Closing Tabs And Moving Interface Interface
before i start HERE is the design i am working with,

What i want to do is when you click on a menu item i want to close the tabs that are allready open and move the interface across the screen to a different position and than open certain tabs (sections) at the new position.

What i want to know is is there a way of finding out which tabs are open and need to be closed and closing them and which are allready closed and bypassing them and than moving the interface to a different position.

If there is a way of doing this could anyone point me in the right direction of where to go to learn how?

I hope i am making some sense i am prettty new to flash and this is one of my first big adventures with flash.

Some Advice (actually A Lot Of Advice) On Navigating My Web Site
My web Site consists of 1 large flash movie that is being used as a template for the site as a whole. Different 'pages' in the site will consist of the same movie...different colour and content.
ie
Page1 = template/ red/ content A
Page2 = template/ blue/ content B etc etc

My problem is with navigation ( and not knowing enougth about flash )

Choice 1. use traditional hltm with frames. navigation buttons on the left frame call up the a url to load the new flash template.

Problem. Can the call command to load, the url, also navigate to a certain frame within the template?

Choice 2 Make the different pages into different scenes within the same movie.

2A Can the navigation buttons be in a different frame ( web page frame as opposed to a flash frame) and if they can how do I navigate
,or can I navigate as below

Button 1 = load url= www.blah/blah/blah gotoandplay= frame 40

2B the navigation button are in the main movie ( template ) how do I tell it to go to,

button1= go to scene2 frame 30 and play

Lastly!! If I go down the scenes route does flash load the whole movie before it starts playing, this would not be acceptable due to download times, or can it be made to;

1 Load the next scene when it is requested
even better
2 Be made to load the other scenes while the user is looking at the first scene

3D Interface
I have created a 3D interface similar to the one on egomedia.com (click on the 'our process' link). It works well except that I can't work out the code to make a panel at the front hide a panel at the back with only the proportion of the panel in contact with the other being hidden. i.e instead of the front panel hiding all of the back panel, it only hides the part of the panel that it is in front of.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I want a box to pop out when I hit a button in the menu, then when another button is pressed I want that box to shrink or something, then the new one to open...
I DON'T want the old box to just disappear and the new box to just open up, think that looks cheesey,

Any help is greatly apprecated. I was hoping I could do this in actionscript with MC's and buttons but knowing as little as I do, I can't just figure it out.

i have asked this question in the action script & 3d forum, and noone can help. so i come here, to my last hope. i am trying to make a 3d interface for our site, and i am unsure on how to code a lot of things. does anyone know or have any tutorials on this? i am using a program called plasma, making a flash rendering of it, and importing it into flash. thanx for your time

3d Interface
Hey guys.

I am planning a web project that I think would be best executed as a 3d interface. Here I go again, letting my ambition FAR outstrip my potential!

That aside however I am curious as to what you think would be the best software to use to create, manage and render complex 3-d environments/interfaces into an SWF format. Or maybe SWF is not the best way to go.

NOTE: What i have in mind would only be flat planes and line drawing, no shadows or tricky rendering. Although some atmospheric hazing of the line would be a plus for the sense of distance.

Interface Help
I'm working on a website interface right now, but I'm having trouble with the buttons. Maybe you guys can help me out?

Anyhoo, if you move your mouse around, you can see 5 distinct clickable areas, all done through buttons. However, if you go to the bottom, where the text box is, and move the mouse around, you'll see all the labels go like crazy. I know this is because the text labels are part of the buttons for each area. Is there anyway I can have them display during the "Over" "Down" and "Hit" parts without having them turn into buttons?

Also, is there anyway I can add text effects under the button? Everytime I try adding a keyframe, it just bumps the Up, over, down and hit frames over. I just want to make a text effect during the OVER section.

Finally, anyone know anything about the media player? I tried making it a small player with specific dimensions, but my friends with windows media player don't see much. Is there a variable for the embed src tag that will only give me the pause/play button?

im making a type of mac os interface, and there is windows, but i want to ask if its possible to make the window resizable? And does anyone know how to use z-sorting, so the the window comes to the top of all the other windows when it clicked?

Interface Help
I need help in building my navigation console.

