Using Transparent Buttons On Top Of Images.
hey all. heres a problem that maybe somebody can help me out with :
on my main stage, i have two layers: one layer is a an imported quicktime file, and another layer is a still image. the image in on top of the movie. what i want to do is this:
when the file starts, i want the image to be completely transparent (thus, you can see the movie playing underneath it). then, when you mouseover the image, i want that small section of the image to appear. thus, as your mouse moves around the image, it appears in those areas where your moust moves across it. im sure this has something to do with creating a bunch of transparent square buttons and overlaying them on top of the image, as well as using masks in a creative way. however, i cannot think of the exact actionscript to implement this idea. can anybody please help me out? thanks so much.
peace john

Images In Layers Being Hidden By Transparent Parts Of Other Images?
I am having a weird issue with Flash MX. I am working on a design, and I have images that are being hidden by the transparent section of other images. Basically I have 10 layers. Each layer has a piece if an image. They all kinda fit together to make one big image. But the problem is that even though none of the pieces overlap some layers seem to be hiding others. All the images are transparent png images. I have tried this with gif images as well and the problems still are there. Am I missing something totally easy here? Or is this some bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill
Transparent Images
I am making a car game not unlike GTA 1 or 2. I have a couple of problems as I am a relative newbie to actionscripting and flash MX, though not to the web.
I have a problem using alpha and transparent images with my version of Flash MX. When I set a black box drawn in flash and set as a movie clip alpha to 0 you still see a very faint light grey area where it should be.
And when I import gifs with a transparent background you see a light grey area where it should be the dark grey background of my movie.
Any ideas ? Here is a man with a afro to help you think:

Transparent Images = Help
hey flash junkies,

i need to bring in some transparent images to my movie = basically logos and images that are not square and need a transparent background. i have tried importing images from photoshop with paths that are saved with a transparent bottom layer and i have tried different formats = jpg, gif etc.
nothing seems to work for me.
does anyone know how to do this?
thanks

Transparent Png Images...
Hey there,
I am bussy setting up a scene in flashMX 2004 pro, i use 23 layers which each contain an image (png, 16bit, transparent, exported from ps), this image is then converted to a graphic and a mc so i have a graphic in a mc.
But after 12 layers i get stuff that gets blanked out.
Maybe it's because FLash can only work with a limited number of transparent images that overlap each other ?
Here are some screens :
http://www.revonx.com/_work/bug_001.jpg
http://www.revonx.com/_work/bug_002.jpg
The weird thing is, when i stand on layer 12 he shows all my images with there transparancy, but if i select the top most layer it's blanked out again.
Some information on the scene :
Every object in the scene is a transparent image exept for the background which are only the walls sealing and floor.
All the objects are separate and on there own layer converted to a Graphic and Movieclip for further animation.
The reason why i did this is inrelevant.
Does anyone know how this is posible, and does anyone know what to do, i really need some help on this, it's not in my manual, not in my reference books and i cant find anything on the web, and this has to be done by next week for a client
Excuse me for the images to be so large, but i want to make it clear.
Thanks a Milion,
Cheers,

Transparent Dynamic Images
Hey Everybody,
I have done a (quick) search on the boards but did not really find what I was looking for.
Is there any way to dynamically load an image with an alpha channel?
I have tried PNG, but that doesn't seem to work....
Thanks a lot for the help!

Images With Transparent Edges
Hi all,
I've been working with bitmap images with transparencys by saving them with alpha channels and then saving them as .pct files.... these files tend to be rather large and I'm worried about download times. Is there another way to import images into flash with the same transparency effect while keeping the images opimized and file sizes low?
(using flash 5)
Thanks

Importing Transparent Images
Hi,
My question is, is there a way to import a transparent image, .gif or .png into a flash movie using action script.
I've tried loadMovieClip. It only loads .jpg files which doesn't support transparent image.
Thanks.
Transparent Images Importing?
What I want to do is be able to make a transparent images in photoshop 7 and sucessfully import it into Flash MX 2004. I have no trouble making transparent images in photoshop. I have saved them as .gif files and verified that it is in fact transparent. Yet when I import it into flash it looks like crap.
After looking at my image closer within flash, I noticed that it did indeed remove all whitespace from around my image, but the very border of my image (where it fades from the border color to trasnparent) is not in fact transparent.
I did notice that if I save the file as a transparent .png file in photoshop and import it into flash it works perfectly.... yet the file size of a png fiel so so much larger than a gif file.
Anyone know how to make this work with gif files? or is there are better way?
Thanx so much!

