Weird Loading On Non-ie Browser
besides IE it happens like this :
I load "a.swf" to a movieclip 'host'. before it reach 100% I intentionally load "b.swf" to the same 'host'.
Then I load "a.swf" AGAIN (despite "b.swf" completed or not) ----> "a.swf" never start to load.
Why oh why ???
PS : tested on Opera 9.02 and Firefox 2.0
code :
Code: function loadPage(page) { var ploadNote = _parent.preloaderPage; ploadNote.reset();
// sub container : if (container.subContainer) { container.subContainer.removeMovieClip(); } var subContainer:MovieClip = container.createEmptyMovieClip("subContainer", 1000); subContainer.loadMovie(page);
// preload : CMCL.onEnterFrame = function() { var bTotal = subContainer.getBytesTotal(); var bLoaded = subContainer.getBytesLoaded(); if (bTotal > 4) { if (bTotal == bLoaded) { delete this.onEnterFrame; subContainer.gotoAndPlay("I"); } ploadNote.printProgress(bLoaded, bTotal); } } } Thanks in advanced.

[F8] Weird Weird Loading Problem
Hey all,
Check out this project I'm working on:
http://www.niekdekker.com/overig/
The weird thing is, and you can see this, that the movie just stays white while it's loading. When the movie is fully loaded the movie begins.
And I am CERTAIN this has nothing to do with the way I built my flash. Even if I remove all the loading code it's still just white until it's all loaded. Think about it: There's isn't even a white frame in the entire movie!
So I dont' know what I am doing wrong.
Does anybody recognize this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Niek Dekker
Browser Issues? Something Weird.
I'm totally and completely bewildered, befuddled... be-pissed. Haha.
THE DETAILS:
Flash MX 2004. Site is all flash (except for the pages that the swf's are embedded in, naturally). Links are all relatiive. Files ARE in the correct positions on the server. The main page loads a few swf's containing video (about 8MB). It's all working on my computer... in the flash player that is.
THE PROBLEM:
When I view it in a browser (Safari & Opera) or upload the stuff and view it all from the website the main swf loads/works great, but when i select the video it never shows up. The s*@t's there, i can go directly to it and see it, it just won't play. WTF, mate!?
My one and only idea of what the problem is: Maybe my browser plugins don't support this type of action. I don't really believe this though, i'm just desperate, grasping at straws, as they say.
Any ideas? Please?...

Weird Problem... My Swf Work Inside Flash But Not In The Browser...
I'm working on some website, everything works great inside flash, when i'm testing and compiling... but the same SWF generated by 'CTRL + ENTER' doesn't work when i double click on it, in explorer... i tried with the html file, still doesn't work... then I tried making a EXE from the non-working SWF, and it worked.
I really don't know what to do now? did anybody ever saw something like that? tia.
Small Flash File Loading Into HTML - Weird Sporadic Loading
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help...
I have a very small Flash file (less than 5k) loaded into a table cell of an HTML page .
On occasion (on Mac/IE) there is a flash of white appears in the table cell before the file starts. On other occasions only a portion of the file appears (while the rest of the cell is white). And at other times, none of the file appears (the table cell that it's in is appears as white).
The background of the flash file is orange (not white) so I guess that means that none of the Flash has loaded. Sometimes when I refresh the page, the problem resolves itself.
Does anyone know what the problem may be? Is there any sort of pre-loading JavaScript that would help, even though the file is very small to begin with?
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it!
Weird Loading
why my flash movie loads...which is only 24kb...it's flickers on and off before it completely loads...what's with this? and how can i resolve this?
the file...has some embeded fonts and a dynamic text field...but all in all...it's got no images...it's nothing fancy...
is this just a regular computer thing (i'm on a mac) or is there some way i can fix this?
thanks...vaska
Weird Problem When Loading Jpg's, Help?
I am stumped by a problem with loading jpg's. I 've made a very simple example that illustrates my problem. Basically i load external jpg's with loadmovie() and it works great when tested on PC but not when uploaded to server. Here is what i am seeing with the example i made:
First time i start swf file(uploaded) i can get up to picture number5
Hit refresh in browser can go up to pic#10
Hit refresh and now i can see all the pictures.
Here is the link with an example(upload to server to see the problem)

