Scrollable XML Menu
I am writing a stand alone application with a windows style menu. For the menu I have used the menubar and menu components that are built into flash 8 and I populate the menu's with an XML file.

Some of my menus have many options, so many in fact that the menu dissapears of the bottom of the window. Now I have seen menus (eg ghostwire) where if the menu is too long by simply moving the mouse to the bottom of the open menu pane it scrolls to show the unseen options.

I have searched but have found no tutorials on how this is done, can anybody help me out.

Cheers

Scrollable Menu / Buttons
In my current project I've got an overwhelming need to have a scrollable menu.. that also uses buttons because of the effects that they can have and all.... what I'm looking for is something Zero uses at super here for the menus he has on the subsections, here's the url: http://www.superhere.net

The thing is I don't know how to begin to do it... can anyone point me in the right direction, or show me a tutorial or something so that I can get that same effect?

Scrollable Menu Problem
Hi. I'm using Flash 5 and have a problem creating a scrollable menu.

First, let me explain the situation: I've got a menu that has 12 links but there's only room for six. Therefore, I want to use up and down arrows to make the menu scroll in the appropriate direction. I can manage this without a problem (by making the menu a movie and using a lot of the STOP action and motion tweening the menu).

The problem I face is that I also need each menu option to trigger a graphical rollover on another part of the page. WITHOUT the scrolling menu this is simple, just a case of using the ROLLOVER and ROLLOUT to jump around the timeline. WITH the scrolling menu it's a mess and my scrolling menu disappears a lot of the time or behaves erratically.

This is what I'm using for each button right now:
==========================
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay ("Scene 1", 5);
}

Any ideas?

XML Scrollable Pop-up Elastic Menu? How?
Hello,
I've been looking for something similar in the movie section of Flashkit, but I wasn't really successful. Can you help? I'm looking for a tutorial or a link to an .fla that would show me the basics of creating a dynamic scrollable pop-up elastic menu. I'd like to use it to put songs in it from my XML Flash MP3 player. An example of what I'm talking about is at http://www.theisleybrothers.net/ When you click the arrow on the MP3 player, a box opens up and you can scroll different songs. I think this is really nice, and I'd like to learn how to do something like this using XML and Flash. Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks!

Scrollable Menu List...
I'm hoping this post won't come of too annoying as i'm faily new to flash.... but i'm a musician who is working on my website as i learn. This is what i want to do... I'm building a media player and i want it to come alive and be my jukebox on my website for my music. The thing is i don't have a clue how to start with a scrolling songlist menu. I was hoping people could post sugestions or guide me to tutorials that will help me learn. This is what i want to do in detail...

When i click on the "songlist" button on the media player, a scrollable song list will apear, each song in the list will have a picture of the artist that will display as the song is highlighted in the list. When a song is selcted from the list, the list disapears and the picture of the artist stays and the song starts playing. I will need to edit the songlist from time to time as well.

Thanks in advance for being patient with me.

Dynamic Menu That Is Scrollable
I'm using a menu like Kirupa.com's Squirrel Finder Menu (http://www.kirupa.com/web/xml/exampl...rrelfinder.htm) that dynamically loads data from an XML document and displays it in the menu.

The problem is, I have so many items to display that the menu is too big for the page! I'd like to be able to make the menu scroll but am having difficulties because:
1. The menu is a movieClip
2. The Data is loaded dynamically and has dynamic Text boxes
3. The menu items are loaded into a movieClip within the menu movieClip. The menu item movieClip is created on the fly via "createMovieClip".

I've tried a number of different movieClip scroll methods found on the internet without much luck. Since the content is loaded dynamically, it seems the menu scroller thinks there's nothing there, thus won't scroll or won't display the menu.

As a workaround, I'd be happy to do something perhaps where the menu items would display, say, 10 at a time, with a "next" button at the bottom, allowing the following 10 items to be displayed (like the way Search Engine results are displayed I suppose). But, unfortunately I have not found a way of doing this either.

If anyone knows a way of using either one of these methods to display a menu like the Squirrel Finder one, or can point me in the direction of a tutorial on the web that works (!) please let me know. I would very much appreciate any help I can get!!

Thanks.

Drag From Scrollable Menu
Hi, I'm creating a drag and drop game for kids. There are too many items to have on the stage at once, so I need to have something like a library to store all the mc's in. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any tutorials on how to have a scrolling menu that I can drag movie clips from and drop them onto the stage.

