Using The Same Clip Over Again In Different Locations



I have a multi-layer clip (guy running) that I want to use over and over again so as to appear as if a crowd is running.  It will not let me use that clip in differnt locations - they just piggyback on each other.

XML And _x _y Locations
Hi,

looking around for a tutorial or example of a flash doc that grabs _x and _y locations for clips from an xml file.

I'd like to create a map that has dots for location information that are placed on the map and the locations are updated via xml, or xml tied to a SQL DB.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Movie Locations
Ok, I need to know where the MC are located on this site, but specific ones, because I cant seem to find them.

I need to find a movie clip that shows text that almost looks like its being typed, and I also need the moive clip where I can have a movie clip follow a guide line and looks like its fading @ the end.

If you know where i can Find these, or know how to do them, Please by all means Reply!

Two Variable Two Locations, How Do I Add Them?
i have two variable in location a and location b, i want to send a to location b and add them at location b. What would the script look like so that i could sent a 2 b, both are in the same movie

it is possible to load file into level in specific location?!
i like loadMovieNum more then the loadMovie into MC so if there is any way please show me the right syntax because :
loadMovieNum("blabla.jpg",12);
_level12._x=100;

Php Code Locations
I'm really new to incorporating php with my Flash, so this may be a very simple problem. I'm making a mini blog for a Flash site and it works as long as the dynamic text box is sitting on the main timeline and this code is in the main timeline as well:

But as soon as I enclose the dynamic text box into a movie clip it doesn't work anymore. I have a feeling it has something to do with this code.

Loading Xml Into Its Locations Help.
Hi Flashkit users,

Im trying to figure out how to get my xml in its locations as maped in the jpg below. Ive read alot about xml and actionscripting but Im just not positive how to get it in its locations.
Do I load it in a text field on the layout? Were do i give the actions to do so. Maybe you all can help me out with a hint to do my further research.

Im a graphic artist and code isnt my specialty. Any help would be really apreciated.

Variable Locations
Hello,

Where is the optimal place to declare variables inside an FLA? Top, bottom? My understanding is that actions are read top to bottom, so it would make sense that variables should first be declared up top - that being said, I've come across the opposite in an actionscript book.

Any insight would be appriciated.

Scene Locations ?
a follow up from a thread down the page....

Ok, I have 11 scenes in my movie (can't get it down any more)
all in numerical order down the window.

I'm in scene 2, I click on a button to go to scene 1, I get a quick, sharp change of scene( the way I want it)

Still in scene 2, I click on a button to go to scene 5, slightly slower change of scene but still acceptable.

still in scene 2, i click on a button to go scene 11, very slow change over, about 1.5 second wait before it changes scenes, not good enough..

I now move scene 2 down the order in the table to in between scene 9 and 10.

I click on a button to go to scene 11 again and I get a very quick, as expected scene change.

I now click on to go to scene 1 to see the response, and yes you guessed it 1.5 second delay before it responds..

QUESTION??
why does the location of each scene in the table affect the way it responds to actions???

have I still got to many scenes at 11???

how do I fix it??

Real _x & _y Locations

im just wondering if theres a way to get the real x and y positions of an object in the real movie ( the root screen) that is locted in another movie

i have an object which is within 2 movie clips, first one and then another , and then my object, now i want to know what the real x and y positions of it is, not the locations realtive to the movieclip it is inside.

Object Locations
Hi all,

I am new to Flash 8 and am running into a problem that shouldn't be that hard to figure out, but is occuring anyway.

While building my presentation I am using x and y coords for objects on the stage.  When I use the same coords on a second slide with the same object, the object does not possition in the same location.  Am I miss something?

Multiple Loadmovies Locations
Hey,
I've got around hundreds of buttons laid out around the page - each one with a on rollover command to call a movie - How do I get the movie to appear over the top of the button without having to set the x and y for each seperate movie - how do I code the movie to appear in the same position as the button?

Is this simple?

Accessing Symbol Locations
I really hope the answer to this is so simple I can't believe it. Being new to Flash and yet a hard-core developer in other respoects, I already have all the code set up to do what I need based on my understanding of how this thing works - but that's where my problem is. I have creating various items in my flash movie and have created symbols out of each so I can dynamically set their locations. However, through the trace() function I have determined that I must be looking at the wrong symbol properties because _y is zero for every one of them no matter where I locate it on the screen. Anyone out there got a quick and easy answer for taking a rectangle and moving it around? That will solve all my probs! (at least until the next one) :->

Linking To Locations On Interactive Map
I am creating an interactive map of an area of London which a user can zoom in/out and around if needed
with a number of different loactions - my AS skills are pretty limited to labels and targeting MClips
I need to link from various pages in the site to specific locations on this map (not sure yet if the map is going to be embeded on each page or pop up in a new window )

any ideas or help on how to do this?