Would really appreciate any help/examples.
Weird Loading Problems
In my project I use the loadmovie feature. The problem is that when I load the other movie some of its layers are missing. You can see what I mean here www.geocities.com/theantivirus02/level2.swf . Everything looks WAY different on my copy.
Weird Swf Loading Problem
Hello all. I hope you can help. I have placed a swf file into the library of a new movie I'm making and then placed an instance of it onto the stage. It is accessed by clicking on a button with a gotoandstop action/behavior attached to it. So far so good. The movie comes up and plays. However, this swf file, which played very nicely before, now shows up in it's very first frame with EVERYTHING showing up from frame 1. I mean, the things that aren't supposed to appear until later on appear right away. This did not happen in the original, but it is happening now. I can't figure it out. I hope someone knows what happened and how to fix it cuz it's driving me batty! Also, as a related question, when I imported this swf file, it imported along with all kinds of numbered symbols. Is this right? I could see that if it were an fla file, but.....
Thanks for any and all help!

Very Weird Problem With Loading JPG, Only In IE?
Hi,
I made an image gallery for a house of a friend of mine. I made 1 swf called foto.swf which is placed in a few directories corresponding with the part of the house (eg. House, livingroom, kitchen, etc.). That way I only had to make 1 swf which he can use more than once.
here's a link to one of the pages:
http://www.tsjech-inn.nl/fotos/verblijf/huis/foto.html
and this is a link with all the categories:
http://www.tsjech-inn.nl/nl_verblijf.htm
(hope this clarefies my story)
In each directory are a few files: foto.swf (the swf..), the pictures (kl_1.jpg ... kl_16.jpg for the tumbnails and gr_1.jpg .... gr16.jpg for the larger pictures) and a text file called 'aantal.txt' in which a variable is set for the number of pictures used in the gallery.
Now, the gallery seems to be working fine in a firefox browser, but in IE it doesn't work at all, or it only works one time, and when you refresh or click on an other gallery no pictures are loaded?
This is the script I am using for loading the pictures:
Code:
lv = new LoadVars();
lv.load("aantal.txt");
lv.onLoad = function(success){
if(success){
aantal=this.aantal
if (this.aantal>0) {loadMovie("kl_1.jpg", _root.p1);
_root.l1._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>1) {loadMovie("kl_2.jpg", _root.p2);
_root.l2._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>2) {loadMovie("kl_3.jpg", _root.p3);
_root.l3._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>3) {loadMovie("kl_4.jpg", _root.p4);
_root.l4._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>4) {loadMovie("kl_5.jpg", _root.p5);
_root.l5._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>5) {loadMovie("kl_6.jpg", _root.p6);
_root.l6._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>6) {loadMovie("kl_7.jpg", _root.p7);
_root.l7._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>7) {loadMovie("kl_8.jpg", _root.p8);
_root.l8._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>8) {loadMovie("kl_9.jpg", _root.p9);
_root.l9._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>9) {loadMovie("kl_10.jpg", _root.p10);
_root.l10._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>10) {loadMovie("kl_11.jpg", _root.p11);
_root.l1._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>11) {loadMovie("kl_12.jpg", _root.p12);
_root.l12._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>12) {loadMovie("kl_13.jpg", _root.p13);
_root.l13._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>13) {loadMovie("kl_14.jpg", _root.p14);
_root.l14._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>14) {loadMovie("kl_15.jpg", _root.p15);
_root.l15._visible = false;}
if (this.aantal>15) {loadMovie("kl_16.jpg", _root.p16);
_root.l16._visible = false;}
}
}
never mind the '_root.lXX._visible = false; ' part....
Does anybody have a clue why it is not working on IE?
- Thanks!
Weird XML-loading Problem
I have an XML-file that goes:
<January2006><Sunday 1>blabal</Sunday 1><Monday 2>blabalbabl</Monday 2>....</January2006>
but when I read it in Flash, I only get :
<January2006 />
so an empty tag!?
I use this code to load it:
Code:
loadXML();
function loadXML(){
myXML = new XML();
myXML.ignoreWhite = true;
myXML.contentType = "text/xml";
myXML.load("http://*****MYSERVER***********/"+myMonths[currentMonth]+currentYear+".xml");
myXML.onLoad = function(success){
if (success){
for (i=0;i<myDatums.length;i++){
trace(myDatums.length);
myDatums[i].text = myXML.firstChild.childNodes[0].toString()+ "kut";
trace(myXML.firstChild.childNodes[0].toString());
}
trace("joepi");
}
else{
trace("kut");
}
}
}
anyone a clue?
Loading A Map From XML - Weird Problem... Pls Help
Ok.. So my game needs to load a map from an xml file. Then it takes the values from the xml file and puts them in currentMap (2d Array of aTile elements). aTile is my class that contains the info about each tile. The goal of all this is to have access to the whole map and everything the game needs to know about it through currentMap[x][y].neededValue
This is my code:
ActionScript Code:
function onCurrentMapXMLLoaded(sucess:Boolean){
trace("onCurrentMapXMLLoaded()");
this.parseXML;
if (sucess){
//temp variables used to extract the data
var asdf:aTile = new aTile("Nothing set to this location","Nothing set to this location","Nothing set to this location");
for(a=0;a<=5;a++)
set ("arrayOfTiles"+String(a), new Array(asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf,asdf));
var arrayOfRows:Array = new Array(arrayOfTiles0,arrayOfTiles1,arrayOfTiles2,arrayOfTiles3,arrayOfTiles4,arrayOfTiles5,arrayOfTiles6,arrayOfTiles7,arrayOfTiles8,arrayOfTiles9,arrayOfTiles10,arrayOfTiles11,arrayOfTiles12,arrayOfTiles13,arrayOfTiles14,arrayOfTiles15,arrayOfTiles16,arrayOfTiles17,arrayOfTiles18,arrayOfTiles19,arrayOfTiles20,arrayOfTiles21,arrayOfTiles22,arrayOfTiles23,arrayOfTiles24,arrayOfTiles25,arrayOfTiles26,arrayOfTiles27,arrayOfTiles28,arrayOfTiles29,arrayOfTiles30,arrayOfTiles31,arrayOfTiles32,arrayOfTiles33,arrayOfTiles34,arrayOfTiles35,arrayOfTiles36,arrayOfTiles37,arrayOfTiles38,arrayOfTiles39,arrayOfTiles40,arrayOfTiles41,arrayOfTiles42,arrayOfTiles43,arrayOfTiles44,arrayOfTiles45,arrayOfTiles46,arrayOfTiles47,arrayOfTiles48,arrayOfTiles49,arrayOfTiles50);