I know how to make it look the way I want, that's not the issue. I need to know how to make it function correctly. I drew up the real generic sketch in 2 minutes of how I want it to work. A few things worth noting are.

the swf will be embedded in an html page with other little ambience animations and a jukebox

the menu button will be animated at all times and there will be sounds to all movements/actions

I'd like to hit the menu button and have pistons come out, and the menu fold into place like a motorized fan and then the button housing pop out of the end.

the buttons themselves I want to be click once and the two preview windows change (left being name/imagery right being text description) the button should stay until user clicks another or double clicks to open new window.

a minor question I have is about the background image before the menu is expanded and how to make that get covered up properly by the expanded interface?

right, i have a small creative company and i want to make an area where i can upload work and then someone can download it. but i want this to be dynamic so i can just upload it and not have to worry about updating the page or anything. kinda like an FTP interface, where the page just shows what is in a certain folder in my webspace, and it shows the name of the file and then someone can download this file.
i know i can do this automatically by just going to the folder in a web browser but i wanted to design it in flash. also, i would like to have user names and passwords.

any ideas?

Hi and sorry about my english!

I'm triying to make an user interface i've seen a lot of times but now i can't locate it. it's something similar to a navigation tree but the items are centered in the display.

The concept is that you have a menu item, an sphere i.e., in the center of the page, and when you click it a number of items deploys from the first. They are joined by a elastic line and if you continue expanding the tree, the elements share dinamically the space.

Does anybody know where could i find a .fla or .swf similar to this?

Interface Between Two Swf's
I would like to interface between two swf's on two different pages.

I have a gallery swf in a gallery html page. I also have another page that has a small swf that displays a few selected pics. When I click on a selected pic I would like to switch to the gallery page and pass a variable to the gallery swf. Does that make sense?

A nudge in the right direction would be very helpful.

[CS3] Help With Web Interface
I've dabbled with Flash for many years, but have never had a chance to really sit down and learn it, so please excuse the n00b question (at least I'm in the right forum!).

I'm designing a web interface, and have a cool design in the middle of the page. I want to be able to click a button, and then have it spawn a small rectangle from behind the design (in the background essentially), then have the rectangle slide down to the bottom of the page, and then enlarge to fill most of the screen and have it on top of that design that it was behind earlier. Then I want to be able to close that window with an X in the upper left-hand corner. What I want to achieve is actually similar to what is on the Macbook Air Features page when you click on one of the images opposite "Thin is in the design", but have it animated, as described above.

I've been able to make that rectangle slide down and enlarge, but it's on its own separate layer and just plays like a movie... I don't know how to make it dormant, and then spawn once you click that button. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

HI,
What i know is Interface contains method declarations..., and we redefine the methods when we implement the interface..and interface is to support mutiple inheritance..

but my doubt is inheritance is to reuse the code .. and when we implement iheritance we just redefine the methods then istead of using interface we can simply declare and define inside the class itself??

how it means multiple inheritance..since we dont..reuse the code..

I mean, for example get a page, or a string of external pdf-file with actionscript.

DVD Interface? Is It Possible?
Has anybody ever used Flash to build a DVD interface? You know - for jumping to different chapters, bonus material, etc?

It would seem like the perfect app for it, but what do I know.

Map Interface
I've created a world map with clickable countries and two buttons for zooming in and out. The clip is also draggable when clicked but there are a few aspects I want that I have no idea how to start...

First of all, when the "zoom in" button is clicked, the movie clip simply increases in size (dont know of another way to do it), but always zooms in towards the center of the map. So, you always have to keep dragging around to get back to where you were looking. I dont want a feature that zooms wherever you click though. Simply, I need a way for the current position to be kept when zoom in/zoom out is clicked.

Next is about the dragging... If you drag the map far enough, everything looks rather blank and you might not even be able to drag it back and have to end up refreshing the page. I'm trying to make a feature that loops the map horizontally, so one could drag endlessly...but at the same time there must be a barrier vertically. The barrier needs to work in a way that it still allows zooming in, but remains at the top and bottom when you try to drag the map up/down.

For me, both of these ideas are difficult enough, but they also have to work in harmony with each other. I hope someone can understand how I've laid this out...

Any script ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Flash 8.

Help With Interface
i just finished 2 days of flash training, and am getting a hang of actionsript - no problems there. where problems come in though is the interface - i've been a graphic designer for more than 8 years, and know my way around just about any piece of software related to this field - i even teach photoshop-classes myself. i'm having a REALLY hard time to find my way around flash though, and find the 'help'-files utterly useless (they repeatedly tell me 'you can do this here' and 'you can also do it here', but do NOT tell me HOW to do it).

anyways, i'm really annoyed now, and need your guys help - if i have a panel-group, its 'titlebar' is either on top or to the left - how do i change that? i couldn't find any preferences or settings, no contextual menus or similar to do that. may not sound like much, but is important as it has influence on into which directions that panel folds out to (up or down). and for some strange reason it changes from everytime i start flash, even tough i saved my workspace.

pleeease help!

ps: it's flash 8 i'm using right now. already ordered CS3 but haven't received it yet... i hear the interface changed? i sure hope so... ;-)

now that i have built my first site using external XML and TXT files with which the client can update his site, I am really eager to learn how to build an interface, so the client doesn't have to open the XML and TXT files anymore and upload them, but just can open an interface, preferably online) with a password). But I don't know where to start.