Why Do The X And Y Locations Of Objects Change?
Am I doing something wrong?
I have a few near identical flash files that I wanted to add some navigation to.

I designed the nav buttons in one of the files thinking I could just cut and paste the frames into the other files and they would land in the same spot.

they do - in terms of their X and Y locations but for some reason the X and Y locations in my flash files do not stay put. i.e the top left corner of my file should (im my mind) always be X00,Y00.

This is true when You use the info panel to tell you where your mouse pointer is - but in the properties box the X,Y location of an instance does not match up.

i.e I put an instance in the very top left hand corner of the file and it location reads as X-379,Y-291. This instance has the same X,Y location in a near identical file and yet by looking at it you can see that physically it is not in the same place.

IM SO FRUSTRATED AND A LITTLE BIT AWARE THAT THIS THREAD IS DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW. I JUST HOPE THAT SOMEONE WHO CAN EXPLAIN THINGS BETTER THAN ME HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND UNDERSTANDS.

Im going to go and cry for a bit.

Log And Display User Locations?
Hey all,
I'm wondering if there is a way to easily log user locations (if not define them manually myself) and then display them on a flat map projection? Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure how to define areas on the map and then associate the data with them. thanks!

Image X/y Locations Changing
Hi guys.

Ive run in to a little problem with flash when using images over other images. Im trying to place a cropped part of an image over a non cropped part of exactly the same image. The problem is, in flash the images appear to be correctly aligned, but when the swf is produced the itop image will be in a slightly different position.

Kind of hard to explain without visual aids so ive uploaded the file here:

(im refering to the persons outline on top of the background).

Now i was thinking of making the persons cutout a .gif with transparency, so even if the position changes, in the background it wont be noticeable.. but with a shadow behind it (which id like to keep) and with other parts of the site having the same problem (that need the colour depth of jpg) this may not be a viable option for all of them.

Im just wondering if theirs a way to overcome this problem so that the swf file exports the same as what i see in the .fla file.
Ps. Ive already tried changing the x, y co-ordinates to whole numbers.

The problem is when they slide into place they all slide to the same location since the location is defined in the doEase function. How can I specify different locations for the different loaded mc's?

Ip Address And Geographical Locations
Hi,

I'm looking for some help on how to go about getting flash to read the IP address of the computer playing the movie and finding out how to convert that into geographical data (what country)

Would anybody know of a decent tutorial or example or what classes are available in flash for doing this?

Dynamic Map For Member Locations
i am looking at creating a map for a forum i moderate. I would like to be able to pull the city/state from mysql and place a dot on a map and also pull the persons username from mysql and list usernames on a popup when a dot is scrolled over.

I plan on using php for retriving tha data what i am trying to figure out how to do is create the points on the map dynamically in the correct location. i know i could create x/y locations for certian cities but there are thousands of possibilities for cities.
does anyone have any good ideas on how i could go about creating points on a map reguardless of the city/state it is pulling from mysql?

AttachMovie & Change Locations - How?

I've been staring at this code for the past 4 hours. I don't understand....

both traces output 200. I just want to place the graphics in different locations, but at the same time still be able to do the same transformations on them (like rotating). I've tried different quotes all over the place, I tried placing them in an empty movie clip. All to no use. Does somebody know what's going on?

Tweens To Multiple Locations
i was on this page: http://www.alumiiinium.com/about.html and was wondering how it is possible to make a tween between each of the objects. specifically, you click a button and it slides from object 1 to object 3, but if you go back to object 1 then to click on object 9, it slides aswell like there is a tween. a way i can think of making this possible is by making a tween animation with every combination of clickable items, like a tween from picture 1 to 2, 1 to 3, 1 to 4... 2 to 1, 2 to 3... and so on, with 10^2 combinations.

another way would be to do it with code. example: on (press) {filmstrip._x=950}, but this way it would just pop to its spot without a sliding animation.

what is the most efficient way to go about making and coding something similar like on this page?

Configuration Directory Locations
I'm installing FMS2 on a linux server. I'd like to move the following two directories locations

$INSTALL_DIR/conf
/etc/macromedia/fms/services

as we tend to keep configuration information in a separate directory structure and under revision control. It looks like I can move the /etc dir and hand edit the startup script to pull from the alternate location. However I've not found any documentation that covers how to move the entire conf dir out of the install directory. Is it possible to move it?

Help How To Put MC's Randomly In One Of Four Fixed Locations?
I am making a small game, and I have four movieclips and four fixed locations (fixed xy locations like x=86 and y=181).
After every round of the game I want the movieclips to be randomly in one of the four locations.