}
The aTile class is:
ActionScript Code:
class aTile{
public var passable_str:String;
public var image_str:String;
public var start_str:String;
function aTile(img:String,pass:String,strt:String) {
image_str = new String;
image_str = img;
passable_str = new String;
passable_str = pass;
start_str = new String;
start_str = strt;
}
}
BTW: this is done earlier in the code too..
ActionScript Code:
for(n=0;n<=50;n++)
for(m=0;m<=50;m++)
set ("tile"+String(n)+"x"+String(m), new aTile("no data","no data","no data"));
my map's xml: http://z8.invisionfree.com/weston/in...p?showtopic=86
The problem is that it works fine until it gets to when row==6 and there it just doesn't work... everything = undefined...
Weird Square When Loading
hi,
i have created a presentation in MX 2004.
you can see it at www.memofromgod.com .
visit the link and pay attention at the first 5-6 seconds and you will see a white square appearing. why is that ? and why white when my background is black.
*) on the first scene we have the preloading thing:
Code:
bar._width=_root.getBytesLoaded()*100/_root.getBytesTotal(
*) then we have the second scene that has on it's first frame a huge sound loading from internal library. we still need the sound to start from the first begining and not streamed...
this is how i do it in the first frame of the second scene:
Code:
radu = new Sound();
radu.attachSound("sound_from_library");
radu.start(0, 999);
and after this frame we have the whole animation and fading pictures set.
how can i fix the white that appears?. i bet when we see that white, the movie is not even 0% loaded because of this huge file that needs to be inserted on the first frame of the second scene, right?
thanks for your help.
PS>> maybe i can fix that with a HTML tip or trick, not Flash
Weird XML Loading Problems
I am having very strange problems with my XML in Flash. Its ok to view running off my computer but when I upload it to my server and then open it the XML doesnt load. Below is by AS so you can check it...
Code:
startNode=5;
this.xmlData = new XML();
this.xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
this.xmlData.onLoad = loadXML;
this.xmlData.load("http://www.zdnet.com.au/feeds/rss/index.htm?tag=latest_news");
function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
title = "<u>" + this.lastChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[nodeNum].childNodes[0].lastChild.nodeValue + "</u>";
desc = this.lastChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[nodeNum].childNodes[2].lastChild.nodeValue;
linkurl = this.lastChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[nodeNum].childNodes[1].lastChild.nodeValue;
xmltitle.titletxt = title;
desc = desc;
nextNode = this.lastChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[nodeNum+1].childNodes[0].lastChild.nodeValue;
previousNode = nodeNum - startNode;
} else {
this.desc = "File did not load!";
}
}
The codes fine its just when its on the net...help needed urgently please.
Weird Dynamic Loading Problem

