Flash :: Trace Bitmap

Trace Bitmap?
When you import a bitmap image....then MODIFY> TRACE BITMAP the image....can you get rid of the bmp file that is in the library?...cause bitmaps add up in file size. Once you do a trace..you should have a vector image..which is WAY smaller correct?. I wouldl like to start messing with this type of feature...can anybody answer these questions...or give tips on this type of stuff?

When To Use Trace Bitmap And When Not To?
I've been playing around with importing movies into flash 5. Using a jpg sequence. Our teacher says that its best to convert the jpg images to bitmap traces. However whenever I do this the file size nearly doubles.

So when should the trace bitmap be used and when should you just keep your images jpgs?

hi guys, i am having trouble using trace bitmap function.
what i wanna do is make these kick ass images that are like made from shadows and tunes of just one colour, can i do that with flash?
the thing is, i am wondering whether the image i am using is too complez, does it matter? should it?

its a pic of a guy mountain climbing, and i want to get that effect i see i many sites, a kind of pop art, cartoon look, with a few tones of the same colour

any help or any other ways of doing it?

How Do You Trace A Bitmap?

I have a movie that I converted to a sequence of BMPs using Adobe Premiere, and now I want to trace all of the frames, just not one by one...how can I tell Flash to do it to all 400 frames at once?

Hi, I am having to change all my bitmaps to vector because apparently they eat alot of the memory and my animation is staggering alot. By tracing bitmap and having the settings at 1, 10 , pixels an very tight will this reduce the memory enough??

My images are all photoshop files that are basically black outline cartoons coloured in on photoshop, so they don't have many colours to them, just a darker colour for each colour to give a shadow effect thats all. What is a good setting to use for this type of imagery?

Hi I am entering a tshirt design into a competition and the file need to be under 60kb. I have imported my image into flash and have been trying to trace bitmap the image. There is a limit of 4 colours in the competition, but trace bitmap seems to make a whole load more. I want to keep the image as close to the original as possible, but a lower file size. Does anyone know what settings it should be on for this?

i friend surgested the trace bitmap with fl mx i been playing around with it for sometime now and just dont get the right effect.
any guys/gals have any tips for me. any tuts or even a free prog that will do it all.

JPG Vs. Trace Bitmap
Hi everyone,

I'm doing the layout for an animation and I am wondering whether it is more processor-friendly to use JPG's in my background, or to vectorize them with the trace bitmap tool. These images will be static, and I use Flash MX.

Is there any way to use the trace bitmap command on an entire sequence of images without having to trace every frame individually, or at least a hotkey to help speed up the process? just to clarify, i have a sequence of 150 frames that i want to apply the same trace bitmap settings to, but I have had to select each frame and select the trace bitmap command. it just seems like there would be a simpler way.

I wonder if there is a function in ActionScript that can let me trace a bitmap file on the fly though scripting: something like myimg.TraceBitmap(), instead of having me to open a *.fla and work it there.

Hello gang, well i need some advice on how to fix this problem.

I am doing a high resolution trace bitmap, see i needed to have a border and by importing from photoshop, anything transparent turns into white. So i figured, ill trace bitmap, then just highlight the white part and delete it.

It worked, but now whenever i try to use the symbol (which i converted into a movie to be able to alpha fade) it is bogging down the machine a little.

I tried going into the movie clip and selecting the image (which took a minute) and then i converted it into a graphic symbol hoping it would make it into a regular graphic but it just moved the trace bitmap into the new symbol.

I have a pretty fast machine and i can still see a little jerkyness whenever i fade it out.

Any ideas, suggesions.

Trace Bitmap Problem
I have some jpeg images that were created using photoshop. Everytime when I try to do a trace on this image (modify-trace bitmap), it always always freezes half way through, and I have to terminate the program and start over again.

Anyone can help me with that?

Hello everyone, first time i post on FK and im hoping for alot of resonds to my question(s). I have a JPg i would like to convert into Flash, i managed to do that but the amount of Pen Marks there are is overwhelming and i cannont grap one Rounded edge with pointer tool to creat a Shape Tween. Usually i am the person to not give up but i cant do it, i tried everything

Trace Bitmap Question
How do you convert bitmaps to vector and still keep them looking close to the original and the file size low. I have seen quite a bit of various flash sites on flashkit and wonder how those graphics are so clean and picture perfect. Any help would be appreciated, even perferred settings on trace bitmap. Trace Bitmap At Runtime - Is This Possible?

I am wondering whether Flash's excellent trace bitmap feature is available through actionscript at run-time. I wish to try and use flash to accomplish this task from within a Director projector, accessing an external bitmap image.

