. Problem is, the text is screwing it all up so I disabled the text using selectable = false. The project works.

Now I have another problem, I have to be able to make the text selectable on MOUSE_DOWN so that users can copy the text and then have everything return to non selectable at some point. Im just having a horrible issue with this. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate this and thanks in advance.

Dynamic Text: Target Self
I have a few html links in a dynamic text box from a .txt file I'm importing. I'm wondering if and how I can go about having the links load in the dynamic text field instead of a new window.

In other words, I want the dynamic text field to target itself... maybe something like this in the .txt file?

TARGET=”_BLANK” In Flash Text Box
When creating a HTML text box within a Flash movie, is it possible use a:

TARGET=”_blank”

tag. I’ve tried using:

<A HREF=”http://myprecious.co.uk” TARGET=”_blank”>MYPRECIOUS.CO.UK</A>

But unfortunately it just comes up with a load of errors.

Please for the love of...relieve my headache, tell me there is a way!!

Target Dynamic Text Box From LoadMovie SWF?
I have a template that loads SWFs from the main timeline. When you click a nav button or next and back buttons, each loads a SWF into level 2 and automatically updates the dynamic text box assigned var pageNumber.

I need to use a button on a loaded SWF to update the dynamic text box on the main timeline. My code unloads the SWF and loads a new SWF -is working. My pageNumber will not update. I have tried adding _parent to everything. I'm missing something . . . somewhere . . .

Here's what I have on the SWF button.

"obj2strt" is identified as 2 on main timeline, which = 2.
I tried just telling it movieNumber = 2, which works.

i've tried dynamic textfield calling
variable of a string of html code (like <a href="www.site.com"> click </a> to go)

now, i wonder whether i can add actionscript in the some words of the textfield to call a movieclip to move or calling a function once user click the hyperlink word in the textfield?

Loaded Text Target Problem
I am building a site with multiple movieclips. Each of these MC's will have externally Loaded Text files, to be displayed in dynamic text boxes as a variable. I have done this a few times in single SWF sites, and always works well.

So my external SWF loads the txt file fine by it self, but once I load that SWF into the main page, it stops loading the text.

Here is the main page: (click on "about 242" to see the page I am having a problem with)

the text that gets loaded in:
http://www.242online.com/text/about242.txt

so you can see the SWF by itself works. so I know it is an issue with the target. I just have no idea how to fix it.

Anyone know an easy fix? I need to basicly do the same system on 4 other pages for this site. I need the text to be loaded in externally for easy updating/editing.

How To Target <img Src=...> In Dynamic Text Field?
Not sure if this is technically an AS question or not, but here goes..

I have a Parent movie and within it a single child level movie. Within the child level, there is a dynamic text field that I've set to support HTML. I want to display a graphic within the dynamic text field from an external .AS file. So far, I haven't been able to get it to work.

The graphic is in the same folder as the flash and .as files.

How do I target the img? Do I use standard dot notation? or is there a way to use standard directory pathing (ie. ../image.jpg)?