Problem With Transparent Images
Hi all,
Trying to import images into Flash that I have created on Photoshop.
The problem is, when I import to the workspace on Flash the background of the image appears as white instead of transparent.
I have tried a number of things to combat this problem so think it may have to do with an option in Flash.
I have tried using a transparent background in Photoshop, and tried saving it as a BMP and JPEG but everytime it comes up as white in Flash.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

How To Use Merged/transparent Images?
Hi all...hope someone can help. I have used Flash in the past, but very rarely do I ever use it and I forget half the things that I learned previously LOL Im still using Flash 5 so that should tell you how often I use it LOL
Anyway, if someone could help me out, or point me to a tutorial or a place where I could figure out how to do this, I would appreciate it. I have 2 images that I have merged together as one overlaps the other, but the edges were blurred together, so it looks like one, even though they are 2 different images. So, I want half of the image to do one thing in flash and half to do the other. I can figure out how to make the motion tweens and such, but I cant figure out how to keep the image looking the same in Flash. If I copy it as one whole image, I cant figure out how to break it apart to make half do one thing and half do the other...but if I copy it into Flash as 2 seperate images, I lose my blurred edges that make the 2 images seamless.
Can anyone tell me how I can keep the same seamless look and feel in Flash that I made in Corel? I need the left side of the image to move to the left, then the right side to fade in. Thanks for any help!
Transparent Images And Drawing
Okay, I got some quick questions. I am working on a basic flash application which displays a map of the world to the user.
The user can zoom in and out of this map, and can also drag with the mouse to move the map whichever way they want. All this has already been accomplished.
The next thing I am working on implementing is the ability to click on certain countries. When the user clicks on a specific country on the map, information about that country should show up to the side of the map in the flash presentation.
The thing I am having problems with is doing the detection about which country they have clicked on. These are my options:
I already have seperate images of each of the user-clickable countries. One idea is to take each image of each seperate country, and kind of lay it on top of that same country on the world map...and then attach it to the map itself. That way, it would detect if that specific image was clicked, and would then bring up the information about that country.
There are a couple problems with this idea. All the images, are rectangular, even though the countries in the image are not. Therefore, the overlayed-clickable image of the country would extend a little bit farther outside the borders of the country on the world map, causing excess parts of the map to be "clickable." This would most definitely cause a problem with two countries adjacent to each other that are "clickable."
The next problem is that I don't know how to make certain parts of the image transparent. If I did it in this manner, I would need the country in the overlaying-image to be visible, while the whitespace in the overlaying image needs to be transparent, so that the world map can be seen behind it. How can I make those parts of the image transparent in Flash?
My other idea:
I am not completely familiar with Flash's ability to draw and use polygons, but I know it can. I figure I can draw polygons outlining the borders of each country. Then I can make each polygon "clickable", and when that polygon is clicked, the information about the country that it outlines would be displayed to the right.
The polygons would need to be seperate objects from the world map, but would need to be able to attach themselves to the map, because the map will be moving when it is zoomed in, out, dragged, etc.
This method seems a little bit easier and less of a hassle. But here is where my first problem occurrs:
Whenever I try and draw on top of the image of the map (I am editing the worldmap symbol), the lines I draw will appear momentarily until I release the mouse button. When I release the mouse button, the lines I draw will disappear. I have tried moving the world map image "to the back", assuming that the lines I draw will then be moved "to the front" of the symbol, so that they can be visible, but it doesnt seem to be working. I don't know why it is happening.
I assume that each polygon I draw with lines needs to become a symbol itself. Once making it a symbol, how would I go about attaching it to the map?
[F8] Transparent Gradient For Images?
Hi,
Basically I have a set of grouped images in a row, and want to fade them into black at the bottom. I have tried using the gradient tool and setting the top to Alpha 0% but can't seem to do it. I have also tried using mask layers but no luck there either.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Import Transparent Images
Hello, my first sitepoint forum post

Thanks for your time
Saving Transparent Images
What's the best way to save an image that has transparency while keeping a small file size?
is .png the only way?
Why Are My Transparent .gif Images Importing As Nontransparent?
Am I overlooking something really easy?
I'm saving images as .gif transparent from Photoshop 6.0 using Save as Web image.....
When I reopen the images in Photoshop they are transparent as I wish. However, when I important them into Flash they have a very faint background showing the rectangle shape of the image.
If I put it on a movie background of a different color, the background color of the image shows up but is not white as it would be if it was not transparent.
Is my problem in Flash or Photoshop? Do I need to change any of the attributes in either program.
This seems really easy to fix. Any ideas.
Thanks,
Lisa
Importing Images With Transparent Backgrounds
I am trying to import an image into Flash MX on the mac with a transparent background so that I can built up the background behind it in Flash. Have made psd file and imported this into adobe illustrator, but even though it appears in illustrator with a mask when export to swf file and import to flash mx it either appears on a white background or the mask disappears and it appears on its original background. Hope this makes sense. Any ideas how to make it work?
Transparent Background To Bitmapped Images
Hi people!
A graphics question here on importing bitmaps into flash from Photoshop.
How can I get a transparent background on my images?
For example: Lets say that I have a product shot of a chair. How can I have just chair in Flash and not the annoying white background that joins it. I know that the white is part of the bitmap image, but in Director there used to be (and may still be) a way of deleting the neutral background colour with the click of a button.
There must be a way of sorting this out somehow, other wise any bitmapped images would have annoying white edges!
Eg What happens with a nice rounded "aqua" button if we can't keep the transparant nature of it? Do you understand what I mean?
Hope someone can help