Thanks, Any help is appreciated.

Scrollable Horz Menu Needed?
I am looking for a menu component (preferably mx) that will allow me to load an unlimited number of menu items.

The idea is to have a transparent clipping movie with a predefined clip width to serve as the viewport for the menus it contains.

Once the combined width of the individual menu items exceed the viewport width, a scrolling widget would appear on the right edge of the viewport which would allow the clipped menus to be moved into view. Once this happens, the same scrolling widget would appear on the left edge of the viewport, signalling that menus are overflowing in that direction and can be scrolled back into view as well.

In other words, if the number of menus were not sufficient to span the width of the viewport, no scrolling tabs would be needed and thus none would appear. However, if the total width of the menus exceeded the predefined width of the clipping viewport, then the right edge scroller would appear first. Then when the menus have been scrolled to the left, a left edge scrolling tab would appear, allowing the menus to be scrolled in the opposite direction.

If such a component exists, please point me to it. Or perhaps someone could give me some idea of how this might be built.

I Need A Scrollable Flyout Menu System...
Hi,

I need to build a menu system which, when a buton is rolled over makes visible a scrollable window with text, pics, links etc. On rollout I'd like for it all to go away and leave just the initial button visible.

I don't know where to start with this one!

Any ideas?

Help greatly appreciated!

Drop Down Menu With An Active Scrollable Search List
I need to create a drop down menu box, which is scrollable, as there will be a lot of different items on this menu (possibly over 100!). I found a quite a useful tutorial on : http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials.shtml, which is in the Advanced Level at No1. entitled : Active Search List, the creater is Flash Junkie. ]
The menu that is shown in the aforementioned site, is exactly what i'd like to create, except it does not need to be as complicated as that, for example the whole menu is draggable and I do not require for this action to be performed.
However I'm finding the aforementioned tutorial a little bit too complicated to follow, can anyone help me with designing such a menu.

Many thanks in advanced.
Kind regards,

Flash Menu Transparent Over A Static Html Menu, Can It Be Done?
To ensure I have noticeable menu items (if user does not have flash installed)acting as a menu that, in principle, is part of the background.

I have made a nice little flash menu and would like it to mimic the menu text underneath it. So, transparent flash over a static html menu, can it be done?

Transparent Drop Down Menu
I wish to create a transparent dropdown menu-system in Flash and paste it into Dreamweaver. My webpage has two frames - the top one which hopefully will have the menu system, and the bottom one where all the pages will be opened.

My problem is that the dropdown menu disappears below the bottom frame, making the menu list invisible. IF anyone understands what I am on about, any hint or advice would be very welocme! Is this at all possible?
The thing is that I don't want it all to be in the same page, as I have to reload the logo for the site and the menu for each page, or ...?

Thnx for any help!

Flash Menu In Layer With Wmode Transparent
I made a flash header with a drop-down menu.

I placed the swf in a layer on top of the html-content of the website.

Problem:

All links that are right under the swf-movie (aka the layer) are not clickable.

How can I solve this problem so that all content underneath the layer with the swf is acessible ?

Transparent Menu Over HTML Positioning Problem
Hi, I made a Flash SWF horizontal navigation menu, it is only 427 pixels wide, and the site is designed to make use of an 800 x 600 resolution (so the site is 779 pixels wide). Currently I am using a table to position the content, with a bit of CSS.

The issue that I'm having, is that my navigation menu when it's not being used is 73 pixels in height, however, when you roll over the buttons, transparent menu lists drop down from them to a height of about 150 pixels. Since my navigation menu is 73 pixels tall, the image that fills the remaining 352 pixels (352 + 427 = 779 pixels wide) is set as the background for the table cell to avoid that small amount of padding that you can't get rid of at the bottom of an image if it were in the cell using an img tag. However, with a table row height of 73 pixels, the menu gets cut off and doesn't display anything below 73 pixels (the Flash movie is cut to 73 pixels as well in the FLA's properties). But, then if I make the row let's say 150 pixels high, then the image in the cell to the left that completes the left side of the menu repeats itself along the Y axis, which is no good either. I could turn the repeat off, which would make it look fine, but then the new issue that comes up, is that the text that I want to start right below the menu would end up starting about 77 pixels too low, and would completely ruin the effect of having the transparent menu overlapping the HTML text when it's triggered. The whole site is centered, so absolute positioning would be a huge pain.