MX2004 - Weird XML Loading Problem
Hi everyone,
I'm having a very strange problem with an XML loading project I've been working on for a while.
I'm trying to parse through a portion of an XML doc in order to preload images referenced from the doc. However, I'm obviously doing something very wrong somewhere down the line b/c it's always saying the the first record is only 12 bytes (which is obviously wrong).
I've looked through the code over and over again, however, I can't seem to find the bug. If anyone is willing to take a look at the FLA, I'd really appreciate it.
You can download the file at www.spikedproductions.com/flash/demo.zip
Thanks so much for the help ahead of time.
Very Weird Behaviour Loading External Jpg
Hello all, I'm having a very strange problem, I'll try to explain
clearly:
I developed a web site with Flash CS3 / FP9, that also doing an exe it
will be a CD-Rom.
I have a main swf movie, let's call "home.swf", on a directory.
In this directory I have 2 sudirectories "images" and "icons", inside
those dirs there are several images that I load into flash.
It works perfect on the hard disk, it works perfect on a test server,
it works perfect if I publish as an exe and run from a CD-Rom (with
autorun), it works perfect if I upload it into a domain test dir like
www.domain.com/test/home.swf BUT if i upload on a domain root dir
www.domain.com/home.swf it won't load any image from the
subdirectories.
I tried also to upload on two different hostings (Linux) and the
behaviour is the same, if everything is in the root dir the images
aren't loading, if everything is on a test sudir all works perfect.
I checked everything, tried with relative or absolute paths, checked
case sensitive file names (everything is in lower case), seems that
there is nothing out of place.
Note that on the localhost server (IIS) the site works good both in
root dir and in subdir.
What can be the problem? I can't figure it out the solution, all that
I saw is correct.
Thanks a lot for any suggestion.
Loading Variables From ASP.NET Acting Weird
Here is my AS code:
var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("ASP/sample_codebehind.aspx");
var urlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
urlLoader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, urlLoader_complete);
urlLoader.load(urlRequest);
function urlLoader_complete(evt:Event):void
{
trace(urlLoader.data.lastName);
trace(urlLoader.data.firstName);
testInput.text = urlLoader.data.firstName + " " + urlLoader.data.lastName;
}
Here is my .aspx page:
<%@ Page Language="c#" src = "sample_codebehind.aspx.cs"%>
<html>
<head>
<title>Code Behind Example</title>
</head>
<body>
<% Response.Write("&firstName=Jonn&lastName=Jonnnes") ; %>
</body>
</html>
Why is it that I am getting the values 'Jonn' for first name(this is correct), and 'Jonnnes");
</body>
</html>
' for the last name. It is just taking everything after &lastName and assigning that to the variable. Why is this? Thanks!
Weird Text Loading Issue
I have a set of buttons with LoadMovie and LoadVariable scripts on them, which basically load .jpegs into an empty movie clip, and external .txt files into a dynamic text box. (it's a photo gallery of sorts)
i had previously saved the .swf and assets (the jpegs and .txt files) locally in a single folder on my hard-drive. I made a copy of this folder and put it onto a network server.
the weird part is that when i go to publish the .swf from the local folder (the hard-drive version), the buttons and everything work fine and everything loads as it should. the network version however, doesn't seem to behave the same way. the jpgs load, but the .txt files don't! the version of the folder on the server is an identical copy of the local one. all the files are intact and accounted for. it's also not an issue of relative vs. absolute paths in the script either. i made sure of that from the start. i don't understand what the problem is.
on a curious note, after i tried fooling with the network version of the source .fla file that i'm working with for a bit, it caused flash to crash on me. any ideas? I'm running Flash MX 2004 on a Dell.
Weird Flash Loading Glitch
Hi, I have a problem with Flash's consistancy, I think it's a program error or something but i don't know how to solve it yet...
I have a basic dynamic structure, I load data from PHP (images, text etc) and the have some MovieClips I load the images into.
OK, now I have preloaders on each of these, and a small onEnterFrame() script that basically just checks if the image is loaded and if so it fades it in.
It all works fine, except that after about 4 or 5 minutes the image just disappears...for about a minute or so, then it pops back up...
I haven't picked this up because I never stare at the images for so long, but I saw it after having left one of my sites open...
No the onEnterFrame code looks like this:
Quote:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loaded = this.getBytesLoaded();
total = this.getBytesTotal();
loadPers = (loaded/total)*100;
if (loadPers<100) {
this._alpha = 0;
}else {
this._alpha+=10;
}
}
I've tried checking for 95% (to see if it may be that the calculation returns 99.9999 or something like that but it still does the same..
Thanks a lot to anyone who has some advice!!
Loading Text From A Txt File Being Weird
okay, i'm trying to load text from an external txt file so i can keep it easy to update. it works fine when i open it offline, but on the web the text doesn't show up. I'm using HTML formatting for the text if that has anything to do with it. i've double checked the file name and location of the txt file to no avail. can anybody help me cause i'm about ready to abandon the project out of frusteration.

