Viewing HTML Within Flash?
I know this can be done, but I can't remember how I used to load up HTML pages within flash. What I'm doing is making a flash site for a frat at my University. Initially we were going to use frames (one on top and one on bottom) but page loading would become tiresome. There are some pages of there old site and links that are just not able to be converted to flash. For those pages I wanted to be displayed in a portion of the current flash movie.

I can't remember if it was a component or like a dynamic text file being used to display the information.

Regardless, what would be a good way of allowing me to view HTML within Flash?

Viewing HTML Page In Flash
Hello all:

I am trying to find an easy way around tying Flash and Macromedia Contribute together, but in the mean time does anyone know how to view an HTML page in a flash movie? I would need that page to be edited by the customer through Contribute, but still display in the flash movie. Ideas? I can display everything from a quicktime file to an swf, but I cannot get an HTML page to display in a nice flash window.

Redirect When Viewing Swf Without Html...
Hi there...

Is it possible to prevent using only the .swf instead of the html with the .swf?

So if people load the swf in their browser without the html, it should redirect to a specific url.

Issues Viewing Swf In Html.
Hi all,

My problem is as follows: I have developed a flash website and published it into a html file using standard MX2004 publish settings. Everything works as usual no problems on my pc. When the site is uploaded to my server, a standard html file will work ok, but any html with flash embedded will not display. I have published the file as flash player 6.0.0 and above compatible, I have flash player 8.0.22 installed. I have tested this using IE,

The flash movie loads several external swf files (one of them being a preloader used a few times and as such set to export for runtime sharing) and I have checked all the referencing for each, including using the full domain path name http://... yet it is still unviewable. Where all other browsers fail, using Firefox I can view the initial swf file however it then fails to load any other swf files when the appropriate link is selected.

Is this possibly a problem with the html embed tags or am a failing to see an easier explanation elsewhere. As usual the hosting server's tech assures me its my problem not theirs. If the source files can help I will post them on request.

Can We Log Time Spent Viewing An Swf On An HTML Page?
My goal is to create flash mini-movies and display them on my website. I would like to be able to track at which frame or for how many minutes the user watched the movie before he turned it off. I would then like to log that info to a database using php or asp.

Is there a way to get Actionscript to react to the browser window closing, the browser changing navigation, or the flash swf being closed. I tried "_root.onUnload = function()" for a shot in the dark and that doesn't seem to work.

If not in Actionscript then is there a javascript alternative that doesn't interfere with the IE pop-up blocker?

I don't mind doing what I have to do to accomplish this, however I would prefer the page doesn't appear to be malicious or spyware/pop-up ridden.

Tabs That Remember What HTML Page You Are Viewing?
I am creating a 7 tab system for a website. The tabs have the usual over and down states and animation but they also have a "current" state in which when you are on the curent page the tab turns black to show you are on it.

Now Say there are 7 pages in the site and no frames. So the flash .swf is reloaded each time you enter a different page.

Is there a way to compare the .html name or maybe give the html page an id and compare that to say a variable in flash and change the tab to black automatically based on what page you are currently on?

I'd just like some pointers in the right direction or perhaps any sites that discuss flash talking with html, I havent seemed to find anything related to this topic.

Published Swf And Html File Viewing Issues.
Greetings,

I design web banners and used to, with Flash 8, sedn my clients the published *.html and *.swf files to download onto their desktops so they could view the banner. With Flash CS3 this doesn't seem to be working the same way. It keeps giving them the window that says something about "ac_runactivescript.js". How come this never did this with Flash 8?

Newbie Html Question/ Site Viewing Prob

Im quite new to flash and brand new to these forums

This site I am working on is not loading on ie 6? on a PC but is fine on ie 5.5 with osx.
Is it a good idea to insert the w3c transitional declaration at the top of the html that flash generates. i also have javascript that I have added to the html doc. And I have added meta tags. Will any of these things stop it from working cross platform?

Website Works When "Test Movie", But Not When Clicking SWF Or Viewing In HTML
Hello,

I have a strange problem with my website: When I hit Test Movie or Test Project inside Flash 8, the site runs perfectly and loads variables from a php file on a remote website. When I then double click on the SWF on my harddrive, all the dynamic text fields i am loading to show up as "undefined". Same thing happens when I put the site on my website, and view it embedded in HTML.

I have absolute URLs to the php location:

myThing.load("http://my.site.com/get.php?blah=3");

Any ideas why it works perfectly when i test it in flash, yet doesn't work any other way?

Anyone Viewing This Swf Can Change It For Everyone Viewing
Greetings,

I dont post much because usually I can just search for my question and I'll get an answer within minutes. However I was not even real sure how to ask this question in the form of a search so I guess it would be best to describe how it would work.

Is the following possible with flash?

4 people are viewing the same web page with the same swf file. The movie contains 4 blocks that each time you click on it, it changes to a different color.

