Text In Action
Using some teaching from this great site I have embedded text in flash by putting the text in actions and then using dynamic text. Is there a way of having text in bold but not all of it, just example the title what should I do to make it bold.

Cannot Paste Text Into Action For Text Scroller-i Get An Error
Hi guys!
ok hehe can anyone tell me whats going on here??? I am using a pritty cool little text scroller and need to use about 10 versions of the same one im doing in a flash file..so about on 10 different scenes.Anyhow for some reason this text here works when i copy it into the action for the text scroller:

I’m working on a project and I trying to make it when you click down on a button that click will send you to a point in the movie and then a symbol will play from there. I know that you need to pick the key with the button on it in the time line and then I know you need to pick the button that you would like to assign the GoToAndPlay statement on.
But what’s really messing with me is where in the heck the on release or the on mouse down statement is in the little action a book when are looking in the action window.
Any help would be much appreciated.

and I want to animate my text....I haven't used it in a while and I use to be able to animate the text but I no longer know where the option is....could someone help me

Text Action Script Help
hey guys i have a problem and need some help (don't we all?)...
i have this text field where i want some text to appear one letter at a time. The only way i know how to do this is using keyframes and adding to the text field one letter in each keyframe. as u can imagine it's driving me insane and i'm sure there's a much faster and simpler way to do it with actionscript. do you guys know how i can do this?
is there some way to use a loop that increments the text until it's all shown in the movie?

Animated Text Action
I have been trying in vain to get a simple fade in text movie to appear on a web page by clicking a button (text symbol) on the same page. I am using Flash 5 and also tried creating in Swish 2.0. What am I missing? Does a template exist for this effect? Thanks for the assist.

Its been a while since i have been here , and i need some help plz .
I developed a chat application in flash with php backend -
here is the problem .
The text loads into the flash txtField from the top instead of the bottom . it's loading in from a txt doc with help from php does anyone have a clue as to why or some hints when i should start looking ..

My Action Text Is Invisible
An odd glitch i've run into here. A while back I turned on a large number of fonts (using Mac's Font Book). InDesign had no trouble handling it, but several programs including Flash MX 2004 were slowed to a crawl.
To fix the problem (several days later) I turned off nearly all the fonts and went back re-organizing them and turning only only the ones I needed. Occasionally I would open up a document which was missing fonts, turn them on in FontBook and it was no problem.
The weird glitch I've run into though is that if I open up the "Actions" window in Flash, any code that appears in that box (for buttons, frames, etc...) is invisible. I can copy and paste it into a text document and it shows up - but it's impossible to see in flash - which makes programming difficult.
Has this happened to anyone else before (i'm on a Mac running 10.4.6)? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the program, but to no avail. I've also tried to make sure that all of the basic fonts (ventura, geneva, etc..) are turned on.
Any thoughts would be great on what might make that text magically re-appear.

Add Get URl Action To Dynamic Text
I bought a template for dynamically generated text links generated using an array and some effects. I am trying to add a simple get url function to the buttons, which I can apply tot he background of the flash file. The problem is that the links only work when you click on the background but not where the text is.
When I try to add the get url function to any of the elements that came with the template it says that no actions can be placed on the elements.
Is there any way around this so that where ever you click the get url function will work??

Variables In A Text Field And In A Action?

I have called a variable using the following frame action:

This has worked fine, and the movie recalls the variable and goes and stops at the appropriate frame.
but...I have now placed a text field on the same MC where the above action is placed, and i want to add the following action where by:

Set Variable: "textfield" = "variable called before (in go to and Stop action)"
It works fine if I call the text field /:choice1 but that is no good to me. How does it change if the variable being set is in a textfield rather than a frame action?

Changing Text With Action Script
I have, hopefully, a simple problem. I am trying to create a flash movie that will act as a simply text editor. Users can type in text then select some and bold it, underline it, change color, etc. I got this working fine, however these changes do not show up in the HTML code unless you click in the text box and type something after you have already made changes (bold, underline, etc). When text is changed with code the variable does not pick up the new HTML tags. I want people to be able to edit text and save it to a txt file, but if the HTML tags don't show up, the changes they made won't either. I have an example of what I am taking about. You type in the box on the left and see the HTML code on the right. Notice when you bold some text it does not show up in the HTML code, but if you type again the tags all of a sudden show up. Is there code I can add to my buttons to somehow activate the text box and retrieve the new HTML tags?

I am trying to utilise an image scroller, yet when I use action text that has quotes in it I get errors as it signifies something to the script..
ie:

Text Display With Action Script
I have been using Flash MX 2004 Professional for about 3 months, and I'm working on my first interactive marketing presentation in the Flash environment. I am trying to build a simple menu button that displays text on-screen when the mouse rolls over. Then when pressed, launches to a different screen in the presentation. I know it's probably not that difficult with the right syntax in Action Script, but for some reason I'm struggling. Any help is appreciated.