Some solutions I've thought of include making the Flash item 779 x 150 pixels, and including that left area, but this would result in the next table row being 77 pixels too low anyway. I could fix that with relative positioning, but that would leave a big blank area below everything (since the original place of the item is kept intact). Absolute positioing could work for the menu, but since the whole site is centered, that could cause some issues if the window is resized, since it is "floating" in the center.

Are there any other solutions that you guys could think of, with CSS or something? Anything? Maybe there's something I'm missing as far as positioing, window mode, a Flash publishing setting to make it work? I'm kind of at a loss on this one .

Thanks.

Dhtml Menu And Transparent Flash Movie
I have a flash movie that is a application form. There is also a dhtml pull out menu. if the <param name=wmode value=trasparent /> is not set the dhtml menu will appera behind the movie.
However when i set this attribute, in firefox and netscape 7 i  am not able to write/select the form to put in any input.

Is there a way to make a dhtml menu go over the flash movie and allow me to select the form for data entry?

How Do I Click A Menu Item And Open Up A Semi Transparent Layer?
Hi,

I learned Flash 4 a couple of years ago and did a few fairly nice but not too complicated flash sites. Since then I never picked it up. Now I want to do another web site.

I couldn't find any tutorials where when user clicks a menu item, a semi-transparent layer opens up and displays some text, images, etc.

Could someone give me some pointers -- a starting point -- on this?

I assume a button opens up a movie symbol but I'm not sure. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Problems With Flash Transparent Drop Down Menu Over Html In Some Browsers
Hi everyone... this is my first post and it's about an issue that's causing me a few problems.

I'm currently designing/ building my company's web site, the test page be viewed here: www.musflashtv.com/test.htm

1) This layout contains an embeded flash movie (.swf) with a transparent background, this is the main navigation.

The flash navigation has a drop down menu that animates down and covers the html page (containing links) below.

The problem is that in most current browsers such as; Firefox 2.0.05 (links below template don't work), Netscape 8.1.3 (navigation drop down and links don't work) and Opera 9.10 (links below template don't work), any links just below the 'invisible' transparent area coverd by the navigation can't be clicked 'through the flash file'. The exception is IE 7.0, everything is fine there. (it hasn't been tested in any mac browsers though).

Because the area below the navigation on www.kitachi.info/work is one large dummy jpeg file, the link below would be a much better example to look at.

http://www.musflashtv.com/shows/ind...tlight-Sessions

The flash navigation is embedded in the html (tlp) template file using the code below and aligned using an external style (.css) sheet, this html code not only embeds the flash movie but it also tells the browser to display it's background and as transparent. The flash movie is embedded in a layer that sits above the table.

3) The flash embed code:

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="

Button To Morph To Transparent On Rollover And Stay Transparent?
hi,

trying to get a button to go from a solid 100% to 0% alpha and then stay at 0% alpha, not go back to the original upstate. as they do in http://www.requiemforadream.com/

i made a movie clip that does that then put it in the upstate of the button.

problem i can't solve yet... is,

the movie clip plays immediately rather than waiting for rollover. (it plays whether i have tell target actions or not)

if there are any fla's out there available for this I WOULD LOVE it,

thanks in advance,

jane

Transparent Background & Transparent Color In Flash Player
Hi...

I know I can make the main _root background transparent by adding awmode = transparent property to the html embedding code. But what if I want more complex effects... it´s easier if you see what I´m trying to do... visit this URL and note the flash animation -> www.chapeco-online.com.br/test . It has a transparent background and a little fade in effect done by a simple motion tweening... what if I want to motion tween from a transparent color (so the html background shows up) instead of white? Is that possible?

Thanks in advance,

Marcelo.

Having Difficulties Trying To Change White Background Of Flash Menu Into Transparent Background
How would I best go about changing a Flash menu that currently has a white background into a Flash menu with a transparent background?

I want to take that menu (with a transparent background) and place it over a side-bar image that i've got in DW.

Any help/advice'd be greatly appreciated.

Transparent Image Not Recognized As Transparent
I am loading a PNG with transparency into a UILoader. This part works correctly, transparency and all.

Now I need to find out the rectangle that is transparent. I found the getColorBoundsRect() function, and copied the UILoader.content into a bitmapData, but when I run the getColorBoundsRect it comes back with a Rectangle that has no width or height - IE, it finds no transparent pixels.

To test, I tried using getPixel32 on an area of the image I know is transparent, and it comes back to tell me that the pixel alpha is 255?

Applicable code is attached.