One person clicks on one block and it turns blue, then immediately the other three people viewing the same web page see one block turn blue because of an action someone else across the world did.

Is this possible?

I have a proficiency level with sharedObjects but I think thats strictly a local technology that works sort of like registry keys. I suppose what I'm looking for is a way for every user in the world who sees this web page to share a variable list. How do I do that?

Viewing Flash In The Web
Hi, am a beginner in flash. I published my flash work as an html file and I put it on the web and it works perfectly on my computer, but when I went to a different computer the flash did not work, I think the problem is that am using Flash 6 and the other computer was looking for Flash 5, I don't think it could play Flash 6. I tried playing with the publishing settings and that didn't work. So can you guys help me on how to make this work on any kind of computer. Thank for your help.

Viewing Flash In A PDF
Hi There.

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me on this one, but chances are they cant.

I have a swf file that is created and changes depending on a bunch of dynamic variables from a database. It generates a map which looks different depending on these variables. I am generating a pdf which goes along with the map, so that people can save their map to their harddrive. Is there anyway that I can, on the fly, export the swf file as another file format for inclusion in the pdf, or any other way of getting this information into the pdf?

Viewing ASP In Flash
This is really ****ing me off. I cant view my ASP in Flash.

I have used

and nothing happens!! The syntax is all correct and the dynamic text Var is set to: _root.records .

Also I have made another asp page which shows all records from the database with a repeat region setting but it still doesnt show.

When I view the ASP page the source is

so everythings right there. Somethings wrong in Flash. IT JUST ISNT DISPLAYING IN THE DYNAMIC TEXT AREA!

Viewing Area In Flash
Okay this is my problem, I am doing something in flash similar to what 2A has done on the http://www.immigrantindustries.com/immigrantrecords/
site. I have made a movie clip that is really really wide, and when a different link is pressed i wwant different part sof the movie clip to scroll left and right displaying the correct information. Now the problem is i casnt get the "editing" area wide enough for me to makke the movie clip as wide as i want ( i hope that made sense) basically how am I able to get the "editing" area wide enough so that i can have a movie clip that is atleast 4500 px wide (6 differnt scenes at 750 px each) I am able to fit 3 of the scenes, but i cant get the left and right scroll to scroll over enough to fit the otheer 3....help....and if there is a better way to do this than please let mee know....Thanks

Viewing Flash At Employer
There are problems with some employees viewing flash objects in a web site that was created in our company. The problems are mainly with people who have Windows XP computers. Anyone with Windows 98 do not have this problem. I asked the network Administrator if he's blocked out any streaming videos, etc., (they have recently blocked us from downloading fonts, programs from the internet and personalizing our computers) but he says that he hasn't. The first page of the website is the only one that shows but the other pages that also contain flash objects at the top of each page do not show up (just a white box). Can anyone help? The administrator, signed on as an administrator, has no problems, however, he signs on as a user and the problem appears. He has someone checking in to this. I currently have not been switched over to XP as of yet but by the end of the month I will have it. I just don't see any reason to update skills if they're taken away by network administrators unless there's a way around it. Thanks in advance for any information you may have.

Viewing Flash On Wintels
Hi,

I've just built this site with an interactive demo done in Flash that is about 568k in size. It works fine on any Mac (OS9x/OSX) but on all Wintel-based machines that I've tried the file stops downloading in the middle and just hangs there indefinitely.

Flash Viewing Problems
When viewing a page with flash elements (in Explorer), sometimes when scrolling down the page, the flash animation follows the scroll.

For example:
If there is an animation at the top of the page and I scroll down before the animation has completely loaded, the animation actually appears whrever it is I scroll to. I was told it is a memory problem but I've seen it happen on many different machines.

Any thoughts from anyone???? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Viewing Flash In Netscape
I've made a flash site using Flash MX and publish it using Dreamweaver MX 2004. It has no problem browsing it in IE but I could not view it in Netscape (I'm using the latest version 7.1), appear only a white blank box (kind the size of my .swf file)...

Viewing Flash In Powerpoint
I'm having a nightmare! I've built a Powerpoint presentation and embedded Flash charts in it. I can view it and so can a view others but not all people can see the flash. Apparently all you need is flash player to view the flash but that doesn't seem to be true. Is there a way of bundling the flash player with the powerpoint so it will automatically run on any system???

[MX]Limiting Flash Viewing
Is there a way to somehow send code into Flash, that will detect whether you have viewed the Flash already.

What I need, is to make it so you can only view it once. For example:
It will send you to Frame 2 instead of Frame 1 because you have already viewed it once.

I think I'd need a webspace wouldn't I? Can this still be done with a Free Webspace? (Freewebs.com) Or will I need more control over the website?

Viewing PDF Inside Flash
i wanna display a pdf document in my movie. so i think i need a pdf viewer that will load pdf's at runtime and render it or a converting tool that will let me convert pdf to swf offline;
i saw AlivePDF but it seems it is for generating PDF at client side. i couldn't find methods to view PDF in it. is it possible with AlivePDF?

i also tried pdf2swf in the SWFTools but it gives me an AVM1Movie which doesn't give me much interactivity. anyone know of an AS3 version of this?