Hi, I was wondering if it possibly to trace bitmap more than one frame at a time or perhaps a softeware that can do this. I like to pencil test in different programs, but ink in flash. Any help is appreciated. Here are pencil test in gif format that I wish to convert to vector, and not frame by frame because it'll take too long.

Trace Bitmap With More Than 1 Image
Hi, I import a series of images for an animation. I would like to use the tool "trace bitmap" on each of them. Is it possible to make it only 1 time instead of click on each image and apply the trace bitmap?

Trace Bitmap....freezes
Trace bitmap works fine on "looser" settings but when I try to get the greatest fidelity by using tighter settings, it traces
about 3/4 and then just freezes up and i have to force quit Flash and start over.

Any idea??

This is the tight setting I'm using to maintain picture fidelity:
Color Thres: 10
Min Area: 1
Curve: pixel
Corner Thres: Many Corners

I've also tried using smaller size jpegs and bitmaps....no cigar.

I want to use trace bitmap for an image on my site but the image either looks nothing like the original image or too much like it with the settings I have tried.

How can I achieve the same style as the helmet in the bottom-right on www.robcroydon.com? I know for a fact that it was a photo and it had trace bitmap applied to it but I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest some settings for me please.

Is there a way to trace the bitmap of a user's mouse pointer?

Cause I need to use the user's exact pointer for a animation for my site.

I've been thinking, maybe take two bitmaps, one of the flash document with the mouse and one with it hidden, then find the difference?

Hey guys quick Flash concept question. Does have regular bitmaps in your site in Flash bog down the site? I mean will the site run smoother if everything is ocnverted to vector using trace bitmap? In my case, it's not big pictures or anything, it's small little buttons or whatnot, but I would like to know if it is worth losing a bit of the bitmap quality to trace it.

Batch Conversion For Trace Bitmap

Have a 3D Max scene where the camera zooms into a city - the start to a comic strip. Want to trace bitmap the bitmap sequence rendered in Max, but can only seem to do it one frame at a time. Is there a way to do a batch trace bitmap, so I don't have to do each frame individually.

hi, i was wondering if its possible to show a trace bitmap in an animation, like how a tween, showing it change from the original jpeg to the new bitmap

or

have a "scan line" move down the image and as it goes down, whatever it has passed, changes to the new traced image

Is The Only Way To Animate A .jpg Image Is To Do A Trace Bitmap Of It First?
Hi, I'm trying to animate a .jpg image in flash.

I have the .jpg file and what I'm trying to do with it is a shape tween with the color.

I want it to start pure white and slowly fade in to the image (with the shape tween)

It doesn't do that though. I set one key of the picture painted white. The next is the picture original. I put a shape tween on both of them and all it does is keep the white image until the original image. It doesn't fade or anything.

I also want to make it move right and left with motion tween. Maybe animate the alpha up and down and other simple animations like that.

So is the only way to animate the jpg...is to trace bitmap it?

I think I've seen a lot of sites with a .jpg image just animating moving around or changing colors. They don't look like a trace bitmap. I could be wrong though.

If trace bitmap is the only option... than what settings would I use to make it look almost as perfect as the original .jpg?

Trace Bitmap - More Than 1 Frame @ A Time
Is it possible to use the Trace Bitmap function on more than 1 image at a time? I was considering using is to make composited particle effects look less realistic and more like a cartoon when I import them back into my flash movie. If I have to individually use Trace Bitmap on each frame one-at-a-time for 300 frames [or more] I may go insane.

[F8] Trace Bitmap For Multiple Frames At Once
Title pretty much says it all. Is this possible? I have 240 raster images (as part of an animation) that I want to convert to vector graphics using the Trace Bitmap feature. Do I have to manually do it on every single frame or is there a faster way? Going to the menu bar, finding the Trace Bitmap and clicking "OK" for each frame takes a small eternity :/

If not possible in Flash, do you know some other apps that can do this?

Symbol Vrs Bitmap Trace (smaller?)
Im trying to reduce the file size of my movie (just for the sake of my computer not the actual publish) And I did all my drawing/editing with huge objects that are all bitmap traced. I was wondering, if i converted them all to symbols would it make my flash movie size smaller? Or is there so small of a diffrence its not worth the effort?

Basic Questions Regarding Trace Bitmap
Hello. This is a novice question so please be patient (i already checked the tutes on this site)

i am trying to do a trace on a photo, i want to empty the color of a person in the photo and fill the white space with color using a tween, like kind of "filling up" the persons shape. then i would like to replace the colored space with the original persons image.

i have been told to do a trace. which i did, but that took ages. my real problem was, once i have emptied the image of color, how do i return the overall photo to a bitmap ?