Attach Code

function rightImageLoaded(evt:Event):void {
var clBD:BitmapData = new BitmapData(735,600,true);
clBD.draw((evt.target as UILoader).content);
var transparentRect:Rectangle = clBD.getColorBoundsRect(0xFF000000,0x00000000,true);

trace(transparentRect);
}

Scrollable MC
If I have a movie clip that contains a list of names, and images to go along with those names, how do I make a custom scrollbar that allows you to scroll through the list (including the images)? I've used the scrollpane component in MX, but this needs to be custom, not the generic gray buttons and bar.

This is fairly urgent, as I need it done for a client tonight.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

Is This Scrollable ?
Hi everyone
I have this array menu wich is loaded from external txt.
the big problem is that I need to put a large number of items, and I have not enough space in the movie to do so.

So I think that the best way to do so is by using an scroller effect(rollover, release, doesnt matter)

I've tried a lot of methods, scrollPane, never worked out, even the mask seems to have no effect.

the menu is composed by:
_root.menu.menuItemBase.(labelName+menuButton)
labelName - dynamic text field
menuItemBase - menuButton

I'm newbie in actionscripting. Any help is very welcome

Here's the code I use in the frame:

code: submenu = "WEBDESIGN";
i = 0;
test1 = new LoadVars();
test1.load("data/menu1.fst");
test1.onLoad = function(success) {
if (success) {
sectionNames = this.nome.split("|");
sectionImages = this.imagem.split("|");
sectionInfo = this.infos.split("|");
sectionCount = sectionNames.length;
sectionCount2 = sectionNames.length-1;
menuItemSpacing = 1;
for (i=1; i<=sectionCount; i++) {
_root.menu.menuItemBase.duplicateMovieClip("menuIt em_"+i, i);
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i].labelName = sectionNames[i-1];
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i].labelImage = sectionImages[i-1];
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i].labelInfo = sectionInfo[i-1];
_root.menu.menuItem_1.gotoAndStop("end");
loadMovie("imgs/"+sectionImages[0], _root.img);
_root.infos = sectionInfo[0];
if (i != 1) {
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i]._y =

_root.menu["menuItem_"+(i-1)]._y+_root.menu["menuItem_"+(i-1)]._height+menuItemSpacing;
}
}
}
};
_root.menu.menuItemBase._visible = false;
function checkButtons() {
for (i=1; i<=_root.sectionCount; i++) {
currentItem = "menuItem_"+i;
if (currentItem != _root.activeItem) {
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i].gotoAndStop(1);
}
}
}
next_btn.onRelease = function() {
i++;
if (i>sectionCount2) {
i = 0;
}
loadMovie("imgs/"+sectionImages[i], _root.img);
_root.infos = sectionInfo[i];
_root.menu["menuItem_"+i].gotoAndStop(1);
trace(i);
};
prev_btn.onRelease = function() {
i--;
if (i<0) {
i = sectionCount2;
}
loadMovie("imgs/"+sectionImages[i], _root.img);
_root.infos = sectionInfo[i];
trace(i);
};

By the way I'm using MX2004

Scrollable Map
Im looking to have a scrollable map much like the one in this example, however I need it to scroll vertically as well as horizontal as in the sample.

Anyone know where I could land a source file for this?
Any help would be appreciated!!!

Scrollable MC
Ok wondering if anybody can help me out on this one. I have a form I created that needs to be placed inside of a Monster template and the page it goes on does not give me enough room for the form itself, so I need to have the form be able to scroll if this is possible. The form is self contained in one MC and the width is fine for the page, but the length is not. So what I am asking is, does anybody know basically how I can make the form MC scroll. Thanks in advance

Scrollable... Everything?
--------------------------------------------------
Hi

Is it possible to have (exactly like the scrollable text you can make in flash by using dynamic text boxes and scrollbar components) scrollable everything???

How can i do this if it is possible.
i would like it to be able to scroll through text and pictures mainly pictures... also what would be good is if the scrollable content can contain animations.
--------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------
i was wondering if the way to do this is to make a separate movie and put all of the content on and then add a script... or something to make it scroll. This movie would then be loaded in another movie in a target using the load movie actionscript and it would be scrollable within the target.

Scrollable Map
Hi

Q: Can someone direct me to a fla or tutorial on how to create a scrollable map? What I mean by this, I hope to make clear, is a map that is larger than the screen but one where I can 'scroll' around to see different parts of the map....