EDIT: I tried FlashPaper just now. it is also AVM1Movie, but it gives me a little more interactivity; only scrolling pages using scrollbar is possible. other functionalities like prev page, next page, search, hand cursor etc are not available, though corresponding buttons/components are shown there (and was working fine when i opened them in standalone player). so i think it is AVM1Movie issue; is there an AVM2 version available?

Viewing PDFs In Flash
We want to view some PDFs in a Flash-based training piece we are creating. I looked at FlashPaper and another tool called PDF2SWF. The two issues I see are that some fonts don't look quite right in the SWF (heavy fonts get a little muddy), and I would like my developer to create a viewer that works more like a book, so pages scrolling vertically won't work.

Are there other options? Has someone done something like this? I have Flash CS3, but my developer has Flash 8, so we are probably limited to that, unless new capabilities in CS3 make it worthwhile for my developer to upgrade.

Website Viewing In Flash?
I have a question that may have been answered before, and if so I am sorry. But here it is, I wanted to know if and how to view a full webpage (Like yahoo, MSN, or any other) in flash. But I wanted to know if you could make it show in a certain size and place, like when a frame is entered, yahoo's main webpage will be shown at the bottom left of the screen and only be about 1/4 of the screen (which is only the bottom left). Get it? And if this is possible, is it possible to get text from a site only andplace it in a text field?
I love learning new things, so if anyone could help me on this, I would be thankfull.

Problems Viewing Flash
Hey there

I have a customer who is now saying that when some people go to the flash site I made for him, they cannot access the site. Even though the flash site can be viewed from his computer and mine and others. But some people are saying that they can't access the site. One person said that they saw an x in place of where the swf should be. What should I do and what does this mean? I am new to this----everytime I put something (flash) on any other site this never happened. They need to download flash player? I should put the link on the intro page to the site? Or is this something I can settle in flash myself?

Problems Viewing Flash MX Video
I launched a flash mx video on our company intranet and received some emails from users saying that the video would hang after 30 seconds.

I'm trying to gauge right now just what percentage of users are experiencing problems. Hopefully, it's just a few.

If it's just a small group, I'm wondering if the users having the problem have an early Flash 6 player and need to update to at least revision 40.

My question is, how can I find out what revision they currently have? If they right click on the flash movie, all it's going to say is that they have Flash 6, right? Is there a date and time for the flash.ocx file that can tell me what revision they are running?

Also, if you have any other ideas as to what could be causing the video to hang on some PCs, please let me know.

Sizing Flash For Internet Viewing
I am trying to figure out what dimensions will make my Flash movie the best size for viewing on most computers-- or what are average dimensions for creating a website in Flash? Right now my default is set at 550 x 400 pixels and I don't know if this is correct for optimum web viewing!

Pwerpoint With Video To Flash For Viewing On Web
I have several Powerpoint presentations with video clips that I would like to be made available online. I gave the files to our IT department and we have some software to convert Powerpoint to Flash. It converts except the video.

Problems Viewing Flash On Website
Hi,

I'm recently new to flash but was trying to create a small flash animation to go on a website. I've managed to get the animation working ok however when I embed the swf file on the website, a message comes up saying that it has blocked all activeX content and will then only run when I click to allow blocked content. I've changed my IE settings to a custom setting to allow all activeX content, however I still keep on getting the same message every time I try to view the website.

Has anybody got any ideas? I would REALLY appreciate the help.

Restrict Viewing / Access Of Flash
I would like to restrict access / opening of the flash file to only the domain I am hosting the flash file from. ie : if I host the swf file movie.swf in the domain www.domain.com, viewing can only be done via http://www.domain.com/movie.swf.
Is this possible?
As I know once users view this link, a copy of the swf file will be downloaded to their temporary internet files and users may gain access to my swf file. I do not wish to distribute my files in such a way unless they purchase from me. Is there any way to do it like actionscript or something?

Browser Issues Viewing Flash
Hi everyone, brand new here and this is my first thread.

Im having problems viewing some flash sites. In particular "livebooks" sites. I have emailed them and no answer. www.livebooks.com. None of them work on my machine.
They have a flash detection script (I think) which tells me I dont have the lastest version of flash player. I do! or I dont have a javascript enabled browser. I have that too (i think) and java scripting is enabled.

I did have Java (sun microsystems) installed as well and thought this may have been creating a conflict. I used it for runing Java Appl platforms for trading. I uninstalled it and still a problem.

Browser is IE 6.

Also have Norton Anti Virus installed although I'm reluctant to uninstall this as it keeps me safe, and surely it shouldn't stop me from viewing basic web technology like javascripting.

I'm at a loss, does anyone out there have any ideas?