However my Actionscripting skills don't have a clue how I could do this efficiently.. Hopefully anyone who's willing to help me out? Much appreciated!

Slider With Fixed Locations
Hello all

I was trying to look for a tutorial for a slider which will lock on fixed positions. (does that make any sense? it's really hard for me to explain what I mean. If I need to explain further please tell me so.)
English is not my native language and I somehow could not come up with a search term which produces a result
I tried to search in german too, but no luck there as well.

Method For Array Locations
i am trying to write a method that will evaulate a quandrant so that i can change its position with a button event. the problem is that i can only figure out how to make two locations change, simply by setting one to false. how would i be able to write a method that would evaluate all 4 locations? so that 1 quadrant is always true and the other 3 are false.

here is the code that can move quadrants one and two. any ideas on how i can expand?

Passing MC Locations As Variables
I have a function that sets a variable within an attached movieclip so I know what the actual name of this MC is. There is a button within the slide_number attached movie and I want to turn on and off the funtionality of the button.

PHP Code:

or

Then the function that I call each time the buttons get pressed resets the previous button and disables the current clicked button. I can pass in a slide number easliy, but I also need to pass in what category MC the links are in: web, print etc etc and that's where I'm running into problems.

Load Movies Into Locations With Buttons
Hi Guys

I have one movie with 5 buttons in it .

I have made 5 individual movies called

Movie1.swf
Movie2.swf
Movie3.swf
Movie4.swf
Movie5.swf

I have saved all these to one folder.

In the movie with the 5 buttons, I have an action
on each button.

Button 1 Load movie1.swf into loacation
Button 2 Load movie2.swf into loacation
Button 3 Load movie3.swf into loacation
Button 4 Load movie5.swf into loacation
Button 5 Load movie5.swf into loacation

The problem I am having is when you press on the
buttons it takes time before the movie loads.

Is it possible to link all these movies in one movie
rather than saving these as individual SWF'S

I will be using these for a web site on cars , e,g
each movie will be a car model and the button will be
the car name

I would be gald of any help as I need to do someting
ASAP.

Ok More Help Required With Loading SWF Into Targetted Locations
Ok here is the scenario.

I have a range of buttons on the main screen of my movie, also on the main screen is a blank MC.

How can i load external SWF files into the blank MC on the front page using the buttons?

I have used this code
on(release){
loadMovieNum("history.swf",1);
}

but it just laods the movie onto the front page.. how do i get it to load in a specific place, ie inside the dummy MC ?


Also, once i have loaded it, how do i get it to unload ? or can i just click another button and it will overwrite the currently loaded SWF with another? or will they all stack ontop of each other?

please help.

I can't figure out how to get a movie clip to stop following the mouse after a button is clicked and move to a desired position within the scene.

Positioning Images At Random Locations
hi all,

i've been working for the past two days on this project and i'm completely confused what is wrong. what i want to do is to have a set of pictures (drwan from an xml file) to be posted at random loactions around the content area. i'm using attachMovie() method to attach a template form and then assign picture that is to be displayed and the text.

first problem, going through the for loop to post each picture, it waits until everything is done, then puts everything at once. I would want it to post pictures as it goes along. and if i increase the number of pictures to 30 (the maximum) it complains that the loop is somehow infinite and goes nuts flashing all the clips.

second problem, i want to have a mouse over effect that enlarges the picture by a small amount and shows text. i tried masking the text and unmasking it, but when i mask, when I assign a .text value, it wouldn't show it.

third problem, i can't for the life of me get the pictures to show up. I tried a loader component, no luck. i tried loadMovie(), no luck. i'm stuck!

Image Locations From Remote Txt File?
Hello! I've got a sticky dilemma I'm trying to sort out.

I've got a dozen movie clips on the stage, and each one of them is loading an JPEG from the server via a loadMovie action in Frame 1. What I'd like to do is create a text file that has all the names of the image locations and then use variables to assign them to the proper movie clips.

For example:

The text file would be something like:

Pic1 = http://www.url.com/image1.jpg
Pic2 = http://www.url.com/image2.jpg
Pic3 = http://www.url.com/image3.jpg
Pic4 = http://www.url.com/image4.jpg

Etc, and so on. I'd like to make it so that the Movie Clip would load the variable "Pic1" and get the image that way.

What I'm trying to do is make it so that I can swap out the images periodically without altering the original Flash file, or overwritng the original images.