Flash Publishing Transparent Images
Ok so my probelem is .. i import image in my flash as png image transparent backround.... Normally it's cause the images are some odd shape, so i use a transparent background. The thing is that when i publish the the movie for me personally it looks fine, but a firend of mine was from work, and basically she could see the outline of the images.... it was in a lighter shade. What i'm talking about is this
http://www.y-lime.com/index.swf
I looks fine for me the images i have there .. i can't see any squares.... but my firend on the other hand see it like this
http://www.y-lime.com/index.png
... as u can see in the iamge ... the squares of the images all show.... on the other hand this is how i see it even when i zoom in
http://www.y-lime.com/Untitled-1.jpg
So can someone help me.. is this something messed up with flash, which i can change so that every user sees it exactly in the same way?.. or with the graphics card being used by the user and i basically can do nothing about it??
Thanks a million
Dynamicly Loading Transparent Images
Since you can only load in JPG's and SWF's Does anyone know a technique to load in transparent images and keep the transparency?
I was thinking that you could write something server side that would convert a Transparent PNG or GIF into a SWF that somehow keeps the transparency. Then load that Swf into your main movie.
Anyone know if this is possible or has done it before?

Problem With Mouseover On Transparent Images...
Hi! I'm creating a mouseover images in Flash MX. I first created the images in photoshop and export them as gif and png. I then import it into flash mx and converted them into button symbols. Customized them there. Now it's working but I have a problem. The mouseover get activated when I move the mouse over the transparent area before the image. I don't want the mouseover to get activated over the transparent image, I only want it to get activated over the image instead.
I'm creating a 50 states of the USA. Let's say I created a Maine image and convert it into a button. Then the mouseover can highlighted Maine while the mouse cursor is over the invisible area that are outside of the Maine stateline. I don't want that, I only want the mouse cursor to highlight Maine only within the state line of Maine. How can I do that?
Thanks,

Can Transparent Flash Tweak Webpage Images?
Okay, here's a question: Can a wmode-transparent SWF have any effect on the graphics of the webpage that it appears on?
Specifically, I'd like to create two effects - a draggable lens and a "heatwave/water ripple" effect, both of which affect html-based text and graphics which are on the webpage.
While it's fairly easy to do this by taking a screenshot of the page and importing it, I was wondering if there's a more dynamic solution, such as by somehow grabbing a bitmap image of what's beneath the SWF... is this even possible?

Transparent Buttons?
I'm sure this is easy but I can't find an example.
Simply stated - during the course of my movie I want to keep the same buttons displayed at all times but change the background colours of the buttons to match the contents of the current scene.
It would seem to me that the easiest way of doing this would be to have the text of the buttons (and maybe an outline) in white on a transparent background overlaying a bar of colour. I tried using a GIF image with transparency turned on but it didn't seem to work.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Why Does A Light Almost Transparent Box Appear Around My Buttons?
When I create a rollover button, they have a light, ALMOST transparent box around them after I view a publish FLA file. I knew this was happening, so I saved it before it happened, and it only happens when I mess with the setting of the object, or after I tried to make a HTML text box.
Why does this happen? What am I doing wrong? And how do I remove it?! Thank you!

Do I use ("alpha")???

Rollout And Transparent Buttons
Let's say I want an area which, should you move your mouse out of it, something will happen (gasp!). Inside that area are several buttons and other interactive objects: basically when you move the mouse out of the area, I want them to all reset.
Seems like the "on rollout" event would be the sensible one to use. Alas, a problem. I can make a movieclip (to which I give this on-rollout-reset-things) command, and size it so it covers the area: it's (visually) transparent, so youc an still see the buttons beneath. Alas, if you move it to the layer above the buttons, they're obscured: you can't click on them at all. If you move it to the layer bellow the buttons, the "rollout" event happens every time you move your mouse out of open space and over a button: your'e rolling out of the background, and rolling over the button. Flash doesn't seem to appreciate that you are, in fact, over *both*.
I tried a workaround where I made the border of the area a sort of picture frame, so if you moved the mouse out of the area, you couldn't help but stumble over it. Alas, if you move too quickly, it doesn't pick up that the mouse was ever above the frame, so the rollout event doesn't occur.
Right. So. Any ideas on how to make a "rollout zone" that is transparent, both in appearance and in functionality?
Exporting Transparent Buttons
Hello,
I am making buttons in the forms of movie clips in flash. I was wondering if it is possible to export my movie clips with transparent backgrounds instead of a solid colored background. My buttons are mainly text and I want people to see the background instead of have them show up as square blocks with text inside. Like a transparent .gif image in photoshop...
Thanks.
Transparent Movie, But Not Buttons
I have a flash menu layered over HTML. When the menu items expand out over the HTML, the buttons are transparent and illegible due to the HTML text showing from underneath. You can see it at http://www.carlsbadassembly.com/staff/srpastor.htm.
I have set the page to use windowless transparency, but how do I make it so that only the white background is transparent and NOT the buttons on the menu?
Any ideas?