Flash Is Acting Weird Upon Initial Loading...
hi,
maybe someone here can help me out? when i go to my website's homepage which contains my main flash movie, the flash movie does not load completely. but when i reload the page a second or third time, the flash movie loads completely. of course, this is not good because not everyone, if anyone, will know to load the page over again in order to see the whole movie.
you can see what i'm talking about at:
http://paulabailey.net/home.html
my operating system is Windows XP...and I used Flash MX.
and yes, i do intend to put in a preloader;im still figuring that out...until then, i don't know why flash is having a hard time loading the full movie on its first download. it's not a huge file. (note: this only started happening when i added sounds to the buttons so i don't know if that may have anything to do with it.)
any advice will be much appreciated. thanks!!!
Weird Problem Loading Data From Database
initially when i want to load data from database, it will output all the elements from a table
now i create a timer to make sure it will query from the database every interval to keep track of the updated content, however, the problem comes in...
when i delete a data from there, the data was somehow 'cached' into flash, meaning, it wasn't updated at all.
weird thing is, if i port the data over to xml and update the file, the flash would show the updated data correctly
can anyone tell me why is this happening?
Weird Problem With Loading External Swfs. They Speed Up
Weird problem with loading external swfs. They Speed up
Hi i have a main.swf which contains a movieclip holder_mc.
I have links in the main.swf which when clicked loads the corresponding external swf into the movieclip holder_mc.
The loading is working fine and the sf are loaded correctly.
The problem is this..one of the external swfs i.e balls.swf is an animation with bouncing balls which you can also grab and thow around and this is completely done in actionscript.
Now when the releavnt link is clicked in the main.swf the balls.swf is loaded into the holder_mc it plays fine and as expected. However if I click the link again or click another link and go back..the speed of the animation is GREATLy increaesed. The more times you click the link the faster it gets..and i cant figure out why...
Any help is appreciated..its doing my head in!!
The loading part is simply like this
Code:
holder_mc.loadMovie("balls.swf");
in the frist frame of the balls.swf i have also the action so the _root isnt mixed up
Code:
this._lockroot = true;
Thanks!!
Note you can see what im talking about by going to http://www.flashmatics.co.uk/ex/index.htm and then by clicking Experiments>>Maths and Physics>> bouncing ball
At present only this link and the spiral link is loads movies!!
Loading Text Doesn't Load Properly... Weird
hi guys,
check this out: http://www.base-ment.com/Flash/Kalender.swf this swf does use this code:
Code:
optredens = new LoadVars();
optredens.load("optredens.txt");
optredens.onLoad = function(){
_root.aankomend = this.aankomend;
_root.geweest = this.geweest;
}
as you see in the swf you first have to switch with "aankomende optredens" en "gespeelde optredens" before you can read the aankomende optredens text... why? i just want it to load immediately, so you can read it... without having to read "undefined"... who can help me out?
thanks for beeing interested!