Folder Locations Of External Files
Hi folks

Does anyone know if there is a way (actionscripting or whatever) to make the relative location of folders specific to the curently movie clip loaded and not the original (parent)

i.e I want to use a projector file "load.exe"which will load "shape.swf" which in turn uses loadmovieclip to load JPGs (numbered 1-30 from a subfolder called EMB).
I want to duplicate the FLA/SWF, directories and images and utilise the same code, so that it only ever looks in the subdirectory of its location, not the parent "load.exe".
I then just change the images in each subfolder so they will change depending where the "shape.swf" was loaded from. this will allow me to have how ever many subdirectories but still always using the 1 FLA and its code. So far the only way I can achieve this is to load the movie's HTMLfile via HTML, but really want to use the "load.exe" without having to make a new FLA for each subdirectory.

Hope that makes sense...i do waffle on sometimes..

Problems With Loading Jpgs From Different Locations

I made a Gallery and get my pictures dynamically loaded and as I ran out of webspace I want to load some pics from another location, everything was working fine from one location only. And now the following Problem occurs: I have a Thumbnail Preview and the pictures got all loaded, from the local host as well as from the other host. I am using onRelease with the thumbnails to load the normal pic and it is working with the thumbs from my local host, but it is not working with the thumbs of the other location.

The code for the thumbnail is:

So I get the output release put I do not get the output reset, so it never gets there. The thing I don't get is why it is working with the local Url and not with the foreign Url as it is the same process.
I traced the Url and its correct and as the thumbs get loaded it has to be.

I dont know what to do please help.

Move Movieclip To Random Locations
hey guys,

i'm trying to make a movie clip travel between different points in random order. if it's at "A" it can go to "B" or "C". if it's at "B", it can go to "A" or "C" etc... Locations are in an array.

i can't figure out to let the movie know when to go to the next array!

Displaying Locations On A Worldmap Through Actionscript
Hi Guys,

Im wondering if someone can help me out with this.

I have a world map with two textboxes. The textboxes are used to pass x and y coordinates to the map. (eg x1-y1, x2-y3) and so on. Something like lattitude and logitudinal coordinates. Now when I pass these values the position should be displayed in the map. An icon can appear in the spot that I have specified in the coordinate fields. Also if this is possible can I have more than one image displayed. i.e. type in the coordinates for several locations. What would i require to do this.

Also when a user clicks on a particular image, its coordinates should appear in a popup screen (within flash) or maybe better if the coodinates just appear as a mouseover.

Any ideas on how to do this would be excellent and if someone can guide me how to go about achieving this would be great too.

Loading SWFs With Random Y-locations ?
How would I write the following in ActionScript...

- I have 2 external SWFs I want to load. Their height will change over time as I add more content to each SWF.

- I want to load one SWF, then directly below it, load the other SWF.

- The X-location and width of the SWFs should never change.

How would I code something that loads an external SWF, checks the Y-height of it, then loads another SWF below it?

Changing Object Locations Of A Movieclip
Hi!,

Okay i am running into a problem and I need to know if this is possible, I need to move a movie from let's say '_root' and put it into '_root.source.pages.ph' on level 0 in the current state that it is in....is there anyway you can do this using actionScript?

duplicateMovie starts the movie over at frame one and doesn't delete the old movie and swapDepths require the movie to have the same parent...i don't know what to...??

AS3 Function Call From Multiple Locations.
I am new to AS3 and have noticed that calling a function from a mouse event requires just that event as a parameter in the function declaration

Snapping Movie Clips To Specific Locations
I'm having trouble with setting up movie clips to "snap" to a specific location on the stage. I'm using an onClipEvent along with a hit test to recognize a collision of two movie clips, with the result of one snapping to the exact spot of the other. I've got it to snap in place, but then I want to be able to click and drag the movie clip away from the spot and sometimes it get's "stuck" to the mouse cursor and is not usable. Any ideas?

Can someone clue me in as to how to get FlashMX to remember that I want my library palette docked along the right side of the screen EVERYTIME I open the program!!!

I thought that when you quit the program it was supposed to remember your palette locations. It doesn't.

Shuffle - Array And Random Card Locations?
I need to make a new shuffle for these cards it has to be a random six positions each time. But the cards must swap spots with where they other card was. The same as shuffling 5 cards then laying them down on the table , shuffling them again and laying them on the table again.
I have only got it to goto a manualy coded position sight the fla to see what happens. I really need it to select another lot of random numbers for the five in the array and in a random order.

Quick question ... When you copy and paste an image, symbol, etc is it possible to copy its x and y location values rather than having to type them in again each time ?

Attaching Movie Clips To Random Locations?
Hi, when attaching a movie clip to the stage, how do I attach it to a random location? By default, all the attached movie clips are ending up at x=0, y=0....