Interface TO SWF
We are trying to build an interface that will submit data from our ASP-SQL Server based application to a web-based form that is contained in a SWF file on a remote system. We do not have access to the source of the SWF (and do not want to use decompilers) but need the ability to submit data directly to the form fields via the front-end (in Internet Explorer). Essentially, we need to be able to automatically navigate through the Flash-based form somewhat like a virtual user. I was wondering if folks here were aware of any utility built by Macromedia or any other vendor which would let us do this.

FYI, we have built similar interfaces to ASP-based and mainframe-based remote systems using tools made by Jacada, but cannot find any similar tools to submit to Flash.

C++ / AS3 Interface
Hi everyone!

I have a C++ application that runs a SWF.
I used to pass parameters to the AS2-SWF with raw_setVariable in the application, and then access the value from the SWF like "_root.myVariable".

Now, it doesn't work in AS3. I tried to use the root.loaderinfo.parameters property but it seems to contain only the init-parameters, such as flashVars.

What can be done about that?

3D Rotating Interface
I have designed a 3D rotating interface that moves according to the mouse position - similar to the one used on http://www.egomedia.com in the 'process' section. I have 8 panels, and am using the swapDepths action to make it so that when one panel is infront of another it's level is greater and therefore the proportion of the back panel covered is hidden. However, I want the part of the back panel covered by the front panel to have a reduced alpha rather than be completely hidden. How do I do this? I can't work out how to do it by changing the levels using swapDepths - is there another method?

I have a problem with an interface I am creating. I need the interface to open both .pps files and flash movies. I cannot fiqure out how to make the interface point to the .pps files (the flash movies are easy). I am new to action scripting, and don't even know which one to try.

Interface Navigation
I am trying to create an interface for a website.

The interface consists of two side pieces which hold a virtual screen, inset into the side pieces are buttons relating to the individual pages of the website.

The interface begins life with the two side pieces closed together in the centre of the screen, when the page opens the side pieces retract to the edge of the screen and the virtual screen appears. The user then presses one of the buttons to take them to another page, at this the interface closes in the reverse of the opening sequence.

The problem I am having is, when the user presses the button of a previous page to the one displayed, how can I make the movie play the closing sequence of the interface before jumping back to the relevent frame.

CD Interface Dimensions
I want to create a cd interface who will run in fullscreen (FScommand) but dont know what dimensions to do it if i want to give the cd to peoples with many different configs..

any suggestions ?.. 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x.... ?

Interface Windows
How can I make it, so that when I click a button on my flash website, I can have two windows that can be dragged on mouse down. Because I tried this and only one of them was draggable.

New Interface Question
Hi everybody, first time to this forum and I have a pretty

cool question, or at least I hope so.

Here's the situation:

I'm developing this site that operates out of one window,
like most flash sites. It has six section and six navbar

buttons to navigate through the sections.

There are six graphics of buildings windows underneath the

navbar that animate into windows for the content to load in.

The way I saw it working is that you click and the correct

building slides to the left and expand. .

If you were to click again on the same button, it closes and

goes back to its original position. If you were to click on

one button while another is open, section 1 (the open

section) animates to the closed position and the new one

opens up.

If you have clicked on one button and then click again to

close that section, it immediately switches direction and

closes up.

I have each building/window as it's own movie clip and a

function in the root that determines if a window is open and

how to behave. To close a window there is a controller

movie clip that closes it.

Here's the file so you can take a look at it and see what

you think. The .fla was gigantic, so I can't load that

Here's the problem I've been having:
A) I want to have a window wait until the previously open

one is closed before it opens the new one. I also can't get

it to wait for all the other buildings shrink down to get

out of the way before it opens the new one. I can't figure

out how to get Flash to "wait."

B)If one accidently double clicks on the button, the flash

it seems to screw up the sequence and the window opens in

the building's original position, not at the left where it

should. View file to understand.

Does anyone have any insight into this problem?
