Flash In Kiosk Mode - Turn Off / Turn On Launch Schedule
Hi Forum

I am creating a little flash app for a kiosk. We will be using a Mac. (not sure about OS yet, but probably 10.4 or up. )

1) Is there a way to automatically launch the flash app on startup on a mac?
2) Is there a way to schedule a shut off and launch time on a mac? We'd like the machine to automatically shut down at midnight and relaunch at 7am for example. Is there an application that handles tasks like these built in the OS or is there some application out there that would handle this?

Any advice or insight appreciated.

Changing Instaint Turn To Gradual Turn
I have this code that makes object one turn and face another object. They both move. How could I change this code so instead of the object instantly facing the other object, it gradually turns to face it?

Question:

if you have played the game FINAL FANTASY (any of them) you'll have a better understanding of what i am talking about. there is a think called ACTIVE TIME BATTLE (ATB) this is timing for u and your enemy.

when it is your turn to attack, the enemy's "clock stops" so u can decide what attack you want to use. then once you have cosen it, your character will attack, and then the enemy will attack before its your next turn again. then the process is continued until 1 character faints.

my question is i need to learn how to make the enemy only attack once after my character attacks, basicaly i need to know how to make the 2 (or however many characters there may be)
(no more then 6 in 1 battle)

basically like taht. if any1 has any tips or scripting they'd likde to help me with it would be highly appreciated.

Turn Off And Turn On Again Set Interval

I have a problem with setinterval :

I have 4 frame , 1st frame :

At frame 3 I have a mc , in that mc I have a button. If I click
it mc move right. So I want when I click the button in the same time I turn off setinterval (time line stop at frame 3) , then when I click the button in the second time (mc at right) I reactivate setinterval. Here is I attach the file......

How Do I Turn A Mc's Name Into A Var?
I hope I can explain this properly...
I basically need the mc to look at its own name and then assign this to a variable..
for example:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if(_root.a1move){
difx = int(targetx)-this._x;

speedx = difx*_root.friction;
_x = Math.floor(_x+speedx);}}

the mc's name is a1. so where a1 appears i want a more generic 'this_mc' type thing, so the clip is easier to reuse..

Is there a way that Flash 4 can be used to directly control the volume aspects of a sound card rather than just the volume of a sound embedded within a flash movie ?

I am looking for some help to turn around an object, example antique vase, take pictures of it from different angles and then present it as if it is being turned. I saw a programme that did this once, but I have no idea where it was, sort of IPIX but turning the object rather than turning the camera.

Somehow I have enabled something that allows me to select and translate objectsclips while in between keyframes. Doing so sets a new keyframe in the middle of the others.

I'm working with a lot of clips and layers so this is really irritating.

Just a little direction if you please.

I am designing a flash front end that will call external applications throughout the movie. What I'd like to do is have flash pause whilst the application runs, and then when complete flash carries on playing.

It will be a utility to clean a machine of temp files, cookies etc. and then run rootkit scans.

I have created batch files and vbscript to run the applications....

...but, my reason for the war and peace literate is - who can recommend either a good book, site or at least some direction on where I should look to have this all automated within flash, have flash run the applications then pause until the application is complete and continue on.

Any tips are appreciated.

I'm trying to make a simple form, that when the user enters a number higher than 6, 30 will be added to a set variable for every additional number. ie. if someone enters 8 it will add 60 to the variable. But also if the user changes their mind and enters another number it will either add or subtract relative to the figure entered. ie. if 10 was originally entered, then replaced with 8 it will subtract 60.

If anyone has an idea what I'm rambling about and can convert the dribble above to a flash formula, It'll be much appreciated.

Turn Off Accessibility
My medling boyfriend turn accessibility on somewhere in my flash movie. Now every time I publish I get an annoying message about Flash 5 not supporting accessibility. I've tried turning it off Window-> Accessibility but I still get the message every time. I suspect accessibility has been applied to one instance somewhere in the movie. Is there any way to turn it off throughout the entire movie?

Turn Off Buttons?
so i have these buttons on my page, and they activate a detail panel that pops up in front of the buttons.

the problem is that even though you cant see the buttons through the panel, the mouseover still activates then hand cursor and does its thing.

the question is how to 'turn off' the buttons when the panel displays so they wont do the mouseover stuff.

How can I turn a button off?

Ok, let me explain.
On my stage, I have two movieclips, each containing a button. Depending on the users last action, they should only be able to press one of the buttons. How do I make it so that the user can not press the other button? I've tried to "hide" the buttons by setting the _alpha for the movieclip to 0, but they are still active.

Can anyone help?

on my current apps, when an object is over the buttons and you move the cursor over top both, the underlying button is activated and the cursor turns to a hand, which is undesirable

Turn Off All Other Buttons?
Hey guys, I'm wondering what other strategies are used out there for this issue.
I sometimes will have the need to create the buttons in my flash movie inside a movie clip with 2 states, on and off. The "on" state is where the buttons are clickable and the "off" state is where the buttons have been set to a grapic. I do this in situations where the user has made a selection and a clip pops up on top of the movie and there are buttons in the background. This provides a nice clean background so there are no "mouse-hands" popping up on the focused info while the user is moving the mouse around. Then when they click the "close" button the buttons get set back so they can be usable again.
With Flash MX is there a new way of writing a function that will target buttons to become graphics with actionscript and vice-versa? Just curious.

Turn Smoothing OFF?
I'm working on a project with tons of non-antialiased gifs and i have to manually turn smoothing off for EVERY one that's imported... Plus smoothing sucks anyways... is there a way to turn it off permanently!?

Turn Movies On And Off
I have a project that has several sections. I plan to make these seperate flash movies because I have to be able to turn them on/off (active or inactive). Which in my minds eye means that from a flow standpoint movie 1 must know that movie 3 has been activated or deactivated. How can this be done?

I have a mc with a button inside it.

I want the mc/button to appear on stage however I don't want the cursor changing to the 'hand' when the user rolls over it. How can I disable it/turn it off?

I am curious how it might be possible to switch several mc's 'off' upon a loadMovie command. The set-up is thus:

There is a 'tooltip' mc offstage that gets called via duplicateMovieclip. Several thumbnails on the stage utilize this clip to provide info about each thumbnail. When a thumbnail image is clicked on, it loads an external movie onto the stage, covering the thumbnails and their little tooltip clips. However, it is possible to see both the thumbs and their (still) active tooltips through the semi-transparent background of the loaded movie.

My goal is this: stop the tooltips/thumbnail buttons from functioning while there is a movie loaded over them. when the movie is closed and unloaded, they should return to 'on' status.

Turn 3D Wheel
I have a jpeg sequence of a 3d Steering wheel that rotates 360 degrees. When you drag over it, I need it to turn to the left when dragging left and to the right when dragging right (just like when you rotate an object in quicktime) the sequence is 50 frames long. does anyone know where I can get started with this one?

I created a mini stereo with 3 songs (song1.mp3, song2.mp3 and song3.mp3). The song1.mp3 is activated by a button I created that has this action on it:

Now what I am trying to do is when someone clicks on the song2.mp3 button, I want song1.mp3 to stop playing. So I am assuming that you would need a piece of code in the action of the song2.mp3 button that tells song1.mp3 (and song3.mp3) to stop playing...

Would you konw what that code is?

I'm trying to create a flash movie that can turn layers on and off the same way Adobe Acrobat 7 can.

I haven't seen any examples or code to do this and so I'm wondering if it can even be done.

I thought about faking it by using the timeline to simulate the effect, but there are going to be too many layers in the final product to make that solution work.

Any suggestions?