Random Action Script With Text
Hi everyone,
I am really new to Flash MX, as i have only been using it for one day, so any help would be much appreciated.
I have a list of 30 questions, such as All athletes are, all footballers are, and I would like to create a box which when I run the movie selects any one of these 30 questions on a random basis.
Does anybody know I can can set 30 questions (pieces of text) and then use a dynamic text box, to choose any one of these at random everytime the movie runs??

Help: Scrolling Text Box Frame Action
I'm trying to make a scroll text block, and I've chosen this method:

Some how this isn't working, perhaps because I have many lines that skip to the next, with the "enter" button.
Is there some easy way to copy and paste this text into the code that this will work?

Dynamic Text And Button Action
ok, I have two buttons,
when i rollOver BTNone, text slide out from a box.
when i rollOut the text slides back.
when I rollOver BTNtwo, the same piece of text changes,
but the movie is already going back to to frame 1.
If I get to my BTNtwo before the sliding movie gets back to Frame 1,
how can I make it stop in its tracks and go back to frame 24?

How To Extend A Text Box Via Action Script.
Hi Flash folk,
If i add text to a text box dynamically then how do i extend the text box to fit all the text in it.( Will not know how much text will be inserted into the box).

Url In To A Button Action From A Text File
HI I'm trying to load a variable url in to a button action from a text file.
My text file looks like this:

Where Do I Type In The Action Script Text?
I have to ask the most basic question that's probably ever been asked in this forum- "where do I physically enter the action script text inside Flash"? Is this done from the Action panel and if so, where in the action panel?
I'm going through the tutorials here and don't see any instructions anywhere that tell me where to type the action scripts? If I launch the Action panel, all I see are what look like Action Script "presets". For example, if I want to practice the setProperty tutorial...where would I enter the example script....

To Capture A Text And To Put It In The Panel Action
I want to capture the text typed by a user with the keyboard and to use it in a program (written in the panel action).
For instance, the user types the text "TEXT" and the program automatically catch this text and process it (for instance, the program writes this same text in bold letters; so the text TEXT appears in the result panel).
How can I do?

is there a way to animate text with action script so that the text letter by letter and when a line finishes then the next line begins and at the end of the last line the whole thing fades out? if this is possible with AS or if anyone has an easy way to do this besides frame by frame animation

Editing Text In Action Script
I am trying to edit the text in a text effect file. I opened the ActionScript for the item and changed the text. However, only the last 2 letters of the new text show up in the effect. Here's the ActionScript. The text I"m trying to edit is on line 66.

Hi, in this file portofolio.zip there is a fla file with an fading code to change continous pictures. But what I else need is to change or apear every text for every pic (maybe each text load a file.txt) and use to change them not only the arrows, the numbers too.

Action Script For Scrolling Text
I have a text field on a layer using dynamic text and html. My 2 buttons on a 2nd layer with this AS:
Up Button:
on (release) {
scrollText.scroll +=2 ;
}
Down Button:
on (release) {

I don't like the choppy action you get with this method (by simply changing the +=2 to +=1.3.4. etc.) Is there AS that will scroll the text continuously when the button is pressed? I don't want a scroll BAR, I need my 2 seperate buttons positioned on stage where I want them. Thanks for any suggestions.

When i play the proyect the letter that i put in the dynamic text box is repeated constantly, and not the text that i'm placed in the variable "TEXT".

Random Text Action Script
I've got a Flash idea/project that would involve action script that I am too green to figure out.
What I want to do is:
Display a flash movie that would load words randomly.
For instance I would (I'm guessing) make a list of words in a text file.
And the action script would randomly display each word one right after the other.
So it would display: Apples... Oranges... Pears... Bananas... Grapes...
Each about 2 seconds before going to the next Fruit.
Also, to make things more difficult I would want to be able to weight some of the words more heavily than others.
So the word "bananas" would show up more often, "Grapes" would show up less often, but more than "Apples"
Also, would there be a way for some words to appear LONGER on the screen than others. For instance, Apples would be on the screen LESS time, than a longer words or phrases like "fruit cocktail in a decorative bowl"
This would allow people TIME to read the longer phrase.
I am hoping that this can be done with an external txt. file that the flash file reads... but I don't know.
But I'm no expert! I am a graphic designer, trying to understand ActionScript/Flash
Whenever I want to add another "Fruit" to the list, I go to the text file, TYPE in the name of the FRUIT and somehow notate how many seconds I want that word to stay on the screen before it displays another word in the list of fruit.
Does this make sense? LOL!