Weird Datatyping Issue When Loading Swfs And Library Assetts
This is a strange problem that I've had happen to me time and time again, and I have no idea why. So I finally sat down and created the most basic example of the issue that I could come up with to try to find the source of the problem. So here it is, please be patient:
Two files, a.swf and b.swf each have a document class associated with them called ADocument.as and BDocument.as, respectively. a.swf loads b.swf and places it on stage:
ActionScript Code:
package classes{
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import classes.BDocument;
public class ADocument extends MovieClip {
private var content:BDocument;
public function ADocument() {
trace("instantiate ADocument class");
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
loader.load(new URLRequest("b.swf"));
}
private function completeHandler(e:Event):void {
trace("b.swf loaded");
content = e.target.content;
this.addChild(content);
}
}
}
b.swf has a library item with a linked class called LibraryObject.as
b.swf attached the library item to the stage:
ActionScript Code:
package classes{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class BDocument extends MovieClip {
public function BDocument() {
//attach library object to stage
this.addChild(new LibraryObject());
}
}
}
Upon instantiation, the LibraryObject makes a minor modification to a text field that it contains:
ActionScript Code:
package classes{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.text.TextField;
public class LibraryObject extends MovieClip {
public function LibraryObject() {
this.text_txt.appendText("!");
}
}
}
Pretty basic right? Now, if you compile and run b.swf, everything works and runs fine. BUT, if you compile and run a.swf, I get this error message:
Quote:
Location:
LibraryObject.as, Line 9
Description:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property text_txt through a reference with static type classes:LibraryObject.
Source: this.text_txt.appendText("!");
Now, here's the REAL kicker. If I go into ADocument.as and remove the datatyping of the content variable that references the loaded b.swf content, like so:
ActionScript Code:
ADocument.as, line 10
private var content:BDocument;
changed to:
private var content;
Now, when I compile and run a.swf, all of the sudden, EVERYTHING WORKS FINE! I'm tired of having to find silly workarounds for this issue. Someone please help!!!

Weird Issue With Loading And Playing Videos Externally - URGENT
I have a project I'm working on where I have an FLV Playback component on the stage, with thumbnail buttons below to create sort of a video gallery. When the user clicks on each of these buttons, a different FLV file will load in the FLV Playback component, which currently works GREAT when previewing in Flash.
I'm using the following code to link the button input with the FLV component on the stage:
btn_Audi.onRelease = function() {
videoPlayer.contentPath = "Audi.flv";
};
btn_Bridgestone.onRelease = function() {
videoPlayer.contentPath = "Bridgestone.flv";
However, when I go to Publish to a folder to upload to the web, I go to click on one of the thumbnails and the video never loads. I get the controller bar sitting there scrolling the barber-shop style colors, but no video loads. I've checked, re-checked, and triple-checked to make sure ALL the necessary files are in the directory (since it seems like it's having some issue finding or loading the video file(s)). I'm completely out of ideas and need to know if anyone has any thoughts as to what it could be.
Oh, and should it matter that I have this videoPlayer component "buried" inside the project, as in Scene 1 > movieClip > movieClip > videoPlayer ? I wouldn't think it would... but maybe?
Thank you so much in advance -
Michael
Help: Weird Or Not So Weird Thingy With Dynamic Text Animation
http://www.david.bullaro.com/
there are 3 buttons on the right side education, experience and awards. Each loads an MC that then motion tweens into view from the side. The MC dynamically loads a text file. At the end the text blinks once. I understand the blink because i needed to reload the text for that keyframe but is there anyway around that blink?
TIA.
XML Loading In Flash, Not Loading In Browser
Could anyone give me a clue as to why when i test a movie in Flash my XML document is found and successfully loads (xml.status returns 0). However when the swf is used inside a browser, the swf can no longer find the XML document ( or something else ) ???
is there a way to pipe XML.status into a javascript function or some way to see what is going on inside of the browser environment?
thanks for any help.

Weird, Weird Stupid Problem
Ok, guys so I pressed something on my keyboard in actionScript 3 while writing code, and some weird sybmols popped up all over the place, I can't get rid of them :/
there is >> after every indent and line, and also some sort of backwards "P" on every new line.
does anyone know how to get rid of these? Cause they are crowding the code, and it's really hard to read and write.
Thanks deewds
Weird Weird Mask Problem
For some reason, all of a sudden, I'm experiencing a weird problem:
If I load an external swf into a movie clip that has a mask, the swf fails to show up. Delete the mask, and the swf appears. Put the mask back in, and POW! no swf.
The odd thing is, a project I authored a few weeks ago, with masks, works just fine!
Anybody else experience this issue??
I'm running OSX Tiger on a G5 dual processor.

Weird Return Character Problems, Loading Files, "
".
Ok, well i have an XML file, and i am loading a big article (many) via XML. Well these articles are in text format, except for links which is html obviously, and all is dandy.
Except for the return characters.
Like i said <A> tags are about all of HTML i am using, so i am not using <BR>, i am simple hitting enter in my text editor. The problem lies within flash loading it. For some reason "
" is being turned into double returns.
What do i mean by that? Example.
My Text
Code:
Blahblah
blah
blah
blahblahBlah
LastBlahLine
What flash turns it into on runtime
Code:
Blahblah
blah
blah
blahblahBlah
LastBlahLine
I assume you can see the dif. Now you may be asking me if i am just seeing big return lines, well if i am they are huge lol.
I dunno what this is, i am about to go to the extreme of parsing the XML to take out the character (like 11 or 13 or somethin) and replace it with a <br> for the HTML simplicity.
Can anyone give me a clue on what is going wrong? Thanks!

Flash Not Loading In IE Browser
Hi,
I imported a shockwave file into Dreamweaver and it is not appearing in Internet Explorer 5.0. When I drop my dreamweaver file onto the browser window it remains blank. Surprisingly, the page loads fine in Netscape. I also allocated more memory to IE and it still doesn't work. What could be the problem? I'd appreciate any suggestions on why this could be happening. If it helps, the flash file is meant to be an animation/music intro which ends with a link to my Dreamweaver homepage which is all static. (BTW, I haven't published my site yet, so I can't show by way of example.)
Thanks in advance,

I want to load a pdf, (for use as a help file)only i want to load acrobat as a stand alone program and not within a browser. Presently im using "getURL" and its obvious what this does with the pdf.
I have heard that it is possible to use "fscommand" to execute acrobat, but haven't got a clue how this is done... if it can be done!
If you know how, i'd appreciate the help

Picture Not Loading... But In Browser It Does
Code:
function loadThumbNail() {
loadArrays();
var homePage = "http://www.chasebrammer.com/OHS/sports/wrestling/";
if (_global.thumbCounter < 10){ // label the 001 better.
newThumb = "wrestling-" + "00" + _global.thumbCounter;
}else{
newThumb = "wrestling-" + "0" + _global.thumbCounter;
}
var myUrl = homepage + "thumbs/" + newThumb + ".jpg";
loadMovie(myUrl, thumbPlacer);
thumbNumberField = _global.thumbCounter;
_global.thumbCounter --;
}
Here's my beautiful code!
It gives me an output error of:

Error opening URL "http://www.chasebrammer.com/OHS/sports/wrestling/thumbs/wrestling-001.jpg"
But when I paste the URL into my browser, it loads the picture!!

XML Loading - Browser Glithces?
Hey team,
I have a piece of code thats working AOK in the Flash authoring environment, but fails in Safari and IE5... Here's the basic outline...
Code:
function generalInit() {
parseXML("frontpage.xml");
}
function parseXML(xmlName) {
var thisXML;
thisXML = new XML();
thisXML.ignoreWhite = true;
thisXML.onLoad = xmlLoadingDone;
thisXML.load(xmlName);
}
function xmlLoadingDone() {
createScreenObjects(this);
gotoAndPlay(3);
}
generalInit()
My problem is that xmlLoadingDone is not getting called (in browsers). So, I'm assuming the XML is not loading... but the XML filename is *definitely* good, and as it works in MX itself (and FlashPlayer), it's difficult to know where to start. It's all running locally at this stage.
I'm really stumped!
Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

Loading Parameters, Set In Browser
I want to be able to load a swf file in a webpage with specific varibles set as it loads, like in a php file when you imput data using the head e.g
something.php?var1=99
I think i have found some evidence of this being used in a webpage but i still dont get how it works :
<param name="flashvars" value="mult=80&gamename=bmx">
(this was part of the swf file in the html code)
and in the file there would be action script to pick up the values. Does anyone know how this works, or could point me to a tutorial about it
Loading Order In Browser
Hello....
I'm working on an HTML page with a small flash anim embedded in the page, it's working fine so far. However, I notice that the flash anim appears before all the other elements and images of the page are loaded and I would like Flash to always be last to load.
The images on the page are very small in file size. I tried to remedy the problem by adding about 30 blank keyframes before the actual sequence begins, but this didn't help. Here's the page I'm working on (still in embryonic stages of development of course).

Perhaps your results will be different than mine but I don't see why, I'm viewing in Ie6.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Pre-loader Not Loading In Browser
Hi,
I am having trouble getting my pre-loader to work on my actionscript controlled image gallery. When it loads in the browser, the pre-loader does not appear until the movie is fully loaded (and the user only sees a blank screen), then you see a quick glimpse of it and it goes straight into the movie, see link http://www.testgallery.eliteweddingsandevents.com.au/
I have a pre-loader layer, actions layer and the gallery layer.
On the Actions layer I have this code:
Code:
myProgressBarListener = new Object();
myProgressBarListener = function (eventObject) {
myProgressBar._visible = false;
gotoAndPlay("gallery");
};
myProgressBar.addEventListener("complete", myProgressBarListener);
myProgressBar.mode = "polled";
myProgressBar.source = "_root";
myProgressBar.label = "LOADING %3%%";
myProgressBar.direction = "right";
myProgressBar.labelPlacement = "bottom";
stop();
The code that controls the Image Gallery is as follows:
Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",1);
var imagesNumber:Number = 5;
var scrolling:Boolean = true;
for (i=1; i<=imagesNumber; i++) {
container.attachMovie("thumb"+i,"thumb"+i+"_mc",i);
myThumb_mc = container["thumb"+i+"_mc"];
myThumb_mc._x = (i-1)*myThumb_mc._width;
myThumb_mc._y = (Stage.height-myThumb_mc._height)/2;
myThumb_mc._alpha = 50;
myThumb_mc.largerImage = i;
myThumb_mc.onRollOver = function() {
this._alpha = 100;
};
myThumb_mc.onRollOut = function() {
this._alpha = 50;
};
myThumb_mc.onRelease = function() {
this._alpha=50;
for (i=1; i<=imagesNumber; i++) {
var myClip = container["thumb"+i+"_mc"];
myClip.enabled = false;
}
scrolling = false;
_root.attachMovie("image"+this.largerImage,"large_mc",2);
large_mc._x = (Stage.width-large_mc._width)/2;
large_mc._y = (Stage.height-large_mc._height)/3;
new Tween(large_mc, "_alpha", Strong.easeOut, 0, 100, 0.5, true);
new Tween(container,"_alpha",Strong.easeOut,100,50,0.5,true);
large_mc.onRelease = function() {
scrolling = true;
var myFadeOut = new Tween(large_mc, "_alpha", Strong.easeOut, 100, 0, 0.5, true);
new Tween(container,"_alpha",Strong.easeOut,50,100,0.5,true);
myFadeOut.onMotionFinished = function() {
for (i=1; i<=imagesNumber; i++) {
var myClip = container["thumb"+i+"_mc"];
myClip.enabled = true;
}
large_mc.removeMovieClip();
};
};
};
}
container.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (scrolling){
this._x += Math.cos((-_root._xmouse/Stage.width)*Math.PI)*15;
if (this._x>0) {
this._x = 0;
}
if (-this._x>(this._width-Stage.width)) {
this._x = -(this._width-Stage.width);
}
}
};
[CS3][As2] Error When Loading In Web Browser?
Hi.
In my swf I will dynamicly load a number of pictures into the swf.
But I want to see if the file exist first otherwise i will get a number of errors in the web browser when I try to load them. So how can I see if a file exist without getting an error in the browser if it don't?
Browser Loading SWF Before Preloader
Hey guys, this problem is driving me absolutely crazy and I have no idea what is going on. I have tried my preloader 2 ways - 1.) by attaching it and putting the preloader script (which is the generic preloader script) inside it's onEnterFrame = function() 2.) placing the movie clip directly on the stage and putting the preloader in it's code...
The problem is that the browser loads all the content then displays the loader at 100% and starts the swf.
What do I have to do to have the swf load the content instead of the browser loading the entire swf?
